OUI Hangs during Oracle 8i install on Mandrake 7.1

I have gone through all of the instructions I have found on this forum for installing 8i on Linux. I have downloaded and installed the JRE, created the oracle user, added the necessary lines to my .bash_profile, etc.
When I change to the /install/linux directory on my 8i installation cd and try to run ./runInstaller, the initial OUI welcome screen comes up. When I click on the "next" button, nothing happens, and I can't proceed. Has anyone out there experienced this? Any suggestions?

Which version of oracle ?
It works with oracle 8.1.6 and Mandrake 7.2
Hi have tested oracle 8.1.5 / 8.1.6 on mandrake 7.1 and Corporate and it works too

    Hi I need some help
    I am attempting to install Oracle 9i (version 9.0.2.0.1.0) on RedHad 7.1.The installer quits after selection is made on Installation Types window.
    Below is some additional information which may help to focus in on my exact problem:
    1) When I issue the run command I receive the following in the terminal window prior the OUI slash screen:
    [oracle@GQ3016RH71 oracle]$ /opt/Disk1/runInstaller
    [oracle@GQ3016RH71 oracle]$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall2003-04-20_07-12-30AM/jre/bin/java. Please wait...

  • Host hangs during bootup after installing Hyper-V Role

    My hyperv test box is a Dell Optiplex 980, i7, 8GB RAM.
    Due to small data partitions I had to rearrange the partitions on the disk.
    Before this the layout was like this:
    #1 primary WS2008R2SP1
    #2 primary WS2012 RTM Build9200
    #3 primary ext3, boot partition
    #4 extended
    #N logical WS2012R2 RTM Build9600, booted from #1
    #N logical WIN data partition with VM images
    System was booting from #3 into grub, which did chainload into #1, #2 and several logical paritions.
    Now the layout is like this:
    #1 primary ext2
    #2 primary ntfs, boot parition
    #3 primary linux-swap
    #4 extended
    #5 logical WS2008R2SP2
    #6 logical WS2012 RTM Build9200
    #7 logical WS2012R2 RTM Build9600
    #8 logical WSBeta1, empty
    #9 logical WSBeta2, empty
    #10 logical WIN data , now large enough, still empty
    #N logical several ext3 partitions
    First I installed WS2008R2, installed role Hyper-V, applied all updates. Everything looks fine there.
    Then I installed WS2012, system came up fine. Then the trouble started: first installed role Hyper-V, after several reboots during role installation the box is hanging with busy HDD LED. Not sure if there is actually disk activity. It booted up to the turquoise
    squares which are initially shown. But those white spinning points are not shown. After one hour I did a hard reset, installed WS2012 again and applied all available updates before attempting to install the role Hyper-V. But unfortunately same result.
    Then I figured this bug might be fixed with WS2012R2. So same procedure, install WS2012R2, apply all available updates, system comes up fine. Install role Hyper-V, several automatic reboots during role installation. Result: same hang with busy HDD LED.
    I'm not familier with the Windows boot details.
    So my question is: What debug data can I provide so that someone familiar with the boot sequence of a Windows host can see how far it got? Are there any logfiles written, and hopefully flushed to disk, to see how far in booting it got? I remember in the
    startup properties there are knobs for serial ports. I will enabled them from the WS2008 partition, maybe some useful progress log is written to the serial port.
    Over night I will let it run, maybe WS2012R2 recovers after a few hours.
    Thanks for any help with tracking this windows bug down.
    Olaf

  • Cannot connect to Oracle XE - install on Mandrake 2005

    Hi!
    Downloaded Oracle XE and attepmted an install on my home computer running Mandrake 2005. At first it complained about missing libaio so I downloaded and installed latest Fedora rpm. Without problems. Then it happily installed, although at one moment it complained the machine does not meet minimum requirements (only 217Mb memory, hmm why I thought I have 256?). It installed otherwise fine. I run configuration scripts - default ports, system password, start at boot - yes. So far so good.
    It created a shortcut for "Getting Started" page on my desktop, but would not make any menu items. OK, after all its not a supported distro. So I pointed Firefox at http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex and got connection refused.
    Checked. Process oracle-xe is running. I can start and stop it. Listener is up and listening. There is no firewall whatsoever - we're sitting on a dialup here. Tried to connect as root, no candy. Ahh, yes, I should mention that even if memory is lacking there is about 800 megs of swap and ample diskspace too, so other hardware req's should be OK. So everything is almost like it should. Except that I cannot connect. So can you tell me what else to check and what to try?

