Other computers in network can't find me

We use the following computers:
Dual PowerPC G5
Intel iMac
G4 Powerbook
Airport Extreme
Since upgrading my G5 PowerPC to 10.4.7 last week, the iMac can connect to me via FTP only and cannot access the external hard drives at all, while the Powerbook can't connect at all (even though "Mike's G5" shows up in the Servers menu in the finder). The iMac is still able to print (the printer is connected to the PowerPC), but that's it.
Prior to upgrading, there were no problems connecting either computer to my computer and the external hard drives.
Please help.

You might need to tell us more about your network. Any chance you have 2 routers and they are using one and you are connected through the other?

Well, you could install the drivers to the wireless printer in you other computers.

You can share it with other Macs under your control (not your neighbor's). You just need to be logged in under the buying AppleID for updates or to download again.

Since you mention that the "modem" (which I'm guessing is a wireless router) is not close to the Time Capsule, I'm guessing a second time when I ask if you are trying to configure the Time Capsule to "join" your network using wireless only.

If nothing works, you most likely have a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple store to confirm.

I am trying to download the latest version of iTunes to my PC (windows XP) and I keep getting an error message or two. One is that it can't uninstall the previous itunes version, the other is that it can't find itunes.msi.

One is that it can't uninstall the previous itunes version, the other is that it can't find itunes.msi. I have tried removing the old version in add/remove programs, but it says the same error. I tried deleting every thing that has itunes in the file/folder/etc and it didn't help.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Once you are in Recovery Mode, it's too late to do any backup. I am afraid you are going to lose your data.

Wow, the wording in Migration Assistant is misleading. I've never used it before, so I thought I would try to copy my files from the external drive ... my old iMac died, but I managed to get everything I need off it, using the 'cp' command in single-user mode. So I guess I'll just have to manually copy the files from the external drive to the new machine. I was hoping that Migration Assistant might help somehow, but obviously not.

I have a iphone 3GS and approxiamtely 4 gigs of spaces is taken up by the other categoy. How can I find out what is being stored in the other section to free up some space.

Can anyone provide some insight on the problem that I am experiencing? I have an IPhone 3GS. Four of the 8 total gigs are taken up in the other category. I have attempted to delete apps numerous other things to free up space; however, I cannot determine why so much of the device's capacity is taken up in the other category. How can I find out what is stored in the other category to free up some of the device's storage capacity.

I won't be spending any more money on expensive books now that I know you can't actually get one that applies to the latest version.
Don't get me wrong. I like books. Classroom in a Book series is an excellent resource to have. You will learn a lot from it. Just don't get side-stepped by Creative Cloud's update schedule. No publishing house can keep pace with it. If you stay informed about new releases from Adobe's "What's New" Blogs, you will get your money's worth out of your books. Online Help (F1) is another good resource to use since it is updated fairly often.

Can't find other computers on network

Hi. Every once in a while (aka, 1/4 times) I can't see any other computers on my network. I am using a MacBook (with Tiger, of course), my brother has a a G5 iMac with Panther, there's an XP PC, and a win98 PC on the network. I access the network wirelessly and everyone else is wired to the router.
What happens is I that I go to the network tab in finder and wait but no computers show up, not even the other mac. I restart and that usually fixes it. The problem happens at totally random times.
The problem also occurs on the iMac, with the same behaviour.
Any ideas about what is happening?

I don't think that's it. Remember, it also happens to the iMac -- and it's wired to the router. When it happens the iMac isn't even able to see the other PC's, which are also wired.
This problem also occured before I got the MacBook -- it happened on the iMac. And at that time we only had a wired router. So, I was trying to access a PC with XP over a wired router with the iMac and it still happened. So, I'm guessing it's a problem with OSX (and not just Tiger because the iMac has Panther).
Oh and by the way, we currently use a wireless-g router by Trendnet (model number TEW-432BRP). It has 4 wired ports for ethernet cables and an antenna for wireless.

Can't see other computers on network through wireless/wired OK

Our wireless clients that connect through our AP541N cannot see other computers on the network. They can ping other computers by IP and host name and access the internet OK. Mapped network drives can be connected initially but are very unreliable and always end up disconnecting. Restarting the computer does not help. When these computers are wired they see the network as expected. Does anyone know why my wireless network would behave differently then the wired? The wired and wireless networks are on the same VLAN. The wireless clients are all Windows 7 systems. Thanks.

Thank you for posting. Go to Wireless Network Setup (VAPs) and see if Station Isolation is enabled for the SSID in question. From the Help menu:
When Station Isolation is disabled, wireless clients can communicate with one another normally by sending traffic through the AP.
When Station Isolation is enabled, the AP blocks communication between wireless clients on the same VAP. The AP still allows data traffic between its wireless clients and wired devices on the network, across a WDS link, and with other wireless clients associated with a different VAP.
