Other language on page

Only in Firefox am I receiving text and pages in some other language (Chinese or Indian or something else). If I use Internet Explorer, I do not have this problem.
Also, I have a homepage screen for Firefox that has "2010 Conduit" as the copyright. I do not wish to have this at all! Please help?

See:

  • Spell checking in other languages using Pages for iPad

Does anybody know how to spell check a document in a language other than the primary language? For example the iPad is using English but I want to write a letter in German.
This was simple to do using Pages on the Mac. So far I'm stumped.

Did you actually try this with Pages?  In the past this app had a bug where switching the keyboard did not work, you had to switch the OS language, as was stated earlier in this discussion.  If that is now fixed, that is good to hear.

  • Man pages in other languages

    Hi,
Is it possible to install man pages in other languages (i.e. Spanish)? Bash shell seems to be working in Spanish but not man pages. I have checked and it only comes with some languages (Russian, German, etc.) Could it be possible to install them from any source?
    Thanks in advance

Open Dictionary.app in the Applications folder and go to its Preferences.  There you will see what Apple provides and you can check the boxes to activate it.  If you want something more, you will have to find it on the internet and install it.

  • Pages, other languages, spell check

I have Pages 08 and it serves me well but recently I have needed to use other languages and check spelling. Is there a language pack? Do I have to buy the new version? Other software? Anyone know? I'll bet someone does.
I have tried changing the language in Inspector and in system preferences but it doesn't seem to take effect. Meanwhile Mail is doing spell checks from what I guess  is the source to do this.

Language is an attribute of the text (like bold or color etc) so you have to select the text and apply a language to it from the Inspector.
Not all languages have dictionaries and not all the dictionaries are as comprehensive as the English versions.
You can get extra dictionaries from OpenOffice and add them to your system and there are also 3rd party dictionaries available.

  • Text Messaging in Japanese (or other language with non-Roman script)

Is it possible to send/receive text messages written in non-Roman characters with Verizon?
More specifically, I'm using a Droid 2 with Verizon, and I'm trying to text a friend in Japanese.  She has an iPhone (AT&T), and is physically in the U.S. (so I'm not asking about international text messaging).  I've already installed apps on my Droid (e.g. OpenWNN, or Simeji) to input Japanese, which work fine in and of themselves, and the Droid of course displays Japanese text or other languages just fine on the Browser or in E-mails.
However, I'm having lots of trouble with Text Messaging.  When I send a message containing Japanese text (typed in perfectly fine with OpenWNN or whatever), she either never gets the message, or the text comes out unreadable (as ???????).  Messages with a mix of Roman and non-Roman characters typically show the Roman characters ok, but the non-Roman ones (i.e. Japanese) are garbled.  If she sends me a message containing any non-Roman characters, I generally don't get the message at all (i.e. not even garbled-- just no message at all).   This deficiency seems to be specific to Text Messaging, as far as I can tell.  I can send and receive e-mails containing Japanese just fine, read foreign language web pages, and type in Japanese into search boxes on those web pages and so on with the Droid.  However, sending an e-mail message to (myphone#)@vtext.com, predictably, results in any Japanese text being garbled, though Roman characters come through just fine.
Is this perhaps something specific to Verizon's network?  Or is text messaging in non-Roman scripts just inherently impossible?  My friend says she knows others who can successfully text in non-Roman scripts (e.g. Korean Hangul, Japanese Kana or Kanji), and claims some of these folks are Verizon customers too.  A search on droidforums.com yielded someone who supposedly could text in Korean within Verizon.  So, I'm hoping this is possible, and I'm just missing something. However, this is perhaps all secondhand information and rumor.
(Incidentally, I know for certain that messaging with non-Roman scripts is possible in general.  During my last vacation in Japan, I rented a phone there, and could send messages in English or Japanese scripts.  However, I believe the phones there actually have their own e-mail addresses, and so the service there is more like regular e-mail-- my understanding is that text messaging as we know it in the U.S. is a distinct technology, though I could well be wrong.)
So, to restate my question: is it possible to text message with non-Roman scripts with Verizon?  Has anyone out there done this successfully-- if so what did you do, or what app did you use?  Or is it in fact impossible? (e.g. Maybe text messaging here only uses 7 or 8 bits, instead of 14 or 16 needed to encode all the various Asian, European, and other scripts?)
    Thanks for any help available.

