"Other" in a new ipod (and new library)

Saw other discussions about the "Other" yellow in the ipod capacity bar, but this one seems to be different.
Had this issue with a 120gb ipod classic (would not sync, sayingn it is 5-6 gb over capacity).
(1) restoring ipod didn't solve it.
(2) I moved all the mp3s and video to a new location, new library was created - AND I bought a new [in a sealed box] ipod (160gb) - and the same issue remains: it cannot sync 110gb library saying it is 4gb over, and the yellow "Other" has grown to 36 (thirty-six) gb.
What could that be and how to solve it?
Note: In the library, there are only mps/m4a and mp4/m4v

And every time, such incomplete syncing ends by itunes suddenly closing - it does not hang, but just dissapears from the screen.

  • I restored my ipod and i now have 35.66GB of other data on my ipod and it only sinked my music that i bought on itunes how do i fix this?

I restored my ipod and i now have 35.66GB of other data on my ipod and it only sinked my music that i bought on itunes how do i fix this? i have an ipod 5 with ios 7.1.2. ive tried restarting my computer restarting my ipod and restoring it. i also tried to delete apps nothing works.

This happened to me with the same device. I wouldn't worry about having it just say other as that is just information, if you really need to know what is using the most of your device's storage to to Settings > General > Usage > Manage Storage and that will tell you what apps are using in terms of your storage. Besides that, "other" is just iTunes knowing that there is information, how much there is, just not what it is. So syncing your device a few times and letting it stay plugged in should allow iTunes to recognize what information is on your iPod. Hope I could help!

  • Stolen Ipods and transfering library onto new one

My ipod 30gb was stolen, I still have the library on my pc, I have bought the same model, before I instal it is there some way I can save the 250+ albums in my old library so that they can be transfered onto my new ipod.
    Thanks
    Mark

Sorry to hear about your iPod being stolen. That's
    awful.
Just hook up the new iPod and your iTunes library
    will sync to it.
There's nothing special you need to do.
Hi! I have a similar issue with a new ipod and an old library, but mu ipod is not automatically updating. Even when I click the "update Tiffany's ipod" option from itunes...it just doesn't update! My ipod remains totally empty even theough I'm looking at my library on the computer screen.

  • How do I set up my second Ipod and itunes library (same computer)?

I recently filled up my first Ipod, and want to load my second Ipod's software on the same computer without causing interference and problems with my first ipod and library. How do I load my second ipod's software and create a library just for it, without the libraries becoming confused, or not recognizing ipods, or double copying songs?

  • What is the "other" section on my ipod and how do i remove it

hi, im not the most ipod literate user in the world, but i have heaps of storage space being used in the section other. what is in there and how do i take it off?

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
"Other" is the measure of used space on the iPod not taken up by Audio, Video & Photos. This includes the iPod's library and artwork plus any files you may have copied to your iPod in disk mode. The overhead for the library & artwork data is typically 1-2% of the size of the media, e.g. for 100Gb of Audio & Video expect to have around 1.5Gb of "Other". This information is needed for the iPod's operation and cannot be removed.
If you have significantly larger amounts of "Other", not related to files you've intentionally placed on the iPod, then these are probably disconnected copies of your media files or iPod libraries left over from failed sync operations. The only way to recover the space is to do a full restore.

  • 7.0.2 crashes when click between iPod and music library

I just upgraded to 7.0.2. iTunes recognizes my iPod and will even play the music, but if I click on the music library after having clicked on anything in my connected iPod, iTunes quits without even an error message. I just wiped my 1.6 Ghz PowerPC G5 and reinstalled 10.4, then upgraded to iTunes 7.0.2. I have a 5G iPod video. 7.0.1 works just fine with my iPod on my iBook.
    Help!
    Thanks.
    1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4)

I think it's fixed. I followed the instructions on this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=717600&tstart=0
and reinstalled 7.0. First I put iTunesX.pkg and iTunes 7.0.2 in the trash, then I ran the installer. iTunes still behaved badly until I emptied the trash. Now iTunes and my iPod play nicely together unless I click on the iPod while it's still loading, in which case iTunes crashes again.

  • Replacing lost iPod and restoring library

I just replaced my lost iPod Touch with a new one. How do aI go about loading my existing library on the new device when I don't have the old one to transfer from?

    Maybe here:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
Restore the new iPod from the backup of your old iPod. See:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore via iTunes all your synced media has to be in the iTunes library since the backup does not include synced media. Restoring from the iCloud backup will also restore iTunes purchases.

  • Separate iPod and Music Library

I would be grateful if someone could advise me on the following:
    1. I have my music library on iTunes and I want to add further CDs but to a separate library, so the two do not merge. How do I do this?
    2. I wish to use this separate library to populate a different iPod to the one I normally use. Can I do this and if so how?
    3. I want to digitise casettes and vinyl records and add these to the separate music library for later use on the new iPod. What software do I need? How do I attach the record player/casette player to my iMac and how do I get the files into iTunes?
I am grateful for any help and advice. Thanks in advance.

