'Other files' in iTunes
My iPhone 4 (16GB) has recently been crashing alot as well as having a new issue where it completly locks up and vibrates non stop. Today I connected it to iTunes to discover that I had over 12 GB of files in the other section.
I did a factory reset and upon my iCloud backup I have 4GB of other files on the reset before any apps have downloaded, what can I do and would you suggest I take it to a genius bar as it is still in warranty?
If restore from backup did not help, then restore as new.
If both of these fail, then make an appointment at the genius bar.

How to see what is in the "other" file on itunes
I updated my iPhone about a week ago, and all my pictures got synced to itunes and of my iPhone. I cant find any of these pictures on i tunes or on my laptop. I think they are somewhere in the "other" folder on itunes, but I just dont know how to open it. It says it uses up 3gb.

When I plug my ipod touch to my computer normally from itunes we are able see how much capacity is left or how much capacity does songs fill.But when I looked at it, next to music, videos, photos, books...there is a part called "other" that fills 220 mb of my 8 gb ipod's capacity. I research this a lot and I even asked to an apple store but they can't explain it either and for other people this "other" file even fill 5 gb or lot more. So I really want to solve this problem. And some people says that itunes copy files 2 times but even it copies I wanted to know how can I fix it cause I don't know where it copy files. Also please don't say restore it cause it won't work. Other is a variety of things including album art, contact info, application data. The amount you're describing sounds about right for the size of your Touch. If "Other" ends up being several gigabytes, it usually means a corrupt database. This can be resolved by restoring the Touch.

The iTunes Home Sharing feature applies to any items in your iTunes ibrary.
However, Home Sharing has an "Automatic Transfer" feature that only works on items purchased from the iTunes Store. Other items have to be transferred manually. See more info here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620 -
When I sync my iPhone to itunes it shows over 7GB of "other" files.
My phone has been showing a "full" status and when I synced it I saw that no matter how many songs and apps I deleted, the "other" category kept growing. My brother told me about a trick to swipe the "music" section in the "about/ usage" setting and this seemed to get rid of the "other" but it also seemed to mess up my music player app- it keeps skipping through my songs.
I have attempted to fix it using this again but it has not worked. I have over 7GB of "other" files, my voice memos are no longer on my playlist despite selecting it to sync. I also seem to have lost over 200 songs which will not sync. I have only ever purchased music via itunes.
My phone continues to warn me that it is full but I do not know how to get rid of the "other" category. I am surprised to find out that apple charges $35 to get support. Wow.
Any help on this would be great, because I seem to have lost access to my music, I've lost important voice memos, my music app is not playing properly, and my phone continues to warn me that it is full.

Can I include external drives to be backed up using Time Machine? Not only do I want to back up my IMac, but I have several extenal drives for one iPhoto, one iTunes and one for other files & documents. How do I know if they are included in the backup process?

I recently purchased a movie (Prometheus) on my computer through iTunes and every time I try to put it on my iPhone, it fails. How can I successfully sync this video? Mind you, every other file syncs flawlessly.
Can you connect to a wifi source on the device? Enable wifi in settings on the device itself. If you don't have wifi at home, there may be a local hotspot you can use for this.
The reason this happens is carriers don't want people downloading huge files that would slow their network as well as eat up your data plan. -
When I watch tv shows in Front Row that I've bought off iTunes the audio gradually falls out of sync with the video. It does not happen with other files that I have converted into mp4s. Any ideas for fixing this? It's a huge bummer...
I too have the same problem. The audio drop out of sync in about 5 sec in not uncommon for the audio to be 30+ sec behind video. Apple needs to fix this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its a joke, my iphone is all messed up after the last update as well. at one time not to long ago apple products and software were top rated, not so much any more, more and more problems are showing up and apple is unwilling or unalbe to fix the many issues. Apple needs to fix the audio sync problem, it not the computer hardware or other software it ITUNES!!!!, there is no workaround other then hitting pause and hitting pause and hitting pause to temp fix the problem.

Just updated my iPhone 5 to iOS8 and most of my music disappeared. Attempted to sync with iTunes to get it back but iTunes now says I am 26GB over capacity and "Other" files are taking up just over 29GB! What is going on and how do I fix this?I had restored my iPhone 5 to factory settings and that cleared the problematic "Other" problem. Flash forward a couple weeks and the problem has once again resurfaced.
I tried updating iTunes and iOS to the newest versions and the problem still persists.
I'm officially ready to switch to Windows Phone or Android now...

After installing the current update for the Mac I noticed that all my pictures, Itunes library and some apps and other files disapeared from the computer. Anyone know any voodoo to bring them back?

Why can't I download my already purchased music and other files from iCloud, even though I owe money to iTunes for my most recent purchases. Doesn't seem right that they keep me from accessing those files which I've already paid for!
- Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
- Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
- Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck

I am having issues related to storage and I believe this is causing my computer to slow down. "Other" files part is the major occupier(180 GB). I have done Omni disk and multiple other cleaning(iTunes-device, restart, etc), yet have not been able to empty any more space, nor to speed up my computer? Any suggestions? There is no "update icon" in iOS versions earlier than iOS 5.
The update is very large (over 1.2 gigabytes). You need a good internet connection to download it to your computer. Maybe you'll need to take a trip to a city to get a good enough connection. -
When I synch my phone or other devices to itunes, I get a message that the following songs could not be synched to itunes because the file could not be converted. However, these are songs that I bought directly from Itunes. Any suggestions?

I understand that you are not able to sync a few songs you purchased from iTunes to your iPhone and other devices. There may be an issue with the file, but if you have the Apple ID and password used to purchase the songs, you can redownload them. You can even download the song directly to your iPhone. I found an article that will give you steps to do this on your computer and on your iPhone:
