Our computer crashed, we replaced hard drive, and now we can't get Photoshop to open.

One of our computers crashed and we had to replace the hard drive. Now we can't get Photoshop to open. Since the computer didn't give us any warning we didn't get to deactivate Photoshop before the crash. I've been on the Adobe site for over an hour getting run around in circles without getting even close to finding a solution. Apparently, there are no living humans at Adobe and their customer care department consists of this "community" and a lot of redundant web pages. Decent customer service would be a nice touch for such a big company.

So sorry for your troubles.  This is a user-to-user forum & we're all just product users like you.  Unfortunately, we can't help you with deactivation/activation issues since we don't work for Adobe.

  • I installed on my computer the other SSD hard drive, and now'd like to install Photoshop and Lightroom that station and I do not the C drive. How do I get exchanged the installation location when using your Creative Cloud in your program.

Photoshop is installed on your C partition and how to get it installed on another partition now!

Heinonen Petri you can customize the installation location within the preferences for the Creative Cloud desktop application.  Please be aware that the Creative Cloud desktop application and many shared components will always need to be installed to the primary drive containing the operating system.

  • Music on hard drive, replaced hard drive and now library won't match up

I put all my cd's on a hard drive (9000 or so songs) and had a hard drive failure, so I moved all the songs to a new hard drive and now I can't use the Itunes library to connect with that hard drive, except one song at at a time.
Is there any way to get these two to communicate?
    David

Is the rest of your music located in a different folder? You'd need to know where those files are in order to add them to iTunes. If you're not sure of their location, try a Spotlight search. Are you not able to locate the files to add them to iTunes, or are you selecting them but they are not appearing in the iTunes library?
I have all the actual music files located on a external hard drive, but the itunes file name(s) are located on the computer. The problem started when I got a new computer and switched all the stuff over, and then got a new hard drive because the old one was making noises. I copied one hard drive directly over to the other and now am trying to connect the two so they talk together.
The fix you sent me semed to work great until I noticed that I did not have any music after the letter "a" (namely 1/36 of the music). I ried it again with another copy I had and lost that too. Now, I am working with the copy I had on the other computer, which doesn't have all the data, but does have most of it, and I can survive adding the other stuff later somehow by re-copying the music and getting the data over again, but I do want to somehow get the other 35 letters worth, if possible.

  • HT203167 Had to replace my hard drive. Now I can't get into i-tunes to enjoy my list (about 98 songs). Is my music stored in my old hsrd drive? Sorry guys I'm not real good with this comp. stuff. Just want my music back

Had to replace my hard drive. Now I can't get into i-tunes to enjoy or purchase new music. Are my i-tunes stored in my old hard drive ? Do I have to take my old hard drive to a computer store and have them placed on something called a flash drive ? I'm having the same trouble retrieving my Ancestry.com infor.

Yes, all you iTunes data are on the old drive. Get an external enclosure in which you may install the old drive in order to connect it to your computer and copy your iTunes data to your new drive.
Everything is on your old drive unless you copied it to the new drive.

  • I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

I lost my images from my hard drive and now I can not access them in Lightroom. What can I do?

Your images are truly no longer present on the hard drive(s)? Have you had your operating system do a search for them?
If such a search fails to find them, here's what I would do, in order
Look in the trash can/recycle bin
    Restore from backups
If you don't have backups ... well, why not? ... find a program on the internet called an "undelete utility" (free versons are available) and then download and install it and run it. If you are going to do this, then do not perform any other tasks on your computer except find the program, download it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), install it (if possible to a different drive than the photos were stored on), and run it. In the future, you will need to commit to making regular backups of your photos and of your Lightroom catalog file, no excuses.
If that doesn't work, but the thumbnails still appear in Lightroom, you can probably recover the thumbnails from Lightroom via a plug-in, but these would be low-resolution versions of your photos, if you really need instructions on this step, write back

  • Updated music files on my hard drive and now itunes can't find path.

I updated my music files on my hard drive and now iTunes can't find the path. too many to manually do. can itunes refresh or should i delete all itunes music files and re-import?

Once a track is in your iTunes library, you should not touch it except through iTunes. But I guess you know that now.
iTunes, to answer your question, cannot "refresh." If you re-add those files to your library, iTunes is unable to match them with the existing library entries, and will create a bunch of duplicate entries. This is a longstanding shortcoming of iTunes (and the source of lots of traffic on this fourm).
If there are "too many to manually" reassociate, then starting over, in the sense of deleting and then re-adding, may be a good plan.

  • I have been using pages for months and now I can not get it to open any templet or previous document to open?

I have been using pages for months and now I can not get it to open any templet or previous document to open?

A little more information would be helpful.
What version of Pages are you using? The latest is 4.1 with the update released on July 20. In Snow Leopard 10.6.8 you need at least Pages 4.0.5. If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. They must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
If you are running at least Pages 4.0.5 & haven't made any other changes to your Mac since Pages was last working correctly, the likely culprit is corrupt preferences. Go to HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences & delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plst & restart Pages.

go iTunes > preferences > advanced and temporarily disable the copy files ... when adding option.
from the file menu, choose add to library and select the folder on the external containing your content, or drag the folder to the automatically add to iTunes folder inside the iTunes folder.
when iTunes has finished the operation, go back to preferences > advanced and point iTunes media folder location to the external so that future additions to your library are put there. also, re-enable the copy files ... when adding option.

