OT:XML/XSLT transformations on iAS6.0 anyone?

Hi,
I know this is Off Topic from JATO, but...
I am trying to come up with a way to process the typical
transformation of xml & xslt to html.
For whatever reason I can't seem to get this to work.
I've tried it by writing my own servlet, but it hangs.
I've tried to install cocoon, but nothing ever works, and all the
installation instructions seem to trail off at the most important time
(like what if the build doesn't create a war file).
Can someone point to a definitive resource that I can follow for
something like this which will work on iAS6.0?
Thanks,
John Hoskins.

Yeah, off topic, so I doubt you will get any expert help here. Might try the S1AS 6.x forum.
sorry

  • Java Translets XML/XSLT Transformation

    Translets "are precompiled XSL documents that are optimized and converted into simple Java classes. When you compile your application Java files, you compile your XSL files into Java class files. During runtime, you can load translets like any regular Java class and perform XSL transformations over and over again.
    The syntax checking and parsing of XSL documents are done when the XSL files are compiled. The transformation therefore takes only as long as the compiled code takes to execute, which improves performance multiple folds.
    The downside to using XSL is that "it can take a considerable amount of time and reduce performance. The time needed to parse XML and XSL documents is directly proportional to the size of the documents. Each transformation requires the XML and XSL documents to be loaded, syntax checked, and parsed." I recommends using translets for the following reasons.
    I had written an application (<a href="http://www.simplygites.com" title="www.simplygites.com">SimplyGites</a>) using standard XSL / XML transformation and experienced some very slow server-side transformation on the very complex screens with large amounts of xml. Timings showed these problem screens took 2-3 seconds to transform, which was totally unacceptable non-functional requirements.
    I considered rewriting these screens as JSP or PHP, then I discovered Translets. And wow what a discovery the timings for these pages now compiled as Translets(java classes) are amazing in comparison to the original timings ? I now have them transforming in 500ms (all now under 1 second).
    I would recommend anyone using XSL/XML transformation to use Translets, these have now been running tried and tested on the <a href="http://www.simplygites.com" title="www.simplygites.com">SimplyGites</a> for the past 6months.

  • Updating XML prior to XSLT transformation

    I am attempting to convert an XML document using XSLT but I need to transform it a bit beforehand. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this?
    Below is the logic that will transform the XML directly from the file, but I need to manipulate it first.
    Thanks in advance.
    Patti
    import javax.xml.transform.Source;
    import javax.xml.transform.Transformer;
    import javax.xml.transform.TransformerFactory;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource;
    import javax.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult;
    import java.io.*;
    public class Transform {
         * Performs an XSLT transformation, sending the results
         * to System.out.
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
            if (args.length != 2) {
                System.err.println(
                    "Usage: java Transform [xmlfile] [xsltfile]");
                System.exit(1);
            File xmlFile = new File(args[0]);
            File xsltFile = new File(args[1]);
            // JAXP reads data using the Source interface
            Source xmlSource = new StreamSource(xmlFile);
            Source xsltSource = new StreamSource(xsltFile);
            // the factory pattern supports different XSLT processors
            TransformerFactory transFact =
                    TransformerFactory.newInstance();
            Transformer trans = transFact.newTransformer(xsltSource);
            trans.transform(xmlSource, new StreamResult(System.out));
    }

    The first scenerio is what I intended. Since I posted my question I realized that I can manipulate the string and then create a StringSource passing a StringReader like so:
    StringReader src = new StringReader(xmlStr);
    StringWriter target = new StringWriter();
    currentTransformer.transform(new StreamSource(src),
                                 new StreamResult(target));Thanks.

