Ouch My Friggin' Ears!

I am doing the certified trainer course for STP in a couple of weeks and was working through the Apple Pro training book when I came across this.
When you set noise print on a mono file then open the noise reduction HUD then hit the preview (play) button in the plugin there is a HUGE blast of distorted volume from the right channel.
I was wearing Closed headphones at reasonable volume when this happened and am lucky to have not seriously damaged my hearing (although my right ear is still buzzing a bit).
Is this a known bug?. I can replicate it on my macbook and macbook pro.
Converting the mono file to stereo before proceeding as above fixes the problem but I don't want to convert everything to stereo!
If I am teaching this to a class there will be SERIOUS trouble if one of the students damages their hearing because of this!
Michael

OMG it gets worse.
This happens (for me) when previewing a mono file with any plugin. Here is wavearts trackplug showing its own meters at about 0db but soundtrack's output is a staggering +389db left and +578db right!
Imagine listening at loud volume when this happens. I am doing the train a trainer course in 2 weeks time so that should give me an opportunity to tell them about this directly rather than through feedback on Apple's site.

  • Recommendations on earphone purchasing?

    I decided to purchase another ipod (God knows why) and I was thinking of purchasing an earphone with it.
    For some reason the stock earphones just dont fit in my friggin ear so I looked up some earphones and found that there are some useful ones, though very expensive.
    The Shure Sound Isolating Series. Are there any alternatives or ones that are worth the price?
    I'll take ebay as an alternative if suggested.. :P

  • 1 word.....OUCH !!!!

    I'm not sure if this has come up yet but...i found another bug. when you set an alarm timer, or alert of some sort, the ringer and vibe will ring and vibe in your ear when you are on a phone call. anybody else have the same experience ???

    I assume that your OUCH!!!!! indicates that it was irritating to your ear.
    If that is the case, just turn off the vibrate mode of the iPhone. If it is also the ringer, then I have no idea how you might be alerted to an alarm with everything shut off.
    Of course the alarm also puts a display up on the iPhone screen but if you have the iPhone in your pocket while you are on the iPhone for a call you would not see the indication on your screen.
    Try turning down the "ringer" volume which will reduce any annoyance that you might be experiencing.
    I do not use the headphones but do use a BlueTooth Headset and I get the rings represented as a beep in my ear while I am talking on the phone or not when a call comes in. I too had to turn the ringer down.
    I would not consider this to be a 'bug'. I would call it a 'bug' if it did not operate as you described.

  • Error while running a EAR in SAP EP

    Hi Gurus,
                        I have a EAR file (project) which I am able to successfully deploy through SDM in EnterPrise Portal. Now, When I shoot the URL for that EAR. Its giving the Following Error.
    com.sun.rave.web.ui.app base.Application Exception: null
    I googled about this problem but their is no Answer to this,
    Thanks in Advance
    Somil

    Sounds like you're missing a library at run time. What is com.sun.rave? You may want to ask in one of the Java developer forums as I don't think this is a portal question...

  • Error while deploying Web Service EAR to weblogic 10.3

    Hello All,
    I am getting the following errors when I "Activate changes" on the console after deploying the EAR file.
    An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
    Error weblogic.application.ModuleException:
    Error port component:"StockQuotePortImpl" - wsdl port:{http://sun.com/stockquote.wsdl}StockQuotePortImplPort is not found in wsdl.
    The stack trace in the Workshop has the following:
    Caused by: weblogic.wsee.ws.WsException: port component:"StockQuotePortImpl" - wsdl port:{http://sun.com/stockquote.wsdl}StockQuotePortImplPort is not found in wsdl.
    I don't understand the problem. Is it something to do with the contextPath of the WS. If so, I have the <WLHttpTransport> element as a child of <jws> element and that has teh contextPath, port seviceURI etc.
    The WS builds fine and WAR/EAR created fine but I get this exception when I deploy.
    Any clues as to what is going wrong will be very helpful..
    Thanks much.

