Otterbox Defender: Is It Hard to Get In and Out of Your Front Jeans Pocket?

Hi. Is the Otterbox Defender hard to get in and out of your front jeans pocket? Thank you in advance.
Gbu

Doesn't seem "huge" to me. I carry it in my jeans pocket and have no problem getting the iPhone into or out of the pocket.

  • Can't get in and out markers to work

In Pro 7, I can't find the In and Out markers on some clips I've downloaded off Limewire. When I go File:New audio and record blank noise for a few seconds, the markers appear. How can I get the markers and trim down my Limewire clips? Thanks

I've seen a few times in the past what you are talking about. But, the in and out sections would fade in and out.

  • Getting into -- and out of -- Gnome

I've never been a Gnome user and don't really plan to become one, but I would like to install Gnome -- or enough of Gnome as is necessary -- to try out how Metacity handles current-generation 3d effects. I need a little advice, though:
    (1) Can I try Metacity without going whole-hog with Gnome? Or is it part-and-parcel of Gnome?
    (2) If I do install Gnome, how complex is it to uninstall everything later? Is pacman -R enough to do the job? I know, of course, that I can simply leave Gnome installed and chose not to use it, but I'll be wanting to get rid of Gnome and everything Gnomish after my trial -- unless I'm just blown away, which is always possible.
I currently have KDE4.1 and Xfce4 installed, and I don't plan to remove them.
    Thanks.

Well, I'll say this much for Arch. You can get Gnome up and running in under five minutes, if you have a reasonably fast internet connection (I needed 40+ packages).
As far as the Gnome/Metacity compositing effects go: they're, shall we say, understated by by comparison with KDE4/Kwin and Compiz-Fusion. Nice shadows along window edges, a generally more lush appearance than vanilla Gnome and perhaps than KDE4.1, plus some very basic Alt-Tab window switching with a little transparency. That's all I've discovered thus far.
Either they're aiming at a different target -- i.e., trying to be light on resources while intentionally downplaying the razzamatazz that you can get with Compiz and Kwin -- or they're just behind in their development. Since I have the choice of Compiz and Kwin, I really don't mind if Gnome moves along a different path. But then I don't know a thing about the Gnome roadmap for special desktop effects and haven't yet attempted to find out.

  • How do i stop the popup that says "...choose from thousands of add ons" or "...to get the most out of your browser, learn about our latest features". it bugs. thanks

i just downloaded the new browser

Hi Nancy………. thanks for the reply and suggestion. I’ve had a look and I’m afraid that’s not for me. I spent the best part of a year learning probably just 1% of Dreamweaver and building a new site from templates, so to even think about such major changes now is not an option. Thanks anyway. I need something that does not involve changing the code or templates etc. as I’ve finally got it all working just fine and I daren’t touch it. I have too much on my plate now writing the content.
With my current small site I have tried just turning off the router and this works fine for the browsers once you tell them to work off-line. But Dreamweaver persists in trying to load the ads from the internet and gets all huffy when it can’t. Is there not some simple way to tell it to just use the ads it downloaded a minute ago?
What about the local server thing? Would that work? Either as something installed on the actual machine I’m working from, or on one of the others connected to my router? How would that differ in what I’m doing now and would Dreamweaver actually give up looking to the internet for the ads?
    Regards
    Brian.

  • Getting those 7500 Songs on Your 30 GB iPod...

    Hello,
What is the best compression setting to use to get the maximum number of songs on to your ipod? I've got barely 20 albums currently loaded and I'm already over 12GB.
Being relatively new the iPod world what is the best way to import and transfer songs from iTunes to get the most out of your iPod?
    Powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Good point 20 albums, say 12 songs each , 3-4 MB each that is 240 songs and should be around 1GB at best.
12X that size are uncompressed AIFF files. A bad choice.
You can reencode them in place in iTunes to AAC by first setting AAC 128K, as your default encoder, select all these gargantuan tunes (show the size in the iTunes window - the 60MB files are them) then do "Advanced" convert to AAC, select them all first and let it rip. Then delete the AIFF files. Resync.
To the remainder of your original post you drag the tunes from where they are to the iTunes library, a green + sign appears, let go. From CD's use iTunes to rip the CD's. Set the encoder first, no more jumbos.

  • Otterbox defender case sometimes prevents touch screen operation

My Droid charge screen goes black during or at the end of a phone call and no amount of touching the screen or pushing the buttons on the phone anywhere makes any difference.  I have to take the rubber covering off and open the Otterbox case to get the screen to light back up.  Everything on the screen is exactly where it would have been without the case when I do this and I can close the phone conversation and get the phone back to the main screen, then put it all back together in the case again.  I could understand if the Otterbox screen was too thick to allow me to touch the phone pad keys on the screen, but why can't any of the external buttons override this for me?  It doesn't happen all the time, but enough to make it somewhat annoying, as the phone call remains connected until I get thru the process of removing it from the case.  Someone on the other end has probably been the recipient of some carefully chosen epithets as I struggled to get the phone call disconnected from my end, I'm sure.
I'm happy with this phone, don't get me wrong, but I need to know if anyone else has had this experience and how they are dealing with it.  I have to use the phone in my construction work, so the Otterbox is also a necessity.

