Other section taking over 7 gb on iPhone 4s

When I plugged in my phone to my new laptop I was shocked to see that "others" is taking up 7.4 gb of th 13 gb I have avaliable. I have tried everything that has already been suggested (restore, sync, delete apps etc.) but it simply made the category increase. Can someone please help me because it is taking over half of what I have to use with.

If I restore it as new do I have to go in my carrier's store to get it activated and all that?

    CDMA cannot be unlocked.
Only GSM devices can be unlocked.
If this is a Verizon iPhone, it can be unlocked (may already be unlocked) for GSM carriers outside the US.  It cannot be used with US carriers.

  • Why is my others section taking up 8gig on my 32 gig ipod tough 5th generation?

I need to know why my iPod tough 5th generation's 'other' section is taking up 8g of my capacity?

An "other" that large usually indicates that the "other" included corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.

  • Other is taking space from my iPhone 6 storage

    Hi,
am facing a problem with my iPhone 6 storage which before i didn't have it.
When i connect my iPhone to my mac and open iTunes it will show me the storage and others is taking most of my capacity. i tried third party app called clean mobile install it on my mac but it didn't solve the problem.
    please i need help
    Thanks,

Where did you get the phone? FaceTime is banned in some countries in the Middle East. What had you done before it disappeared; did you possibly reset or restore the phone?
If the above is not the issue, if you use Search by dragging down your finger from the center of the screen and you search for "Facetime" does it appear as an app? If it does, then you must have moved it into a folder or another page of the Home screen. If it is in a folder the folder name will be displayed.

  • HT201210 what is the 'other' section of storage on my iPhone?  I can't update iOS7 due to lack of storage!!  And I have deleted almost everything.

I can't update iOS7 due to lack of space for the upgrade.  I have hardly any songs, apps and pictures yet there is this 'other' storage which is over 4GB.  What is it and how can I reduce it?

Thanks, I ended up just going to Apple and returning it and upgrading to a 16GB Iphone and just paying the price diffence. They had no problem doing that. So, for $100 plus 10% restocking, I got a brand new, double the capacity, Iphone.

  • "Other" section taking up all memory.

Okay, so a day or two ago, a message came up saying my disk space was almost full, so I deleted all the stuff that I could. Then, it came up again. I found out how to see what category of stuff (Photos, Applications, etc...) is taking up the most space. Well, this is what I found...
This is ridiculous! I know I don't have 87gb worth of stuff downloaded. Does someone know how to fix this?

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    For ODS:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/OmniDiskSweeper.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
    For GP:
    security execute-with-privileges /A*/GrandPerspective.app/*/M*/* 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password.
The application window will open behind other open windows. When you scan a volume, the window will eventually show all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • How do you get rid of or reduce the "other" section in iTunes for an iPhone 5?

I have more space taken labled as "other" than I do anything else. I've spent hours researching and I've tried many different things. Please help!!!

You should import all pics taken with the iphone as you would from any digital camera.
You should amke sreu you ahve synced your contacts/calendars to your computer
You should transfer your itunes purchases made from the iphone to your computer.
Make sure that you have put everything on your computer, if you haven't already, before restoring.
The backup does not contain any itunes content.  Contacts are only backed up to keep recents and favorites.  I would never rely on the backup for your pics.  You should importing them to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera

  • 'Other' storage taking over my iPod Nano

I use my ipod Nano (4th gen) primarily for mp3 files, but have a few videos. I have no pictures on it, but I just checked in iTunes and it says I have 2.1 GB of Photos and a whopping 7.3 GB of my total 15 GB registering as 'Other' - how can I get rid of these mystery files?
    Thanks in advance,
    Deb

Thanks. I would prefer not having to totally restore my iPod, if possible, since I would lose music and other audios that I have on my iPod but lost on my computer in a hard drive failure. Also, I am manually updating my iPod and have never used the sync feature to add music, videos or other files.
That said, when I plug it into my computer, it does say it is syncing...
    Is restore my only option?

  • HT5517 In multiple Apple TV's installation how can one prevent one iOS device from taking over the connection of another iOS device?

I am working on a system design where I would like to install 5 Apple TV's so when clients walk in with their iPhones they can connect to the network and be able to stream their audio to facility zone speakers where they will be working. But I am looking to prevent others from taking over that connection. I have never installed multiple Apple TV's in one site but I assume one would name them differently (Apple TV 1 - 5) when setting them up. I am also assuming when I walk in with my iphone and use the airplay I would see all 5 Apple TV's listed. Once I choose Apple TV 1 for instance, I do not want others to walk in and see Apple TV 1 on the list any longer so they do not have the oportunity to select it inadvertantly. Is this doable?

