Others folder? update/restore error?

I had about 3 gb stored in my others folder and couldnt seem to get rid of it...I saw other people in these forums had mentioned to restore my ipod nano. I simply tried that, it gave me the error that it cannot be updated b/c some of the files are in use by another program, (error 1417) as well as unable to restore (1428) any suggestions? im feeling hopeless...although the next time i plugged in my ipod it showed my other folder as only 184mb, but will i have problems in the future updating?
ipod nano   Windows XP

From what I read here on the forums, this is a possible fix for any iPod exhibiting this behahaviour.
Did you try it at all?
Could you also take some time to pass some information for the Apple Engineers? Please copy and paste these questions into an email, make the subject of the email "iPod error report", add your answers, and send the email to Roy at Apple.
1. What error code are you seeing?
2. When are you seeing it (restoring or updating your iPod)?
3. Which iPod do you have?
4. What version of Windows do you have?
5. What Windows service pack do you have installed?

My iphone 5c says connect to itunes. It won't update/restore; error message (27) comes up. I also haven't backed the phone up since last year. HELP.

    Hi there owain11,
It looks like that particular error may be realted to a hardware issue. Take a look at the article below for more information.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

    Hi,
while update & restore error 1015, please help me in this issue

1015 error: There are 4 possible causes of this error:
The activation server truly is unavailable. Rare, usually fixed within minutes.
Your antivirus or firewall or router's firewall is blocking access to
    gs.apple.com on ports 80 and 443.
Your iPhone is jailbroken or otherwise hacked.
The computer you connected to during the restore/update was

If it has NEVER been jailbroke, here are some standard repair procedures:
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore (or it doesn't help), go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again.  Also, read this.

  • IPad update/restore error and itunes no longer recognizes device

I just updated my iPad to 5  today.  An error occurred during the restore and it is now stuck on the "connect to itunes" screen.  I have followed all the instructions to restart my iPad but now itunes will not recognize it.  When I follow these steps, the connect to itunes screen comes on but itunes does not start on my computer.  When I open itunes, the ipad is not listed as a device.  I've researched a ton of threads and have tried the following with NO success.
    Different USB
    Verified current version of itunes
    Verified & restarted AMDS
    Reinstalled itunes
    Temporarily disabled security software.
    Ran msconfgs
I am so frustrated that nothing has worked and my iPad is still stuck.  I wish I had never done the update.  Please help!

  • IOS4 update, restore error

While updating my iphone 3G it asks for a restore... but it won't, says an unexpected error occurred, error code 9. Tried different usb cables, different macbooks, nothing works.. My phone won't work ..
Anyone else have the same problem, even better, know how to fix this?

I had about the same problems yesterday while updating to iOS4. My error was 0xE800006B: this iPhone could not be restored. Unknown error. NOT FUNNY when you see that on screen for the first time. Xcuuuuse me????. Another error seen in the process was 0xE8000065.
    After a 7 hours I did this (I must admit by then I also almost gave up on my phone) ;
-shut of iPhone with top- and homebutton.
    -Open iTunes.
-Connect iPhone to the cable and hold your home button pressed. It takes longer than useual but hold on!
-Wait until you see the iTunes logo with usb wire on your phone.
-Keep holding on to the home button!
-Computer says that it has made connection to an iPhone that needs to be restored.
-Follow instructions on computer and it will immediately start restoring your software and firmware. This takes a few minutes.
-Hold on to homebutton until you see the Apple logo.
-And be patient....again! iPhone will come to live in a few minutes!!!
-After all this close iTunes (I downloaded a new version of iTunes) and open again and connect the phone. I believe I had to disconnect the usb cable once.
-DON'T restore your old settings because the phone will get back in the same loop as before and give the same error again.
-Setup as a new iPhone. (Unfortunately you will lose some dat in your phone such as text messages, foto's, music and notes. For example I had the Passwords App and lost a lot of important passwords.)
-Now it will synchronize to the agenda's, adressbook, e-mail and all of your Apps you already had.
-After lots of stressful hours I was back in business with my iPhone
-Good luck! I hope this will work for others too!
-I'm now going to make sure that Apple will hear of this.

  • IPad Syncing / Update / Restore errors...

