"other" shows wrong storage information

Hi all,
My system is mountain lion, today I found that "other" shows zero KB. However, according to the graph bar, "other" should have almost 100 GB. So it dosen't
make sense at all for "other" only showing zero KB.. Last time I checked the storage of my laptop, "other" can indicate right storage space... I dont know what happened to my system to show incorrect storage information..
Does anyone have the situation like me before?
Any helps appreciated!

I had exactly the same problem but with 105 GB of yellow 'other' space on a 250 GB disk . I used Omidisk to give me a proper readout of what all the yellow was and it was mostly hidden files left by appplications I previously used that wasn't deleted when I removed them. Thunderbird mail was one of the main culprits.
If anyone knows of a good way of optimising disk space that doesn't require completely rebuilding the computer's Spotlight index then please let us know.

My macbook shows incorrect storage information, which is inconsistent with the available storage space.
The storage maps shows that:
App 119G with 179G free from 250 G
Which does not added up correctly.
I have tried to use disk repair in recovery mode but the storage is still wrong.
I'm using 10.10.1 OS X yosemite on my macbook
I do not use time machine.
Is there any way to solve this issue?

About This Mac is showing wrong Storage information

When I look to see how much my App, Movies, Photos, Autos, and Backups the GB being listed is wrong. I have a 120 GB hard drive. My Apps are claiming to be 130.43 gb, Movies at 22.13 gb, Photos 18.48 gb, Audio 1.17 gb, Backups 217.9 mb. It states that I have 47.73 gb of 120.1 gb available. Is there a quick fix for this, or will Apple need to create a fix?

I believe my storage 'graph' is also wrong. Looking at the bar, it would appear that I have very little storage space left, however, I do have 116GB (out of 170GB) free. Also, my Apps do not take up 118GB. The math does not add up and I do not understand the graph appearing that I am max'ing out.
What is going on?

Mac shows wrong storage information and 'desk is full' message

My MacBook Pro started giving me the 'desk is almost full' message lately, which eventually turned into 'desk is full'. I don't know how it happened or how I can find the files that account for the missing capacity; I tried using a few different applications (DIX and so) but all of them show the 9 gb or so for my own files. According to the storage feature from "about this mac," 234 gb are in the "Other" section.

Macbook pro shows incorrect storage information on SSD.

I am using a macbook pro. The storage information is shown wrongly. Control I shows the correct information but finder and space bar on the hard disk show incorrect storage information. Used space is actually 122 GB which is shown as 140 GB. Even omnidiskkeeper shows the breakup of 122 GB but the storage information summary shows 140GB.

   Re-index Macintosh HD.
   Spotlight reindexing will take a while to finish.
   System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

Apple, please mend this ASAP. Really stupid change since iOS 8.1
If you for some reason must have many different folder make sure that you put the newst photo in the last folder so one can easily find a photo when I don't want to copy all photos to, let' say, my friend computer.

I understand that your battery power is not showing correctly and does not provide warnings.
Here is a link to Test and Calibrate battery. As you did not provide your Operating System you will need to select the correct one from the list.

Iphone 6 showing wrong storage?!

hello everyone, this problem began yesterday after synching.
I Have a iPhone 6 128gb.
when looking at my storage, I have used 49gb for music, and around 5BG for photos/apps/videos. So, you can say in total I have consumed around 54gb, which should leave me with a healthy 60gb or so.
my phone is saying I only have 9gb left?!
IN iTunes the bar along the bottom which shows a breakdown of your storage shows over 50gb being used by 'other', when this is definitely not the case!!
does anyone have any advise of what I can do?

I've thought about ignoring the issue on iTunes, but on my phone General usage/storage says i only have 9gb left, and this is definitely incorrect.

Macbook Air showing wrong storage amounts

I was exactly sure where to put this question. This is my first time asking.
However, I have a Macbook Air, it's only a 120gb hard drive.
My problem is that the hard drive is showing that I have very minimal free space left. This would be understandable but I literally delete items off of it regularly, and I don't keep any pictures and minimal music on it. The surprising part is that it's showing I have 42.08GB being used under movies.
This is what is confusing to me because I have none saved on here that I know of. I have looked around too, just in case. I must say, I frequently download television shows, movies, etc., but always delete them after watching. Is it possible they could still be hiding somewhere? I'm thankful for any suggestions.

Give this a try and see if it works for you:
While in the Finder, Go to "Preferences". On the "General" screen (should be the first screen you see when Preferences comes up), there are some check boxes under "Show these items on the desktop". Make sure that "External Disks" is checked. It should display your external disk on the desktop.

Date Picker Calendar Show Wrong Date Information Dec/Jan 2014-2015

When using a Date Picker, the offered Date for January 1st 2015 is a Friday! It supposed to be a Thursday!
You can move to February, and return to January again, and it will correct itself.
This happens in Office 2007 and 2010
What's gone wrong?
IT will also offer the wrong December dates.
Is there a fix please?

Some remote possibilities...
Your computer's clock has an incorrect date
The wrong year is entered somewhere as the first day in 2016 is a friday.
You have the wrong date system selected 1900 vs. 1904 or vice versa.
You have a 3rd party (non MS) Date Picker that is programmed incorrectly.
You have Office 2013 (nothing seems to work there)
There are alternatives and I offer one for Excel...

USB storage devices not shown in Finder, yet function, and show in System Information?

Occurring starting about last month, this has gone from a seldom, to all the time situation. plugging in any USB memory device either directly to the computer, or with cables, will allow the files to be accessed/changed/deleted by programs, but the device with it's files will not show in finder. The device shows in System information. I have set Finder to show everything, but they no longer apear. Before failing entirely, I would sometimes have the device show for a short time, then get an "Improper removal" error, without touching the device, after a few moments. All these memory devices still function properly when used in external devices and when direcly accesed by software. Not being able to use finder to modify content is a significant problem.

Well I'm about out of ideas. Going off what you described, these devices work fine elsewhere and gradually failed on your computer.
Unless someone else can post other ideas, I only can suggest a reinstall of Lion from scratch. I would make sure I had a good backup from TM and an additional backup of your important files just in case.
Probably the easiest way would be to make a bootable USB stick or drive to work from. Procedure here: http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/08/make-a-bootable-mac-os-x-10-7-lion-installer-from -a-usb-flash-drive/
If you can accomplish that, see if you can boot from it. If so, use Disk Utility to erase the main drive and reformat it. Verify the drive is OK. Then quit Disk Utility abd procede to install Lion.
When the installation is finished, reboot and use Setup Assistant imediately to migrate your user data and applications back from the TM drive. Don't use migration assistant later.
I doubt it will help since the Comb-Update didn't fix it, but who knows.