I'm trying to figure this out as well, but my understanding on the matter is that Verizon's CDMA network uses unicode which will display, roman characters, loa, thai, and serveral other languages, but not hirigana, kanji, katakana, or simplified or traditional chinese.  The Romaji should work however.  It would be nice to hear some input from a Verizon rep on the subject, because like you my info is all second hand.
If my understanding is correct, the simple answer is no, it's not possible.

  • Setting default language in Pages '09

Is there a way of setting the default language in Pages '09?
Each time I want to begin a new document that is not from my templates, I have to change the language to Australian English. With MS Word it was not a problem to change the default language.
I read in another post to change the settings in the international pane of the system preferences. My iMac no longer has that option.
    Thanks for your assistance.

I read in another post to change the settings in the international pane of the system preferences. My iMac no longer has that option.
10.6 just changed the name from "international" to "language & text". Go to system prefs/language & text/languages and move Australian English to the top of the list. Also in system prefs/language & text/text/spelling set it to Austrialian English.

  • Spell check in other languages

I have Pages '06 in enlgish, but I write documents in english and in spanish, how can I spell check my documents in spanish?
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iWork '06

    Hello FiGu
    Welcome to the discussions.
This is a very frequently asked question, it's worth doing a search on these discussions before posting. You might get your answer more quickly.
Anyway the language used for spell checking any particular paragraph is controlled by the Language setting for it. You can adjust this in the More section of the Text Inspector.
If you start a new document based upon one of the built-in templates, this language setting will default to the one that you have top of your list in the Language section of International System Preferences.
The language of a paragraph in Pages is associated with the paragraph style. You might find it helpful to create a couple of templates with the language settings adjusted appropriately.
I've never tried but you might be able to do this quickly by setting the system language, opening Pages so that it is working in say Spanish, open up some of the pre-defined templates and saving them as your own template. This may retain the language setting.
Just in case you didn't know, when you change the language preferences and restart Pages, the menus will change to the language at the top of the list and the content of the built-in templates changes. This is provided the language at the top of the list is supported by Pages, if not it will go down the preferences until it finds one it does support.
Also, again in case you didn't know, you can change the input language regardless of the mode your application is in. This makes it quicker to type accented characters. This is controlled by the Input Menu portion of International System Preferences. It's best to get the icon shown in your menu bar so that you can toggle between input languages easily.
    I hope that helps

  • Spelling correction in other languages

    Hi!
I have iWork installed in portuguese, but I wrote a document in english. However something is wrong with the grammar check. I tried: Inspector > Text Inspector > More > Language, and set it to english. But the red underscores remained there in the text. Even for words that I know that are right in english! I thought that maybe it was just until I did "command+:" but it started correcting the document as if it was in portuguese. Am I doing something wrong? Is it supposed to be like that?
When I worked with Microsoft Office for windows, I had to install a package for other languages, is it the same way for Pages? If yes, where can I find that package?
    Thanks in advance!
    Tirwit

Yes, of course. You select the part you want to spellcheck and make sure you have the right language selected in the Inspector. This is for text you've already have written.
In new document you can before you change language (if you are disciplined enough) when writing select the new language in the Inspector then write.

  • IE7 settings in other languages than english

    Hi all,
I have a question concerning the IE7 settings for CRM (PCUI, WebUI):
From the SAP support we received the recommended settings in english. We have several users in different countries and their Internet Explorers are in in french or hungaria or whatever.
Now the questions is: are there documents with the IE7 settings in other languages than english? Or do the users have to compare the english settings with their version of the IE?
What is your experience with this?
    Thanks for your help!
    Greetings

By typing in a language other than English. You can change the keyboard to more suitable forms for many languages.
    "Add international keyboards:
1 Choose General > Keyboard > International Keyboards.
The number of active keyboards appears before the right arrow.
2 Tap “Add New Keyboard…,” then choose a keyboard.
You can add as many keyboards as you want. To learn about using international keyboards, see Appendix A, “International Keyboards,” on page 248.
Edit your keyboard list: Choose General > Keyboard > International Keyboards,"