You can't remove them from the list, but you can set a password for airplay to each Apple TV

  • Why is my "Documents and Data" section taking up so much space on my iPhone?

Before I updated my iPhone to iOS7, my "Other" section was giant, taking up over 4 GB! After I updated, the section split into "Other" and "Documents and Data". My "Other" section is under control now, but my "Documents and Data" section has over 3 GB, and I can't figure out why. I deleted many, many texts and it hardly changed the usage in this section. I've searched all over Google and Apple and can't seem to find a solution.
I don't even know what this space is used for. What falls under the usage of "Documents and Data"?
And how can I minimize this usage?!
    Someone please help!
    Thanks!!

According to Apple at the time to the iOS launch, it was confirmed that the iOS 8 in iPhone 6 will consume maximum 3GB of space.
So its actually the iOS 8 and the system files that has been categorized in the OTHER section using 2.83GB of space.

  • "Other" section in iPhone 5 grows larger every time the device is connected to computer

My phone's "other" section was getting unwieldy and I decided to opt for a fresh restore. After the initial bare bones setup, the other section starts at about 500 mb. I disconnect the phone from the computer and reconnect it. The other section seems to have gained 200 mb! I repeat this process several times and the size of the section continues to grow every time. The amount by which it increases has fallen, however. I repeat this about 15-20 times and the other section now sits at around 1 gb. I have the "automatically sync when connected" option off, and I am not making any changes for transfers to the phone in between connects/disconnects.
Now, I don't connect/disconnect my phone to the computer very often. But this is something very peculiar that I have noticed. What is mysteriously taking up those hundreds of mbs? This could be problematic because when I have restored from backups before, the other section seemed to be carried with it. I had already tried clearing caches, deleting texts, etc to try to get my previously larger other section to go down, but wasn't really able to dent it much. Hence, a fresh restore. Now I'm lucky that I don't have any precious app data that would be lost with a new setup. It's still inconvenient to have to put in my contacts and set everything back up.
Does anyone have similar experiences or know why this happens? I go under "usage" and see that it says "1.0 GB used." Since I haven't done anything to the phone, the sections of Calendars, Mail, Messages, etc are all "none" or neglible amounts in kb. So what's going on here? This junk data taking up space doesn't seem to be from isn't an app, texts, or emails.

    Hello SmallyBiggs
See if anything shows up when looking at the usage on your iPhone; go to Settings > General > Usage and you will get a list of what is taking up space. If you cannot find what it is, restart your iPhone and test. If that does not work then restore your iPhone.

  • TS2986 I keep getting the message that my HD is full, when I run the disk utility it appears that over 400 GB are in the "Other" section, how can I access that area to clean up?

Please help me to figure out how to clean up my HD. When I run the disk utility I get the following view:
As you can se 467.79 GB are in the "Other" section, but I cannot find a way to get to that and clean it up, please anyone out there How can I clean that up?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB free for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of your data. Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved. ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root. Back up all data now if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens. After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • An iphone app dealer keeps taking over my phone.

King.com Unlimited keeps forcing my iPhone to go to its Apple app-store app[s] page[s].They have several 'games' where they later persuade you to buy other features for their games.
How in heck can I prevent this ???? Is there a way to block it? Is my iPhone infected ?
I've never tried nor installed any of their games and am sick and tired of them taking over my phone, randomly, and frequently.
I can get off the page, but I'm seeing this/these pagepages far too mny times.

If it helps, my iSO is 7.1.1
It is an action from two events
    1. using the kissanime streaming site. [which I can understand]
    2. happens even when I'm not using the site. [but not as often, yet]
In the first case, I sometimes get an iPhone pop-up that asks me if I want to open the app page. it reads more like something wants to open an app page, do you agree ? More exactly like the pop-up says something can't open to the app store page, will I allow it?
I'll do a capture of it later and be more exact.
The times it just pops me over there when I'm not on that site nor using the browser are completely unexpected.
What I would prefer is that any such action acting upon my phone -always- asks the user if he/she/I will allow it.
It seems to be neccessary to prevent what I will think of as 'slimeware' forcing the iPhone to go to their app-store pages.
Since that requestor happens sometime, there should be a way to have it always be active; even if it requires an iSO update to have it be so. If I could make it always be active, I would consider the problem to be solved.