First: These are non-expert suggestions to trigger your thinking and possible steps to try.
    Regarding #1:
    a. Select not to share your account's music files.
    b. Create a new user account which, I believe, starts a new music file and an empty iTunes library. Also make this account's music "non-sharing". Add music to the new account iTunes library.
Regarding #2: If suggestions in #1 work then maybe a second iPod would work as well, using the "new account".
Regarding #3: I've used an old iMac running Roxio's Toast with Spin Doctor.
Use a belt driven, not direct drive, turntable, a cheap pre-amp to increase turntable's output, an iMic USB sound connector rather than the mike jack for sound imput, good cables and LOT'S of time.
Unlike inputing CD's, vinyl & tapes require 40 minutes of recording time for 40 minutes of playing time. That does NOT include set-up, cleaning the vinyl, etc., nor cleaning the "noise, pops, sound levels, etc" for each track.
Research MacWorld, MacAddict, MacHome Journal archives for various articles they've published on this subject.
I just purchased a book: "MacToys-12 Cool Projects for Home, Office and Entertainment" by John Rizzo & Scott Knaster, Wiley Publishing
    WWW.wiley.com/compbooks/extremetech
Their section on putting LPs onto an iPod might be what you want.
Good luck AND BACKUP each raw file before you start cleaning it up. Inputing your vinyl takes too long to risk not doing that FIRST, before doing anything else.

  • IPod and iTunes Library

I have all of my music on my iPod. I have all of my music set up to be on an external hard drive that only works with a Mac which mine is currently out of commission. I used a trial software to put the music all onto my iPod thru a PC. Now I have added some new music to my library. If I connect my iPod will it delete all of the music on there currently and replace it with the new music or will it keep all of whats currently on there and just add to it? I haven't tried it yet because I will have hurt feelings if it replaces everything. Can I even add music to the iPod or should I just wait until I get my Mac up and running again?

You just need to change the iPod from auto sync to manual sync. When you first plug it into the new machine, you will get a pop up warning you that your iPod is synced to another library and do you want to sync it to this library instead or transfer purchases. Click CANCEL.
After a moment it will look like it is syncing the iPod but isn't doing anything other than reading it. Now you can go to the iPod in iTunes and change it to manual mode by clicking on the check box in front of "manually Manage music and videos" when you are in the main Summary page for the iPod.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Checking consistancy between iPod and iTunes library

Is there a way to tell which files are missing from an iPod that are in the iTunes library? My library on my computer says 2948, and for my iPod it says 2947. I was hoping maybe there was some program that would tell you rather than having to go through every file and check. Thanks.

I don't think there is any programs like this. You can search Google. To make sure you are getting all of your songs from iTunes onto your iPod follow these instructions:
    1. Go to all of your songs(Library)
    2. Click on your first song on the list and press and hold Shift
    3. Go to the last song on the list. Click on it and let go of Shift.
    4. Then all of your songs are highlighted. Right click on any song and click on "Uncheck Selection". Now all of your songs are unchecked.
    5. Now right click again on any song and click on "Check Selection". Now every single song is checked.
    6. Now update your iPod again and everything from your iTunes library should transfer correctly onto your iPod.
I have tried this solution and it has worked for me. I personaly created these instructions so I helped you out

  • Music plays on iPad but not iPod and iTunes library

I have recently purchased music off of iTunes and some of the songs won't play on my iPod or in my iTunes library but they will play on my iPad. I am not sure how to fix this. I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes and deauthorized and reauthorized my computer, but nothing so far has helped. Has anyone had this problem and knows how to fix it?

Actually, now they won't play on my iPad either.

  • IPod and iTunes library skip songs bought from iTunes

I just bought the song "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes and a few other songs from itunes. All my other songs play just fine, but Wanted won't. Everytime I go to play it in my itunes library it says: "This computer is not authorized to play 'Wanted'. Would you like to authorize it?" so I type my username and password and hit the "authorize" button, and it says: "This computer is authorized" so I go to play it again and the same thing happens all over again. Then when I go to play it on my iPod, it skips over it and won't play. Does anyone know what to do? It annoys me that a song a PAYED for won't work.

Remove the downloaded purchase and then redownload it at no cost via iCloud. This has fixed this authorization issue for a number of users.

  • IPOD  and iTunes Library have different amount of used space

My iPod mini has 1.86 GB used while my library only has 864 MB used. How can I identify the discrepancy?

Steve, it would be best to restore your iPod with the latest iPod Updater, then sync with iTunes. This should fix the problem.
