"Other Devices" Yellow Question Marks

In my quest to get sound on my computer, I have noticed that everything under my "Other Devices" tab under "Device Manager" has the yellow question marks beside them. I have a "Biometric Coprocessor" "Network Controller" "SM Bus Controller" and a "Unknown Device" tab listed here. Should I be concerned about these? And, if so, is this another driver issue like the sound was? Thanks for your time and here are my specifics.

This table might help you.
You also can try to identify the device in the device manager on the "Details" - tab of each device in the "Device instance ID".
If there is an ID like "PCI\VEN_yyyy&DEV_xxxx..." input the "xxxx" in the right imput field on www.pcidatabase.com
In the result list compare the "yyyy" (above) with the VEN-ID and then you have found the device name.
Other/similar  "Device instance ID" starting with "USB..." or "ACPI" you will find in the table i've linked above.
The drivers you will find here
Have success.

  • MSI K9A2 platinum + Win XP sp3: hardware device yellow question mark

Hi; I finally got a working system (MSIk9a2 plat mobo was defective, many days wasted):
9ka2 plat with amd 9850 BE
     bios 1.5
     2x1Gb 1066 OC
WD velociraptor with OS Win XP sp3,
     2x ATI 4850 in X-fire
all latest drivers from MSI website downloaded and installed
...but I still have a yellow questionmark for a RAID-controller (situated in "PCI-slot 9, bus 3, device 0, function 0"). No driver on the original cd that came in the box would help, nor would the drivers I downloaded from MSI for this mobo make a change to this yellow questionmark. I did for sure install the SB600 raid drivers, because under "SCSI and RAID controllers" it shows that the AMD AHCI compatible raid-controller and the AMD RAID console have been correctly installed).
I suspect this issue is about the Promise raid controller chip, but I cannot find the driver.

You can the drivers from MSI web ==> http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=driver&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1332

  • Does anyone know why I am getting a yellow question mark by my AS3 .swf?

I developed a few Actionscript 3 animations in CS Flash 5 to use in Cp5.  Instead of the green ball icon in the upper right corner of the animation, I am getting a yellow question mark like I did when with my Actionscript 2 .swfs.  The reason I created new ones in AS3 was to avoid any conflict.  Hmmm
The new ones I am trying to use are Moving Red Circle, Moving Red Rectangle, and Moving Exclamation Point.  The Green Ball items are from Cp5 Gallery.
    Thanks

Ah...that explains why you would be seeing these icons.
When Captivate's library opens, it goes through and checks the locations of the objects in the library to see if it still can connect to the source file locations.
I would say the way to get around this would be to have the path to all source files replicated on each machine you work on.  So if you set up a C:/Projects directory with exactly the same folder structure on each PC you use, the path to source files should remain the same.  But I think trying to keep all the files in three machines always synced up will be more trouble than it's worth, personally.

    Hi,
Can you post back with the following details.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
    2.  Regarding the PCI device, go into Device Manager, right click on the problem device and select Properties.  Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.

  • MMS showing up on the other end as question marks?

MMS is working almost perfectly for me, but there have been a few instances where it has screwed up a little.
The same problem has occurred a few times now, but there have been a few images I tried to send to a friend that showed as 'Sent' on my iPhone, but my friend told me these images were showing up as question marks.
He describes it as "a teeny tiny picture of a hill with a piece of paper on the top of it, and a question mark".
This has happened, as I said, with a few different pictures, on a few different occasions.
The pictures finally were able to go through after I took a screencap of them, and sent him the screencap. This is the part I find strange. Is it possible that hyphens in the filename might be screwing up the delivery of these images? I find it so strange that I try sending the same picture three times, and all three times it shows up as that strange question mark picture, but when I send a screencap, it goes through just fine.
Another friend of mine said that a picture he sent to someone also showed up as a question mark on the other end.
Anyone else experiencing this? Anyone know what the problem could be?

    Anyone?

Hi, my toddler pressed some keys on my keyboard and now some of my symbol keys such as comma, hyphen etc do not work. Others such as . and ? Are fine. Does anyone know how to fix? Thanks

You may have this sorted out by now - but if not try resetting your Language to English.  I had the issue and found the emoji keyboard was set to spanish.

  • Capacity indicator: what's "Other" (in yellow mark)

In addition to the video or musical files, the indicator shows 'OTHER" in yellow
metering mark, but I don't know what it contained into "OTHER"\.
In my case this sector it's way bigger then my pics and music files:
Could anyone give me an idea as per the possible nature of the content in this
    indicator?
    Thanks
    Tammy

Could be data, contacts, favorites, calendar, etc
It is normal for it to be 400 - 800 MB.
If yours is much larger, then it indicates a corrupt file and a restore should resolve.

  • Camera coming up as other devices!?