Press the Option key at startup and select the hard disk.

  • G5 Tower, replaced hard drive and now can not get it to work- HELP

My G5 (tower) crashed hard & after a trip to the Genius Bar at my local Mac Store I found out the hard drive was dieing.
The Mac person fixed some problem files & told that I could replace the hard drive. I bought a 350 GB SATA 3.5in hard drive and placed it in the second slot in the tower. I then used time machine & backed up the hard drive to the second slot (after I backed up on an external hard drive- just to be safe).
I removed the hard drives & placed the new one in the A slot. When I turned on the computer I had the ? folder. I turned off & restarted holding the option key and got two folders, one with a turn back arrow & a rt facing arrow. Clicked either did nothing. Does any1 know what I am doing wrong?? If so please let me know. Much appreciated.

    Did you reset your PRAM?
    command-option- p-r
Hold down all four keys as the mac starts up and wait for the chimes to ring twice. Then let the machine start up as usual.
If it works be sure to check your date and time settings (the system will tell you)
You can also start up from your system disk holding down the c key as it starts-- go past the language screen and open disk utilities from the menu bar run disk repair and then repair permissions. Set your startup disk to your new drive.
Hopefully that will take care of the problem.

  • My photos are stored on ext. hard drive, and now I can't see them

I recently moved all of my photos over to an external hard drive, and have been quite happy with the freed up space on my ibook. I have been able to view them flawlessly until a few nights ago. Our power went out, and then came back on (yes, I know I should have a battery back up), so of course the ext. harddrive turned off with unmounting, and since then, I cannot view my photos in iphoto. There is still the correct picture count registering, however in place of all of my photo thumbnails in IPhoto, now I am only seeing grey boxes in the same shapes as the thumbnails. I have tried everything, including unmounting the ext. hard drive. I am at my wits end and have been working too much to go into the genius bar.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jerrod

    Hi Jerrod,
A couple of things for you to try:
-Launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and choose to open another library. Navigate to the one on the external and choose it.
    -Delete your iPhoto Preference file
    Preference file
    -rebuild your library
    Try this:
Before doing a rebuild make sure iPhoto's trash bin is emptied. You can do this by control clicking on the trash bin, or from the menu bar under iPhoto.
    Close iPhoto
    Duplicate the iPhoto Library folder
Drag the duplicate to the desktop (hopefully you have enough room on your hard drive for the duplicate.)
Launch iPhoto holding down the Command and Option keys until you see the rebuild options screen.
Choose the first three options. If you were missing photos in your library, also choose the last option. Be advised that you will get a roll of orphaned photos and it might be quite huge. Most of them will already be in your iPhoto library, but use caution when deleting anything from this roll until you are sure the photos are still in your library in another place. It might be a good idea to share/export this roll of photos just in case you need to import them again.
Back to the rebuild, depending on the size of your library it might take some time. When it is done, hopefully your photos will be there.
You might see some unexpected results as I did when I did a rebuild. Photos had been moved to wrong dates, video clips had lost their duration info and some were even orphaned from the jpg pointer file. It took me some time to straighten it out again.
This is the reason to make a duplicate before you rebuild, in case you do not like the result. If you don't like the result, close iPhoto, then delete the rebuilt library and drag the duplicate back into the Pictures folder making sure the name is iPhoto Library. Launch iPhoto and it should open the library in the Pictures folder.
iPhoto 4 or later: Rebuilding the iPhoto Library
-Navigate through the iPhoto Library folder and make sure your images are still there and open when double clicked.
This is a view of how the iPhoto Library looks in the Finder.
It is organized by Year folders. Inside the Year folders are Month folders. Inside the Month folders are the days of the Month. Inside the day folders are the photos you took on that day. If you imported video clips and RAW files on that day they will be in an Originals folder. If you have edited any photo imported on that day, the original will be in that folder also.
Please get back with the steps you tried and the results.
If none of these suggestions work, you can create a new library and import from the old.
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!

  • Added a Lacie D2 Quadra hard drive and now I can't drag and drop...

    Hey everyone,
I was hoping someone could help me.  I just bought a new 1 Terabyte D2 Quadra external hard drive for me computer.  It is a Mac Pro desktop running Lion OS X 10.7.5.  I just attached the hard drive to my computer and set it up. and now I can no longer drag and drop items with my mouse on the desktop, in finder, or at all so far.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I need to do to fix it?
Note:  The setup assistant did not work with OS X 10.7.5 so I had to instead, use disk utility and erase, name, and format the disk (I chose the format as mac os x extended (journaled).  Could that have had something to do with it?

Yes, you have to format it with Disk utility - that is what it is for. So it seems you did that correctly - check back to make sure that it is the GUID partition scheme.
Do you have any LaCie software installed? Your drive needs nothing on it to work. First, try to just restart your computer - that may work (after ejecting and unplugging the drive). If it doesn't, plug it back in and you might want to try to run through it again (use partition this time > one or more partitions).
