OUI in patchset

Dear all,
When applying 10.2.0.4 on top of 10.2.0.3 . When running OUI from the patchset, we are getting the below error :
Installing a 10.2.0.x patchset on top of an existing 10.2 ORACLE_HOME fails with the following error:
OUI-10150 Error: Variable s_patchprodLocation cannot be empty in component Oracle Notification Service Patch 10.2.0.2.0.
Installation cannot continue for this component
Referring note : S_patchprodlocation Cannot Be Empty In Ons during install of 10.2.x patchset [ID 740300.1]
the solution is :
1. Remove the ORACLE_HOME via the OUI.
2. Reinstall 10.2 via the OUI from media or download.
3. Retry the patchset install.
I have a single oracle_home for 3 databases. I have some datafiles there in the oracle home and pfiles.. How do uninstall Oracle home now ?.. this will lead to data loss ?
Please guide

    Hello,
when I'm trying to install patchset 10.2.3.2 on OAV collection agent with OUI (previous version is 10.2.3.0 and patchset on server is already done), in window Product-Specific Prerequisite Checks are all checks marked as succeeded. After I click next, the following error appears:

    Does anybody have any idea?
    thank you

    POTENTIAL/POSSIBLE CAUSE:
Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) will throw the message due to reasons :
Oracle Software might be already on 10.2.3.2.Please start the sqlplus and check the banner for the version to make sure that the version of the software.
You might be applying the patchset 10.2.3.2 on a wrong ORACLE_HOME.
The Local inventory may be corrupted.
    POTENTIAL/POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
Make sure that you are applying the patchset on top of the correct Oracle Home.

    % OPatch lsinventory -detail
( if local inventory is corrupted, the only ways is to reinstall the software)

    Unable to connect to opmn.
Opmn may not be up.it means OPMN is already down. You can do
opmnctl status to check status of components.
if all are down then you are good to move on to next step.

  • Unable to install patchset 10.2.0.3 on XP - wants me to stop ALL services

    Hi,
I am unable to install patchset 10.2.0.3 on our existing OWB installations (patchset 10.2.0.2) already installed.
I get an error message saying that certain files are in use and that I should stop the "following services". It then proceeds to list every running service!!
I have tried installing OWB with the 10.2.0.2 patchset and then I am able to install the 10.2.0.3 one but that is not a viable solution as I already have several users with OWB 10.2.0.2 installed on their machines and they need to patched to 10.2.0.3 ASAP. I really don't want to have to uninstall OWB from their machines and reinstall it.
So, what's going on? Why does the OUI say it wants every Windows service to be stopped?

I think this problem is caused by one or several MS Windows services (maybe MSDTC?). OUI cannot identify exact service name which locks Oracle file(s) and show all services in list.
There are several notes on Metalink about this problem:
Note:356181.1 "Errors about files being in use, when applying a patch."
Note:402546.1 "How To Specify Which OCI.DLL The MS DTC PROCESS Uses"
    Note:198699.1 "Access denied on OCIW32.DLL when removing 9iAS Release 1 (1.0.2) installation"
Note:232827.1 "Universal Installer can not replace the oci.dll Error when install/deinstall Oracle Products"
Note:294350.1 "Write Errors, or Files In Use, or NoServicesForProcessException During Patch Installation"
Try to change registry value HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/MSDTC/MTxOCI/OracleOciLib to nonexistent file name (for example xxx.dll), restart Windows and try to install patch again. Please give a feedback to this recommendation, I think it would be interesting to all.

  • 9.2.0.6 OUI cannot write to its own installation directory

I would like to install the 9.2.0.6 patchset on a freshly installed 9.2.0.4_linux_x86_64 (AMD). The system is RedHat EL AS 3. I have installed j2re1.4.2_07 (because the Java brought by Oracle does not even start the VM ...) and edited the ./install/oraparam.ini to use our own JRE.
runInstaller tells me that all system requirements are met. But - alas - OUI says that it cannot write into the directory that it created itself (tmp/OracleInstall...). The rights matrix of this directory is drwxr-xr-x oracle oinstall, even if I set umask to 0000. There are several GB free.
    The last message is
: file or directory not found
What is going on here (or rather what isn't)? What file is OUI looking for?
Thanks in advance for kind replies

    Ivan,
the rights for /tmp were already rwxrwxrwt. Even if I remove the sticky bit, the error remains. I have the strange feeling that this is not a rights problem. Do you have any idea what
: file or directory not found
is supposed to mean? What file is OUI looking for? Does OUI 10.1.0.3.0 check for temporary files of other OUI versions (e.g. OUI 2.2.0.18.0 bundeled with Oracle 9.2.0.4)?
I think I will start from scratch: remove and reinstall 9.2.0.4 and then try the patch installation again.

  • OAS 10.1.3 PatchSet 3 on IBM AIX 5.3 installs a 2 year old IBM JDK - why ?

We're running OAS 10.1.3.0.0 on IBM AIX 5.3 and due to some crashing issues OSS recommended to upgrade to PatchSet 3 (so 10.1.3.3.0).
We originally were running OAS with IBM's SR4 of the IBM JDK.
Now after the upgrade to Patchset 3 (on a test machine), the ORACLE_HOME/jdk version seems to be the first release of the v5 jdk from 2005. It's SR nothing ... J2RE 1.5.0 IBM AIX build jclap32dev-20051102 java
It's 2 years old for heavans sake !!!! Not even DST patched.
What am I missing? OAS 10.1.3.3.0 is pretty much THEE most latest version of OAS Oracle has, yet it comes with a 2 year old JDK. Why? This doesn't sound right, why would a company of Oracle stature do this?
Are others experiencing this also? Why doesn't Oracle bundle a more updated JDK with OAS?