  • OSX hangs during boot or install

    Hello all,
    I'm writing this because I'm not really sure where else to post this at to get an indepth answer. Currently I have a dual G4 450mhz AGP PowerMac that I bought used. When I purchased it, it had 768mb of ram and the only thing it didn't have was a working hard drive. After putting in a new hard drive the system worked great when i intially installed OS9 and later OSX for fun.
    However I had to remove the 768mb of RAM because a client PC needed it and that took priority over my dual G4 at the time. Just the other week I purchased 2 x 256mb of RAM from Omni Technologies (omnitechnologies.biz) which guarantees working ram for specified Apple systems.
    Upon receiving that ram and installing it, I powered on the G4 only to find it would "hang" when booting OSX (10.3.9). The symptoms are as follows: When powering on I hear the normal chime and the white screen with gray apple logo appears. Seconds later the spinning progress indicator shows up spinning in circles as OSX is booting. However after about 5 minutes with no DVD/hdd activitity, the system then hangs. The gray apple logo changes to a gray 'prohibited' logo. It's the logo of the circle with the slash through it. Like the kind you see over no-smoking signs.
    I figured the hard drive was messed up and I decided to reinstall OSX cleanly. However when I booted from the CD by pressing 'c', the EXACT SAME symptoms above happened. It was at this point I started getting really worried. So I decided to remove the hard drive temporarily and boot from the CD just to make sure it really was booting from the CD. Unfortunately the exact same symptoms happened.
    Out of desperation to make sure that my hardware was OK, I decided to install OS 9.2.1 which installed and WORKED perfectly. I also installed UbuntuPPC and Slackintosh versions of linux which also installed and worked perfectly.
    The issue appears to reside with OSX. I've borrowed friends cd's of 10.2-10.3 and all of them will NOT install. They start to boot from the CD, but never even make it to the first window.
    Help!!
    Brad

    Actually trying one stick in each individual slot was one of the first things I did. Unfortunately that did not provide a resolution for me.
    Thanks for the links regarding the broken folder/prohibitory sign. I read those and they made mention of resetting the nvram and pram. I just did that a bit earlier today but logging into the open firmware by pressing Option-Command-F-O and typing: reset-nvram; set-defaults; reset-all.
    Upon the reboot and after I plugged the hdd with OSX on it back into the system, the resolution was a bit off as I figured. But this time there was no progress indicator. Instead only the gray apple logo showed and there was no response from the hdd or cdrom drive.
    I also noticed that the USB mouses red light went out within the first 45 seconds of booting. I swapped out keyboards and mice and the new ones did the same thing as well. I also tested the memory in an imac I have and OSX that is installed ont heimac works gerat with that stick of memory. I'm leaning towards the fact that the memory I have is fine, being that it was ordered from a company that specifically guaranteed it to work on macs of all kinds.
    Any other thoughts or ideas?

  • Oracle Install on Mandrake Linux 9.1 (Dell Laptop 600)