  • XSLT-transformation in Java-Mapping with javax.xml

    Hi,
    we wanna use javax.xml for transformations in Java-Mapping.
    Inside the Java-mapping we read in XSL-files to transform a XML-stream. With XSLT 1.0 everything works fine - but with XSLT 2.0 we are getting runtime errors.
    Is it possible that javax.xml only supports XSLT 1.0?
    Regards

    Hi ,
    Jaxp 1.3 is available in this link -

  • XSLT transformation in XML to ABAP: special characters issue

    Hi,
    I am parsing well-formed XML file that has the following data (:

    I use XSLT transformation:

  • BI Admin Tool and XSLT transformation for XML data source - How it works ?

    Hello,
    There is a possibility to import data from XML data source using BI Admin Tool.
    In the import window we can point XSLT file. What is the purpose of that XSLT field?
    Why I am asking ?
    I thought it is smth like XSLT processor, but simply it doesnt work.
    What I did:
    - I pointed XML data source file
    - I pointed XSLT transformation file
    - Click OK, and still get the message that the XML file structure is not supported
    After that I transformed that XML file with some desktop XSLT processor using the same XSLT file, and I tried to connect that file directly using BI Admin tool.Then it works. So it means that the transformation is ok.
    So basically one question comes to my mind in that situation:
    What is the purpose of XSLT field in BI Admin Tool when it comes to XML data source ?
    (it doesnt look like XSLT processor)

  • XSLT transformation for Single XML Output

    I want to save a book to a single XML document. Is it correct that I can do this by adding an xslt to merge the standard framemaker entity type output ? Can I easily reconfigure the standard Save As XML to acheive this? or do I need to add a new menu item and call the XSLT dialogue...
    any advice appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Tracey,
       A related discussion appeared in the FrameSGML Yahoo group recently. Much of what follows is what I wrote there.
       Your XML application (defined in structapps.fm or another application definition file) can specify an XSLT post-process. No need to change Save as XML or define a new menu item. Depending on what you want, the XSLT transform can be as simple as the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:transform version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
        <xsl:output method="xml"/>
        <xsl:template match="/ | node() | @*">
            <xsl:copy>
                <xsl:apply-templates select="@* | node()"/>
            </xsl:copy>
        </xsl:template>
    </xsl:transform>
    This is an identity transform that simply copies the interpreted input to the output. I've used the word "interpreted" here because XSLT does not distinguish among some variations of how content is entered. In particular, it does not distinguish between content in referenced general entities (which is what you want) or between attribute values that happen to be the same as the attribute default value and attributes that are not explicitly specified and hence use the default value.
    There are a few things to watch out for involving use of general entities.
    First, if you are using entity attributes for graphics, you'll need to modify the above slightly. It's probably easier to replace the entity attributes with file attributes, but if you want to keep the entities, the above needs to be extended to declare the entities.
    Second, if you are using and want to preserve entity references for special characters or variables, you'll need to account for them as well. See $FMHOME\Structure\xml\PreserveEntity\readme.pdf.

  • Tags not printed when outputting XML after XSLT transformation

    Hi!
    I want my to perform an XSLT transformation on requests to my web service.
    This is the style of a typical request:
    <app:aRequest xmlns:app="http://myNamespace">
      <app:firstTag>value1</app:firstTag>
      <app:secondTag>value2</app:secondTag>

    <app:aRequest xmlns:app="http://myNamespace">

      <app:secondTag>value2</app:secondTag>
      <app:thirdTag>value3</app:thirdTag>
    </app:aRequest>To do that, I use the following XSLT:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0"
                    xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"

      <app:thirdTag><xsl:value-of select="app:aRequest/app:thirdTag" /></app:thirdTag>
    </app:aRequest>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet>And I use the following code to execute the transformation:
    public Object unmarshal(Source source) throws XmlMappingException, IOException {
      TransformerFactory factory = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
        // Does this factory support SAX features?
        if(factory.getFeature(SAXSource.FEATURE)) {

        Templates xsltOutputTemplate = saxTransformerFactory.newTemplates(new StreamSource(inputStream));
        Transformer transformer = xsltTemplate.newTransformer();
        // Perform transformation.
        StringWriter stringWriter = new StringWriter();
        StreamResult result = new StreamResult(stringWriter);
        transformer.transform(source, result);
        // Print result.
        String xmlString = stringWriter.toString();
        System.out.println(xmlString);
        // Proceed with unmarshalling.
        StringReader stringReader = new StringReader(xmlString);
        StreamSource transformedSource = new StreamSource(stringReader);
        return oxMapper.getUnmarshaller().unmarshal(transformedSource);
    }However, the System.out.println(xmlString); produces the following result:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
      value1
      value2
      value3The tags are not printed and the hard coded value is not present.
    What am I doing wrong? Please help!

