File information: codecs MP42, MPEG Layer 3.

MP42 and MP43 are Microsoft video codecs. Not sure if the free VLC player supports these formats or not. If not, you can always try the Flip Player from Telestream.

  • 30G iPod doesn't play audio in movies or videos

My 30G iPod doesn't play audio in movies or videos... Can anybody help me?
    Thanks!

What is the source of the videos and movies? Downloaded from the iTunes store or did you convert them from other sources? If the latter...
QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • Create single file to play multiple mpegs - os x?

My Hitachi camcorder creates mpeg 2's - which I can play on the Mac (OS X - latest version) using the Mpeg 2 playback component. However it also creates the handy "playall" file which does just that. Any ideas on how to create one of these files or something that'll do the same thing? OS X doesn't play the playall file.
    Thank you.

However it also creates the handy "playall" file which does just that. Any ideas on how to create one of these files or something that'll do the same thing? OS X doesn't play the playall file. You can try loading the files into MPEG Streamclip as a set of multiple files, fix timecode breaks, and try using the "Save as..." option to create a single file. However, be advised that "muxed" MPEG-2 file containers have a size limitation which is supported by QT. So, since you already have the QT MPEG-2 component installed, you may also wish to consider converting your "combined" movie to a fully compatible QT compression format which is not constrained by such limitations.

  • The sound doesn't play when I watch videos on  my nano 3g

I can import the videos into itunes (mpeg), and then converting the selection for an ipod. I then put the video onto the ipod, but when I go to play it from the nano, the sound doesn't work. please help.

It's an encoding problem: iTunes doesn't like multiplexed mpeg video. Doesn't matter if you convert them or not, the audio will still be messed up. I recommend using a 3rd party video converter (like Nero Recode) that can handle all types of video (mpeg/wmv/mov).

  • Play multiplexed MPEG-1/2 files (in Quicktime?)

    Hi,
I'm trying to play some videos that are labeled "multiplexed MPEG-1/2". I don't need to edit, convert or anything, I just wish to watch the videos.
I have bought and installed the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component ("enables QuickTime to play files containing MPEG-2 program and elementary streams.   This version of the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component requires QuickTime 7.6 or later").
I have Mac OS X 10.6.8 and QuickTime player 10.0. When I open the files through QT, I get the message "The document “BA_90_29014.mpg” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands.".
I have also tried VLC 1.1.12. The file opens, and the first frame is displayed, but the image doesn't change and the audio doesn't play.
Any advice? Is it necessary to buy QuickTime Pro?

Unfortunately, your file appears to have been edited/modified on a Windows platform which means the targeted file has a number of problems: In the first place, the file is not properly terminated. While this may not be a problem for various Windows media players, QT is very touchy regarding such matters. For instance QT 7 will not even open the file. QT X seems to recognize the file as a program stream, but cannot play the file either because it is not properly terminated or because the audio and video data is of unequal durations. MPEG Streamclip (which basically accesses the same routines as QT 7) will attempt to open the file (probably because it considers the file to be a transport stream) but can't play it because the audio and video have unequal durations.
    BA_117_28288.mp4
To get around these problems, I demultiplexed your file to two separate paired elermentary streams (M2V video and AIFF audio). This has the advantage of re-sampling the audio while keeping the original video quality before re-compressing the data streams to a more modern compression format (H.264/AAC) at about 60% of the original total average data rate and thus reducing the file to about 74 Mbs. In any caase, you can view and/or download my modified version which is now playback compatible with both QT 7 and QT X multimedia players, as well as, other QT-based and third-party apps.

  • N8 doesn't play video

Hello! Just bought my nokia n8,great phone but I have 1 problem,it doesn't play video. If I try to open it I get message '' Unable to open file ''. Please help.