    I have a full install of Oracle 10G running on a Dell Laptop using Mandrake Linux 9.1:
    First I did an install of the OS, I built the swap file to be 2GIGs, the /oracle partition as 5GIGS and the /home partition as 25GIGS.
    I made sure to choose the Development packages and the Office packages, I did not choose any of the WEB and other stuff.
    As root, edit the file /etc/sysctl.conf. Add the following lines to the end of the file:
    kernel.shmall = 2097152
    kernel.shmmax = 2147483648
    kernel.shmmni = 4096
    kernel.sem = 250 32000 100 128
    fs.file-max = 65536
    net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 1024 65000
    As root, issue the following commands at a terminal:
    groupadd oinstall
    groupadd dba
    useradd –g oinstall –G dba oracle
    passwd oracle <supply new password>
    You then need to set up the new user’s environment variables. Edit the file /home/oracle/.bashrc and add the following between the “# User specific aliases and functions” and the “# Source global definitions” lines. In Mandrake Linux all I did was edit the /etc/profile file and add the below at the end. This way all users get the added. Works like a charm.
    ORACLE_SID=lx10g
    ORACLE_BASE=/oracle
    ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/10g
    PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH:.
    export ORACLE_SID ORACLE_BASE ORACLE_HOME PATH
    You can choose what you like for the ORACLE_SID: it represents what you will eventually call your database.
    Make install directories, In my case, for example, I did this:
    mkdir /oracle
    mkdir /oracle/10g
    chown -R oracle:oinstall /oracle
    First when you try to run the Universal Installer do the following:
    ./runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs (this gets you by the error on the OS)
    Then just follow the normal screens and at the end you should have a complete system. There is a bug in the installer and you will need to re-run the ./runInstaller and selct just the ISQLPlus* and it will then only re-install this package. It seems it misses it during the initial install. I also suggest downloading the Compaign CD and installing the APACHE and HTMDB using the same as above when running the ./runInstaller as everything else is already setup.

    Anyone know how to resolve this error and whether or not it is very critical to the oracle installation?
    Cheers
    Johnny

    Hi johnny,
    You should first check the hosts file to see if the correct hostname and the IP address are shown. You can also check if the "hostname" command returns the correct result. If everything looks good so far, then next check if command "nslookup" returns the correct IP address. If the nslookup <hostname> command returns error, you will need to talk to the Domain Name Server (DNS) administrator to correct this network configuration problem.

    hi John,
    we left the installer running overnight, but the install process has still not completed.Also it has not created any uninstaller files under the following directory:
    E:\APPS\Hyperion\uninstall
    what could be the reason for that?

  • Windows 7 hangs during install on HP Pavilion a Media Center 1320n

    Windows XP Media is currently on machine.  I tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate Edition.  When the computer rebooted the installation would hang during the complete installation.  I tried several times and the same thing happened.  I reformated the hard drive and tried to install the same OS using a USB flash drive and got the same results.  I reformatted again and tried to install Windows Vista Ultimate Edition and got the same results.  The only OS I can install on this machine is Windows XP.  Can anyone tell me what needs to be done to install Windows 7.
    I upgraded the Bios with version 3.24 before I began the installation.

    Another update in case anyone might be having the same problem..  Found out what the problem is.. But still have not resolved it.. I did another fresh install of Win7. Joined the domain and rebooted.  When it came back up I checked the network and sharing center.  It is showing "Identifying".  Start> Run> firewall.cpl .  It is showing Public network as my current connection. I unplugged my network cable and plugged it back in.  It now shows domain network. Log offs work fine.  After reboot it goes back to doing the same thing.  I tried with both DHCP and a static IP.  Both ways, same problem. So it works fine if the location is set to domain network but not to public (which i guess it automatically puts it in to if it cant identify the network).  Sometimes it will go to work network.  Logoffs take roughly 30 seconds compared to 8 min. on a public network or 2 seconds on a domain network.
    We do have a group policy that disables security center.  It will disable the firewall and other features when it is set to domain network.  But not for the work or public locations.
    The other policy we have in place is for Kerberos.  Kerberos is disabled by default in windows 7 but is needed for our SAP to work.  When we run a packet sniffer on the machine it is showing a lot of back and forth traffic with our DC and the protocol just shows Kerberos.  So my next test is to remove the GPO for Kerberos and see if that makes a difference.
    The funny thing is; I have a Precision 380 sitting right aside of it. Running Windows 7, joined to the same domain, connected to the same switch, in the same OU and it doesnt have a problem..
