"Other" storage 261GB, how can I reduce this?

I have a MacBook Pro early 2008 2.4GHz with 4GB memory and a 500GB hard drive, running Mountain lion 10.8.
When I entered the "Storage" section in "About This Mac", I found out that 261GB are in some yellow bar called "Other", and another 85GB are in the "Backups" category. This is srtrange because I don't have any backups on my computer, and I've never backed up my computer using time machine or any other software.
44GB are movies, apps, photos, etc...
I ran the OmniDiskSweeper and it only found 137GB in my hard drive. That means it didn't find 255GB of storage.
How can I reduce this "Other" storage? and where can I find those backups?

First, empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space. Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved. ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root. Back up all data now. Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways: ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.) ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens. ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid. After installing ODS in the Applications folder, drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

If you are sure that you have sound in other apps - and if you can still hear keyboard clicks and get notifications, then system sounds are not muted. Try this and see if it works.
Close all apps completely and reboot the iPad.

I did not upgrade to the newest version of Itunes on my PC. I just now went to my Library were Music is listed. Under that is Movies, TV Shows, ItunesU, etc. When I opened my music list, each song was in numerical order. If I have the songs listed alphabetically, they are in numerical order. If I change my listing to album or whatever, the first song is listed in numerical order just as I showed in my original question. They are also numbered on my Playlists. I have my favorites in two different playlists. One of them was minus a song. I was able to see which one was missing because they were in numerical order. I know I could have just copied to correct one into the incorrect one and just skipped the duplicates, but I chose to do it this way.
So, the songs are listed numerically in my music folder under Library on my older version of Itunes. But, on my newer version, they are not listed numerically under music. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?????

The FF400 works fine with other apps (some like TwistedWave) setup in the program, and others (like Spotify) using system preferences & audio midi setup. How can I set the FF400 to be the sound output device in FCP 10.2? N.B. The FF400 is set as sound output device in both system preferences and audio midi setup.

I have the solution! Well it at least worked for me. This is the response I got from Apple, Can you please try the following steps towards fixing your audio issue, and report back with your results?
1. Open the application Audio Midi Setup (located in Applications : Utilities)
2. Select the Output Tab for the current output device
3. Select the Configure Speakers option
4. Select the Multichannel tab
5. Change the setting to Stereo Now mine was set to stereo but the left channel wasn't showing left. re-clicking on stereo reloaded the settings and after clicking apply it worked.

Get separate IDs
RECEIVING MESSAGES INTENDED FOR OTHER DEVICES
This occurs if you are sharing the same Apple ID for imessages.
If you are receiving imessages intended for other devices you can fix this by going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and do one of the following:
Uncheck the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on both devices if they are iPhones; or
On one of the devices go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the Apple ID, sign out, then sign in with a different Apple ID. Note: you can continue to share an Apple ID for the iTunes & App store for purchasing if you wish; it does not need to be the same as the ID you use for iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud and other services.
To prevent merging of your calendars and contacts when syncing calendars and contacts if you are using the same Apple ID for the iCloud account, be sure to set up separate iCloud accounts on each phone with separated IDs. Remember that if you change your ID in iTunes & App store, that apps and other purchased content is forever linked to the ID that was used to download the apps and the apps can only be updated with the ID that was originally used to download them. To download content purchased previously downloaded with a particular ID then that ID needs to be used to download past purchases. If you want all apps to be connected with the same ID you need to delete those apps downloaded with the old ID and download them again with your current and if the apps in question were paid apps then you need to pay again.

Obviously our Ipads are synced and I don't know how to correct this. Any advice ?

If you both have the same email account, there's no setting on iPad you can use. When a message is deleted, it's deleted from the mail account server, which will happen on both devices.

Simulate Signal Express VI is sending two periods of the wave per loop iteration - how can I reduce this to one period?

I've been trying to use the Signal Generator Express VI and DAQ Assistant in order to generate an output waveform, as seen in this NI tutorial video:

For background, I'm trying to move a piston device using Labview. The sine waveform is intended to move the piston at a smooth speed. For every loop iteration, the Simulate Signal VI running into my DAQ Assistant moves the piston to its maximum displacement and back twice. I cannot determine why this is occuring.
The settings in my "Configure Simulate Signal" tab are as follows:
Frequency: 1Hz
Phase: 90 deg
Amplitude: 2
Offset: -2
I would like my piston to only reach its maximum displacement and return for every iteration of the loop. I've tried adjusting all of the settings within "Configure Simluate Signal" but I can only work in even numbers - sending the piston back and fourth two, four, or eight times, ect.

The Simulate Signal VI is set for integer number of cycles and the default frequency set in the Cycles per Second control is 3.75 Hz. That results in the signal containing three complete cycles and the data array contains 8000 elements, not the nominla 10000 specified in the Express VI dialog.
If you only want one cycle, you need to specify the signal so that you only get one. Either reduce the frequency or reduce the number of samples.
As you have noticed Express VIs do one thing exceedingly well: They obscure what is going on inside. I pulled your signal generation code out into a separate VI and then created a generator which will generate the same signal but allow you to select the number of cycles. It uses the Sine Waveform.vi from the Signal Processing >> Waveform Generation palette.
I also recommend that you change the structure of your program. The use of sequence structures is discouraged in LabVIEW because they defeat dataflow are very inflexible when changes need to be made. A Producer/Consumer Design Pattern plus a state machine would probably be a good choice. This will allow separation of the daq acquisition from the saving to file so that the timing of one does not constrain the timing of the other.
Setting the Analog Input Read to read multiple samples simultaneously and using the hardware timing of the data acquisiton device will get data faster and the timing will be precisely (compared to software timing) controlled by the hardware.
Writing to the same file in parallel loops probably results in some strange behavior such as differing numbers of writes from acquired data compared to generated cycles. As the file grows, the writes may slow down due to the OS needing to fragment or reallocate space for the file.

Using multiple MAIL accounts with GMail. When I compose a message from one account it shows "FROM" as one of my other accounts. How can I resolve this? Thanks!

As Ernie said, you need to create an SMTP server for each gmail account with the correct username and password. Be sure the correct server for each account is listed in the SMTP box and check the box to use only that server for that account.
Gmail's default behavior when sending from one account through another account's outgoing server is to change the address to the server which is used. Same goes if I send a message from my ATT/Yahoo account and use gmail's server to send through. It will change the ATT address to the gmail address.
There is an option in gmail's settings under the Account's tab under Send Mail As. You can add different gmail or other accounts such as Yahoo to this and choose how the gmail server handles it. You can set it to send as the sending account and not change the address. I've used this many times for my ATT account for sending through gmail when ATT accounts were having problems.
You can add the different accounts to each gmail account you have.
