Other data suddenly appears on iphone on itunes sync.  Resolution?

A significant amount of "Other" data suddenly appeared during the last iphone sync. Pushing iphone over quota. I can"t identify the source of the data.  How do I remove it to free up space?

I thought only I had encountered the issue
To figure out what kind of data has occupied so much space, tap Settings > General > Usage. If it shows apps, songs and videos that occupy too much space, then you should delete these files manually. If not, try SafeEraser to scan your iPhone. All kind of junk files will be displayed, let you remove them directly from your iPhone.

From the box the iphone came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)"
You will need Mac OS 10.5.8 or later in order to get itunes 10.5 or later, in order to connect your iphone.

Thanks for replying, I'm a real techno-cretin.  What do you mean by not using the backup?  I'm busy trying to restore my new phone and it's doing a 6 hour download with updates.  Can I restore the data from my old phone backup onto the new iPhone 4S when the download is done?

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Photos from Mac still appearing on iPhone, even though "sync photos from iPhoto" is unticked in iTunes?

A colleague has all his Mac photos showing up on his iPhone, even though the "Sync with iPhoto" tickbox is unticked when he syncs it with iTunes. He has PhotoStream turned off. What else is possible to clear the photos off his iPhone please?

Have him try putting the checkmark back in front of "Sync Photos From" on the Photos page of iTunes and change the selection of photos to be synced so that only one or two new photos is selected (and none of the existing ones) and then sync. If that removes the existing ones, then remove the checkmark and sync again.

  • "Other" data present on the iPhone

    Hi there,
I just wanted to know how to clear some of the "Other" data on my iPhone 5c.
I had looked for an answer to this question on the discussions before and some of the answers had said to restore my phone to factory settings and then sync it again and it should be clear. I just did that but I still have 3+ GB of "other" data and I just wanted to know how to get rid of it.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to copy free apps that are not on the App Store anymore to multiple iPhones through iTunes sync?

I have an old app on my iPhone that is able to run on ios7 but has now been deleted from the app store. I was wondering if iTunes sync would allow me to put it onto multiple iPhones with no problems - The iPhones that I want to copy it to are all the same (iPhone 5s), the app is on an iPhone 5s 16GB and I want to put it on an iPhone 5s 32GB.
    Thanks Tyler.

Thank you.  Your reply is very helpful.
I've never chosen to delete unused apps in my library because I was worried that if, in the future, one was of interest, that I'd have to re-purchase... so this is not the case then, right?  (I'd felt secure knowing that an app was stored on my computer... More than once, I've had to revert to backups and was glad to have copies of my apps safely stored away.)
I've been slow to adopt anything "cloud" so am not well versed on the benefits of using it.  So, just to be clear, if I delete an unused app in my local iTunes library, it will forever remain available in the cloud linked to my account, right?

  • A sorting songs by the "date added" bug on iPhone and iTunes?

So I've run accross a bug (maybe) that has really been annoying me for a few months now. It has been present since like iOS5 beta 3. It has to do with how my songs are sorted on my iPhone. I've always had my songs sorted by "date added" and I have never had a problem with them showing up in that way. During the beta, my songs started showing up backwards on my phone. My oldest songs would show up first on my phone's iPod even though in my iTunes they were sorted with the newest songs on top. I figured this was a bug and that it would be fixed by apple in the later versions of iTunes and after the official release of iOS5, but I was wrong. It didn't fix after I receieved my 4S. On a side note, I was having this problem initially on my iPhone 4, and it continued on to my iPhone 4S. This is probably one of the MOST ANNOYING problems I've had with my iPhone because my car displays my songs in the order they are on my phone too, and in my car I have to use a wheel and not a touchscreen to scroll all the way to the bottom (you get my point). I haven't actually found a fix for this to where everything works as it is supposed to, but today as I was tinkering with my iTunes to finally fix this problem I decided to sort all my songs by "newest songs modified" just to see if it would fix my sorting problem. It worked. My phone now has all my new songs on top of each of my playlists in ONLY the playlists I choose to have sorted in that specific way. After I realized this fixed my problem, I tried to re-sort all my songs by "date added" again just to see if it would fix my problem because having them sorted by "date modified" is an annoying problem I just dont want to have. It didn't work. So right now, I am sorting my songs on my phone by "date modified" because "date added" doesnt sort them the way it is supposed to when any playlist is transferred from my iTunes to my iPhone. Anyone know whats up? How can I let apple know about this annoying problem? Could it just be me and my computer? I've gone through multiple versions of iTunes, iOS5s including beta, and I've had the problem on two different iPhones. Coincidence? By the way I'm running windows 7, and no, I haven't searched much for this problem on forums or on google because it seems too specific to my situation (and im too lazy to look hard enough).

