  • Changing directory name of ORACLE_HOME in UNIX

Whats the process to be followed if we change the directory name (any directory of ORACLE_HOME) in UNIX on the same machine. My understanding is after renaming unix directory we need to do relinking (relink all) and then run root.sh file.
Does it really require to run root.sh or relinking will do?
    Thanks!!

The "safest" thing to do would be to install (create) a new ORACLE_HOME.
    OR
"clone" your ORACLE_HOME to the new location.
I believe that Chapter 7 of the OUI documentation :
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16227/oui7_cloning.htm#BCGEJGAJ
may not be complete. There are a few MetaLink Notes on cloning the ORACLE_HOME.

I need to call Oracle OLEDB Provider "setup.exe" once I complete installing our product (using Installshield). I tried all different ways to do this and I have absolutely no luck.
    1. I tried calling LaunchaAppAndWait(SRCDIR^"disk1\\install\\win32\\setup.exe", "", WAIT) in OnFirstUIAfter event before SdFinishEx function and Installshield doesn't wait for Oracle Installer to finish its installation.

I tried to get window handle for each window created during Oracle Installation and waiting, this somewhat makes Installshield to wait but hangs once Oracle completes its installation and sequence of windows displayed can change during Oracle Installation if user clicks on back button which will make Installshield to hang.

Do you want to create a response file for the Oracle Universal Installer? That would allow you to do a silent install of the OLE DB provider.

  • Question about unzipping/installing two-CD kits and installation bug.

Oracle Developer Suite 10g comes as two CDs and as two download zip files. Because it's in two CDs, file conflicts are possible and in fact occur. The only conflict is with the [unzip-root]\stage\disk.label file.
I can think of several possible procedures -- (1) unzip to separate folder trees; (2) unzip first CD, install and look for instructions to unzip the second; or (3) unzip them both to the same folder tree and rename or overwrite disk.label, because they are not used. My guess is the latter. There is nothing about this in the OUI documentation or the product release notes or installation guide.
The actual install (Windows XP) fails with:
java.io.FileNotFoundException: D:\[install-root]\stage\Patches\oracle.options.ano.ssl.owm\10.1.0.4.2\1\DataFiles\install_fg.jar (The system cannot find the file specified)
This folder has a file named install_fg.1.1.jar, so there is a mismatch between the installation script and the actual filename (no assumption about which is wrong). I would think this to quickly become a known bug and a fix provided, but I cannot find any information. That's my real problem.
Also, when the install stops, OUI returns to the initial install page, but does not back out the partial install. I now have D:\DevSuiteHome_1 and _2 folders and corresponding folders on my start menu, each with only icons for the Universal Installer and UI Concepts Guide. Is there a good way to back out partial installs, or do I just need to delete what I can see?
Thanks in advance for help. Cross-posted to various relevant forums.

  • Oracle.swd.oui directory missing from 10G agent download

I downloaded Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Management Agent Release 1 (10.1.0.2) for SPARC 32 bit fle name GC10g_agent_download.cpio.gz from OTN and the agent_download/Disk1/solaris/agent/stage/Components/oracle.swd.oui directory is missing. I copied the oracle.swd.oui directory over from the Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Grid Control Release 1 (10.1.0.2) download. After this the agent install worked just fine. Thank you for using Greg's debugging services.

Please refer to the following documentation for details on downloadable agent. (you may need to concatenate the 2 lines below and place the url in your browser).

  • Install RAC 11gR2 and Apply Patches with OUI New Software Updates Option

Has anyone tried the installation with the New Software Updates Option?
I will install 11gR2 RAC Grid and I plan to do the following steps:
    1) Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patchset 11.2.0.2
    2) Do all the configuration with OUI
    3) Create ASM disks
    4) Install Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 Software Only
    5) Apply Oracle Recommended Patches 11.2.0.2.2 (12311357) and 12431716. (ref. MOS doc [ID 756671.1])
    6) Create RAC Database (advanced option) with DBCA
    With these steps:
Grid and ASM disks would be configured without the recommended patches, but the database will be created with the patches applied.
I would not like to do a "Software only" install of GI and then apply the patches because later I would have to manually do all the configuration steps.
If I use the OUI Software Updates Option to apply the patches, will OUI do all the patching and then let me configure GRID with OUI ?
Quote from Oracle® Grid Infrastructure Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux - Part Number E17212-11:
" Use the Software Updates feature to dynamically download and apply software updates as part of the Oracle Database installation. You can also download the updates separately using the downloadUpdates option and later apply them during the installation by providing the location where the updates are present."
I could not find more detailed information about this feature on documentation and MOS .
    Thanks

