"Other" Content

iPhone 3GS, 32 GB syncing with 10.6.2 MacBook Pro, latest iTunes. Yesterday my phone kept on shutting off and rebooting itself so I decided to do a restore after the third time throughout the day. I had about 2 GB of free data on the phone before I restored it. I erased it ok and then was implementing restoring the backup overnight it failed because I was out of space it said. Turns out it had created a huge "other" category. I've since erased the phone again and am moving only certain things back again. I'm only half way through moving my music over as a last item and the other is up to 600 MB. Before the music it was about 300 MB. Does anyone know what this "other" content typically is? Is there an average size for this "other" content? Is there anyway to remove it?

Normal for me is about 290MB on my 32GB 3GS with total app size of about 1.8GB...
Restoring from back up is not what you want to do when trying to get rid of any OS issues... You would always want to use "set up as new iPhone" IF you're trying to get rid of OS bugs...

  • Is there any in build access security feature in apple tv? I am using this device as a service for my client and am afraid third party would cut in and display other contents.

I am planning to ofgfer the apple TV services for my client in a number of room. I know that apple TV could be set with different ID/label to differentiate them if I am, installing multiple device within the same wireless coverage SSID. However, how do I prevent intruders cutiing in with some other contents while my client is doing the presentation? For example in Room A, client A is doing the video opresentation vioa his Mac book Pro. there is always a possibility that some people with OS X Mountain Lion detect the device and decide to play a prank and start to push other contents to the Apple TV device in Room A. If the device could provide an authentication feature, there will actually resolve my concern. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks Richard

    Hi soo.richard,
You say it could be intruders cutting in - same problem/solution as for any network I think. Access can be password protected or access limited via MAC address filtering. I'm not sure how Apple Tv works with a hidden SSID but that would be another option.
Airplay itself can be password protected through the airplay settings.
I'm not sure if Apple TV works with other authentication such as a password but maybe the manual will assist with this?
    Hope this helps.

  • Viewing other content via Apple TV

I'm considering buying apple tv as it seems like a great product and I like the idea of its functionality. However, would it also allow me to stream other content from my computer such as Major League Baseball On line broadcasts? Appreaciate any help you can provide.

    padent,
Knowledge base article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304974 outlines what kind of music and video content can be played on the Apple TV.

  • Lots (2.24GB) of "Other" content on my 16GB 4S

I've got a 2+yo 16GB 4S (I know, how pathetic and behind the times am I), and on my last sync, I noticed there was 2.24GB of "Other" content on it.
I've had around 1.8/1.9GB Other content on it for a while, but since upgrading to iOS 8.0.2 last week, it's increased, and 2.24 of 16 is a heck of a chunk of wasted space.
This is probably a silly question, but is there an easy way of getting rid of any of this and freeing up some space, a way that doesn't require an PhD in Astrophysics or Applied Mathematics?

    Hi cheshireman,
If you feel you have an unusually high amount of space being taken up by Other files, you may find the steps in the following article useful (under Resolution); the article is aimed at a different but similar issue:
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync

  • TS2972 Apple TV will play some content but not other content

My AppleTV will recognize the available content on my computer and will play some of it, but when I try to watch other content it says that I must authorize the computer.  However, the computer is already authorized, which Apple TV sees because it will play my music and a TV show I've downloaded.  The content that it will not play was downloaded directly onto my iPad, and I can watch it on my iPad.  When I try to watch it on Apple TV, it says I need to authorize the computer.
This is very frustrating.  Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Just needed to Re-authorize the computer and every thing worked fine. I imagine this will solve most of the issues that I see posted on here concerning this problem.

  • Installed ios 5 now have 5g of other content

installed ios 5 and when it was finished my phone had 5g of other content which i can't get rid of. I have unchecked sync's etc but still no luck.

Looks as if it is to do with your iPhone, if it can't find any Wi-Fi networks and they are turned on and set to discoverable, even after restarting the router it's still unable to find it my recommendation is to do a restore through iTunes, the update may not have installed properly, I have an iPhone 4 16GB (Black) running iOS 5.0.1 and it finds my Wi-Fi networks and log's onto them no problem, so clearly the software works, just seems that your iPhone is having a bad time
You've done everything else I'd reccommend, normal re-boot, soft reset, reset network settings.
Think it's time to do a full back up in iTunes and do the restore, then see if that resolves the issue, be sure to let us know how it goes if you do decide to do this.

  • What is the "other" content on my 6th gen nano?

16 gig nano with only selected music and podcasts is showing 6.4 gig of audio and 8.4 gig of "other" content.  What is the other content and how do I remove it?