    Nevermind, I figured it out.
    I had to change the name of my JWS class (the one that implements the web service methods) and then it worked fine.
    Thanks to all who responded.

  • Error while deploying ear-file to J2EE via NWDS/SDM

    Hi everybody,
    i have a problem deploying an ear-file. I was looking for similar cases in forums, but didn't find anything. My application is developed by jsp/servlets. The deployment aborts with following error-massage:
    Caught exception during application deployment from SAP J2EE Engine's deploy API:
    com.sap.engine.deploy.manager.DeployManagerException: com.sap.engine.services.deploy.container.DeploymentException: Cannot update archive file Docsndownloads.warcom.sap.engine.services.deploy.ear.exceptions.BaseIOException: Error during replacement of substitution values. Reason: java.io.IOException: Stream closed
    I don't know what the reason could be. The application is running on tomcat. And I can deploy other applications to j2ee with nwds/sdm.
    Maybe somebody had or has the same problem. Or somebody knows the answer for the problem. Please help, points will be regarded. Thanks in advance.
    best regards

    Hi,
    The name of the data-source should match with the value of 'Location' in data-sources.xml
    ex: "jdbc/OracleDS"
    Can you give more details of your problem like how you are deploying?

  • Error while deploying EAR : TLDs not found?

    Hi all,
    I encountered this error while trying to deploy an EAR using the NWDS for Netweaver CE 7.1.
    C:\usr\sap\MIT\J00\j2ee\cluster\server0\temp\deploy\work\deploying\ohs.ear1239681726594\convertwarfile\FCKeditor.tld (The system cannot find the file specified)
    I doublechecked the WAR inside the EAR file, and I found that the TLD is indeed in the WEB-INF directory of the WAR. This is the correct place to put it, yes?
    Should I reference to it in some other place? or should I move the TLDs to a different directory?
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Rajendra

    Hi, bojidar.
    No I don't think there are multiple copies of the TLD in my archive.  I suspect the problem lies on the fact that I imported the WAR from my tomcat deployment instead of building the archive directly from the Netweaver Development Studio. Some SAP specific deployment descriptors probably wasn't there.
    I have switched to trying to deploy directly from the NWDS though, and although I still haven't managed to deploy successfully, the problem is now different. I'll post about it in another thread.

  • Remote creation of MBean deployed in EAR file : loader's ObjectName ??

    I am trying to implement a client which connects to the MBean server
    running in weblogic and then creates an instance of an MBean deployed
    inside an ear file. However, since the class files of the MBean are
    inside the ear file (and NOT in the "serverclasses" directory), it
    looks as if I needed to specify a non-default classloader when calling
    RemoteMBeanServer.createMBean(...).
    --> How can I determine the ObjectName of the correct loader (on
    runtime) ?
    (I am running weblogic 6.1 SP2 on Win2K)
    import javax.naming.Context;
    import javax.management.*;
    import weblogic.jndi.*;
    import weblogic.management.*;
    public class TestClient {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    String host = "localhost";
    int port = 7001;
    String username = "system";
    String password = "password";
    String serverName = "examplesServer";
    try {
    // get the remote MBean server
    Environment env = new Environment();
    env.setProviderUrl("t3://" + host + ":" + port);
    env.setSecurityPrincipal(username);
    env.setSecurityCredentials(password);
    Context ctx = env.getInitialContext();
    MBeanHome home = (MBeanHome)ctx.lookup(MBeanHome.JNDI_NAME
    + "." + serverName);
    ctx.close();
    RemoteMBeanServer remoteServer =
    (RemoteMBeanServer)home.getMBeanServer();
    // remotely create a new instance of our MBean, deployed
    in an ear file (NOT the "serverclasses" directory !!)
    String domain = "examples";
    String mBeanClassName = "basic.SimpleStandard";
    String mBeanName = mBeanClassName + "_" +
    System.currentTimeMillis();
    ObjectName mBeanObjectName = new ObjectName(domain +
    ":Name=" + mBeanName + ",Type=" + mBeanClassName);
    //ObjectName loaderObjectName = ?? that's my question ??;

