Other than Iphoto...what apps

What other applications can I use with my Imac to 1) add text to a photo 2) do various effects, etc
Iphoto seems limited.
Any suggestions?

One of the more advanced and full featured image editors at the consumer level is Adobe - Adobe Photoshop Elements for Macintosh. Amazon.com currently has a special on it knocking off $20 from the full $89 price.
Here are some of the things you can do with it:
Example 1, Example 2 and Example 3.

  • Other than iphoto

Anyone know any good photo suite apps other than iphoto that i can still use to take photos off of the iPhone?

Well, I've not had any success getting photos off the phone, other than mailing them to myself, because when I look in iPhoto and Image Capture, the phone seems to be recognized, but it always says there are "No Images", even though there are over 50 images on the phone.
Frustrating. Anyway, to answer your question, try using Image Capture. Maybe you'll hve better luck. It's free, and included in your /Applications folder.

    OK. I will work backwards.
You certainly don't want to have to delete apps every time that they need an update, for any number of reasons. Losing data first and foremost would be a drag, but the overall hassle would be absurd. All things being equal, you should be able to update apps in the future after you delete them and reinstall them. I delete and reinstall apps all the time and I am also able to update them when updates are available for the apps. I just wanted to know if you had any success in any fashion installing apps.
Resyncing/refreshing the Apple ID/iTunes account wouldn't seem to be the issue either if you can download apps or other content from the iStores. Your ID is being accepted.
That leaves us with I'm not sure what. But I think I would try this trick fix and see if it helps.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.

  • Import photos from source other than iphoto

Is there a way to import photos to imovie from a source other than iphoto or photo booth? I have a cd of pics that i'd like to use but I'd rather not import all the pics to iphoto if I don't have to.
    thanks

Wow; I can drag the photos from the Finder directly into my project. I actually tried this, but I tried dragging them into the lower pane with all the source clips. That won't work, but if you drag the photos into the top pane where your edited work is it magically adds the photo(s). Thanks for the tip!

  • Are there any apps for managing photos other than iphoto

I do not find iphoto to be a particularly intuitive or user friendly app to manage photos with.  Are there any other options?

What is your complaint about iPhoto? What are you having problems with?  Have you perused the tutorials on iPhoto:
    Apple - iPhoto for Mac
Mac Apps - iPhoto - Apple Support
What features do you want in a photo management applications.  There are many, many image management apps for Mac available:
    Lightroom
    Aperture
    IMatch 5
    Stock Keeper
    Photo Explorer
    Shoebox Express
    Shoebox Pro
    Picasa
    JetPhoto Studio
    myPhotos
    photo 1.5.1
    Photo Supreme
    MediaDex
    EzyPic Photo Organizer
    Daminion
    Photonator
    iMatch
    uAlbum
All have different features so you'll need to determine what's important to you and do some research.  I don't think any are as easy to use as iPhoto, particularly with a Mac.

  • Other than voicemail what should i expect tp lose when converting from a blackberry phone to iPhone 4s

What sould i expect to lose other than voicemails when i convert to iPhone 4s from a blackberry

    Hello chopper59,
If you've already purchased and received your iPhone 4S, congratulations!  You've made a great choice.
I'd also like to thank the other Community members for the feedback & suggestions.
Just as mentioned earlier, you would lose your voicemail messages, so it is suggested to save the messages you're wanting to keep to another storage device.  There are multiple ways to transfer contacts, depending on how your contacts are currently backed up with your current Blackberry.  For example, if you're using the Backup Assistant application, there is an application on the iPhone called "VZ Contact Transfer" that allows you to move your contacts from Backup Assistant to your iPhone.
I'm including a link with more information about activating and transferring information to an iPhone 4S here:

I hope we have answered your questions, and have addressed your concerns.

  • How can i upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion other than from the app store?

