Other Users Cannot Connect To My Shared Folder. Only Displays VNC

I set my account up to accept File Share.
When my friends access my computer through the "share" tab in finder, it says that they are connected through VNC and gives them an option to do "screen sharing" but thats all that they can do.
They cannot see the public folder.
How can I fix this?
Thanks,
Jake

you can also remove all the preffered networks in your computer and reconnect to the network using the new setting that you have placed on the router.

  • Sharing only users cannot connect to Lion Server

    Dear all,
I stumbled across a funny problem, that I tried to resolve all day. I just wanted to add a sharing only user for my girlfriends new MacBook that she could use to connect to a shared Time Machine Volume.
If I add a new standard user, this user can connect to my server via finder (connect as...) and see the shared drives. If the same user tries to connect to the Time Machine Backup Volume via the settings dialog, it receives an error message (OSStatus-error 5).
If I add a sharing only user, this user cannot connect via finder or Time Machine (same error). The clients console states the following error message:
/System/Library/CoreServices/NetAuthAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/NetAuthAgent[2471]      AFP error -5018 mapped to EIO
    Does anybody have an Idea?

That is my point.  Yes, Apple still lets you add users via users and groups in system preferences but that is not how you should be adding users.  I've seen nothing but trouble when that option is used to add users and I believe that the Lion server docs say to not use that.  If you are using lion server why not use it the way it was meant to be.  Just create a account in OD and only give her access to the Time Machine Service and none of the others.

  • Windows 2008 : How to Restrict Users to Copy file from Shared Folder

    Hello All,
I need to Restrict Users to Copy file from Shared Folder. Please let me know is there any method to achieve this requirement.

If user have Read permission, they can copy it. So actually you cannot restrict user from copy your files if they could read/edit.
Some programs could help restrict users from edit/modify/copy the content of their files such as Office files, PDF files etc as Oscar said above.

    Hello,

    All users on 10.10.1
    2 Servers on 10.10.1

SMB connection works when connecting to the OD Master
SMB does not work when connecting to the OD Replica ServerBut AFP works fine when connecting to the OD Replica Server.
I have destroyed and re-added the OD replica but that did not seem to help
This is what I see in the logs each time I try to connect(logs have been cleaned to remove client details:

I suspect the problem is to do with Kerberos and in relation to this server being an OD Replica.
I would really appreciate anyone's insight into this.
    Thanks

I have the same problem although I upgraded from Lion Server to Mountain Lion Server. The error appears to go hand in hand with this error.
userInit: CFPreferences: user home directory for user kCFPreferencesCurrentUser at /Network/Servers/fullyqualifieddomainname/Users/user is unavailable. User domains will be volatile.
I've read a number of things to try. A lot of people point to DNS being a problem, but I'm confident this is correct in my environment.

  • How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation?

How many users can connect to a shared drive on a non-server workstation? We're waiting for our server to arrive and in the interum we're using a Pegasus 2 R6 attached to an iMac running Mavericks as our fileserver. It's been sketchy, the connection to the server being dropped once in a while or the inability to mount the drive after a week of success. The Pegasus we're using now will be attached to a server once it arrives. For now I need to figure what's coausing trouble before I commit to this being our main storage as planned. The data is backed up every night so I'm not worried, its the usability issues. 5-7 people are mounting this drive and opening/saving at the same time. Is there a limit to Maverick's fileserving ability that may be causing this? Understandable if so.

The file server in the client version of OS X has a default limit of 10 simultaneous connections. That limit can be raised by installing OS X Server, or lowered by setting a hidden preference. Assuming you've done neither, you may be able to solve the problem temporarily by stopping and restarting file sharing in the Sharing preference pane, or permanently by setting another hidden preference on the server to break idle connections quickly.
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool YES
Stop and restart file sharing. To reverse the change, run this command in the same way:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.AppleFileServer idleDisconnectOnOff -bool NO

  • ...connect to a shared folder on a MAC with director 11???

