Our www mystery

We have disabled web and mail services since they are now provided by a remote host. Yet when a user on our OS X Server 4 network attempts to access our remotely hosted web site using http://www.domain.com, Safarie can't find it. When accessing it using http://domain.com it resolves correctly.
This is only a problem for a user when he or she is on our OS X Server network. www.domain.com resolves correctly outside the network.

What do you have your inside domain called? If you have your network called myworkplace.com, and your website is myworkplace.com that could cause an issue.
That's the problem. The inside network is called www.myworkplace.com. This appears to be both the host name and the Bonjour name. Looks like I can change these using terminal:
Hostname
The host name is a unique name that corresponds to a unique hardware MAC address. It is the name that the network uses to identify a device attached to the network. Use the serversetup tool to view or modify the host name.
To display the server’s local host name:
$ serversetup -getHostname
To change the server’s local host name:
$ sudo serversetup -setHostname hostname
To display the server’s Bonjour name:
$ serversetup -getBonjourname
To change the server’s Bonjour name:
$ sudo serversetup -setBonjourname bonjourname
The command displays 0 if the name was changed.
Network clients connect to the server using its private IP address, not these names so I assume that changing the names will have no effect on network services. Right??
Thanks for any replys,
Dan

  • How do I remove old web site when publishing new site with same URL in iweb? Hit replace when publishing new iweb site (so we could have control over changes) but new site name is attached to old via a / after our www address we want to keep.

I hit the replace when publishing the new iweb site (so we could have control over changes - last one was not an apple based site) but new site name is attached to old via a forward slash and underscore after our www address. Makes it very messy with a very long web address.  Original address now followed by iweb site name followed by name of first page? Went for iweb as not that computer literate - all going so well?! Cheers for help in anticipation. Have to get off to work now but be great end to week if we could be sorted tonight. Rupes

Well yes of course, if you try and publish through iWeb there won't be an option to publish without your site folder which is exactly why I told you to download Cyberduck and use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server having published your site from iWeb to a local folder.  That is what you need to do if you don't want your site name to be included in yoru url.
It would have been easier also if you had used Cyberduck initially to connect to your server and delete your old site yourself - at least that way you would have deleted the correct files rather than relying on your hosting service to do it and doing it incorrectly.
Download Cyberduck and then select the publish to a local folder option from iWeb and then use Cyberduck to upload your site to your server, but rather than uploading the whole site folder and separate index file, upload ONLY the contents of your site folder and then your url will be http://www.domain.com/page_name.html.
    It really isn't rocket science!

  • Can access all website except our companies dot com

    Hello,
We are running a OS X 10.5 server. Everything seemed to be working fine but I noticed that we're unable to view our our public website internally. Safari and Firefox both say that the website's server cannot be found. Our server name is azserver.aandzlaw.com and our public domain is www.aandzlaw.com.
Do I need to add a machine record to the DNS entry to correct this problem or is it something else?
    Thanks

Thanks. I was able to resolve my problem after reading this previous post
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2326199&tstart=240
I added a A record for my domain and pointed to its public IP. Now my users can view our www site.

  • How to get main website up when hubby pub'd his site on 2nd computer?

I've been publishing sites on my MacBook Pro to my domain name (thru Mobile Me) & linking my husband's sites to our one main website. Recently, he published a couple of his own sites, linking them through Mobile Me to our domain name, but now when you go to our www. address, it takes you directly to his website, not the main website I created. How do I get the address to go back to our main address and not his website that he created??
Should we be creating everything on one computer and uploading from one edition of iWeb?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The domain name forwarding, CNAME I believe, will point to the last published site in a MMe account. Try using the File->Publish Entire Site menu option to republish the site you want linked to the domain name.
If you use simple forwarding you can point the domain name to a specific site which will ignore the last published site. This method may display more than you want in the URL window but will avoid the last published issue.
Or if you use simple forwarding with masking you will achieve the same thing but just show your domain name in the the window, i.e. www.youdomainname.com. The downside to this is that visitors can only bookmark the first page of the site. That might or might not be a deal breaker for you. My tutorial page, http://toadstutorials.info, is set up that way.
More info on the different types of forwarding can be found in this topic: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5502129#5502129

  • Multiple Certificates for the same WLS

    Hi,
    IHAC who asks the following:
    Background
Bigshop Limited carried out a soft launch of our e-tailing website under
    the
    url fonzie.bigshop.com.au
We have a verisign certificate setup up for 128 bit ssl under the
    knownname
    fonzie.bigshop.com.au
All ssl connections that connect to the site with this url are able to
    establish an SSL session.
    Current Issue
Bigshop is now in the process of carrying out the public launch of the
website. The public url for the website will be www.bigshop.com.au
We have generated new public/private key pair and a Certificate Signing
Request (CSR) and have ordered a new certificate from verisign
Could you please advise if it is possible to operate two certificates
    for
the one server. This will allow our www.bigshop.com.au and
fonzie.bigshop.com.au url's to operate concurrently and enable both to
establish SSL session with valid certificates.
Is what they want to do possible ?? any suggestions
    appreciated,
    regards,
         Patrick.

