Our IT guy installed the new Adobe reader on my machine, but FF isn't picking it up and I don't have admin privileges to install it as a plug-in.

I just need to know how to get FF to "pick up" the new version of Acrobat Reader that is already on my computer. I got a new work computer, and don't have admin privileges to install AR as a plug-in on FF. The new version is fully installed -- just not in FF. I'm running Win7 and FF 18.0.1.
Thanks for the help!

Firefox should find the Adobe Acrobat plugin through a registry scan, which probably runs at startup.
I notice in your "More system details" list you have this, which sounds promising:
Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 11.0.01
If you check the following tab, is it enabled?
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Plugins category
If it's enabled, is the problem that Firefox still wants to launch PDFs externally? If so, you might need to change a setting here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box on that tab, type pdf and pause while the list is filtered. You normally get two or more entries and there are drop-down boxes on the right side to choose how to open them. Does that work?

  • After installing the new Adobe reader update I can not view pdf files on line. I an only view downloaded ones.

version is 10.1.3. Two of my friends are having the same problem.
my mac is OSX version 10.7.3  2.66 core 2 duo with 2 GB of 800 mhz ddr2

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
If you still have the issue, repeat the above steps using this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • The new Adobe Reader has lost many of my files.

The new Adobe Reader has lost many of my files.

    Hello Doug,
Updating from Reader to Acrobat should not have deleted anything from your device. This was just another update that changed the name and icon, and added some new features for Acrobat DC Pro subscribers. Everything else for our Reader users should have remained the same.
I have a couple of questions:
Were you logged in to Acrobat.com, and were your files stored on Acrobat.com? If so, you may need to ensure that you log in to Document Cloud (the new name for Acrobat.com) to see the files.
Did you delete Reader from your device before installing the new Acrobat app? If so, unfortunately when you delete an app iOS deletes all of the local storage that app uses. For iOS to keep your files around, you need to just let iOS Update, rather than our users deleting and installing fresh. If this is what happened, I'm sorry, but I don't know how to retrieve your files.

    Hey vgamborg,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
This article should help you troubleshoot issues playing sound from the built-in speakers. Try the steps listed, and I quoted a part about the red light.

Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
    Have a nice day,

  • How good is the new Adobe Reader IOS for fillable forms and interactive pdfs?

At last adobe reader for ios has been updated so now fillable forms can be completed on ipad/iphone but how good is it?
I've tested a form and reset form/print form and save as buttons do not seem to work.
Form submit seems ok, just wondered what others thought?
Also the new Adobe Reader IOS is now able to display interactive pdfs with buttons such as go to next page etc yet page transitions do not work? Again whats everyone elses opinion on the reader ios update?

My preliminary experience is that Reader does better with forms than with interactivity.
I've written a couple postings on InDesignSecrets.com about PDF readers for tablets. Here's the latest one:
Finding the Best Tablet PDF Reader
You should also check out PDF Expert (US $9.99) which handles interactivity better than Reader if that is important to you.

  • Where can I buy a larger hard drive for my late 2008, 15" macbook pro?  From reviewing questions and answers on the support community it would appear that having Apple remove the old and install the new hard drive is recommended.  But how/where?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can install the new hard disk yourself if you want to. You just need a 2'5" SATA II hard drive, which is compatible with your MacBook Pro. You can buy one at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ You can filter hard drives by computer, so press a "Click to view all...", choose your computer in the sidebar and it will give you the compatible hard drives.
There are different brands for the MacBook Pro. The most recommended are HGST and Seagate, which have good reputation. A 7200 rpm hard drive will give you extra performance

  • I tried to upgrade the new version for i pad mini but when downloading it just went off and told me to connect it to i tunes, so i did and now it says i need to restore it. Does that mean I will lose everything in my i pad?

In other words, the upgrade process did not go altogether well and the device has lost all its contents. When you plug it in, they will be restored from the backup.

  • When I try to move the new firefox icon into my OSX applications folder I get a message telling me I don't have permission. How can I get the new version of Firefox into my applications folder?

I downloaded the new version of firefox for Mac OSX.
I dragged the firefox icon over my applications folder.
A message window asked if I wanted to replace an older version of the application. I clicked "yes".
Another message window popped up and said I did not have permission.
    What now?

If you have problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the DMG file to the desktop
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