I was trying to update my iPad to the new iOS4 Software and it starts the search for the update and after a while the Plug > Earth icon appears. I have the newest version of iTunes and this is the second time it has happened. Last time this happened I brought it to the Apple store because every method I tried to restore it didn't work. The guy @ the store just plugged it into his laptop and boom, it was fixed with all my old info on it in about 2 minutes. Any reason why I try to update the software on my iPad it keeps basically bricking my iPad? Again, I have tried every method out there when it comes to restoring the iPad ... Hold both home+Power ...rinse and repeat, no luck. Any ideas?

#9 is loss of USB connectivity, the other two are security software errors. Sounds like you may have third party security software that is not allowing iTunes to connect.

  • HELP: Error 14 when update/restore to 2.2

    Hi,
I've been unable to update to 2.2. Each time, it errors out with error 14. I'm on Vista running 8.0.2. I can shift-restore to 2.1 w/o any issues. I'm also using the original USB cable, and connected to my Lenovo T61p notebook directly.. Also tried on another Dell notebook w/ 8.0.2. I've also tried deleting the firmware that is already downloaded in the Apple folder. None of these work. Please advice. Thanks.

I've already tried deleting the firmware file per my original post. I don't believe it is trying to backup/sync at the same time. I can't be sure when I hit the UPDATE or RESTORE from 2.1 to 2.2, but once that failed with error 14, iTunes immediately said it is in RESTORE mode.
So, after that, I turned the phone off, press the HOME and POWER for 10sec and release the POWER button. This should put it in DFU mode. And then I click SHIFT-RESTORE and pick the firmware file. Same results, error 14.
When I don't do anything extra, just clicking RESTORE, it still results in error 14.
    I can SHIFT-RESTORE to 2.1 w/o any issues though.

  • Ios 5 update causing Error 1602 on ipad 2 - Stuck in restore mode

    Hi All,
Wondering if anyone experienced the same issue as me and has a fix.
Tried to update to ios 5 last night but got the 1602 error. ipad 2 is now in restore mode. For the remainder of last night I was unable to get the laptop (running XP) to detect the ipad. Finally got it to detect it this morning and it steps through the process but I keep getting the 1602 error.
I have disabled all anti-virus software and tried 2 different USB cables in different USB ports with no improvement. Have also moved the iPad2,2_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw to another folder to force it to redownload, which it did but got the same error again.
Any suggestions on next steps would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    chris

Go to to your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder in the Finder and then enter  Time Machine.  Go back to the last backup that has the domain file, select it and use the Restore button.

  • I have had error 4004, 4013 and 4014 messages since trying to update/restore my iphone 5c. It went a bit crazy after I tried the latest OS update and won't turn on.  Any ideas?

My Iphone 5c will not turn on/freezes since I tried to install the new OS on it.  I've tried itunes updates and restore but get a string of 4004, 4013 and 4014 messages while trying to correct it.  I'm wondering if it's even possibly turning itself off as the system tries to correct.  Does anybody have any ideas.  My use of the phone is fairly modest and it's not taken any knocks, been around water etc...

  • Updated IPhone 4 to IOS5 Restore Error (-50)

Last night I updated the os to 5 on my iphone 4 using my pc (o/s windows vista), using itunes 10.5 . Now I have lost all data from the end of july as that was the last back up until the one I did just before I updated my phone last night.
Initally I had a problem with it not registering my phone on itunes, saying it was synced to another computer, I ignored that and it went away and registered my phone. It has updated everything since, but it will not restore any of the contacts, photos or messages since July.
    I have tried
    1) restarting the laptop and restarting itunes, no difference
    2) Several attempts at restoring when it prompts when connected to itunes, each time ending in error code (-50)
    3) have been through all the trouble shooting relating to error code (-50)
    4) several manual attempts at restoring via right clicking under the devices panel
Am literally at my wits end with it. Any further suggestions, literal step by step break down please as I'm no computer whiz.
Does anyone think a restore to factory settings followed by an attempt at updating/restoring would work?
    Thanks,
    Chloe

Any number of things could have corrupted the file, including bad space on the hard drive, etc. You can look through the system logs and see if you can spot any errors around the time the backup was made that might explain it, or you could run a surface scan on the drive to verify the integrity and try to lock out any physically bad space. It's unfortunate, but if the file is truly corrupt, there's not much that can be done at this point.
