"Other" in capacity list?

So I'm syncing my new iPhone tonight, loading up some movies and whatnot, and I notice in the capacity list (where it tells you how much storage you're devoting to music, video, photos, apps, etc.) that my "Other" category is taking up more than 4 gigs on my 16 gig phone.
What's stored under this category? Surely the OS isn't taking up 4 gigs of space. Is there any way to reclaim of any that enormous block of memory for my own use?

If you have gotten all your files from the App Store, and all your music and videos through iTunes, how can you find out what is corrupted? I've done the restore, set up as new iphone, and even had them give me a completely new phone at an Apple Store...(BTW, they seemed to be genuinely suprised at the Apple Store when I presented them with the problem, even having a pow-wow with about 5 people...)
I'm still having the problem of randomly growing "other"...I've deleted my history, deleted the cache, deleted the third thing (my phone is in restore right now, and I can't remember what that is)... I only have three past days of calendar events which sync, and while I do have quite a few appointments, I haven't added anymore since the last time I sync'd...
There has to be a bug in the iOS 4, and since my friends who have 3GS phones or an iPhone 4 aren't having this problem, the conspiracy theorist in me is saying that they put it in intentionally to force people to get rid of their 3G phones... I'm normally not paranoid like that, but that is my only conclusion that I can draw...
Thanks...

To fix this you need to restore your phone: first try restoring from backup. Follow this by syncing your iTunes content back to your phone. That should fix things. If not, you will have to restore as a new device,

  • How can I eliminate "others" in capacity

Hello, Can someone help in giving the proper steps to erase "others" in capacity for my iPhone 5? I have tried everything, from erasing text message, photos, music, videos, among other, but "others" remains. Certainly need help!

A simple search of the forums would have revealed how to do this as the question is asked and answered daily.
Restore the device from backup, if Other is still larger than 1-2GB, restore as new.  It is not possible to elliminate Other.

  • How do you access folders/files in other users Finder list?

How do you access folders in other users finder list, once you have shared the folder or file

You should be able to open and view the contents of any directories you have access permissions to using FInder, by navigating the directory tree to the folders in question and opening them as you would your own folders. If you know the full path-name of the directory, you can enter it into the Finder navigator opened by Apple-Shift-G; the dialog that pops up uses the same directory listing method as all unix systems, and has tab completion for ease of use. In general, all users have their home directories in /Users/, or you can simply use ~/../<name> to go to the home folder of a user via the parent (..) directory of your home (~) directory. If you are experiencing bugs or errors with this, as opposed to simply not knowing how to do this, please post any details of your experience so that others can help troubleshoot your problems.

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

Your iMac does have wireless capability. It does need, however, some wireless network in order to connect to the Internet. It sounds like there are several networks in your area, including one Belkin router that is not encrypted and several other networks that are. I presume that you would know if the Belkin one is yours, and you would have mentioned it. Do not use someone else's network without their permission. In some jurisdictions it is illegal, in others it is merely foolish.
It is impossible to know what Xfinity has given you. Possibly it is only a cable modem, or perhaps it has a router built in. Call them and ask them. If it has a router built in, get them to help you set it up. Note that some tech support people for Internet service providers will resist working with Macs. Be persistent, it is not that different.
If they did not provide a router, you will need to get one. Apple makes the AirPort Extreme base station, the AirPort Express base station and the Time Capsule. Other companies have their own. Be sure you get one that is up to date and has 802.11n capabilities (for the highest speed) and go on from there.
    Best of luck.

  • Available Capacity Listed Wrong

so my new 8GB nano is working out great, after finally getting it to work with my computers front usb 1.1 ports - it wouldn't work with my faster usb 2.0 card in the back of my computer - i've run into another problem. although this one isn't a big deal at all, i'm still annoyed by it. on the about screen of my nano it lists the capacity as 7.4 GB, and then it says 7.2 GB is available, this isn't right since i have over 6 GB of songs on it that play. and it doesn't ever change after being synced to itunes, i have itunes set to sync certain playlists automatically, so i am not manually managing my library. i don't want to restore my nano, so if anyone has a solution that'd be nice to hear.

the usb 1.1 connection makes it a pain to put over 6 GB of songs on it when i just got the ipod on friday.

  • "other" in capacity bar

i had a resolve to this same issue not long ago, however, didn't see the exact resolve steps...to rid of the 'other' in the capacity bar when iphone is connected, do you click restore? if so, does it back up all of the pictures on the camera that have been taken including video?

The "other" section is kind of dynamic and weird I have noticed. I recently updated to iTunes7 and then synced my 80GB iPod to it putting the whole library on it, a BUNCH of photos, a few videos and that is about it. When done it listed about 1GB of other, which wasn't real, since I don't have artwork or anything in disk mode.
But then after playing it for a day or two and resyncing it a few times, the other has now dropped to a couple hundred megabytes. So perhaps a lot of cache and temp files get stashed here during normal use and many of us notice is the FIRST time we sync a huge amount of data to the iPod because a HUGE amount of cache and temp files are written which then later shrink.
    Or so my theory goes,
    Patrick

  • HT2736 I do not understand why the simplest of tasks do not appear next to each other in a list of links. You would think tht "Reedem" an item would be right next to "Gift" an item, burt for some reason that just does not make sense to Apple.

