Our imovies were accidentally saved as QuickTime movies. Now, they won't open. Neither program is recognizing the format. Ay suggestions?Ay suggestions?

Our imovies were stored in an external drive. The files were moved to drop box. We moved them back over to the external drive. Now, they won't open and look like quick time movies when you look at the file names. Neither quick time nor imovies can open the files, though. Any suggestions?

Just an update... A rep contacted me and we did a screen share. They were convinced that I wasn't full of <insert proper word here>. They promised to get back to me in a few days, and now? A few months later? Nothing.
Still no files. Still no correction... Still no nothing from Adobe.
The person I spoke to was kind, saying he'd make sure I got CC for free for a while...
Still though, no follow up.
Adobe, are you going to correct this or just let your customer suffer at your mistakes?

Thanks. I haven't mixed down the audio or checked the number of tracks in Prefs. Good points.
As far as a mixdown goes, I'll definitely give it a try, though I wonder whether or not the tracks will be recognized during mix down recording - given that you can't hear either of those segments in playback. Just have to try.
Re the preferred number of allowed tracks - I'll go check as soon as I send this off, but I'm not sure that applies in this case, since the two Channels containing the segments that are pinked out are not in additional tracks. I should have mentioned that other audio clips and segments on the same Channels in the SAME tracks ARE heard in playback. As are two additional track in the 2nd Sequence. It's only when the two sequences are joined that the pink tinted segments can't be heard. Within the sequence the same audio cuts playback as they should. Thanks again &

I was uninstalling some programs on my laptop since it has too much. I uninstalled QuickTime, not knowing it was needed to open iTunes. So, now, I downloaded QuickTime so that i can reinstall it. However, it said that it's "not a valid Win32 application." Before that, I tried to open my iTunes, but it said that it needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled. So, i did just that. I saw an old itunes setup in one of my folders. However, it was an old version, so it won't open. So now, as i'm typing this, i'm downloading the latest itunes in hopes of getting it right. What should i do? Can anyone help me?

You can install it again from mac OS dvd, there's a folder named "optional installs" or "additional installs"with a installer in there, simply pen that installer and select from the list QuickTime and that's all

I would like to use a video my grandson posted on FaceBook in my iMovie. I saved it to my desktop, but it will not drop into iPhoto. The format is video.php.html.

what you downloaded is no video (just some link to an 'internal website hosting the video'...
it's a bit tricky, to pry a video from FB's dead cold hands...:
click on the video for playback in your web-browser. (no need to run the full video)
replace the "https://www.facebook.com/…"
by "m.facebook.com/…"
the same site appears in a diff. 'look'…
right-click/ctrl-click on video, select 'download to'.......

Quicktime 7.1.3 Won't Open or Uninstall

Just downloaded the new Quicktime and now it won't open or uninstall.
Any page I go to that uses QT says "an error occurred inside the plug-in on this page" and then "the plug-in did not initialize properly".
I only downloaded the new version because the sound was static-y on anything I watched with the old version.
Now I'm completely stuck.
Please be gentle with the big sticks, this is my first time.

okay. when folks get that as a "standalone" error message on an attempt at a QT install or uninstall, it's usually best to completely uninstall QuickTime and itunes (if you have it) from the PC and reinstall again from a blank slate.
try the procedure from the following post (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove won't let you uninstall an application.)

I have the same problem. I'm using Mavericks OS and latest iMovie. Both downloaded last week. I save the movie into File (as directed) and QuickTime
will not open. I'm then directed to a page of formats which are supposed to be supported on which is .mp4. Any tips?

How to export an IMovie as a small file quicktime movie

I have searched and searched for answers or tutorials explaining how to export an IMovie as a quicktime movie that is small enough for emailing and posting to the internet. If I use the default setting my quicktime movie ends up being over 500MB which is way to large for sharing. I tried exporting using the "custom" or "compression" settings but don't understand what H 264,DV Pal, etc. means.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To get a movie to that size, you can 1) make it shorter. 2) make it a smaller dimension. Like scale it down from 1920x1080 to 320x240 3) Take away quality by reducing the bit rate, reducing the number of key frames, etc. 4) Reduce the frame rate from 30 frames per second down to maybe 15 frames per second. The resulting movie would be postage stamp size and not very good. Use h.264 because it compresses very well.
By far the best way to send a movie is to post it to YouTube or similar site in full resolution and then link to it in your email.

On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved. It's saved at:
~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac.

I right click open with, then select Quicktime, and click always use this or set default or whatever, but that dosent work.
The video cannot play in Spotify.

Try right-clicking it, hit Get Info, under 'Open with' select Quicktime (or whatever you want to use), then click Change All...

it's only possible with pop3 type email accounts not with imap and exchange
preference->account->click the account in question-Click advanced and set "remove copy from server after retreiving a message to what you wish it to be

Are you trying to open the backup files via the Finder or an application? If so, that's not how you should access your backups -- use the "Star Wars" display, per #15 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
How did you get your stuff on the new Mac?
It sounds like you may have skipped the offer to transfer it when your Mac first started up, created a user account, then used the Migration Assistant app instead. If so, that may be the problem; doing it that way means you end up with an extra user account, and can lose permission to files on other volumes, especially backups.
Please clarify just what you're seeing, and whether you still have the old Mac.

If you can prove ownership to the Macs, call Apple Care and request the Account Security Team.

Cropped an image, saved in JPEG, now it won't open

Using Photoshop Elements on a PC. I cropped an image and saved it in JPEG. Now it won't open, doesn't recognize the program it was saved in.

When you saved it, did you use File >> Save as ?
I ask this because you are the second person to say jpg, jpeg files are not recognised. When you post back please state your operating system (Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1, MAC) and PSE version number.
Also, if you can post the picture here please do so for us to try it on our machines.

Maybe the document is corrupted. Can you open other Pages documents? Preview may open it. Right click (or control click) on the document in Finder and Open With > Preview.
If that works, Edit > Select All, Edit > Copy. Then paste into a blank Pages document. Formatting may be messed up, but you will have editable text. Then Save (with a different name), close and see if you can open the new document.