Other usually consists of specific files and that are not readable by iTunes such as the iPod's operating system, files that may be stored on the iPod (when using it as an external hard drive), album artwork, and in the case with older iPods, games.  However, sometimes, it always consists of corrupt files that are leftover from sync operations with iTunes that went bad.
The only way to reduce the size of the Other category is to connect the iPod to iTunes and restore it to factory settings.

  • If i update itunes will i lose my apps and contacts and the other contents?

if i update itunes will i lose my apps and contacts and the other contents?

No.  In fact, it is possible to uninstall iTunes and then re-install iTunes without losing any content.
Removing, updating, and repairing the application has no affect on the media stored on the system.

  • Integrating ucm with other content servers.

    Hi,
Can I integrate oracle ucm with other content servers like Alfresco,Documentum etc.If possible how can i do it?

    Hi
Yes , can do it in certain cases like Share Point where UCM has adapter components which would connect to the 3rd party CMS and data transfers can be possible .With Documentum as well I believe that there is an adapter which when installed on UCM / URM one can access to the other CMS.
Do not have any adapters apart from these 2 as far as I know.
    Thanks

ATV will play movie extras and all other content. Put will not play the movie it self! iTunes is currently unavailable. Try again later. Shows up every time!

Did you activate home sharing in both your iTunes and ATV?
Also try signing out of the ATV (Apple ID) and signing back in again.

  • I'm unable to transfer my contacts to my iPhone 3G during an iTunes sync. Other content appears to be syncing OK and all my ios5 devices are working fine! Can anybody help?

I'm unable to transfer my contacts to my IPhone 3G (latest ios 4.2.1 installed) during an iTunes sync. All other content appears to sync OK and my ios5 devices (iPhone 4s and iPad 2) are syncing fine.  I suspect this could be an iCloud issue as my iPhone 3G is not compatible with iCloud.  Can anyone help me out with this issue?

I solved this issue by turning off iCloud contacts sync - then my iPhone 3G would sync through iTunes as normal.  I then just turned iCloud contacts sync back on.  Job done!

  • Combining selectOneRadio with other content but text?

    Hi!
I got a quite simpel task I am currently not able to manage with JSF. I want to combine some Radio-Buttons with content like images or video, simply showing a radiobox in front an image and another and so on.
So in terms of JSF i thought i had to combine selectOneRadio, selectItem and graphicImage tags. But this doens't work. According to api selectOneRadio-Tags can only contain selectItem- or selectItems-tags.
So how can i manage to show some other content behing my radio buttons without writing my own tag? Mus be an eady solution...i hope ;o)
    Thanks!

    Hi all.
I know this thread is quite old, but does anyone knows (now) if there is a simple solution, or one need to write a custom compoment?
What I need is also a group of radio buttons with an associated image instead of text.
    Thanks.

  • Itunes purchased tv show won't play on my appletv 2 i keep getting a error 406 but all the other content will play just fine.

I bought a season of Top Gear from itunes and tried to play it on my AppleTV 2, nothing would happen just the spiral processing thing. So I tried to air play it from my Mac. I would receieve error 406 about my appletv not being connected. So I tried to airplay other content to my appletv it all worked fine. Now the airplay icon on the bottom right of the itunes window will say "computer" but as soon as I click on any video or tv content itunes automatically airplays it to my apple tv instead of my computer. Please help!

    (1) Like you I can stream video content acquired outside of iTunes to my Apple TV, but I can't appear to play any video purchased on iTunes. On the other hand, music I've purchased plays fine and since my music collection no longer includes protected files I'm of the opinion that this is most likely a DRM issue.
I don't know whether this issue appeared after iTunes 10.5 or the Apple TV 4.4.2 update.
It is of some importance to me that Apple resolves this quickly.
    (2) I am not experiencing any issues with the bottom right hand output selection. Have you tried disconnecting from your network, starting something and then reconnecting to see if that resolves the issue?

  • I see lots of "other" content after sync

I had a sync go bad one time during the music sync portion of the operation and since then I have had 3.5gb of other listed in my memory on itunes. How do I access this other content to delete it or confirm it it things that I really want. I believe it is a copy of my music that was being synced at the time because the other content was the same file size as my music content at the time.

I have added and deleted songs and that has not cleared the issue. The problem I have is that I have all my personal contacts on my phone and I do not have them in the computer that I sync with.......... MMMMMMMM guess I will copy my personal contacts and unload the photos and then do the restore. I appreciate your input

  • What is "Other" content

When I plug in my iPod to my computer, the capacity graph shows my 9.84GB of Audio and 11.09GB of Other content. What is this Other content? I have just a few photos, one audiobook and no video.

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists choose no and it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7
