Other Fields for Live Captions in CS5

I want to use the Live Captions feature in CS5, but there is no option to insert a time field in the Live Captions Options dialog box.  Am I missing something or what?  I can't believe this feature was left out.  The Live Captions feature is an excellent idea, but it lacks power.
thanks

  • Combine metadata fields for a caption?

In Aperture 3.2.2 is it posible to create a field in the metadata view which combines data from more than one field?  I want an easy way to cut and paste basic EXIF data to use in a photo caption, without having to copy data from each field seperately.  For example, I'd like all my captions in a blog or a book to contain Camera Model, Lens, Shutter Speed, Aperture, Exposure Comp., and ISO.  Can I get all of that data automatically inserted into one field which I can then copy from?  Hopefully the question makes sense.
    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick answers.  I want have a caption whcih I can paste under each each photo in a book or blog which looks something like this: "Nikon D300s, Nikkor 70-200mm f.2.8, 1/640sec @ f.4.8 (-0.33ev), ISO 400".  At the moment I have to type that out each time.  I was hoping I could create a field in the metadata similar to a database field which combines data from other fields.  The outcome would be that I could just cut and paste the data from a single field, and it would always follow the same format, etc.  Looks impossible?

  • 5 seconds to Paradise: From where InDesign reads the live captions?

    Hi all,
After searching a lot in finding the best cross-platform organizer & viewer around, I finally (ALMOST) found it.
It is called XnView MP and it has an ultra-fast thumbnail manager, viewer - it supports a very big number of file formats for thumbnailing/viewing - including InDesign(!) - a top-notch cataloging, the best & fastest batch convert which I could find and... <insert your advertising of choice here>.
    Highly recommended.
    </ad off>
    However there is a problem:
When we add/edit the metadata for an image (specifically the caption) in its IPTC/XMP editor (Ctrl+I), the text isn't shown with the Live Captions feature of InDesign CS6.
We discuss with the developing team of XnView MP and they are very responsive and want to fix the problem but we don't know (yet) from where InDesign reads its metadata.
Some more technical info to describe the problem:
    1. The files are TIFF (LZW packed) files.
    2. If we open the file in Photoshop, press Ctrl+Shift+I in order to bring its IPTC editor, the caption entered with XnView shows up correctly in the Description field.
    3. If, after the step 2, we close the editor with 'Ok' do a 'Save As' in Photoshop and overwrite the file, the caption will appear correctly in InDesign.
    4. If, after the stpe 3, we (re)open the image in XnView MP's IPTC editor the caption is there.
It seems that Photoshop does something behind the scenes and fill the area from where InDesign reads it.
Does someone know from what fields InDesign reads its info for Live Captions?

I don't really have an answer for you - I guess it's up to them to figure it out.
Sorry I can't help any further.

  • Active Layer Name as Text Variable/Live Caption?

    Hi all,
I work for a company that uses heavily layered InDesign files to create variable brochures, with the appropriate layers activating for output as pdfs based on user information. Our clients often have difficulty discerning what layer they're looking at when we send them proofs for approval, and I'd like to find a way to have the names of active layer on any given page appear automatically in the slug, as though they are text variables or live captions.
One rather inelegant solution I've come up with is creating a small uncolored picture to put onto each layer, with the layer name as that picture's file name, and link it for Live Captioning. This is a huge messy timesuck though, and I'd love to see if I can just dedicate a text variable to display the names of active layers on a page prior to output. Any help/info is very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Willi—that's a great point. I was simply hoping to avoid the reiterative task of writing it out in the slug so it would change automatically if the layer name was changed, and having to go back through old files to put this info in (each document typically has 150+ layers). If I can't find an automated solution, this is most likely the route I'll be taking.

  • Count and Other fields - VBAK

    Hi All,
I want to find the count the no of Orders from VBAK for a combination of VBTYP and AUART.
Select Count(*) from vbak into table t_vbak where vbeln in s_vbeln
                                                                  and    vkorg eq p_vkorg
                                                                  group by vbtyp  auart.
This will only give the count.
I also need other data like erdat ernam and a bunch of other fields for this combination.
Do I need to select again from VBAK??
    Any ideas.
    Meghna

    Hi Meghna,
The statement you written above, Is it correct, Is it working,,,
I will not work as in count(*)  it will not allow to select the data into a table and instead you need to write like this.
    DATA : i_vbak type i.
Select Count(*) from vbak into i_vbak where vbeln in s_vbeln
Then you will get the no. of records,,,
It give No difference again to count Erdat or Ernam...! As it will be the same count.
If you need the Maximum then it will give you ethe maximum date but for time it give maximum time in 24 Hours but it may be different from the latest date time....
lets say you ha two record in April & May,, May you created time at 1 PM.. In April you created at 3 PM..
for max time,,,, you will get April,
And for max date you will get May,,,
    remember that.
Count is for No. of records,,, & Max is for maximum no. or date or version,,,
    Thanks & regards,

  • CS5 - Live Caption with Custom XMP Metadata?

