OUI 8.1.7 doens´t start

Question

Hi all,
I´m trying to install the Oracle 8.1.7 client on Windows 2000 professional,
but the OUI doens't start. So, It don´t generate log. The setup.exe come down
after fews seconds.
Somebody knows about this scenario?

Why are you trying to install a hopelessly Paleolithic version of the product?You should come back on earth to see all the customers have not yet migrate to a newer Oracle version, and are stuck on old version because of use an old application which is no more supported, or the migration to as later version is too costly. And some companies don't want spent money on such thing because this is not the main business of the company.
That say, that's right Oracle 8i is (very) old, but I know some customers who don't want to change, because :
1. that works fine, so why migrate ?
2. that might implies to migrate application, because new versions are not supported on old Oracle version
3. that might implies to upgrade the OS which implies cost
4. that might implies to change the hardware
5. I'm sure you are able to understand by the 4 first points, this is a risk for curtomers, and all the customers' companies are not huge, and have other things to do for their business.
you are running into a Pentium bug most of us forgot about during the previous millennium.Some bugs can be forget, and the previous millenium is not so old. Are we dinosaur ourself ?