Are you saying that removing the phone from the Otterbox solves this problem? Very strange, if so.

  • IPhone 5s and the Otterbox Defender Series

I had, and have still an Apple iPhone 5s. I purchased the Otter Box Defender Series for the phone for the same day. I liked both the phone and the box with the belt clip. About 6 weeks into owning the pair. I went to take the iPhone (in Case) off my belt. The clip on the belt broke (actually a retaining clip for the phone broke) BAM! there goes my phone about 3 feet onto my kitchen floor! I'm like Oh No! I pick up the phone and see no damages at all! Thank God for the Otter Box. But then I had to carry the phone around like a brick in my hand which was a pain in the wazoo! I purchased both items at my local AT&T Store. So 1+1=2, I figured I would just take my phone and otter box clip into the store and get a new otter box (I paid $50.00) for it. My local AT&T Store has been gret they (and Apple deserve i reviews in my mind. However, when I took it in the AT&T Rep told me they do not service or replace Otter Box because it is a third party contract situation. Then they advised meme how to get the Otter Box replaced. Every timeI put in the Web address I would get a prompt saying invsalid address try again" I'm kind patient, so I would try again every oher day to contact OtterBox with no results. This all started in March 2014. I went online and saw the diagrams nd instructions on how to send the otterbox back for replacement. At the time I did not have a printer so I drew the outlines as they directed. Now were into about July and I'm still carrying my brick around in my pocket. Finally AT&T helps me again and gives me a number to call otterbox. I did they emailed me back and told had some information missing on the form. I looked at the 6 photo's I took of the phone, otter box brokrn clip and all identifyers and said no way, all the information is there! I do not get rude with the reps they are doing the best they can and normaly it is excellent.. I told them I used to place orders and do diagrams and documents daily at my career and I knew everything was right! Finally they agreed to send me the otterbox.  So I carried the brick around again waiting and no Otterbox in the mail yet. I finally got tired of carrying the big bulky box and took it off. Leaving my slender and slick phone exposed to danger. Well as luck ould have it and still no box! in October- remember this started in March. I'm laying down on my bed and had soaked my feet in about 2" of water because I have "Plantar Faciitius" or basically torn tendons that don't heal from being in the Martial Arts for several years and bein an active competitor. I turned the cover over, heard plunk and said- that's right OH NO!! within 5 seconds I had the phone out of the water and was drying it off. It was dead. CRAP! If OtterBox had gotten off their butts maybe this would not have happened! So I try the phone again I get a glimpse of my screen then nothing. A friend told me put it in rice. So I did, I saw a little more of the screen and had hope .So I buried it in rice againfor two days. recharged it and SHAZAM! it worked! Yay for rice! The phone was able to make calls, text, do all it's funtions for about for days the n I went to sync it with iTunes. The screen froze with a lighting cord a dash and and arrow on the screen and that ended the iPhone 5s life. And I'm out $500-600.00! Still no otter box, so I went into a two year contract and got a Samsung GalaxyS4. Nice phone but somewhat more complicated than my iPhone, especially because it came with NO instruction manual and all the icons look different! So I was told about a shop in my city where they repair iphones. I took the phone there, a young petite Asian lady told me "two days", I said two days and  it will be fixed? She said like new! So here it is November 2, she had to order a chip from China but assured me it wold be as good as new this coming week. Any extra charge? No! Halleluhah. for $90.00 I get my iPhone 5s back with a guarantee. Still no Otterbox. So a friend at AT&T told me when I asked sbout the best box to cover a phone and they told me the "LifeProof" when I heard it was water resistant I said that's what I need! But I decided to investigate it on the net. and found this forum. So tell me is the LifeProof the one or not because half seem aggravated and half satisfied. It was priced high nut I found a lower cost outlet. Thumbs up or thumbs down gang? Thank you for letting me tell my story. MjS. p.s still not otterbox, although they gave me a confirmation number about a week and a half ago.   ....Wait til you hear the run around with the Behind The Head Blue Tooth that would not sync, was replaced by another at no cost, but the other cuts out and no one can hear me talk- so they said send both back we will send another. Forget it, three times from the UK to the US ain't woth it. Nice people great design, piece of garbage devise. thumbs down.