    (I USE CS5 on WINDOWS 7)
I currently have a custom panel (witch custom namespace) up and running, and have many of my photos correctly tagged.
For this example, I opened a new Indesign document, placed a previously tagged JPEG
Then I right-click the image from the Links panel and select "XMP File Info..."
I see the custom XMP namespace tab, along with all of the data I previously entered (so I know the image is correctly tagged)
BUT, when I go to Caption Setup, I only see legacy IPTC options from the metadata dropdown
    Am I missing something here?

I'd be interested to know the same thing.  I have metadata stored in a custom XMP namespace, populated through a custom File Info panel.  But I don't see if it's possible to edit the 'Metadata' list in the Live Captions Setup to access these or if it's limited to the default set that I can see when I access the feature?

  • When importing photos with iBooks Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the imported photo?

When importing photos with the iBooks Author Gallery widget, is anyone aware of a technique for simultaneously importing the photo's description (or jpeg file name) and writing it into the iBook Author caption field for the corresponding imported photo? I have 4,800 stills to import and can't imagine it's necessary to copy and paste the description for each.

As always, feel free to use the 'Provide iBooks Author Feedback' menu item for features you'd like added in the future, etc.

  • CS5 Live Caption Issue with Anchored Images

For some reason, InDesign will not let me add a live or static caption if it is anchored in the body. I can put it on the pasteboard and add it but not while it is anchored. Does anyone know of a work-around?

    Hi Richard,
I have the same problem as you do. I'm working on user manuals, with hundreds of screen captures I want to flow with text. The Live caption feature is wonderful, only it does not work with anchored images! If anyone out there finds a way to deal with this issue, or knows of a patch or update to download...

  • GREP for numbers after using Live Caption

    Hello,
I am placing image material with live captions in indesign. The file name created usually goes like this:
    Credit: 0617 name.jpg
I would like to remove the date (0617) as well as .jpg automatically. I can do the later with a text search function, however,
due to different dates I can't do the same there.
My Grep codes (\d+) do not seem to find any numbers in the image captions. The captions are static by then.
Any ideas what could go wrong there?
    Cheers

Live captions, section markers, and other variables or treated like a single character.
You say, "The captions are static by then".
Static Captions—These would be treated as normal text and your expressions should work fine.
Live Captions—These will automatically update based on the filename of the associated linked media. As mentioned before, they are treated as a single character.
    Grep Style
    (:\s\K\d+\s|\.\l+$)
    Description of Expression
(:\s\K\d+\s|\.\l+$) Find a one or more digits and a whitespace character that follows
(:\s\K\d+\s|\.\l+$) That comes after a colon followed by a whitespace character
    (:\s\K\d+\s|\.\l+$) Or
(:\s\K\d+\s|\.\l+$) Find a period followed by one or more letters, which come at the end of a paragraph
Character Style used by above expression to hide the found characters
    Basic Character FormatsSize = 1pt
    Advanced Character Formats
    Horizontal Scale = 1%
    Vertical Scale = 1%
    Character ColorNone
    Solution
Set up the aforementioned grep style in your caption paragraph style, as well as the associated character style.
Generate Static Captions for your photos Object > Captions > Generate Static Captions
If you frequently use this layout, you may consider setting the caption options to place the captions on their own layer. This way you can easily remove all at once and regenerate static captions.

  • InDesign CS5.5--can't generate live captions

Having used Bridge to insert metadata descriptions and copyright info in my graphics files, and having done "caption setup" in Objects Menu, I find that the Captions Submenu choices for "Generate Live Caption" and "Generate Static Caption" are greyed out. I am doing an ebook with inline pictures and have placed the jpegs at the beginning of paragraphs. I can't replicate any of the smooth successes depicted in all the "How To" videos. What am I doing wrong, please?