    Atlast it worked. The problem was that in my ejb-jar.xml I was referring to 2_0.dtd. I have changed that to 2.1 and it worked.
    Older ejb-jar.xml had:
    <!DOCTYPE ejb-jar PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Enterprise JavaBeans 2.0//EN" "C:/jboss-4.0.1sp1/docs/dtd/ejb-jar_2_0.dtd">
    I changed that to:
    <ejb-jar xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" version="2.1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/ejb-jar_2_1.xsd">
    And it worked.

    When you say:
    I then copied the 10.1.3 Standalone OC4J to the Solaris 5.9 box which already has JDK 1.5 Update 12 installed. We extracted the OC4J to its own directory , set the Java_Home and the Oracle_Home environment variables and were able to
    startup the OC4J instance.
    We had some issues when extracting OC4J to its directory but there were no errors displayed on the screen ... Only when we tried starting up the OC4J instance , it started complaining about missing XML files .. This was resolved by manually extracting the XML's from the corresponding jars and placing them in the proper directories ..
    It sounds like you have some funky issues there with those missing XML files -- that is not expected or normal.
    Do you mean you copied the same oc4j_extended.zip to the server and unzipped it, or you zipped up the directories you were using on the Windows box, copied that over, and unzipped it?
    I don't know of any problems with Solaris, JDK5, U12.
    What about if you do this to remove any issues with the remote copy aspect of the deployment.
    1. Stop OC4J.
    2. Manually copy CISS.ear to /home/aplperdev1/ssp_java/oc4j/j2ee/home/applications/
    3. Edit the j2ee/home/config/server.xml file and add the entry to deploy the application
    4. Edit the j2ee/home/config/default-web-site.xml and bind any web-modules you need.
    5. Start the server and see what happens -- the application should be deployed.
    Also, what happens if you use the $JAVA_HOME/bin/jar to try and view the contents of the CISS.ear file?

    Hi
    I would suggest you to do the deployment of the EAR using NWDS rather that using deploy tool. for Doing this please follow this link for creating ,building and deplopying as ear using dev studio
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/08/51ec41b9a24f4a8359c61ae4a02db1/frameset.htm
    Anyways if you ar still tied up using deploy tool pleas cross verify that all the dependent jars (including jars which  NgoServerinterface will beusing internally has to be in the classpath . Would be great if you can post the stack trace
    hope this helps !<b>  please mark points for helpful answers .</b>
    regards

  • Cannot deploy EAR.  There are already active sessions

    Hi WebDyn Pro's,
    I'm running NW SP14
    Sporadically, I cannot deploy my WebDynpro app to the NW server.  In NWDS, I indicate to Deploy and run.  I get an error in the console indicating:
    <b>"Cannot log in.  There are already active sessions.  Session id 0 An administrator logged in via API /"</b>
    I restarted the server and the NWDS workstations but that didn't help.  I've had this same error in the past.  Usually it goes away.  I thought I solved it, but evidently not.
    On the NW server, I cannot log into SDM GUI either.  I get the same error.
    As mentioned above, this error occurs sporadically.  I can deploy just fine 50 times.  And then all of sudden I start getting this error, even though no one has touched the server.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi,
    Have you checked if anyone else is actually using SDM to deploy?
    There are some quite significant deployment tasks that my basis team perform which will occupy the SDM tool for a long time and stop me and my other developers from deploying anything.
    I've also caused this problem myself when my SDM deployment has stalled - I've been deploying a custom B2B .ear file and the deployment has just got stuck in processing for ages.  In the end I've had to kill the SDM task from Windows Task Manager but this causes SDM to think someone is still logged in so I've then had to restart the SDM service from the SAP Management Console.
    If this is not the case I'd suggest raising it through OSS if you can't find any relevant messages on there.
    Hope this helps,
    Gareth Ryan.
