Ouch.

So I turn on my Ipod nano today, only to find a nasty white line in the screen. It's about a 3pixel thick white line going across horizontal in the center of my screen, It *****
My question is, I have no receipt, its less then a year old, is there a way apple would fix it?

go here http://www.apple.com/support/
and enter your serial number to the small box and press enter and it will tell you how many days is left for your warranty to expire so if your warranty is still valid take it to an apple store and they might give you another one make sure to back up your songs and other stuff you might have stored in your ipod

There are many ways and applications that you can use to build a web site. Which will be best for you will depend on the site you want to build and your level of expertise. Many experienced web developers just use a text editor, often one with specialized features for web programming (BBEdit, for example), but there are programs that can offer additional help, up to and including "drag and drop". Without knowing more about your needs, it's difficult to offer specific advice, but here are some possibilities:
iWeb - came with your Mac. Easy to build but rather limiting in what you can do.
RapidWeaver - more flexible and capable than iWeb but harder to use; sort of an "inbetweener" application
Dreamweaver - powerful but expensive and a steep learning curve
There are of course a number of other options. If you can provide more detail about what you wish to build and your level of experience, someone can probably make more targeted recommendations.
    Regards.

  • IPhoto 08-09 Imported 50GB... Got A 150GB Library. Ouch.

    I am a switcher.
I have all of my images on an external firewire drive attached to my PC.
I attached it to my new MBP and imported my 50GB of images.
My MBP has a 320GB drive.
    The iPhoto library is 150GB.
    Ouch!
    Questions:
    1. Why did this happen and how can I rectify it?
    2. Should I use Aperture instead? How should I move the library from iPhoto to Aperture and decrease the size of my library?
    3. What application or utility should I use to get a visual overview of my primary drive? I have had the machine for a month and already need to buy an external drive... or more likely I am doing many things wrong.
    Thanks!

    1. Why did this happen and how can I rectify it?
That trebling of the iPhoto Library Folder does not seem right. I can see how - if your photos have all been taken with an auto-rotate tag - the library might approach double.
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right Click on it. From the resulting menu choose 'Show Package Contents. A Findoer will open with the Library Exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Examine the various folders - what's eating all the size.
    2. Should I use Aperture instead? How should I move the library from iPhoto to Aperture and decrease the size of my library?
If manageing the Library size is the only reason you have for using Aperture, then I don't think so. If you decide to go that way, just drag your photos into Aperture and trash the iPhoto Library. Remember though, that you can run an iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    3. What application or utility should I use to get a visual overview of my primary drive?
    Check out Grand Perspective.

  • OUCH Clean Up throws things around

    OUCH. Ouch!!
I just ran a Clean Up on my desktop which used to work really great and it is throwing things all over the place. I have about five or six icons that just got tossed to the other side of my screen.
any ideas on how to fix this?
    thanks.

I don't think OnyX will do a thing for this situation.
You probably could repeat whatever happened by creating a test folder and creating a bunch of test folders of various names without that outer test folder.  Then arrange those test folder in some way and use the finder Clean Up.  Watch what happens.
As for DragThing, below is how I set it up.  This is one of many ways but I've been using this since OS9 days.
Here's my DragThing dock when I am not using it:
It's hard to see because I keep it collapsed and transparent in the bottom left of my main screen.  Then when I click on it:
I have mine arranged as layered grids with a tab identifying each layer on the bottom.
Other possibilities are separate docks, tabs on top, dock is a shelf that drops below the screen edge and other possibilities.  Docks can be any size, any number of grid arrangements, and numbers of colors, patterns, and animinations, and items can be easily added, moved, renamed, etc.  It's very flexible.
Given how long the author has been working on this utility you can be sure it is solid and has been evolving literally for decades.

  • 1 word.....OUCH !!!!

I'm not sure if this has come up yet but...i found another bug. when you set an alarm timer, or alert of some sort, the ringer and vibe will ring and vibe in your ear when you are on a phone call. anybody else have the same experience ???

I assume that your OUCH!!!!! indicates that it was irritating to your ear.
If that is the case, just turn off the vibrate mode of the iPhone. If it is also the ringer, then I have no idea how you might be alerted to an alarm with everything shut off.
Of course the alarm also puts a display up on the iPhone screen but if you have the iPhone in your pocket while you are on the iPhone for a call you would not see the indication on your screen.
Try turning down the "ringer" volume which will reduce any annoyance that you might be experiencing.
I do not use the headphones but do use a BlueTooth Headset and I get the rings represented as a beep in my ear while I am talking on the phone or not when a call comes in. I too had to turn the ringer down.
I would not consider this to be a 'bug'. I would call it a 'bug' if it did not operate as you described.

I was working with a support person at Constant Connect, and to solve a problem I was having, she suggested I hit Command+4+up arrow. I did. All the text in the article I was viewing became tiny, tiny. I now can't get out of this setting.

    Hi, Tim...
Command + 0 didn't solve my problem. But Option + 0 did. (Us Mac people have to be different, huh?)
Thanks so much for getting me onto the right road!

  • Hard Disk Failure, No Backup,  OUCH!

I have suffered a fatal hard disk failure on one of my drives and I had to buy a new disk. Due to the nature of the striping RAID-0 array I use the other disk is rendered useless and I lost everything. Must reformat and reload software which is a lot of work but is at least possible. That operation is ongoing as we speak. It's the lost data that really hurts. Lesson learned. Conduct regular backups. "OK ComputerGods, I hear you now...I repent."
Here's my problem for this forum. I had roughly 2,500 songs on my iTunes which were ripped from my own CDs. The ripping operation took a lot of time and energy to do. Like I said I don't have a computer backup of those songs. I still have the CDs of course but I would like to avoid spending all that time and effort ripping again. I need to move my iTunes account to the new disk anyway and I'm not sure exactly how to procede and more importantly I have no idea how to retrieve the (ripped) songs from my iPod and get them back onto the new disk. I already know that I can simply reload the music I bought on iTunes. That's not the issue. It's the 2,500 or so songs I ripped that I don't want to lose.
    So my questions are:
    1) How to move iTunes account to (basically a new machine) without starting from scratch?
    2) How to salvage the ripped music I already have on my iPod and get it back onto my computer?

*How to salvage the ripped music I already have on my iPod and get it back onto my computer?*
iTunes has an option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads etc) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
    iTunes & iPod software
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)

iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

  • Cannot Pre order and charge to the account...ouch (bound to happen)

Will this put a hamper in peoples plans to pre order the iphone next week?  Esp those paying full retail? Well not I, thats for sure.

I'm pretty sure as long as the amount is not over the amount you're allowed to bill to your account this wouldn't be a problem. Last August I purchased 2 blackberry storm 2's and billed them to my account without a problem at all. I think the total billed to my account by the time I billed the phones and accessories was around 550 or something like that. I have 5 lines on my account so I believe it's around 700 per billing cycle that I'm allowed to bill to my account. However, I had no intentions of billing the iphone to my account, but I would think it should work the same as any other phone if your account is able to be billed to I would see no reason they wouldn't let you bill the iphone to it. In fact I just ordered iphone accessories from Verizon about 15 minutes ago and did use the bill to my account option without a problem at all.

  • Ouch, Windows JDK 1.4.2_02 installer bug!

The offline installer keeps telling me
"A path with a semi-colon in it, is not supported for this product.
Please select a directory path without a semi-colon.".
However I did not alter the default path "C:\j2sdk1.4.2_02"!
Can it be Sun never tested the installer at all?
Or am I the only one having this problem?
I guess someone hard-coded the test to use the Unix path separator ":".