    Hi All,
I developed a project a few years ago that work as follows.
This was designed to work on Win XP, using Director MX2004
    Server Setup
All the media files where installed on a server and the folder they resided in was setup as a shared folder.
    Workstation Setup
A projector was installed on a workstation PC, along with the director projector, a txt file was install, the txt file contained the unc path to where all the media files resided. i.e. all director & video file etc.
The projector file would read the text file, get the unc path, and open the appropriate dxr file.
    This worked really well.
My question is, now I'm upgrading the software to Director 11, it is required to work the same way on MAC OSX. The only difference to the system will be that the media files will reside on a MAC server and the workstations will be MACs (Intel MACs running the latest OSX).
How can you connect to a shared folder on a MAC with director 11?
Its not '\\share_name'... should 'afp:\\share_name' work???
I keep getting the can't find 'myfile.dxr' alertbox
I hope I've explained myself well enough.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jason

Using a similar technique you could write the name of the mounted volume (just the name in this case, not the full path) to a text file and open it with a separate AppleScript app containing the applescript below. Note that any files you have accessed from the volume will probably have to be unlinked before Finder will be able to eject it.
    on open (theFile)
set theVolume to readFile(theFile as text)
      if (theVolume is "") then
        return false
      end if
      try
        tell application "Finder"
          eject theVolume
        end tell
        return true
      on error
        return false
      end try
    end open
    on readFile(theFileName)
      try
set theFileRef to (open for access file theFileName)
      on error
        return ""
      end try
      try
        set theText to (read theFileRef)
      on error
        set theText to ""
      end try
      close access theFileRef
      return theText
    end readFile

I have a similar problem. I have a Mac Mini Server hooked up to my TV. I want to use Screen Sharing to control it from other Macs in my house. None of my other computers can connect to it with Screen Sharing though. It works fine over any other VNC client, from any other computer, and on my iPod and iPhone. I've tried 4 different Macs in my house and not can access it with the built in screen sharing. Any ideas?

  • User cannot connect to backend system with user J2EE_ADMIN.

I am using Rapid Installer to initiate the second part of the installtion "ERP 6.0 EhP 3 – Self-Service Scenarios and Automatic Roles".  When I get to the J2EE User section to enter the parameters, the user is defaulted to "Administrator" and I enter my password.  I click next and get this message "User cannot connect to backend system with user J2EE_ADMIN."  Any ideas?

If this is a double stack installation, you need to enter J2EE_ADMIN as user, NOT administrator.

I installed an app on my imac using OSX Lion. The app is in the application folder of the admin account. The other standard users cannot see the app. Is there a way that they can use the app and see it in the application folder when they log in?

Then move it into their application folders as well.

other user on network has a desk top built by local company - non specificbrand - and is running windows XP.
we have successfully shared printers in past when I was using a desktop with windows XP
question is:   is the fact that we now use different OS causing the problem with printing?

    Hi @78Senior,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that you cannot print from Windows 8.1 to your HP Deskjet f4180. I am happy to help!
I would recommend to go through this printer is offline guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print: Windows 8. When you get to solution four make sure to select USB and follow the steps there as well.
    Hope this works!

  • I cannot connect to Home Sharing on iTunes, so that I can send movies and TV shows to another computer.  The other "library" does not come up in the box on the upper right side of the iTunes screen.  I tried disconnecting each computer from Home Sharing.

I cannot connet to Home Sharing on iTunes, so that I can send movies and TV shows to another computer.  I cannot find the name of the other computer in the "Library" box on the upper right side of the iTunes screen.  Do I need to have the other computer connected to the Cloud?

Mkae sure you have enabled Home Sharing using the same AppleID on both computers.

  • Library problems with two XP user accounts accessing music in shared folder

I'm sorry if this has already been answered; I have not been able to find the answer. My wife and I each have a different user account on the same Windows XP machine. I recently combined our iTunes libraries into the shared folder on the computer. I correctly pointed iTunes (in each of our accounts) to the correct location for the music files. I did an "Add Folder to Library" to make sure each account had all of the music. When I did this, I got duplicate listings of all of the songs that also had exclamation points. When I did a "Get Info" on these songs, I found that each song was correctly pointed to the correct file location. I laboriously deleted each "exclamation point" song one at a time (in each account). Now the problem I have is that whenever my wife or I close iTunes and the other person opens iTunes in their XP user account, none of the songs can be found. The best way I've been able to resolve this is to (unfortunately) delete the entire library, and do an "Add Folder To Library" to find all of the song locations and include all of the songs back into the library. Surely this can't be how this is supposed to work.
    So, my questions are:
    - Do I need to add new albums / songs one at a time to avoid duplicates (rather than use the "Add Folder" for the entire iTunes music folder again)?
    - How do I setup iTunes so that my wife and I can each go into iTunes in our seperate XP accounts and have all of our songs right where we left them (WITHOUT having to delete the entire libary and "add" again.)
FYI: I'm using the latest version of iTunes and (again) I'm using Windows XP.
My wife and I really want to each get a new iPod Nano, but if I can't trust iTunes... forget it.
    THANKS!!!

