Other (yellow category) taking up more space each time I sync

When I sync my ipad with my the Other, yellow, category gets bigger. It is now at 7G on my 30G iPad. What is this yellow category and how do I get it off my iPad?

I did that and it has worked for now, but I would really like to know how to prevent this from happening. For now, I am okay. Thanks so much for your quick response.

  • Why are my apps taking up more space than what the appstore says they will? Like were talking a full GB more than what it should.

Why are my apps taking up more space than what the appstore says they will? Like were talking a half a GB more than what it should.
For example the app Modern Combat 4 says it should only be 1.58 GB on the appstore but when i go into settings>general>usage it says it takes up 2.0 GB.
Ive tried deleting the apps and then reinstalling them but they still take up so much more space.
This happens for multiple apps of mine. Some I have never even opened before.
    I have an ipod touch (4th Gen)(32GB).
I link to a mac computer.
    I have IOS version 6.1.3
I noticed this a long time ago but didnt need the space, Now i need the space!!
    Please help!!

Because you see the file size of the compuressed file. The file gets expanded when installed and that takes up more space. Also, data is kept in the app.

  • I updated to iOS 5.0. Now each time I sync the "other" category of memory grows. It is now up to 7.5 GB and I don't have room for videos.

I updated to iOS 5.0. Now each time I sync the "other" category of memory grows. It is now up to 7.5 GB and I don't have room for videos. I deleted a .3 GB video and the tried to put it back on. Now it says the memory is full. It seems to not release memory once something is deleted.

You need to restore your iPad now since "other" continues to grow with each sync. Something got corrupted when you were syncing and that is what probably caused this. This will explain how to restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
You can restore from a backup at the very end of the process - but if you restore from the backup and then the problem does not go away, you will have to restore to factory settings and then add all of your content back onto the device.
BTW ... Other contains all of your app data, bookmarks, contacts, emails, text messages, some game save data and things of that nature.

  • How do I create more space on Time Machine backup disk?

How do I create more space on Time Machine backup disk?

since time machine in Snow Leopard stops backing up when there's no more space on the disk,
That is has not been my experience, and does not appear to be agree with this Time Machine documentation:
    Backup drive fills up
As your backup drive begins to fill up to its capacity, Time Machine intelligently deletes the oldest backups to make room for newer ones (and will alert you if the "Notify after old backups are deleted" option is selected in Time Machine preferences).

It's likely that your Library database has been damaged in all the crashing.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • When I open a photo with Preview, it opens all the photos I have viewed previously.  How can I prevent that, other than manually clearing the list after each time?

Close the pictures before you quit Preview. Cmd-opt-q will close all windows and quit. cmd-opt-w will close all windows and not quit.
Or, Disable automatically opening files that were left open in General System Preferences

    Hi iprover,
Let me first say that I am NO EXPERT with anything Apple and really have only started looking into this iCloud stuff a few hours ago because I'm trying to help my mom free up some space on her iCloud. But anyway, here's what I'm learning and what I THINK might be happening to you.
Also, if any Apple support people (do they browse the forums to dish out helpful hints?) or people who probably know infinitely more than me about this stuff, please do chime in and confirm / correct my statements!
    This is what I gather.
iCloud for Windows is set up with a local folder (let's call it "C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream") where iCloud will store photos uploaded to the Photo Stream. This will allow you to view your Photo Stream photos on your PC.
This does not mean that this is a PC backup of your Photo Stream photos, but just a way to view your Photo Stream from your PC. That being said, the general Photo Stream rules apply: 1. No videos are on the photo-stream, and 2. Photos on the Photo Stream will be removed after ~30 days and/or after hitting the Photo Stream limit of 1000 photos.
My guess is that the iCloud Windows App will delete photos from the local folder that are older than ~30 days and/or delete all but the most recent 1000 items if the 1000-item limit is reached.
That is a scary thought! I really hope you did not lose all your pictures, but my guess is that the iCloud local folder is NOT meant for backup but instead is the iCloud Windows App's sandbox for updating and managing Photo Stream photos.
All that being said, I'd say it's important to back up your photos in a separate folder not related to the iCloud local folder.