Ok, I ended up using a free program called iphonebrowser, having read about it on this site:
    http://iphonetouch.blorge.com/2008/05/09/how-to-get-music-off-an-ipod-touch-ipho ne-in-windows/
So I copied all my music (was only 5GB) and then plugged my ipod touch in and am just transferring it all back. Obviously this is fine as I only had a small amount, but I lost my playlists as well. Any different ideas would be appreciated!

  • Soundblaster Live! Platinum, Windows XP SP2 & "Multimedia Audio Controller" w/Yellow Question M

I am setting up a brand new PC, but using some old trusted parts, like my SB Li've! Platinum, with the Li've Dri've.
In the past, setting up with Windows XP w/SP never resulted in any problems. I would have the Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG).exe file on CD and once I booted to the Windows Desktop, I could browse the CD, install the drivers without incident.
Enter Windows XP w/SP2 ... this is a fresh install with SP2 slipstreamed into the install media. This comes direct from Microsoft via MSDN Download, and is not a home grown piece of install media.
When the installation completes, I have sound, but I also have the following:
In the Device Manager, under Other Devices, I have an entry for:Multimedia Audio Controller (yellow question mark)
I also have under Sound, video and game controllers, entries for:Creative SB Li've! (WDM)Creative SBLi've! Gameport
When I launch the programs in the Sound Blaster Li've! group, I get the following:
    a) Audio HQ"Cannot initialize audio dri've. Reinstall audio driver.
    b) Creative Sound Mixer"CeDevcon.dll has returned an error. Mixer will now exit.
    c) Creative Restore Defaults"There were some errors encountered while restorine your soundcard's settings. Some settings could not be restored.

  • Question mark on photo

I resized a picture in PSE7 and now it has a yellow question mark on it, it's out of focus and it's not letting me reconnect - any suggestions how to get my picture back so that I can save and print it?

Yellow question mark is a sign of missing file which indicates that somehow your file got deleted or might be you moved it to different location on your hard disk. If you have moved it, you can always reconnect the file. When you double click the thumbnail, it search for missing file. You can direct it to the new location of the file and get it reconnected.
Please see if this solves your problem.

  • Question mark on my pictures.

I transferred some pictures into photoshop elements 13 from my pc
They have a small box on top left hand corner with yellow question mark
I believe this means the files are missing.
I have been back to my pc and they are not there any more.
How can I get these back?
Please help as I cannot move forward until I get help.
    Thanks

    Hi and thanks for helping,
It kind of helps and kind of doesn't.....it says never to move, rename or delete files or folder outside the software.
    I may have done that
It also says if you remember the original name of the file/folder it may find it,
I tried that and nothing happened.
Bottom line is, do you know from what I said, that I cannot retrieve these photos at all, ever?
If that's the case I will let it be and move on (but I hope not)
Hope you can help once again Nickna12, I much appreciate.

  • Old question about question marks

I have asked this question several times, but I still cannot figure out how to fix the problem.  I am getting small yellow question marks in the upper left corners of my pictures which renders the pictures unusable.  I have been told to move the files back to their original positions.  Ok, so what does that mean.?  How do I find out where the files go and then how do I move them.  If you are getting tired of my asking about this topic, imagine how I feel asking it.  Again, all help appreciated...doc

The question mark is shown for the missing files. This means that files are not present at their original location in windows explorer. Either the folder containing the files has been moved to different location or the folder has been renamed. To reconnect all the files, go to File->Reconnect->Reconnect missing files. A dialog box will open up and then you need to browse to the new location of the file.Once connected, the question mark will go away.

  • T61 - No sound - Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus with yellow exclamation mark

    Hi,
I am not sure when it started but suddenly my T61 has no audio/sound. I checked the Device Manager and did see the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus with yellow (big) question mark with yellow exclamation mark superimposed on it. I downloaded, from Lenovo Support site, the 7ka114ww.exe , hoping to fix it by un-install that device, reboot it,  and re-install using the download exe file, but to no avail.
Any suggestion or help is really appreciated. Many thanks in advance
PS. I also see the Base System Device pop up after a reboot and ask to be installed ?!? That pop-up had been there for a while before the audio/sound was lost.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Maliha,
I followed your instruction to execute the exe file under C:\Drivers. After that, I rebooted the system and no more error pop up for the missing audio device. I checked the Device Manager and the Audio Device on High Definition Audion Bus disappeared and the SoundMax was shown. But again, still no sound. I clicked on TroubleShooting on that SoundMax and followed that instruction. I found out the default Sound device was erroneously pointed to BlueTooth. I made the change to SoundMax and voila ... the sweet ding sound came back.
That was a wonderful feeling to be able to fix  this nagging problem that my company HelpDesk could not help me. All thank to this forum and particular Maliha. Again, my appreciation to the valuable help.