Many thanks! Hope there's a script out there, with multi-chapter epubs growing by leaps and bounds. I also found this comment on another forum page from Peter Spier: "To group the image and the frame with the caption you'll need to "unanchor" the image first by selecting the frame and cutting. Paste temporarily on the pasteboard, position the caption frame, group, then cut and paste back into the text. You may need to adjust the "anchored object options" for the anchored group after pasting." Your comment and his will give me a direction for the dozens of images I already positioned inline. After that, much smoother sailing, understanding this part of the mechanics.

  • Cannot select fields for calculating other fields~

Help -- I am tryiing to get certain fiels in a form to calculate based on selection of other fields.  The fields to be selected already have values in them.  (The same format I have used for several years, just new set of forms)
I get through the point of setting up the field properties to calculate and I select Sum of...   Then it simply will not let me select any fields to use for calculations -- unless I select all fields.
Please -- this is time sensitive and urgent any help responses needed and welcome!

Sounds like you are having issues with Acrobat and not FormsCentral. You would get a better help if you post your question on the Acrobat's forum

  • How to diable only one field enabled and other fields disabled for one user group?

    Hi,
I have a form contains many fields. A group of users can add items using that form.
As per the user requirement I have created a filtered view and that filtered view can be seen by some other sharepoint user group but as per their further requirement the new sharepoint user group is only allowed to update Remarks field. All other fields
    should be disabled for them.
In my idea, I have to create multiple forms and in one of it except Remarks field all should be disabled but I am unable to assign multiple forms to a single list.
Or how to make Remarks field enable to this user group and for other admin user group all fields could be enabled.
Hope I have expressed my question correctly.
    Any solution would be appreciated.

There is no Out of the Box way to set permissions on each column, primarily due to the performance impact. The following thread provides some options,

Do you have Excel Services? if so, this article may be of use to you:
    http://sergioblogs.blog.co.uk/2013/01/08/infopath-2010-and-excel-services-in-sharepoint-15407321/
You can configure an excel workbook to validate if a date is a working day and then use formulas to workout the working date for 5 days after the date you enter, then link your InfoPath form to connect to the excel workbook and return the result of your
    calculation.

  • InDesign XMP Not Working with Live Caption

I have images in InDesign CS5 (Mac OS X 10.6..), and although they have XMP data (Set from Bridge), when I set with Live Caption, my caption always says "<No data from link>". I've set up captions in Objects > Captions... > Caption Setup - metadata to "Description" and the XMP data doesn't get put into the caption. I can see the XMP information in Links > Image >  XMP File Info... "Description". That's Fine. I've tried other user-defined fields, "Title, Keywords"  and none work in Live Caption. I've also been updating the images after setting the XMP data in Bridge. I've also just deleted the images and re-placed them. Still can't get live caption to work.
I also saw a related thread where a user set file XMP via photoshop (CS5), which I also tried. When I do that, InDesign CS5 doesn't see the XMP data (via Links > XMP File Info). I can see it if set via Bridge, but can't make Live Caption work. If I set XMP via Photoshop, I can't see XMP data, and naturally can't set Live Caption.
I could have done my project 5 times manually by now - but the fact this isn't working has been driving me crazy. Wondered if anyone has seen this or, hopefully, got it to work. And am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Matt

I think this is a bug - probably in Photoshop (though the various engineering teams may disagree on this ).
    Here's what I did:
Opened a TIFF image in Photoshop CS5, and confirmed that it had "Description" metadata.
Placed it in InDesign CS5 and created a live caption which DID work.
Saved the image as a PNG using "Save for Web and Devices" in Photoshop CS5 with metadata set to "All".
Placed that PNG in InDesign CS5, and found that a live caption did NOT work
Examined the PNG image in Bridge CS5, and found that the description WAS shown
Opened the PNG image in Photoshop CS5, and found that the description field was empty (in fact all fields were).
Looked at the "Raw Data" section in the File Info dialog box in Photoshop, and found that it was essentially empty.
Opened the PNG in a hex editor, and found that the missing metadata WERE there, but somehow must be formatted/structured in a slightly incorrect way which somehow prevents Photoshop and InDesign from properly parsing the XML, but not so far afield as to prevent Bridge from doing so.
I would suggest filing a bug report against Photoshop CS5 since it cannot read the metadata that one of its own components wrote into the file.