  • How can I prevent the settings on iMessage from changing each time I sync the devices with iTunes on our iMac?

Each time I sync an apple device (iPad, iPad mini, iPhone) with iTunes on our iMac the settings on iMessage and phone settings change. We use the same Apple ID and have different e-mail addresses and phone numbers; however, each time a device is sync'd on iTunes on our iMac, the iMessage settings and phone settings are changed so that we all each get each other's text messages and phone calls. After the device is sync'd/charged, I have to go into each device (all of them somehow update when only one is sync'ing) and re-set the settings to what we want. How can I prevent settings from being changed each time?

Okay I've tried safe mode.  Let it run down to 98%, plugged it in, locked the screen, and waited.  A few minutes later, the screen came on showing the 100% icon at the top right, full battery icon just to the left of the time, 100% text to the left of that.
I'm not going to do a hard reset until I have confirmation that this is not normal behavior for the phone because that's going to take hours of my time and gigabytes of data transfer to get all of my media and apps back on the phone and configured.
After all my griping, I do have to give credit where it's due.  This phone is much more efficient than my Galaxy Nexus.  I left the S5 running in WiFi hotspot mode while on battery last night.  It still had over 50% left on the battery.  The Galaxy Nexus would be stone dead after about 4 hours.  I can live with that if I have to but I'd really rather be able to leave it on the charger at night.

  • Each time i sync with itunes, itunes creates a back up...

each time i sync with itunes, itunes creates a back up...
    how avoid it ?

Your kidding, right? You really don't have 1gb or so left on your computer? I'm surprised your computer runs at all with that little space left. You really shouldn't exceed 70% of capacity if you expect things to run normally.
Do this, get a thumdrive, copy your iphone backup folder to the thumbdrive & then delete the CONTENTS, not the folder itself from your hard drive. The backup folder can be found here:
    * Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    * Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    * Windows Vista: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\

  • I have the newest version of itunes 11.1.3.8. I have one song that i want moved from itunes to my iphone WITHOUT erasing my iphone playlists which happens each time i sync. please help

I have the newest version of itunes 11.1.3.8.  I have uploaded a CD into my itunes library. I would like to add one song only to my iphone. I have created playlists on my iphone and each time I sync all of my iphone playlists get erased and I have to recreated them. after the sixth time, I am very hesitant to do any kind of syncing. Is there a way to just move one song without syncing? I have read some posts that talk about this but have not been able to do it. For example, the "summary tab" does not exist on my version of itunes. I tried drag and drop on itunes as explained in their help section but that did not move the song to my iphone. Please help

You are probably running OS 10.4 or 10.5 on a PPC Mac.  No version of  iTunes higher than 10.6.3 is available for these older Macs.  I have the same problem, and while I can still use the PPC to sync my iPod, it can't be used to sync an iPhone 4 or higher.  The only solution, as I discovered after upgrading to the iPhone 4, is to buy a newer Mac.  I was able to get a 2006 MacBook running Lion for under $300, and that has been a lifesaver.

  • HELP! Why do my iPad Photos Scramble each time I Sync?

HELP! Each time I sync my iPad photos, my previous albums' organization scrambles (the order I've arranged my photo albums scrambles).
THIS IS WHAT I DO: On my iPad, I tap the PHOTOS app, then tap ALBUMS to see each of the albums I've created. I then tap EDIT in the upper right hand corner. I then painstakingly try to place all my many albums in the order that I'd like them to remain on my iPad. Then I tap DONE in the upper right hand corner.
However, EVERY TIME I sync my iPad, this order completely scrambles back to what I can only decifer is the time-line (order by calendar date) in which I created the albums. Aargh! So frustrating!
I am a Fine Artist (camille-engel.com)... I use my iPad primarily for work. I'd like my ART photos remain at the top for easy, quick access... and I'd like my 'family" & 'personal' photos to be at the bottom. This should be how the iPad photos app should function. Am I doing something wrong?
I look forward to your replies and excitedly await a SOLUTION to this frustrating problem. Thanks!

