Other than photo booth

Hey, i was wondering. Does anybody know of a program other that Photo Booth to take pics with my isight. One that doesn't have the flash or has the option to turn it off. Or not, is there any other programs that use isight in a good way?

Welcome to Apple Discussions, peeping tom
I have tested CamGrabber, and it does NOT use a screen flash when capturing snapshots.
You can also try the other snapshot apps listed in the Link that Tony provided above to see whether you like them better.
Funny Photographer DOES flash the screen.

You cannot attach them in a mail.
    But, you can do this.
    1. Go to the document.
    2. Tap on share button.
    3. There should be an option "Mail"
    4. Tap on it and attach.

The videos cut out before i pressed stop. They lasted about 37 seconds and then just cut out randomly, when i was recording however, it say it was still recording and ive set it so my screen doesnt dim withing 30 minutes whenever im recording.
And then when it finaly fracking worked, the ONE THAT ACTUALLY WORKED had no sound!!!! the other ones had sound, but stupid mic just decided not to work?
The only programs running was photo booth and the always running finder.

    Some ideas you can consider:
    (1) Your system info shows Mac OS X (10.5.6)
If this is correct, use your Mac's Disk Utility to repair permissions. Then download and install the latest version of Leopard:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/DL866
Immediately after the restart that completes the update, repair permissions again. Then test to see if the problem is resolved.
    (2) Verify that you are not clicking anywhere outside the Photo Booth window while recording. When running Photo Booth in Mac OS X 10.5.x on my G5 Mac, Photo Booth immediately stops recording unless its recording is the currently active window.
(For other readers, Snow&Leopard Photo Booth does NOT stop even if its window is not the active one.)
    (3) Test recording with iMovie and QuickTime Pro if you have it to see if they also quit early.
If apps other than Photo Booth record properly but you do not want to use one of those that work properly, it is possible that a corrupted Photo Booth Preferences file is causing your problem. Quit Photo Booth (and all other applications) and throw away the Photo Booth Preferences file (com.apple.photobooth.plist) from your Home / Library / Preferences folder. A new preferences folder will be generated when you restart Photo Booth to test whether it works now.
    (4) If resetting preferences did not help but you still want to use Photo Booth, reinstalling the Photo Booth app might help.
    (5) You might also see if any of the suggestions here help you:

  • Photo Booth photo delay time?

Is there a Setting or Preference by which you can set the delay timer before a photo is taken in Photo Booth?
3 seconds isn't really long enough to stage a photo if you're also IN the photo. Is there a way to edit that setting, or, alternately, to program the application to take many photos in a row until it's told otherwise?
    Thanks in advance, Mac wizards!

    Welcome to Discussions, -Luke
I agree with Ralph. You can enable or disable the 3 second countdown in Photo Booth, but you cannot otherwise adjust it. Photo Booth, a rather basic app that allows few adjustments, won't do what you want. Moreover, Photo Booth is not scriptable, so you cannot control it with AppleScript.
If you cannot find some application other than Photo Booth that will do what you want, you may be able to use Apple Script &/or Automator with a different application (QuickTime Pro, iChat, etc.) to do something like what you want.
You may be able to use Automator's "Take Picture" or "Take Video Snapshot" process to automate a workflow that will meet your needs.
If not, and if the help file linked here does not give you some ideas, check out the two threads listed below to see if they might give you an idea for a starting point.

  • Photo Booth Cropping Image

I have a early 2009 iMac and use Photo Booth frequently. I noticed something recently that has been bothering me. Photos taken in Photo Booth are 1280x853.  It seems that Photo Booth is cropping a 1280x1024 image, and I wanted to know why and if it is possible to stop it. I know that the iSight is capturing more on the top and bottom of the image than Photo Booth displays/captures. I can see the full image when I use Quicktime or see my video feed in skype.

Lee Keller wrote: ... Photos taken in Photo Booth are 1280x853...
    Normal behavior.  Same happening here.
Lee Keller wrote: .. I wanted to know why ...
I couldn't find an Apple explanation of why, but my guess is that it must be how the software is written in conjunction with your iSight's native (maximum) resolution.  (As in-built camera resolution and Mac OS X software and apps have changed over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Each of these cameras may behave slightly differently in some applications.)
Lee Keller wrote: ... if it is possible to stop it....
    I don't know any way.
If you like, you can send suggestions about this directly to Apple via Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback for their consideration in future Photo Booth product development.

  • Using cam other than iSight built in

Hello Everyone - trying to use a camera other than the built in i-sight for more flexibility. How does one turn off the default built in cam so that a USB cam can be used? Thanks for the help - Carlyle