I am trying to upgrade to OSX Mountain Lion from OSX Lion but i get this message:
"We could not complete your purchase. The product distribution file could not be verified. It may be damaged or was not signed."
Further I am able to download other programs from the app store (like growl) but it does not work for Mountail Lion ????
I looked through the forum and one post said that i have to use lion recovery to reinstall osX lion but then it defetes the objective of upgrading.
    Please help me
    Cheers

If your system's not compatible with 10.8 and has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for 10.7.

  • Using ios 5.0.1 in an iPhone 4. Can't get the gps to turn off in the Reminder app even though I do not have a location reminder set. Battery life suffers because of it. What can I do other than keep the app turned off all the time in settings?

Installed ios 5 and created a location reminder to see how it worked. The gps icon came on and I expected it would because how else would the phone know where I'm at.
After I was reminded and marked it as complete I also deleted the reminder from the app. The gps never went off and the only way I can get it to turn off is by switching the app off in the location settings.
Installed ios 5.0.1 and the same thing. I turned on the app in the location settings to see what would happen and I was again reminded by location to the same reminder. It said in the alert that the reminded was 28 days old. Like I said I deleted the reminder from the app. Somehow it's still in the apps memory and I have no idea how to get rid of it for good.
    Thank you,
    Marilyn

  • Backing up iphone photos somewhere other than iPhoto

Help!!  I have to restore my iPhone ASAP.  Since I have too many pictures on my Mac to use the Cloud for my back up, I need to back up my iPhone pictures to my Mac - but I don't want them in iPhoto.  I don't use iPhoto for my pictures b/c it forces me to organize my photos in a different way than what works for me, so I keep them in the Pictures folder on my Mac.  How do I do this? I want to be absolutely positive I have my photos backed up before I reset my iPhone.   I've been able to import them to iPhoto, but I can't get them into a folder outside of iPhoto and into a new folder in Pictures.  I've tried every way I see to use iPhoto to get them into a separate folder, and it's either not possible or I'm doing something wrong (the latter is most likely).  I have  tried Image Capture, which lets me create a new folder to put my pictures in, but it doesn't give me the option to put them there. I've even tried old-fashioned command-C and command-V to copy-n-paste the pictures, and it didn't work, either. When I set my phone up again I want to leave the pictures off my phone (so I have room for more!!) so I need them backed up on my Mac.  I am probably doing something wrong, but I am desperate at this point!!!  I have an iPhone 4S (running iOS 5.1.1) and a MacBook Pro (running Lion 10.7.4).  HELP!!!

Yes there is. You want to use a back up utility that will do incremental back ups. Chronosync and DejaVu are two such, but there are others. Search on MacUpdate.

  • Anyone have any luck getting a photo editing program for 10.9.1 ?  (other than iPHOTO / Aperature)

I was using Elements 11 with Mountain Lion and that was OK but the reviews for Elements 12 compatability with 10.9 are all pretty bad.  The folks at Adobe claim that Elements 12 "can be installed" on 10.9.1 but they dont actually state that it  "works".   I'm just trying to avoid spending the big bucks for the full Photoshop program and Im not even sure that would work either.  I have this great new iMAC and cant play around with it yet. Suggestions ?

I have used all of the following on Maversicks, with no issues at all:
    iPhoto
    Aperture
    Acorn
    Graphic Converter
    Intensify Pro
    Snapheal
I've not seen any reports indicating any issues with other apps either. I would strongly echo Larry's comments about App Store reviews, and reviews on download sites and forums up and down the internet. The great thing about the internet is that everyone has an opinion, that might also be the worst thing.
The problems with these comments are manifold: for a start, happy people are less likely to review, unhappy happy are much more inclined to. That's why we don't have thousands and thousands of posts on this forum from all the people who have no problems saying "look I have no problems". Unhappy people get cross and are more likely to express that anger in negative reviews.
Then what about the reviewer? What is his or her knowledge, experience and skill level? No doubt they are having problems, and real ones, but how do you know if their issues are problems with the app, their own inexperience, third party conflicts and so on. I've seen people on here claim the fact that iPhoto won't edit video is a bug. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of posts from folks on here who are certain they've found a bug, only for their glitch to be resolved. No review is worth anything unless you know something of the reviewer, his or her knowledge and experience.
So frankly, I never bother with those reviews on any such stores, not just iPhoto on the Mac App Store.

