Other party can't head me speak; Apple won't fix. What to do?

A few weeks ago my IPhone 4 started showing problems during phone conversations. People can't hear me speak, but I can hear them without problems. It doesn't matter if I'm using the internal microphone ornament Bluetooth headset. Rebooting/restoring/reinstalling doesn't help.
On these forums I noticed this was a common problem and hardware related, so I sent the phone back to Apple (UK). They responded with the claim that a. it would cost more to fix than to buy a new one and b. they won't fix because they found out the phone had "accidental damage".
That last part is true: earlier this year I dropped the phone, resulting in a broken glass. However, that has been repaired and the current problem manifested itself months later.
Can these problems be related and can this be a reason for Apple to say "won't fix"?

Absolutely. Further, if anyone other than Apple replaced your broken glass, you voided your warranty anyway.

How come Apple won't fix what they broke?

It has been a while back but I sent my iPod video 60gb back to apple to get it fixed under its warranty. My iPod could not be repaired so they replaced it. Now it is broken and I think it's a logic board issue. Apple will not fix it because the warranty is expired. Apple wants to charge an arm and a leg to repair it instead of fixing THEIR mistake. This infuriates me. I even consider sending all of my Apple products back demanding a refund. They have terrible customer service and I would never recommend another apple product. Any suggestions because I'm sure they won't reply to this message?

This is an annoying problem for many people. Most likely your dock connector (on the bottom where you plug in your phone) is dirty or screwed up and is probably just coincidence that it happened after you updated. Some people have had success cleaning the port with a dry clean tooth brush. There is a long discussion going on at the thread I linked below. Good luck...

Other Party Can See Pictures In Chat

Hi, I was wondering if somebody could help me. When chatting I receive the pictures the other party is sending but they can't see mine. I was wondering if there was anyway to fix this?

Hi,
There are several ways to Send Pics to a Buddy.
1) Dragging said Pic as a File to the Buddy List and dropping it in their Name.
This does not require any sort of Chat to be open and is worth checking that they can receive this way. (it proves the basic concept works)
2) Probably the most common is to drag the Pic to the Text entry Field and let go. Click once to "Un-highlight" it (they sometimes retains that blue edge glow to say they are highlighted)
Add Text if needed.
Press Enter to Send.
These should appear in the Chat itself and are Scalable by dragging the chat Window bigger.
(They can be dragged to other apps or the Desktop for "Storage")
3) During a Video Chat with someone then you can drag files to Share ove the Chat window.
It divides into two halfs offering to Send or to Share. (Sharing a pic this way sends it as the Video Feed from your end. Depending on which version of iChat, what Processor you have will impact on what you see at your end - with most Intels it will be a bit like a Group Video chat with you sliding to one side, your Buddy staying On view and the Share having the majority of the window)
Sending works like the other two in that in some cases they will need to Accept.
Notes to help.
In iChat up to iChat 6 the default Login port for AIM logins was 5190 using the TCP Protocol.
File Sending is on the Same Port but UDP protocol.
This change is what causes the little grey message in iChat that says the Chat has become a Direct Chat.
(It may be at the top or between IMs once the chat is started)
Now this port does not need to be open for Outgoing stuff (so you buddy may be ending with it closed)
It does need to be open for Incoming stuff, hence he cannot accept if it is closed.
Most likely it is his router.
More so if he changed the default Login port to 443 (This is below a threshold on most routers where the ports are open).
If his router has it he should enable UPnP.
If he is still login in on port 5190 for any AIM login then it will pay to change those to port 443 as there are some routers that don't like this "Dual Use" of port 5190 even when doing UPnP.

IPhone 5 - other party can't hear me clearly

I received my iphone 5 and immediately had the complaints about poor voice/sound quality, on the end of the receiver of my calls. Same when LTE on/off. Same whether I call them or they call me. The complaint is that my voice sounds muffled, as if I was holding the phone to my shoulder. When I select speaker phone I am instantly clear to the other person. Same if I use the included earpiece. Haven't tried bluetooth earpiece but considering it.
First step tp resolve was trip to Apple store. Replaced phone. Phone #2 did same thing. Called apple support, they couldn't understand me, said they wanted to help me with my problem but they couldn't hear what I was saying. Exactly. Second trip to Apple store, tech rep ("Genius?") couldn't replicate issue, calls to test were made in very noisy environment. Muffled sounds from my phone seem worst when calling from very quiet environment. Third trip to Apple store today, got replacement phone (phone # 3!). Same issue, no better quality.
Anyone else have this issue? Help! Paid quite a bit for 32GB black ATT phone, shame to have such poor quality.