  • Help: OUI won't start for 9i on Windows 2000

I downloaded the 9i Enterprise Edition from OTN, then following the instruction created 3 folders (Disk1, Disk2, Disk3), unzipped the downloaded files to these folders repectively. But when I tried to run setup.exe from Disk1 folder, I got error message like
"The Java RunTime Environment was not found at ...... Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run. Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again."
I do have Oracle 8i on the same machine, and my JDK is version 1.4.1. I tried to uninstall my current jdk and still got the same error message. I tried to remove all the jdk path entries from my evironmental variables, that didn't fix it. I tried to stop all the running Oracle services, doesn't work...
    Please help!

    Thank you Peter!
When you mention p4-1.6, what exactly do you mean? Is this part of a documentation somewhere?

  • Using OUI for installing custom products

    Hi All,
I want to use OUI to install a custom product that I have developed. So i have some doubts regarding that...
    1. Can OUI be pointed to a new Products.xml file which contains the details of the new product installation.
    2. Is there some link, documentation, APIs to do that?
Any sort of help is appreciated as it is crucial...
    Thanks,
    SaurabhS

    HI user784664
I'm afraid that you can't do that. Products.xml can be use to perform silent installed, When prompted by OUI, locate products.xml in the installation source directory:
    i.e connectors/framework/10.2.0.2/1.0/source/Disk1/stage
Oracle Universal Installer to install Oracle products in any of the three following modes:
    * Interactive:
Use OUI's interactive mode to use the graphical user interface to walk through the installation, providing information in the installation dialogs when prompted.
This method is most useful when installing a small number of products in different setups on a small number of machines
    * Suppressed:
Use OUI's suppressed mode to supply the necessary information by using a combination of a response file or command line entries with certain interactive dialogs. You can choose which dialogs to suppress by supplying the information at the command line when you invoke OUI. This method is most useful when an installation has a common set of parameters that can be captured in a response file, in addition to custom information that must be input by hand.
    * Silent:
Use OUI's silent installation mode to bypass the graphical user interface and supply the necessary information in a response file. This method is most useful when installing the same product multiple times on multiple machines. By using a response file, you can automate the installation of a product for which you know the installation parameters.
Herewith the detailled documentation about OUI:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/em.102/b16227/toc.htm
But may be a request via metalink it should be possible to get more details about that question. Oracle is using the OUI API for Grid controller, CRS, ASM and RDBMS so why not with your product.

    Hi Walter:
    how r u?
Basically the issue is related when u apply patch 6640838 to upgrade OUI. If u don't do the following, u get into the error u described in ur post:
    1. Before u install patch #6640838 , u need to be sure to rename the OPatch directory under $ORACLE_HOME. Once u do that, u can proceed with the application of patch 6640838.
    2. Then after applying it u can download patch 6880880, in order to have the latest OPatch version (1.0.0.0.63). In this step, u just need to unzip it, and u will have a new OPatch directory under $ORACLE_HOME
    3. After that, u can go and do an "opatch apply" for patches 8533397 and 8644645.
And that's it, u will get rid of that messy problem.
I ran into the same issue, but just realized the step that was causing all the problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • OPATCH and OUI??

what is the difference between applying the patch between OPATCH and OUI(ORACLE UNIVERSAL INSTALLER)
Please guide me as iam a beginner in applying patches
    REGARDS
    Kumaresan

Opatch is used to apply interim patches, for example the Daylight Savings Time patches or the Critical Patch Updates. Oracle Universal Installer is used to apply patchsets, for example the 10.2.0.3 patchset.
Each patch/patchset has documentation that details which method to use.
See the following note on Metalink for more information on Opatch.