I have this setup at working. Two accounts with all files stored on a shared folder, mine is a network drive. Each account has its own library and can access all files. We also use one iTunes account for rare purchases.
This is how did initial setup:
Make a folder in the shared folder. I called mine itunes.
This is where iTunes stores its files.
With second account point iTunes at shared folder.
Import the folder you created earlier.
This worked for me without duplications. The only complication is that when importing from CD with one account the other doesn't know it. The other account must do import on the folder for the CD just imported. We keep track of this with a spreadsheet updated to show which account has which CD files.

  • External users cannot connect to RDS Farm (Azure).

    Hi Experts,
I hope someone is able to help me with this. I have search high and low, but have not found a solution.
    Here we go:
I have setup a RDS Farm in Microsoft Azur, consisting of the following servers:
KRPDC01 (Domain Controler / Active Directory / DNS Server)
    KRPSH01 (Remote Session Host #1)
    KRPSH02 (Remote Session Host #2)
    KRPCB01 (Connection Broker)
I have installed the respective Remote session roles on the above server and added my group of users to the "Remote Desktop Users" group on each Session Host server.
At first glance it seems to work. I seem to be able to connect to the farm with the first user. But most of the times, when a second users tries to connect to the same farm, then login hangs for a time, and the connection is refused with this message:
"Remote Desktop cannot connect to the remote computer for one of the following reasons:
    1) Remote Access to the server is not enabled
    2) The Remote Computer is turned off
    3) The Remote Computer is not available on the network
Make sure that the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."
Sometimes not even the first user can connect to the farm at all with the same error message.
I have looked into the logs on the connection broker, and something interesting shows up.
It seems that whenever the connection broker wants to redirect a users connection request to a different server than the one that recieved the connection request, then the connection fails. If however the connection broker grants the connection to the same
server as the request is comming from, then the user is logged in.
Here are the log entries when the connection fails:
"RD Connection Broker received connection request for user xxx\testuser.
Hints in the RDP file (TSV URL) = tsv://MS Terminal Services Plugin.1.KRPCLOUD
    Initial Application = NULL
Call came from Redirector Server = KRPSH01.xxx.net
Redirector is configured as Farm member"
    Followed by:
"RD Connection Broker successfully processed the connection request for user xxx\testuser. Redirection info:
    Target Name = KRPSH02
    Target IP Address = 10.4.3.7
    Target Netbios = KRPSH02
    Target FQDN = KRPSH02.xxx.net
    Disconnected Session Found = 0x0"
The a few minutes later this entry is found in the log:
"Remote Desktop Connection Broker Client failed to redirect the user xxx\testuser
    Error: NULL"
These are the log entries when the connection is successfull:
"RD Connection Broker received connection request for user xxx\testuser
Hints in the RDP file (TSV URL) = tsv://MS Terminal Services Plugin.1.KRPCLOUD
    Initial Application = NULL
Call came from Redirector Server = KRPSH02.xxx.net
Redirector is configured as Farm member"
    Followed by:
"RD Connection Broker successfully processed the connection request for user xxx\testuser. Redirection info:
    Target Name = KRPSH02
    Target IP Address = 10.4.3.7
    Target Netbios = KRPSH02
    Target FQDN = KRPSH02.xxx.net
    Disconnected Session Found = 0x0"
    And then:
"Session for user KASSERAPPORTEN\krptest successfully added to RD Connection Broker's database.
    Target Name = KRPSH02.kasserapporten.net
    Session ID = 2
    Farm Name = KRPCLOUD"
    And:
"This connection request has resulted in a successful session logon (User successfully logged on to the end point). Remote Desktop Connection Broker will stop monitoring this connection request."
If I connect to one of the other servers on the network - the KRPDC01 - and from there connects to the RDS Farm (internally) then there is no problem recieving the connections. Also connections where the broker has to redirect the connection to a differing
Session Host is completed without problems.
I have noticed than when successfully connection from internally where the connection is redirected by the connection broker, then I actually recieved 2 certificate warnings. One first from the Session Host that have recieved the connection request, and the
shortly after from the second Session Host (when the connection broker is redirecting the connection) and then the connection is established.
When connection from the outside, I never get the second certificate warning.
In Azure I have setup indpoint for Remote Desktop - TCP/3389 on both Session Host servers and on the Connection broker.
As mentioned I am at a total loss, and I hope someone out there is able to help me solve this issue.
    Thanks in advance :-)
    Regards,
    Daniél

    Hi,
Seems this issue is related with Windows Azure Virtual Machine, I will move it to Windows Azure Virtual Machine Forum for a better help.