Whomever told you about this forum was wrong.  We are iPhone users trying to help others with iPhone hardware problems.  This is not a chat room and we are not here to discuss the best case for your iPhone.  As much as we sympathize with your situation, this is not the place for that discussion.

  • Should I use a Screen Protector with Otterbox Defender or Griffin Survivor?

I bought both of these rugged cases and keep hearing that the actual cases can scratch the phones.  Should I use a screen protector on the phone face and back as well?  I assume that may not fit in the cases if I do that.  Anyone have any experience with these cases?

I have the Ghost Armor (same as ZAGG's invisibleSHIELD) installed on my Iphone and my otterbox defender will be here today (anytime) I will let you know how it goes or how it fit as soon as my defender get delivered by FedEx.
Do you have the shield on the front and back?  I read they do not fit in the Otterbox with both.  I would bet one side may fit.  I think if you use a thin one like the Verizon site has (PureGear Display Protectors) on the front I bet it will fit.  I have the Survivor case and have not head a chance to try the shield with it.  I got the phone, and first threw it in that case.  I know what to get a shield on it if possible.  Please let me know if it fits.

  • Iphone 5 Otterbox Defender Case...Only Black?

So they are showing an otterbox defender case for the Iphone 5 on verizons website but the only color is black, but right below the description they show part numbers for the other colors.  Any reason they are not offering the other colors yet, they are all over the otterbox site already and i get a good discount here at verizon that i would like to take advantage of.

I preordered mine from Otterbox.  They sent an email last week and I ordered immediately.  I liked the color (aqua) and I got the commuter series (I had the Defender, but it is way to bulky for me).  I think it is worth it not to deal with the hassle of a store unless you live in an area where you think there will be a good supply.  Good luck.

  • Calling on all Otterbox Defender owners

    Hi all,
After waiting patiently for two weeks, I received my Otterbox Defender for my iphone 3Gs. I'm not sure if this is a design oversight or a production issue or none at all.
Please take a look at the side of your Otterbox Defender and tell me if you see a square "flap" on the bottom "oval" hinge where the silicone "wraps' around. I'll try to explain again, without the silicone on the otterbox, if you take a look at the sides of the plastic casing, you'll see an "oval" shaped prong that juts out of the sides; obviously, designed for the silicone layer to "wrap" around. Well, please take a closer look at the 3rd bottom one and tell me if you see a very small exactly square "flap" on the inner part of the oval ring. I'm not sure what the purpose of this "flap" is for? I'm guessing if the "flap" is not there for you guys, than it's llooks like "flap" was not cut out during the oval removal process of the silicone case. I've done my best to describe, a picture is worth a thousand words, sigh. Thanks.

    Thanks, Chris.
For a moment there, after initially reading your response, you didn't understand what I was trying to get at. But, after reading your response carefuly again, I managed to "tuck" the little "square" into the "oval" pieces on the side. Interestingly enough, when I was applying the silicone, the upper two ovals manage to tuck themselves in. In my case, and in question, the bottom oval one didn't and that's why I was puzzled as to what this "square" silicone pieces was hanging off. It was a matter of inserting it into the oval piece. Problem solved. Otterbox should mention this in their instructions.
After having used the Otterbox defender for a bit, I have one complaint. The sound port is a bit too tad muffled. In their design to cover the sound port at the bottom, it has effectively reduced the sound to a significant degree. I now have to have the sound volume at Max just to listen when I make a call using the speaker phone.

  • PLEASE someone tell me where to buy iphone dock that allows for otterbox defender case

I bought defender case ( otterbox) love its protection ( bought because first iphone 6 screen cracked/ owned the 4s and 5s and never ever cracked screen before this one!) small drop out of pocket, anyhow, none of my docks/cradles etc will hold phone now with otterbox case, I bought a Kidgi but it did not work, had to struggle using two hands to get phone onto it, and the cord kept falling out, sent it back.  So now, I have no idea where or what to buy as my new iphone 6 charging dock /cradle that will enable me to leave my otterbox case on ( takes forever to get that case off, good protection though) please tell me if you know where or what cradle/dock I can buy ( link if possible) Thanks

This was a kickstarter project project - they released a version of this and are now working on version 2 - its designed to work with most cases
( i have no financial interest in the company - i just supported their kickstarter projects)

  • Has anyone noticed that the Otterbox Defender case for the Droid Maxx is not manufactured correctly?

After ordering 2 cases from Otterbox directly, and having to send both of them back, I called a Verizon store and had them compare the Otterbox Defender case for the Droid Maxx to the actual phone.  They were surprised to note that the hole for the camera on the case (to the left of the speaker) was on the opposite side of the camera on the phone (to the right of the speaker).  And, there is no hole for the camera's sensor on the Otterbox case.

Then return it to an Apple Store and complain and if neccessary get your money back