Oh... and just so you know I work from a MAC OS X, version 10.5.8 computer, syncing to my iPad.

  • Birthday duplication each time I sync to my laptop.

When I sync from my Palm Treo to my desktop with with windows XP there is no problem, but when I sink the same palm to my laptop using Vista it duplicates the birthdays in Outlook calander.  Each time I sync, it adds another entry for the same birthday.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Verizon)

I am no longer duplicating but, the duplicate birthdays are not going away.  I am manually telling the laptop to let the handheld override the laptop
and to let the handheld win.  Each time it completes I get a message that that there are notes in the log from the hotsync.  When I go to the notes,
it shows "HotSync sessin completed with errors on 7/30/08.  Each Outlook theme below like Calender, Contacts etc all say synchronization aborted.
The only successful theme was "Media".  These are the only notes in the log that I see.  Could this be the reason?

  • Why, when I sync my iPhone does it always take all my apps out of their neat sorted little boxes of twelve Apps organised by a commonality and rearrange them over a dozen screens in random order? Each time I sync, I have a 1hr long task of relocating apps

Why, when I sync my iPhone does it always take all my apps out of their neat sorted little boxes of twelve Apps organised by a commonality and rearrange them over a dozen screens in random order? Each time I sync, I have a 1hr long task of relocating apps.
Why no tleave them spread out I hear you ask... That is not practicable. I then have 12 pages to scan rather than just two. I need a solution... :-P

I realize this is an old thread but I'm having the same problem after upgrading my software today. Kinda surprised there are no solutions at all with 88 views.  I have an iPod touch btw, not an iPhone, but it prob wouldn't make much difference in this case.
The thing is, I get the screen(s) looking EXACTLY as I want on iTunes...just perfect (which is what I believe everyone else is experiencing as well).  When we go to sync tho, it does whatever it wants to do.  After syncing, all the apps are there, it's just that for me, it puts them in some type of random order.  I have 72 apps and this is absolutely ridiculous!
Thanks in advance for any fixes anyone might have...

  • Why can I not remove music and why are my purchased songs being duplicated each time I sync??

So I'm not sure if this is unique but I have a couple of things going on.
1st issue: I have a iphone 4s. Itunes on my desktop. Some music purchased from the desktop is on my iphone and I cannot remove it. I've checked "manually manage music". I've selected only the playlists I want. It will not delete the purchased music.
2nd issue: Each time I sync it pulls only the purchased music from my iphone and adds it to my music library. And each time it does that, it's adding another copy of the purchased songs into my music folder. I tried a variety of options, synced 7 times, and ended up with 7 copies of each purchased song. I've triedso many different things I'm thinking the only thing left is to do a reset. Or possibly reinstalling itunes completely. I've unchecked "copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library" and unchecked each of the songs from the library.Very frustrating!
Any suggestions would really be appreciated!

    Thanks, randers4.
Unchecking the individual songs from the iTunes music library does indeed remove the songs from my iPhone. However, this is quite tedious given the number of albums I want to remove. Isn't this supposed to be easier done by "unchecking" the Genre or the specific Album using the Devices/My iPhone/Music tab?
Does this work for you (or anyone else)? My aim is to identify the most efficient method of doing this.
    Thanks,
    MLawson

  • Each time I sync, the BBC iPlayer springboard shortcut comes back

A web shortcut on the Springboard, not the iPlayer app.
Where is the shortcut hiding within iTunes so that it doesn't come back each time I sync?

OK so we are talking about the Home screen Yes ?( never ever heard anyone refer to it as Springboard )
You have I assume the iPlayer app icon showing up on the home page screen .Yes
Do you actually know anything about how the iPhone works because you are not really making sense