    It's not a symlink.
Oracle has a script (jdkfix.sh) and a procedure for upgrading the jdk inside OH/jdk. We went thru this on all our OAS 10.1.2.0.2 enviro's and 10.1.3.0.0.
One metalink note that talks about this is Doc. 272808.1.
Basically, you install the AIX jdk in the IBM /usr directory and then run jdkfix.sh which essentially copies the jdk over to ORACLE_HOME/jdk.
There don't seem to be any Oracle supplied patches for any OAS that upgrades the jdk. Which is a bit wonky.
Here's the ls -l from our prod OAS 10.1.3.0.0 install:

  • 10.2.0.2 Patch set noninteractively , OUI-10133

    Dear all,
I tried to install the 10.2.0.2 Patch Set Noninteractively,
    I ran runInstaller:
    ./runInstaller -silent -responseFile /app/patch/p45478
    17_10202_LINUX/Disk1/response/patchset.rsp
    and then I received:
SEVERE: OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for installation in this staging area.
    INFO: User Selected: Yes/OK
INFO: Performing operation for OUI Shiphome access setup
SEVERE:OUI-10133:Invalid staging area. There are no top level components for Linux available for installation in this staging area.
    What does it mean?
    Regards,
    Maria

Yes, you can. Choose a plateform where the 10.2.0.4 patchset version is the based released (MacOSX, Vista or Windows 2008), install it, create a new db, then export your source 10.2.0.1 db, and import into this new one.
    Nicolas.
PS: of course, if you want only the patchset to upgrade your db in place, then the answer is shorter : no.

  • Installing OWB patchset 10.2.0.4 fails

    Hi,
I installed OWB 10.2.0.1 on our server (Suse Linux x86_64) which initially failed due to the message "Error in Invoking Target Isqlldr of Makefile". This is a known issue and after reading and applying Metalink Note 317510.1 (subject: OWB Installation Terminates With Message Error in Invoking Target Isqlldr of Makefile), the installation was performed without further problems.
However, now i want to <strong>upgrade the installation from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.4 but the installation fails</strong> with the message "<strong>OUI-10091: There are no patches that need to be applied from the patchset Oracle Warehouse Builder patchset 10.2.0.4.0</strong>".
This failed when following exactly the installation readme, i.e. calling runInstaller without parameters, but it also failed when calling runInstaller with the parameters as specified in the Metalink note (because that is how 10.2.0.1 had to be installed).
Does anyone know how to get 10.2.0.4 installed? Any feedback will be appreciated! (Bonus points for fast replies;))
    Thanks,
    Ed

Oh, and this can happen when you are using the OUI in the Oracle Home instead of the one in patch set. Also make sure in the installer you have picked the right Oracle Home.

  • Cant find 10.2.0.3 patchset for oracle client

    Hi folks,
i have an installation manual for some program called business flex, it says that after installing 10.2.0.1 client for windows (2003 server); i have to upgrade to 10.2.0.3
but i cant find the patchset.. client 10.2.0.3 seems to be available for only vista and server 2008.
    some guys [here |http://oracle.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/oracle-db-l/10g-client-10203-patchset-1588346]
"Same as the dB server. And it's huge 852M
    5337014..."
but this one is not available for windows 2003! i cant find a way to upgrade client 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3 please help.

The Client on Windows and the Server on Windows use the same patchset.
The OUI only patches what you actually have installed.

  • Install RAC 11gR2 and Apply Patches with OUI New Software Updates Option

Has anyone tried the installation with the New Software Updates Option?
I will install 11gR2 RAC Grid and I plan to do the following steps:
    1) Install Oracle Grid Infrastructure Patchset 11.2.0.2
    2) Do all the configuration with OUI
    3) Create ASM disks
    4) Install Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 Software Only
    5) Apply Oracle Recommended Patches 11.2.0.2.2 (12311357) and 12431716. (ref. MOS doc [ID 756671.1])
    6) Create RAC Database (advanced option) with DBCA
    With these steps:
Grid and ASM disks would be configured without the recommended patches, but the database will be created with the patches applied.
I would not like to do a "Software only" install of GI and then apply the patches because later I would have to manually do all the configuration steps.
If I use the OUI Software Updates Option to apply the patches, will OUI do all the patching and then let me configure GRID with OUI ?
Quote from Oracle® Grid Infrastructure Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux - Part Number E17212-11:
" Use the Software Updates feature to dynamically download and apply software updates as part of the Oracle Database installation. You can also download the updates separately using the downloadUpdates option and later apply them during the installation by providing the location where the updates are present."
I could not find more detailed information about this feature on documentation and MOS .
    Thanks

  • Different information about patchset

    Hello,
customer told me that on the database is 11.1.0.7 patchset so I downloaded CPUJUL2010 (patch 9654987). It is only for 11.1.0.7 on linux x64 but it failed.
I found that it is propably due the different patchset so i have check in in database and in opatch inventory but there are different information.
So I ask you why and how to fix it. I dont want to apply 11.1.0.7 patchset again.
btw, they use ASM and there is everything ok.

I believe if you look at the opatch apply command there is a -no_sysmod option. Check into it....I think it will update the inventory without applying the patch again.
    Check it out.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/em.112/e12255/oui7_opatch.htm#sthref826
    Look for section
When you apply a patch and execute opatch lsinventory, it does not return the details of the patch applied.
    $ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch apply -no_sysmod <Path_To_Patch>