  • OUI not running

I have tried every documented trick in the book from defining TEMP env. variable to copying install source locally, renaming sym*.*; defining specific locations in oraparam.ini. What else would cause the OUI to appear to be executing and simply never finish loading? I don't get an error or anything. It simply goes away. If anyone has a checklist of tricks to make sure I didn't miss any that would be helpful but I'm pretty sure it's a bigger problem with the machine since I can't get the OUI for 8i,9i, or 10g to work.

Okay, this is starting to get ridiculous. My OUI still isn't running. As soon as I click "Next" while trying to install ANY Oracle component, the install application just unexpectedly quits with no error or anything.
I have Oracle 8.1 installed currently because an application I need uses it, however I would like to upgrade. Unfortunately, I don't see an uninstall option for 8.1 nor do my ODBC drivers currently work (I get a system error code 126). When running the OUI, I can check "Installed products," however nothing is shown even though I know Oracle 8.1 is installed.
I'm stuck. I'm about to just stick with PostgreSQL.

  • Issue with creation of custom layouts using SAP Help Documentation

    Hi Experts,
My requirement is to create a home custom page layout (using web dynpro) in Composite Environment. The default options available in CE are not useful for me. I set out to make a custom layout using the following this SAP Help Documentation: [          Creating a Web Dynpro Page Layout (SAP Library - Using the Portal as a Frontend)|https://cw.sdn.sap.com/cw/docs/DOC-102846]
I have followed the instructions and followed all the steps, yet I fail to see the application in CE. The custom page layout is not displayed neither in options and is not available any where.
Please let me know if anybody followed these steps and have got any success.

    Hi Ted,
Help content for the individual products can be accessed from here http://helpx.adobe.com/support.html?promoid=KAWQK#

  • ODT Installation problem with OUI

    Good afternoon,
I also posted this in the Database Installation forum.
I am not as familiar with Oracle as I would like to be, so I will be as specific as possible. Thanks in advance for your time.
I am on a Windows 2003 server with Oracle 9204 installed. I downloaded ODTwithODAC10202.exe from Oracle and ran it. It unzipped files to C:\. This created the "install" and "stage" folders.
I ran C:\install\setup.exe file. A command window appears with the following text:
    =============
    Starting Oracle Universal Installer...
    Checking installer requirements...
Checking operating system version: must be 4.0, 5.0, 5.1,
    l 5.2 Passed
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 2
    256 . Actual 65536 Passed
    All installer requirements met.
Preparing to launch Oracle Universal Installer from C:\DOCUME~1\!Admin\LOCALS~1\1\OraInstall2006-10-04_12-52-03PM. Please wait ...
    ================
At this point the command window disappears every time.
In an effort to troubleshoot, I navigated to the file path indicated in the output. I find the OraInstall2006-10-04_12-52-03PM folder. Within this folder are 3 subfolders:
    [diagnostics]
    [jre]
    [oui]
So I drilled into the oui/bin folder and double click setup.exe. I get an error message stating:
    Oracle Universal Installer
The Java RunTime Environment was not found at C:\DOCUME~1\!Admin\LOCALS~1\Temp\1\OraInstall2006-10-04_12-52-03PM\jre\bin\javaw.exe. Hence, the Oracle Universal Installer cannot be run.
Please visit http://www.javasoft.com and install JRE version 1.3.1 or higher and try again.
    OK
Okay so I looked at that error closely and noticed that it's pointing to the wrong path. Note the "jre" folder I mentioned (part of the 3 subfolders) earlier. I looked in the "jre" folder and there is a "1.4.2" folder BEFORE the bin folder. So javaw.exe is actually in OraInstall2006-10-04_12-52-03PM\jre\1.4.2\bin\javaw.exe and not in jre\bin, which seems to have caused the error above.
I cannot figure out how to fix this. A new OraInstall2006-10-04_12-52-03PM folder is created everytime I try to run the main install file. I am not sure this is even the problem but it seems plausible.
On a side note, i tried the -J-Dsun.noddraw=true switch that seemed to be the solution to other disappearing OUI windows. But that didn't work. I really think the issue seems to be in the wrong path reference.
    Thanks for your help.

I fixed the problem by creating a local administrator account, logging in as that user, and then installing the product.
I read one sentence on the hundreds of web pages I have looked at concerning this problem that said maybe domain level administrator accounts are the problem. The local seemed to fix it.