    Following up on what the good Dr said,
    Are you sure that you are using the stylesheet that you think you are?
    I tried your stylesheet and input and got more or less what you wanted and not what you actually got.
    Note that I did not use your code.

  • UTF-8 encoding in XSLT transformation

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a transformation of an ABAP structure into XML. I use the XSLT transformation for this.
    My XSLT starts like this:
    <xsl:transform xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
      <xsl:strip-space elements="*"/>
      <asx:abap xmlns:asx="http://www.sap.com/abapxml" version="1.0">
        <asx:values>
    I tried many settings I could find posted on the internet, but I did not find one that would allow encoding to UTF-8.
    It always encodes to iso-8859-1 which my interface partner cannot read.
    Does anyone know a way to force encoding to UTF-8?
    Adding a command like <xsl:output encoding="utf-8"/> did not help.
    Thanks a lot!
           J. Euler

    Hello!
    I think I just solved the problem taking a different approach.
    In a note here on SDN, a guy from SAP wrote, that the SAP XSLT processor is not able to code anything but the system's default to a string, BUT that it is able to code it to an xstring.
    All I did now is add the tag
    <xsl:output encoding="utf-8" indent="yes" method="xml"/>
    to my xslt program and change the coding in the program accordingly.
    The program code is now:
      DATA: tempxstring TYPE xstring,
            temp_length TYPE i,
            conv      TYPE REF TO cl_abap_conv_in_ce.
      CLEAR tempxstring.
      TRY.
          CALL TRANSFORMATION
              zxxje_tst_xslt
            SOURCE omsregdatawebservice = wa_data
            RESULT XML tempxstring.
        CATCH cx_sy_conversion_base64.
        CATCH cx_sy_conv_illegal_date_time.
      ENDTRY.
      IF tempxstring IS NOT INITIAL.
        CLEAR: conv, temp_length, string_xml_result.
        conv = cl_abap_conv_in_ce=>create( input = tempxstring ).
        conv->read( IMPORTING data = string_xml_result len = temp_length ).
      ENDIF.

  • HELP: JSP + XML + XSLT = HTML?

    Hello, all.
    I am trying out Weblogic 6 and I am trying to get the JSP + XML + XSLT =>
    HTML chain working.
    I am coming from using Orion and SAXON.. and in that situation I had a JSP
    that contained XML tags... they were filled in at runtime and then using
    Servlet-Chaining was passed along to the SAXON XSLT Processer. SAXON checked
    for the inline XSL specified and then used that to transform the document
    into HTML.
    It worked well, but there were some other features missing/not documented
    that we now need.
    With Weblogic I am trying to use the XSLT Tag Library that comes with the
    distribution, but it seems to be very finicky. I followed the directions and
    I got it to do a sort of roundabout transformation. But it doesn't seem to
    work quite right.
    The best I can get is the following:
    I have an 'xslt' directory url-pattern-mapped to xslt.jsp (as instructed)...
    but can't figure out how to specify the xsl file on-the-fly... that is, if I
    don't hard-code the XSL file in the x:xslt element in the xslt.jsp it
    complains about some XML file not having a root element.
    Ideal situation:
    1. I have a JSP that includes XML elements.
    2. It is filled from a database at runtime and specifys (using a PI) what
    XSL stylesheet it is to be processed with.
    3. Somehow (fingers crossed) the XML is processed and transformed into HTML
    by the appropriate XSL file.
    I think I am mostly stuck moving between steps 2 and 3.
    Can anyone give me some hints? Are there some Weblogic specific
    elements/tags that I have to include in the XML file that Weblogic will
    catch and re-direct to the XSL Parser?
    Please, anyone, if you have some information, I would much appreciate it.