The codecs printed by Nokia are
H.264 (base profile, main profile, high profile), MPEG-4, VC-1, Sorenson Spark, Real video 10
Streaming: H.264, Flash Lite 4 (Flash 10 compatibility for video), On2 VP6, Sorenson Spark

Update: The iBook can play any 480p video and higher if I encode them with DivX and in AVI format. But of course this is not compatible with my iPhone 4. At least I can shrink my library now and get away from the full MPEG-2s. I don't get why I can't use Apple's h264 though. There has to be a setting I am missing. The sample Apple h264 videos from the days of Tiger worked flawlessly on my iBook when it was new so the CPU must be capable of decoding it. I really can't understand this.
Also, since I made my videos in English for my family, I had to create soft subtitles for my wife's Chinese family, and I can't get players like QT with perian or MPlayerX to sync them properly to an AVI encoded with DivX, they only sync well with the iPhone 4 m4v/mp4 formatted files I made. This is a real pickle.
So now I may need three or four copies of each video, LOL. I need to hardcode the subtitles if I want to use AVI to playback on older machines, and keep the mp4 file for the iDevices too, while keeping higher quality h264 videos for my American relatives...
If h264 is compatible with my iBook, what is the proper encoding settings? Must I dramatically lower the settings or frame rate? I can settle on 2 copies of each video that way. One iBook/G4/eMac compatible video that syncs correctly with my srt soft subs, and another version that works well with my iPhone 4 and iPad.
All in all, I will end up with more than 3 or 4 version of each video. On my late G5 dual core I have the full 720-1080p uncompressed master files. On my i5 iMac I have the h264 compressed versions for distribution, and lower versions for my iDevices. Now I need to keep either full MPEG-2 files for the iBook to play, or convert to older formats like DivX AVI for our family's legacy machines. I am running out of hard disk space quick now, LOL.
    Is there an easier way?

  • One song doesn't play fully on iTunes...

    Champagne Supernova - Oasis
This song, purchased on Google, won't play fully on iTunes, but WILL play fully on Windows Media Player and my iPod. It displays the time "7:33", but when I try to select the song for playing, "3:57" flashes before returning to "7:33". Looking up on the music player, the end time displays "3:57", and the song only plays up to 3:57 before skipping to the next song. Trying to reset the time stop option fails, as if I try to put "7:33" in the time stop, iTunes automatically forces the time "3:57" on it again. How can I solve this issue?
The file is an MP3 (MPEG-1, Layer 3) encoded with LAME 3.98.

But this one song I downloaded recently doesn't play it fully and stops/cuts out about 2 mins into the song on both iTunes and my ipod and my blackberry.
How can I get this song to play fully without paying for another copy and re-downloading??
    Thanks
Post in the iTunes Store forum area if you purchased the songs from there.  Since your issue is happening in all of your mobile machines, the issue is with the song, not your iPod, iTunes app or your blackberry.

  • ITunes doesn't play the next song, it just stops after one track.

I have iTunes 11.0.1. When I play a song in my playlist, I expect the next song to start as the first one ends, but iTunes stops and doesn't play the next song. I'm missing some sort of setting but what?
It's not a smart playlist, just a playlist of favorite music I've built up over the years.
    Mountain Lion.

Have the tracks become unchecked? iTunes will skip unchecked tracks, so if they're all unchecked, iTunes will play one and then stop. If this is indeed the case, re-checkmark the tracks - Command-click will select or unselect them all - and you should then have continuous playback.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes doesn't play wavs made on PC

I have backed up a number of PC files on a DVD and tried to put them on my iPod shuffle, using iTunes on my MacPro, when I realized that iTunes doesn't play them, so I can't put them on the shuffle. However, those wav files play alright in Quicktime on my Mac. Why not also on iTunes? Is there something that I have to enable, or some sort of conversion that I must do?
The files seem to load in the playlist, then they show in both the playlist and the Music folder. The files seem to be there, for when I Ctrl+click > Get info, within iTunes, it shows their size, sample rate, etc. It's just that they won't play.
Any suggestion will be much appreciated.

Yes, I have played almost endless numbers of WAVs in iTunes. These files have been created with foobar2000, PlexTools Professional, and EAC for the most part.
My PC is switched off right now so I can't play with NMP WAV files and iTunes, but I still think that if you simply use another program to reconvert the problematic files to WAV format again (a lossless process) with known good settings, the files will likely play in iTunes.
Also, it may be that NMP has created "floating point" vs. "fixed point" WAVs, and that would cause problems with iTunes.
