Our MacbookPro began running very slow a few days ago. I ran disk repair, permissions repair, and restored the OS from the Apple server. Kernal_Task appears to be using excessive CPU.

I uninstalled all of the Intego products. I restarted the laptop, also ran disk repair and permissions repair again. Then allowed the machine to run with no apps active, just in case the OS was perfroming cleanup funtions. Results: No discernible improvement in performance. The kernal_task shows 500+% and the CPU graph shows 70%-80%.
There is one hardware issue: The magsafe battery port stopped charging the battery, so the laptop must be plugged in all the time.

How large is your HD AND how much space do you have left? When was the last time you repaired permissions and restarted your computer? Boot up from your install DVD and run "Repair Disk" from the Utility menu.  When done, restart back to your desktop, repair permissions and restart your computer.

Basically... Make sure you have enough Free Hard Drive space for your Mac to Perform as expected...

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

I have one paid mobileme account, few days ago I have done transition to iCloud and all my iDisk, contact... gone. Today I tried login to iCloud application on my windows pc (64bit) but I can not, it said "this apple id is valid but is not iCloud account". I can login on website icloud.com but can not login into iCloud application installed on pc. What's wrong?
I have tried another free apple ID and logged on. That's funny when I can login with free account and can not login with paid mobileme account!!!!!!

By the way - the only reason I downloaded iCloud is because Apple deleted the backup option from iTunes.  Since iCloud doesn't work, I guess we have no way to protect our iTunes music collection.  Absolutely stupid.

  • ADSL connection very slow last few days

I have also been having the same issue, and have never had slow internet speeds before these last few days.
I've tried resetting the hub a few times but that has made no difference.
I have also tried the BT speed test website but get an error after a minute or so stating that the test could be run, but it does not give a reason. I have in the past used this service without issue.

    Hi  ecm200,
The first thing I've noticed from your router stats is the connection time??
Did you just reset the router before you posted them, has the connection been dropping or do you turn the router off when your not using the Internet?
The last 2 points above will cause the speed to drop as the BT Server will see the dropping connection and reduce the speed to maintain a more stable connection.
The second thing I noticed was the Noise margin (15.8dB). This is slightly higher than normal (the best SNR Margin would be 6dB). This may be caused by the location of the router in your house. If you have the router connected to an extension socket, you should move the hub to the Master/Test socket and see what the speed is here.
Have a look at the following link for more info on this:
    http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13892/c/346
Obviously, you will need to be able to check the stats from the hub and moving a desktop PC may be troublesome so if you can either can connect wirelessly, or on a laptop with an Ethernet cable, you will be able to see the stats again.
If the speed is still poor, or the Noise Margin still as high as you have posted, you need to raise the fault with BT.
This is the link to email BT Tech Support and you have more chance of speaking to someone in the UK:

  • My 2010 MacBook Pro started running slow a few days ago and is getting worse. I have run a report with EtreCheck that I can post.  Can someone please help me figure out what's wrong and how to fix it.  Thank you.

Problem started after I unintentionally downloaded some adware 4 days ago. After lots of aggressive ads slowed down my browser I downloaded and ran AdwareMedic which seemed to do the job and browser was back to normal.  Then, possibly a coincidence, everything on the computer started running slower.  I've backed up everything and have run a EtreCheck report.

When you have the problem, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of it useless for solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

  • Since my iPhone update to Ver 6.1.3 a few days ago, I have been billed £0.65 daily for data access in the middle of the night. Why?

On checking my Orange Phone Usage, I find that most data access is free under the terms of my Pay As You go account, but daily there is a data access bill of £0.65 in the middle of the night when I am asleep. This has only been happening for the past few days since the iPhone software updated to Ver 6.1.3.

  • HT4718 I upgraded my OSX to Version 10.8.4 and all operations are running very slow, especially my online browsing.  Anyone else have this problem, and can undo the update?

I saw an update was available and trusted without exploring what was involved.  Now all applications are running

Start up in Safe Mode. Connect to your router with an ethernet cable, as your wifi may not work, and apply the 10.8.4 Combo update.

  • I installed teh update a few days ago but when I open Firefox it says :"You're not on the lastest version . . ", but at "Help" & "About Firefox" it shows 9.0.1 "latest release". There's a glitch somewhere.

This is the message when I Open Firefox:
"You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!"
    At <Help> & <About Firefox>, it shows
    Firefox
    9.0.1
    "Firefox is up to date"
"You are currently on the release update Channel"
One of those messages must be wrong. Either way Firefox seems to work fine otherwise. Thanks and regards, Peter Spielman

Is your homepage set to www.google.com/firefox? If so, that page is wrong. You should change your home page to about:home or some other site instead. The google.com/firefox page is no longer supported.

  • IMac running very slow; how can I fix it?

My iMac is running so slow, I can hardly use it all.  All kinds of spinning balls, etc.  I don't even know where to look to diagnose.  If I restart, it will be faster for awhile.  Both Safari and Firefox are running very slow...or not at all.  I have repaired permissions and hard drive.  I have dumped permissions for Safari and Finder and anything else that seemed involved.  I checked my memory....this is the report I got.  Does the fact that the first one say "disabled" mean anything?  I will appreciate help you can give me.

How full is your Mac's hard drive? * Capacity: 248.92 GB.   * Available:175.18.  *Used 73.75GB on disk.
How many applications do you run simultaneously in the background while working in another application?    *Not many.  I try to remember to quit open apps especially when the computer runs slowly.  I always have open Calendar, Mail, Safari.
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.    *I have an anti virus but I do not let it run.  I turn in on to check files and email now and then.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of so called hard drive "cleaning" apps? *No, I have none.
One thing I notice is that when I turn it off at night, it runs very well the next day until I've been on it for a few hours then it gets really bad.  Last night, it wouldn't work at all so I gave up and turned it off.  This afternoon I turned it back on and it has been working very well ever since.
Thanks for looking at this.  I have never checked my hard drive before so I didn't know how much it had on it, but it doesn't seem like it is too full.