    Hi,
The External iSights are of some vintage now in computer and device terms.
However if kept up-to-date firmware wise it will still work well in to to Snow Leopard.
First check it is being seen in the System Profiler.
This can be accessed by holding the ALT key whilst selecting the Apple icon menu and then the top Item (If you don't hold ALT this items reads About this Mac and if that is used the More Info button also gets you there)
You need to open the reveal Triangle and look in Hardware and Firewire.
If it does show it should show you the Firmware is at 1.0.3
(For Snow Leopard Users.  This does seem to make a difference in Snow Leopard despite Apple saying it was only an Audio Update).
Having the External iSight connected to one firewire port and having Hard Drives or other devices connected as well (daisychaining)c can be an issue as the iSIght sends data at a different rate to Hard Drives.
If yours is a newer MacBook Pro that has the Firewire 800 port then you need an Adapter (800 to 400).
I have heard that it pays to look around and read what other people have said works as not all adapters are equal it seems.
If the System Profiler show the Camera then try other apps (Photo Booth, Quicktime (Pro in Leopard if you have the Pro bit) or any other app that can access the camera)
The test in another Mac User Account.
If you don't have one then create one in System Preferences > Accounts.
(I have one called Test and have some of the same iChat Details entered there for Testing)
Try a different FIrewire lead to the camera.
I have read that often changing this solves it (not that the leads fail more often than the camera but it worth a test.)
If you can, try a different computer  (If your computer has two or more Firewire ports then check those)
Next Unplug all Firewire devices from the computer and shut down the computer (In the case of a Laptop also Unplug the power)
Wait 15 Mins as this then resets the Firewire controllers  (You have to wait long enough for various capacitors to discharge that help retain info on counting/allocating ID numbers to devices that are/were attached which is why Laptops need the power disconnected as well).
    Summary.
Check System Profiler and tells what it says.
Try other apps and report on your findings
Try another Mac User (And those same apps) and report back.
    Try a Firewire port Reset.
Check the camera on another computer
    Try a different Firewire cable/lead.

  • Photo Booth "Can't restore window" (Photo Booth crashes) after Lion

The first time I opened Photo Booth after installing "Lion" a pop-up indicated I had to wait until the "files" were re-loaded.  After that Photo Booth just crashes every time you try and say "restore window" or even if you say "don't restore window".  In other words Photo Booth can no longer be used on my iMac.  I will try and use the software on my MBA and see if it runs into the same issue.  If anyone knows a fix please let me know.

From What I've found.. it seems 3ivx or Perian could cause this problem. A friend had this issue and deleted 3ivx and it fixed his crashes. Alternatively, some folks are reporting that turning off 32-bit mode (Get Info) for Photobooth has also fixed, although this was already turned off in my friend's case. Or if you have iGlasses installed.

  • Does anyone know any good photo booths other than photobooth for the mac??

please help me. Im looking for new effects for photos it take.
    thanks alot!

    Hello JimmyStone
Photo Booth "effects" are commands that are built into OS X core functions, so all the effects available for Photo Booth are already in the app.

    Please I'll be thankfull.

I stated that I did try to do all of this when I first set up the new computer...I did do the Setup Assistant numerous times but my old computer kept freezing half way through.  Even if I did it when I first got the new computer back in Septemeber, I would have had the same issue b/c my old computer has been 'broken' for a while.  My old computer can't handle doing too much at once and I think the setup and then migration functions I tried were too much.  That's why I was hoping I could use the migration function piecemeal.  I wish I could just check off the exact files and folders I want vs. having to choose it at the 'user' level...that's too much for my old computer to have to transfer.

  • Import photos from source other than iphoto

Is there a way to import photos to imovie from a source other than iphoto or photo booth? I have a cd of pics that i'd like to use but I'd rather not import all the pics to iphoto if I don't have to.
    thanks

Wow; I can drag the photos from the Finder directly into my project. I actually tried this, but I tried dragging them into the lower pane with all the source clips. That won't work, but if you drag the photos into the top pane where your edited work is it magically adds the photo(s). Thanks for the tip!

  • Is there a way to have different photos on each page of your springboard, other than jailbreak?

basically the questions says it all. i want to have several photos for my wallpaper rather than just one. is there a way to do this other than the jailbreak method and i do not even consider that.
    thanks

You only get 2 places for pictures, the lock screen and the home screen ( I think that's the name, I can't remember right now, but you get the idea ).

My friend has over 2,000 photos on her iphone and it only used 1.7 GB of space and I know I had at one point over 3,000 photos on my phone and still had space left for more.
    Any tips are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Melissa.

When you open your camera app, does it say "HDR on" at the top?
HDR photos are better quality but take up much more space.
Also, go to Settings>photos and camera.  Scroll down to "keep normal photo".  Is it on?  This feature saves a normal copy and an HDR copy of every photo you take.
I bet your friend has this feature turned off along with the HDR as well.

  • Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent

Is there a way to change the color of the Bezier Curves and points to a different color other than black  I find it perplexing while setting points and curves working on a photo that needs to be separated from it's background for placement on transparent backgrounds. Any thoughts?

Yes. Well, sort of: instead of a "path", set the pen tool to "shape" in the tool properties. Then set the fill colour to transparent, and the stroke colour to the colour you want. You can also set the stroke width.
Not perfect, but at least you can see the path more clearly - the anchor points and handles still remain the default colour. Open the path panel, and right-mouse click the path shape to create a selection based on that shape. The Paths panel menu also allows you to create work paths based on that shape.
Unfortunately when you try to move the handles the black thin outline appears again until you release the mouse button.
This is one of several things that works better in Photoline: in Photoline, once the path is set to a specific colour, editing the path uses the actual colour and stroke width. which is extremely handy for creating path based selection with awkward background colours and/or a high resolution screen. In Photoline the handles and bezier points are also much, much larger, which makes it rather simpler to work with as well - especially on a higher resolution screen. And when selected the handles and points are a clear red with a black outline - again easier to spot and identify. I just works better, in my opinion.
