Other takes up 4.5gb on my iphone4 8gb

Ok so I have a 8gb iPhone 4 and I recently synced it to my iTunes. When I sync is it says "other" and that takes up 4.5 gb of space. Let me remind you that I have 16 apps and that only takes up 1.06 gb. I have no music. No books and only 30 pics. My email isn't synced onto it and I only have like 80 contacts I have no space whatsoever on my phone now. So I restored my phone and then restored it from back up and nothing has changed. Please help me!

OTHER DATA
Other data on your device should only be about 1.5GB and larger than this may indicate corrupt data.

To get rid of it you need to restore not from a backup.

if you have iPhone4 and can you take out the sim card from iPhone4 and transfer it in to new iPhone4s?

Under the circumstances this will probably considered a dumb question.
I currently have a jailbroken unlocked 3GS with a GoPhone plan.  Works great.  I am considering upgrading to a new factory unlocked 4S.  Will I be able to swap in my current SIM card and go?

The fix was to completely remove all Apple Software following guides in previous posts.
Then download and re-install latest iTunes 64-bit, making sure to Run As Administrator.
This fixed it. Now the next thing seems to be that as I move from one device to another to close and restart iTunes between each one. Treat it gently. It seems to break easily and a lot.

  • "Other" takes up 8GB on my Ipad2 (16GB)! How do I get rid of it?

I recently reseted my IPads 2's settings only to find out that I have no memory left! It couldn't have been my music because I had previously deleted a lot of my songs. So I checked on ITunes to see what could have been the problem. I found out that "Other" takes up 8.4 GB! What the heck is "other" and why is it taking up so much space? Also is there anyway I can remove it? I'd appreciate any help.

How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Hello I have a problem related to synchronization. When you synchronize ipad Section 3 "Other" takes as much memory up to 8 gigobayt. How to make the section "Other" did not increase? Thank you.

    Hello
I have a problem related to synchronization.
When you synchronize ipad Section 3 "Other" takes as much memory up to 8 gigobayt.
How to make the section "Other" did not increase?
    Thank you.

DOCUMENTS AND DATA IS ALSO WHERE YOUR MAIL INFORMATION IS STORED SO IF YOU ARE A "HOARDER" IN EMAIL, GO INTO THE GMAIL, HOTMAIL, ICLOUD ETC WHATEVER YOU USE, AND DELETE YOUR TRASH, SENT, DRAFTS, ETC.
    THAT SHOULD HELP A LOT.

  • Some photos load quick, others take a long time

I have about 4,000 photos in my library. When I click on some photos they goto the edit scren right away. Others take as long as 20 seconds to pull up. Any logical reason why?
Also, when I click to edit some photos, it takes me to the edit screen and shows a gray box in it's place. What happened to my photos that pull up like this?
    Thanks.

Regarding the length of time for displaying do you have different formatted files in the library and could the slower ones be large files like tiffs or similar?
The gray box indicates that iPhoto has lost the link to that photo and thinks it's missing. There's a way to recover those files one by one. If there's only a few this might not be such a hardship. Here's how:
1 - find the "missing" file via the Finder in the Originals folder and copy it to the desktop.
2 - delete that photo from within iPhoto.
3 - import the duplicate file from the desktop.
If you have a lot of these then there's no easy way to recover them all without creating a new library and importing the Originals folder from the old one. That, of course, will lose your albums, books, comments, keywords* and other organizational efforts.
    * If you find you must go that route and want to try to recover your keywords you can try the workflow in Tutorial #1 before starting the new library.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • ITunes 10.5 synching with iPhone iOS 5.0..."other" takes up a ton of space?!

So, Something is wrong with my iPhone...
I just updated it yesterday, and all of my music was off of it when clicking on the 'music' icon (even though in settings it said it was on there?)
but the bigger problem is the capacity of my phone... seen in the photo, it says that the 'other' takes up 16 gigs. This happened on my iPad, so i took off a ton of photos, etc, only to find out that it was because i had podcasts synched on. I took them off of my phone, along with videos, but this still shows up. what do i do?

This happened to me, but not as dramatically.  I restored the iPhone from a back up and that shrunk the Other to a less alarming chunk.

  • I want to know what is the portion that the others take up space

I want to know what is the portion that the others take up space on the Ipod touch when you connect to Itunes. Just wondering what that is

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware etc. or in the case of iPods that can be enabled for disk use Other can included files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device.

Hi there, this isn't Apple but a users discussion forum. For iCloud use your Apple ID.

Right people, I really hope you can help... here's the story:
I produce with a friend and approx 4 months ago we both upgraded to brand new MacBook Pro's each and Logic Pro 9 each.
I bought a 13" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.53Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
He bought a 15" MacBook Pro with 4GB and the 2.66Ghz Intel Core i7 processor.
We both have bought the full version of Logic Pro 9, both done the upgrade to 9.1 and have both set our copies of Logic to 64 bit.
Why? The only advantage you have from 64 bit is that Logic can use more than 4 GB RAM - which neither of you have. I would strongly recommend setting Logic to 32 bit. On both Books. It might alleviate some or even all the problems - I hope.
Here's a list of unavailable features in 64 bit mode:

My friends copy of Logic on his Mac is so buggy its sometimes unusable.
My mate is about to throw the **** thing out of the window and buy Cubase!
More often than not it is hard to install new software on computers that have been thrown about.
Can anyone shed any light please??
I think 32 bit is your answer. However, the mobile i7 processor does at least have one issue with Logic:

  • Had 5gb of space, updated to IOS 6 now other takes up 3.95gb. HELP!!

I want to get rid of this other or reduce it to a reasonable size- eg: it used to be 50mb, id kinda like that back. But also im trying to backup and restore my Ipod but when i try to back it up it says Cannot backup, current backup is corrupt or incompantible with this version, even though i already deleted the current backup. What do i dooo?????????? HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!!!!!!!

    - Try deleting the existing backup. This will make iTunes make an entire backup. Usually iTunes just updated that last backup with the changes.
To delete go to iTunes>Preferences>Device. Select the backup and click on delete.
    - An "other" of about 1 GB or so is  normal.
An "other" that is larger usually indicates that the "other" includes corrupted files.  Usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
To restore to factory settings/new iPod see:

  • Why does it say that my camera roll takes up 5.5GB of space on my iPhone when I only have less than 100 photos in my camera roll and none in photo stream

When I try to delete photos and music off my phone to create more space, it still says that my photos take up 5.5 GB of space but there are none in my phone

Have you synched your phone to iTunes lately?   Maybe there is a corrupted sync that needs to be cleaned up.

  • ITunes Says "Other" takes up 1.31 GB of memory on my ipod

this makes it impossible for me to add anything to my ipod. it says that the "other" category (orange) takes up about 1/3 of my ipod. i have no album artwork on it. any ideas what could be causing this problem?

A restore only affects your iPod. The restore will put your iPod back to factory settings including removing all of your music & other files, it has nothing to do with the content in your iTune library. As long as everything is in your iTunes library, once the restore is completed, iTunes should sync everything back to your iPod.

  • How do I reduce the amount of space that "Other" takes up on my macbook pro.

I've just bought a new macbook pro with Retina display & running Yosemite. I have the 128Gb version.
Initially I downloaded all my music into iTunes, but after seeing that it took up almost 40Gb of the 128Gb I decided to delete it from the Macbook. But now I find that I have 40Gb of "Other" in it's place. Does anyone know what "Other" is and how I can reduce it's bulk? (Image attached)