    PS - I apologize for the cross-post, I hope it doesn't cause too much
    traffic.

    Craig,
    I've since discovered how to do it with the WL Taglibrary... and have
    moved on =)
    It has to do with the EXTREMELY BADLY documented x:xml tag that can
    appear within the x:xslt tag body...
    So the WL Tag Library allows something like the following.
    (Please note, angled brackets are omitted in this post to prevent html
    parsing)
    [x:xslt stylesheet="sheet.xsl"]
    [x:xml]
    Here is the XML to run the sheet on.
    This should have all relevant XML syntax: the PIs, the doctype,
    root elements etc...
    [x:xml]
    [x:xslt]
    And that DOES work. But not very well. WL, a little prematurely
    incorporated versions 1.2 of Xerces and Xalan in their product -- and
    these versions have some irritating bugs.
    Also -- There tag library doesn't copy the source XML across as UTF-8
    .. so a lot of the Japanese I have embedded there (from a DB) gets
    mangled somewhere in their code...
    AND -- If you hammer a little bit on an JSP/XML that uses the WL Tag
    Library (eg clicking refresh lots of times in IE)... I get huge
    amounts of irritating exceptions appearing in the log files.
    NullPointerExceptions
    XSL Parsing Exceptions
    XML Parsing Exceptions
    but completely unpredictably...
    In my eyes.. the WL XML/XSL Tag Library using the incorporated and
    untouchable Xalan and Xerces (v1.2) is virtually unusable.
    What a pain.
    BUT! Apache offers a similar OPEN SOURCE XSL Tag Library available
    here:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/taglibs/doc/xsl-doc/intro.html
    And it uses the standard, non-weblogic-incorporated, Xerces and Xalan
    (which means you can provide whatever version you want).. and it works
    impressively well.
    It has almost identical performance as the WL Taglib, and without all
    of the bizarre exceptions being thrown.
    And it does proper passing of the character encoding type!
    If only the taglib did caching though =(
    The performance hit over pure JSP is huge. Almost two orders of
    magnitude. On my desktop box I can get around 500Requests/Sec if I am
    returning HTML direct from a JSP... while if I produce XML that gets
    processed by XSL into HTML the Requests/Sec drops to 5!!!!
    Caching. Caching. And more Caching. A lot of DiskIO is going on with
    the XML/XSL/XHTML chain of events.
    I hope this helps!
    I'd be curious as to what you find out as well.

    Yep, I feel Dylan's pain.
    I am trying to accomplish the same thing. A JSP page generating
    dynamic XML content and then utilizing an XSLT stylesheet to transform
    all the content into XHTML.
    Does anyone have some examples that show exactly how to accomplish
    this? Can I do this with WLS and the XML taglib that comes with
    it? Or do I have to move on to something like Cocoon to get this
    capability?
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • Execute a query using ABAP  (XSLT transformation issue)

    Hello,
    I made the steps from this blog (part I, II and III).
    /people/durairaj.athavanraja/blog/2005/12/05/execute-bw-query-using-abap-part-iii
    When trying to run the XSLT transformation, I got the message that : XML invalid source file.
    I am not sure what are the steps for running a transformation, or running it for this case ,maybe something it's not ok. I just run it, did not provide any information.
    Any suggestions ? Did anyone use the function module described in this blog ?
    Thank you very much in advance.

    try giving
    CALL TRANSFORMATION (`ID`)
    SOURCE meta = meta_data[]
    output = <ltable>[]
    RESULT XML xml_out
    OPTIONS xml_header = 'NO'.
    and check - sometimes the codepages configured in the BW system tend to cause an issue... I am not sure if the syntax is right though - but you are basically trying to bypass any encoding that is happening in the query transformation....