I never did find the "Gift Certificate" link even thoug support said where it "should" be, and "No" Nowhere near where you would reedem them.

Seems like it should automatically become an elongated column to fit the viewing area with just less words per line. PLEASE fix this so I can enjoy reading with larger type size to accomodate my eyesight.
Double tap the column to make it size to fit. It will make it fit the width but not make the font larger by putting less word on a line.
Hard to make corrections as it is hit or miss to get in between letters in a word.
Tap and hold to get the magnifying glass or better still get the iPad User Guide which is free in iBooks - it has pictures and will save me having to type so many words to try and answer your questions
Is there no way to scroll up or down deleting as you go...so far all I can do is delete one word/line at a time, ie in forwarding e-mail and trying to get rid of the long list of other people's contacts.
Yes, I'm replying to this on my iPad - again, much better described in the User Guide.
    Thank you
You're welcome. But please do have a look at the iPad User Guide - it will make things clearer and you may even find something new that you didn't already know.

  • Why is "other" for capacity so large?

I was just plugging in my ipad to sync it, I didn't do anything different then what I normally would. It had some apps that I had deleted from my ipad and was trying to put them back on so I unchecked them to make sure it didn't. Randomly it decided to make my "other" capacity go up to 6.5 GB. It's never been that high. It told me I didn't have enough room on my ipad for some of my stuff after it did that. Someone had said on a website to check and uncheck the manually manage music and it worked until I went to plug it back in a my "other" jumped right back up and now that trick isn't working anymore. Why is this happening? I can't figure out what to do and I don't want to restore it.

  • How is Reqmts calculated in CM01( capacity Planning: Detailed Capacity List.

I believe Reqmts is the difference between the 'To be confirmed' and 'confirmed hours'.
If let suppose standard hours for a part to be manufacture is 100hrs and we have already work 52 hrs off 100hrs then if i go and look up this order in CM01 then the Reqmts should say 48hr (100-52).
But when I am going to CM01 it still saying 100 hours which is not correct. Can some one help me solve this issue

    Hi Pankaj,
Once confirmation is done, hours must be deducted and it should show the remaining hours in CM01 based on the below settings in work center/resource in Capacity tab.
Control: Calc. of Remaining Req./Duration After Confirmation
Controls how, after partial confirmations the
    Remaining capacity requirement and
Remaining duration in a rescheduling is calculated.
    The following are possible:
Formula-Related: The remaining requirement / remaining duration of a
partially confirmed operation is determined when the formula defined in the work
center is evaluated. It is the remaining quantity and not the operation quantity
that is taken into account after the confirmation.
Completely for Partial Confirmation: The remaining requirement /
remaining duration is reduced completely when there is a partial
         confirmation.
Completely for Final Confirmation: The remaining requirement /
remaining duration is reduced completely when there is a final confirmation.
There is no adjustment through partial confirmations.
Proportional to Service: The remaining requirement / remaining
duration of a partially-confirmed operation is reduced proportional to the
service that is assigned to the relevant capacity segment in the work center in
         your record type group.
    Dependencies
When there is a final confirmation the remaining capacity requirement of the
    operation is always completely reduced.
    Please check your settings accordingly.
    Thanks.

  • Call an other dynpro after list-process. with a button in the functionmenu

    Hi expert-forum-members
in my report I start a DynPro after the starting-point "start-of-selection":
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    CALL SCREEN 100.
In the screen 100, I want to show a simple list like that:
    module pbo_0100 output.
      SET PF-STATUS 'SCREEN_100'.
LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING AND RETURN TO SCREEN 0.
      PERFORM lief_lfa1.
      PERFORM kunden_kna1.
      LEAVE SCREEN.
    endmodule.
In the "PF-STATUS" I defined a button which should call another dynpro with a ALV-List. But when I am debugging the "list-processing" screen I could not catch any sy-ucomm event?!?
If I comment the two commands ("LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING AND RETURN TO SCREEN 0.","LEAVE SCREEN.  LEAVE SCREEN.") out, then the buttonfunction is correct.
So how can I use a button by using the "LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING " command?
    Regards,
    Steffen

    Hi Steffen,
      The logic:
LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING AND RETURN TO SCREEN 0.
      PERFORM lief_lfa1.
      PERFORM kunden_kna1.
      LEAVE SCREEN.
shold be inside a PAI module an not PBO module.
    pai.
    module user_command_0100.
    in program:
    module user_comman_0100.
    case sy-ucomm.
    when '<Fcode for the button>'.
LEAVE TO LIST-PROCESSING AND RETURN TO SCREEN 0.
      PERFORM lief_lfa1.
      PERFORM kunden_kna1.
      LEAVE SCREEN.
    endcase.
    endmodule.