Possible fix........
Yesterday I updated the OS to the latest release. Then right after that I called AT&T and they reset my sim card. Or something like that. They did some sort of reset.
I then got in my car and drove around to test the phone. Because that is when the problem is worse. FINALLY they claim to be able to hear me clearly!!!!
I think it was the combination of both the OS update and the sim card reset that fixed it. Hopefully..... It has only been one day but so far so good. I'll update this post if things change.
Try this and let us know if this works for you.

IPhone 4 - other party can't hear me during calls?

Just the other day I was on the phone with one of my friends, when all of a sudden she said she couldn't hear me anymore. I wasn't too worried, but after I called about 4-5 other people to test this, I became slightly concerned. The next step I took was to take a voice memo- it worked fine, so I don't think the mic is the issue. I updated to iOS 6.1 (I believe?) last night after all of this, and it appeared to work. However, after being on the phone for some time the other person could not hear me. I have tried just about everything.. I tried simple remedies like playing/stopping music and restarting my phone (which worked for 5 minutes in a call), unplugging/plugging in headphones.. neither have worked. I also tried turning my phone off for the night (last night) and in the morning it appeared to work, but alas, it's no longer working. I am at my absolute wits end and I haven't a clue what to do to make this work. I'd really only like to factory reset my phone as a last resort. Are there any things anyone has tried that have worked? Is this a software or a hardware issue? Can I have this repaired by Apple? Any help would be great.

Unfortunately the previous IOS wont be restored just your data. We´ll have to wait for the new IOS 6.1.1 which is currently being tested. Here I really verified the problem has been caused after the upgrade and It´s really a software issue because if when I answer the call I scream the first HELLOOO then the mic sensibility will be changed for the rest of the talk, so the mic or hardware is ok.
Many 4S owners are complaining not just about this specific problem but others related to call drops. We´ve got to wait

Probably the first thing you want to do is close face time, then doulbe tap the home button to see the task bar... Touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, then close them all off by touching the minus sign. Then reboot the pad by holding the sleep and home buttons until the apple logo appears. Ignore the red slider.
Sometimes this reset fixes bugs.
Then, confirm your mike is working. Open any app that records things, and see if it hears you. There have been some discussions about broken mikes.
Then try it again.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Try and force your iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.

ICal invites are not received by some people (I know why, but Apple won't fix it)

I switched to icloud a while back and have the maddening problem of SOME people not receiving invites, and have discovered what causes it (at least in my case):
If the user you are sending to has an itunes (or apple id) account with that email as the login (and that email is NOT an icloud email) they will never receive the iCal invite! Instead it gets routed to their (non setup) icloud account. If they start using icloud for their calendars with this same external email address as login, they will receive them there (directly on their calendar if it is setup). Apple refuses to forward it to their real email address, the one we are sending it to. I have reported it to Apple several times but they are not inclined to fix it, probably because they want to force external users to use icloud. This is mega frustrating. Many of my friends do not receive invites, forcing me to use Google calendar for events with those friends. I prefer the general interface and look of icloud/ical invites, but I need to be able to actually invite people!

Is all the above true? For me, the above scenario results in no email being received at the address I sent it to (number 4), it gets routed/lost in icloud if that is their Apple ID login.
Like I said, I do not have the issue you have, all my invites are received regardless of the email provider and user ID's I just send to the correct address and that's it. Frankly if what you said was common the service would be useless, but it works for millions. The problem is at your end, not everybody's.
The login name is just a text string to iCloud, not an address.

WALKMAN APP CAN'T PLAY DOVETAILED TRACKS PROPERLY, WON'T FIX

The Walkman music playing app is unable to properly play music that doesn't pause between tracks. It inserts an obligatory hiccup between tracks that were recorded/mastered/released to dovetail together for a continuous musical experience.For those of us who listen to finer music, this is a colossal fail on the part of Sony. Do a Reset and try again - [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!