my problem started with the recent upgrade and this idea (sort on PC iTunes by date modified) worked. I did have to remove my playlist from my phone first and then resync to get things to respond but it seems to work. Why on earth Apple does not provide a mechanism for sorting ON THE F*&^ING PHONE is beyond me. For a company who's mantra is building things that 'they'd want to use' this gaff cannot possible fit into that paradigm.

  • Where do i see syncd data's of my iphone in itune

What do you mean retrieve?  iTunes does a backup so the data can be restored to another iDevice but there is no way (without using third party software) to access that data.

Plug in new phone and restore it using the backup from the old phone.

  • Songs not appearing on iPhone or iTunes - as if they were never there!

My old iPhone broke for no reason, so I got a new one (luckily I was still under warranty)
I restored the settings that I could.... Lost everything from Sept and Oct, though.
I was given a giftcard, which I claimed and bought songs and apps with.
Some of these songs arent appearing on my new iPhone, or my iTunes library... and I cant find them in my purchase history.
I definately bought them, and the downloads were fully complete. They were purchased weeks before it broke.
Please can someone help me get them back?

Okay, I still have no traces of them...
I think it was around 4 ringtones, and 20 individual songs - I dont want to have to pay for these all over again!

  • Is it possible to see the data after backing up iPhone on iTunes?

Of course the pics are in there, but what about the contacts and apps etc.  Cant you see this info? whats the point of backing it up if you can't find it - lets say u lose your phone or left it somewhere and want to find a contact number…

Since you backed up your device to iTunes, you can restore to Factory Settings, and the select Restore from Backup, then you select the backup you want to restore from and let it restore.
And yes, your Photos take up an enormous amount of space. You can check yourself to see how much space they are taking (once you get restored) by going to Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage. There you will see the list of items on your device and how much room each of them takes.
You need to import your photos to a computer, or store them on a cloud service like Dropbox or Flikr.
To import to a Mac or PC:
    PHOTO IMPORT IOS TO MAC/PC
And again, you did not indicate whether you have Contacts turned on in iCloud. If you do, then you can see them in iCloud.com on your computer.

  • 9.3GB of "Other" data on iPad, after switching between iTunes libraries

I have a New iPad, and there's 9.3GB occupied by "Other" storage I can't seem to get rid of.
Here's some background that may be relevant.
I recently bought an iPad, connected it to my Mac and synced the Music library.
I later switched to a PC, and wanted to connect the iPad to my new PC (and never again to my Mac). The PC has a different Music library.
When I first connected the iPad to the New PC, it asked me whether it's ok to completely erase the previous library and resync this one. I confirmed. I then went to choose specific playlists to sync (a total of ~60 songs, much less than 10GB).
Ever since, I have this big chunk of Other storage occupied.
After searching a bit online, I saw a recommendation to download iExplorer. Playing with it showed me that under Media-->iTunes_Control-->Music I have many libraries (F00-F49) full of MP3s. Seems like here lies the problem. But I don't know if I can delete them.
    What should I do?
    Thanks

If "Others" is unusually large, you may have something that is corrupted.
    A Restore is recommended.
Do a search and you'll find many discussions on this problem.

  • Iphone to itunes sync fail during step 3

HI I uprgraded my Iphone to the new ios 8 and now I cant sync it anymore.
The fail occurs during step 3 when it is transferring purchased apps.
The error text reads "The Iphone could not be synced because this computer is no longer authorized for purchased items that are on this iphone"
It then says "To authorize the computer for items purchased from the Itunes store, choose store > authorize this computer".
I have tried this multiple times, even unathorized it to authorize it again.
This Iphone still has some items under the previous owners apple ID, I dont know which ones have crossed over until it comes to app update time when it tells me.
I have been systematically deleting them one by one as they appear then downloading the app again from the app store under my apple ID.
Is this the correct thing to do or is this possibly why my sync is failing?

    Hello, toshrobbo.
I've found an article that may help you sort things out with iTunes:

    Symptoms
This article provides some general suggestions when trying to troubleshoot an issue where iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7 won't open, stops responding, or unexpectedly quits. It may be useful to print this document before following the steps outlined below.
