okie dokie so i reallie need help and i am very confused! so i have a 4 gb ipod nano and i alreadie know that there is about 3.6 of it i can actually use.so my question is:i have 2.72 gb of songs,986.5 kb of photos, and 974.9 mb of "other". what is other? and how do i clear up that space and i want to take off my photos.....HELP???!!!!

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. One symptom of this issue will be displayed in iTunes where the Capacity indicator for the iOS device will report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the device. To resolve this issue:
- Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
- Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
- Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
- Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.

Start up Log In screen (box) shows "Other", how can I get rid of this user.

My Log In screen (start up box) shows my normal user names and something called "Unknown". How do I get rid of this Unknown name?
I tried deleting "Unknown" in the System > Accounts, but he is not there.

I followed your link supplied, #5 below is an issue, I have no "Edit..." button to click. There is a "Network Account Server: Join..." button.

1. From the Apple menu choose System Preferences....
2. From the View menu choose Accounts.
3. Click on the lock and authenticate with an administrator account.
4. Click Login Options....
5. Click the "Edit..." button at the bottom right
6. Click the "Open Directory Utility..." button.

8. Enter an administrator account name and password, then click OK.
9. Choose Disable Root User from the Edit menu.

i previously had 21.97 Gb music, over 6 Gb photos, about 1Gb of apps, and minute amount of audio
now i have no music, 5.4 Gb photos and similar (0.8Gb) for apps and audio. i have deleted heaps of photos and unused apps to try to make space but obviosly this is a much bigger problem. I also created a smaller music folder on itunes to sync to but at present no music is selected for syncing due to the lack of available space.
i have 15Gb icloud account now also which is about half full.
Ive done a little research and heard similar tales but with much smaller other totals than this. Can you help?

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

You will get them on IE. I suggest you also contact Google support, as this is also a problem on their end. I too have everything set to Google on both Firefox, Opera, IE, and Chrome and the only one not getting the annoying banners is surprising Google Chrome.

You have 2 solutions:
1 - You can use 2 differents icloud account
2 - You use the same account but you don't sync yours contacts.
You configure that in Settings > icloud
You activate or desactivate what you want.

That isn't due to not having a phone number on her iPad. You can use FaceTime with any iPad using an email address as the "phone number". And if her iPad isn't a first generation iPad, if she uses the same Apple ID for FaceTime on both her iPhone and iPad, her iPhone number can be used as well (see iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage).

According to your descriptioin, I don't think this is system problem, it should be Intel driver problem. It would be contact Intel to confirm this issue whether this is their driver problem.

"Other" login identity. How do I get rid of it?

I am using an iMac desktop running Lion 10.7.5. I had a problem last night. When I tried to login, I typed in my password. It seemed like it was going through its normal routine but it took me back to the gray screen where you type in your password. I tried typing in my password again and again, but it never worked. It always went back to the gray screen where you type in your password. I tried restarting, it didn't work. I tried running the disk utility, it didn't work. I went online with my Macbook Pro and found the following article:

Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, (part of step 6). That didn't work, but when I restarted the machine after trying to "Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs", I now had two options to login, my regular identity and a new one called "Other". Eventually, I tried reinstalling Lion. That DID work, but now when I start the machine I still have the two indentities at the login screen. How can I get rid of the identity labled "Other"? I tried going to "Users and Accounts" to delete it in the "normal" way, but that didn't work, the "Other" account is not listed in the Users and Accounts preferences window. The "Other" identity IS still there when I go to login. How do I get rid of this? Thanks!

OK, so root is disabled from login, but "Other" still appears.
Well, you could try biovizier's idea, but … both "OTHERUSER" and "SHOWOTHERUSERS_MANAGED" are set to true in my "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow.plist", and I don't see the "Other" user in my login pane.
Here's what worked for someone a while back, in 10.3 days I think.
First, let's just take a backup of your NetInfo database. Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
cd /var/db/netinfo
cp -p local.nidb local.nidb.origAfter the first return you will be prompted for your password. This is not echoed for security reasons: just type it and press return.
Then you can quit Terminal, and open NetInfo Manager. Be careful!
In Netinfo Manager, authenticate and navigate to /users/root.
Delete the generateduid (if there is one) and authentication_authority fields (the whole line, not just the values—select the line and click "Delete").
Select the "passwd" line and edit its value (double-click the value to do this) to a single *.
Close the window and accept the changes when prompted.
Now quit NetInfo Manager, and start Directory Access (in /Applications/Utilities). Under the Services tab, is "NetInfo" enabled? If it is, turn it off (you will need to authenticate).
As I say, this worked under 10.3, but may no longer be relevant.

When I enter correct user name (John Doe or johndoe) and password for my account on Mavericks computer, the connection fails (whether I connected to Mavericks computer or not), and I get the following:
     There was a problem connecting to the server "MacBookPro". The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name and try again.
If I change to the proper share name John Doe and use the correct password, I still am not connected and I get the same failure message and am asked to use the correct share name again. If I cancel message, the connection message goes away for a while whether I am actually connected to old computer or not. It will then come back on the workspace I am currently using on my new macbook. When I am downloading files using terminal, the connect request comes up constantly if I continue canceling the message which is really irritating. How do I get rid of this constantly recurring request to connect???