  • Access photos from anywhere other than iPhoto?

    Hey everyone,
Admittedly I am an iPhoto noob, but I am not a Mac noob or a photo noob. That being said, a friend suggested I use iphoto for all my photo organization and I'm having trouble with that from the very beginning. I usually use Bridge or just a regular file structure. I can access my photos from anywhere and I am proficient in Photoshop and Lightroom.
I am testing the iPhoto platform out for my future use, but I can't get past the first flaw...
Why is it that I cannot access my photos from outside of iPhoto? This seems counter productive...
Can anyone enlighten me please? I don't want to read the whole .PDF manual on iPhoto.
    Thank you for your time!

I am testing the iPhoto platform out for my future use, but I can't get past the first flaw...
If you see the first gap in your knowledge as a flaw in the software, you might as well give up now. You're resisting it. That said, if you have Lightroom I have no idea why you would want to use iPhoto - and using both makes no sense. Adding Bridge to the process just muddies everything else further. But then if you have Lightroom and Photoshop I have no idea why you would be using Bridge, or accessing photos via the File system, but you're proficient int hose so I'm sure you know that.
iPhoto is a consumer level application. It's aimed at the chap with a point and shoot or maybe a phone. It has the power to fix up the shot and share it easily. It can do more than that, of course, but that's the target market. It's serves that market very well, mind you, offering Raw processing, non-destructive editing and so on, and in a very easy to use package, but if you're proficient with Lightroom, Bridge and Photoshop then it has very little to offer you. It's a tack hammer beside a team of sledgehammers.
Why is it that I cannot access my photos from outside of iPhoto? This seems counter productive...
But you can, of course.  For help accessing your photos in iPhoto see this user tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4491
Then there's the external edit facility. This would make Bridge redundant. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
But really, it's not for you.

  • I am waiting for my restore to allow me to go to the next step, but I don't have a choice other than stop, what can I do?

I am not sure what to do next?

Well, thank you for that advice, ignoring Don's advice....in this whole process my power went out and I now have more questions than answers....
I had to start from the beginning, I used the install dvd and used utilities to erase the hard drive and reinstall the Snow Leopard OS X.  As I followed the directions and it appeared to complete the install, I had the screen to sign-in as I would when the computer was running normally, I was able to sign-in BUT that is where I am now, not able to do anything but use the install dvd to run whatever I choose, (utilities, restore from timemachine, etc).
I am not sure what do, I have the install disk ready do to whatever, but I need some advice that can hopefully get me out of this mess?!?!?!?!

  • All photos uploaded since iLife 11 upgrade arent visible anywhere other than iphoto itself.

Since installing iLife 11 onto my 2007 iMac I cannot find photos that have been uploaded since the upload when trying to export them onto an external hard drive or upload them to an external photo printing site.
They arent in the HD drag and drop box either.
This means I have lost all the functions I use iphoto for!
    Please help!

  • I am running 10.6.8 on an iMac7,1 with 2.4GHz, 4Gb RAM.  Other than usual Apple apps, I also run Microsoft Office for Mac.  Am i better off upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks rather than trying to go to Yosemite ?  Thanks!

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an iMac 7,1 system with 2.4GHz processor and 4Gb RAM.   I also use Microsoft Office for Mac.
I am wondering whether i should upgrade to Yosemite or first go to Mountain Lion or Maverics to avoid sluggishness and other potential issues with using Yosemite on this iMac.

i had thought Snow Leopard was no longer supported hence my idea to upgrade.
It isn't being supported any longer.
If you haven't done this you might want to consider doing it for security.