Did you ever figure out how to use multiple certificates to the sameserver? I have a need to do this also. Thanks a lot.
In current versions of weblogic (5.1,6.x,7.0,8.1), you can configure only
    one certificate per server.

  • Hi all ,anyone knows some usefual Codecs for H.264 live video/audio

I'm headache about the JMF codecs ,they are too few ,and seems inefficiency, anyone knows pure java codecs for H.264 or MPEG4 ?And I think it's better a open source one ,do my thanks , guys!

    Here are some basics....
FMLE creates RTMP protocol streams that PCs and Macs watch with Flash players.   iOS devices don't understand RTMP (Flash), only HLS delivery of 10 second chuncks of downloaded video playback.  Both systems understand H.264 video, but iOS wants to see AAC audio not MP3.
You didn't state how you are live streaming, meaning what bandwidth delivery service you are using.  Live streaming only via RTMP won't get you to successful iPad and iPhone HTTP Live Stream.  On-demand delivery to iOS devices normally requires .mp4 video files to be hosted, which Macs and PCs also understand via RTMP delivery.   But unless your delivery service can convert .f4v or .flv files to .mp4 on the fly there is no easy way to to get to iOS via the direct file output of FMLE as of today.   Sometimes we upload live encoded project files to our www.Wistia.com account for PC, Mac and iOS delivery.  This is a YouTube / Vimeo paid type hosting service for on-demand only.
Some commercial CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) today allow an inbound live RTMP into their system using FMLE.  Then they re-mux that RTMP stream into HLS delivery for iOS.  Some work well using the native MP3 audio codec (Internap), but most require FMLE to have the AAC audio codec installed from Main Concept for $200.  Or people use Wirecast from Telestream which is $500 per license to be able to run two instances on that one license.
In my 15 years of being a big commercial webcaster here in Silcion Valley, I have yet to find the perfect simple and easy and affordable RTMP to HLS live and on-demand delivery system.  We currently do it different ways with multiple providers depending on the job.  More offerings are coming out now and we try them all as they come down the pike.

  • Public_www problem with users aliases

    Hi,
we have NW6.5sp7 and users(students) can publish ours www pages through public_www adr at your homedir.
We needed to make a aliases to every existing logins (due new strategy of making login names).
But once we make any alias for any login, from that time the public_www adr. of selected login can not be accessible. From the log's can be see, that apache now does not looking the source adr. at homedir, but at rootdir of www server. When we delete alias, problem disappeared and all will start to work fine. I draw conslusion, that the problem can be in mod_edir module.
Apache2 and all modules is from NWsp7 (I think 2.0.59). I discover, that older distributed version (2.0.54) does not have problems I described. So I tried to use old module (mod_edir 1.00.8) from 2.0.54 with new version of apache and now seems that all working fine.
    I think that module mod_edir.nlm (1.00.12), distributed with apache2.0.59, has a bug.
Does any know if exist new version of modul mod_edir.nlm and if problem I described is known?
    Any informations, comments are welcomed.
    Thank's Dave ([email protected])

  • Schedule tasks not working for SSL.

I am running CF11 using Tomcat 7 and jdk1.7.0_45.  I have non-SSL sites that execute the exact same task fine.  However for my SSL enabled sites, the task will not run.  Does anyone have an idea as to what is causing this?

I can confirm that cfschedule does work with SSL and yes you will need to import the certificate or root certificate into your certificate store if it is not one issued by a "well known" provider that the jre supports. The gotcha is that the certificate domain must match the server name used in the cfschedule call. For us this meant that our www.domain.com cert did not work, even after importing, for https://127.0.0.1/... To fix this we created a hosts file entry so the request didn't have to round trip outside the box.

  • How to hyperlink the web-address in an image file

I have created a document on Keynote, which I saved as "Image" so I can send it out as mail.
How can I make a Hyperlink for our www.com address on the Image file?
I know already that Hyperlink works on PDF, however I don't want to send my document as an attachment, but scroll down.
    thanks

How do you get it to default to the account that the email arrived in.   My exchange server email is my primary account.  But the reply keeps defaulting to my 2nd email account which is a SBCglobal.net account.   Why does it do this and how do I correct this.
Seems like it would be simple and automatically default to the account the mail came in on.   What am I missing.

Some of the best prices on iPhones can be found either from ATT on-line store or sometimes the Apple Store. These are deeply discounted REFURBISHED iPhones, but still carry a warrentee. I bought one for my dad, who had his original stolen while he was at the hospital in surgery. It's been about a year, without a glitch.

  • P43 Neo3-F problem or is it the PSU?

I've had this psu for over a year.  Ran my last setup like a champ (DFI NF4 DAGF, Opteron 175, 2GB Dual Channel OCZ DDR-400, same HD's, same DVD's, same X-Fi).
I've not witnessed this, but it has happened to my wife, twice.
While using email about two weeks ago, our computer mysteriously turned off.  My wife was pretty upset that she lost an email that she had been typing out, it had taken her 30 mins (she's a teacher and was doing lessons plans for the next day).  Then again today she said while browsing the net it did the samething.
One second the pc was on and working, the next black screen and silent.     She described it as if someone unplugged a TV - or computer.
My specs are in the signature.
Is this a symptom of a short in the psu?  Faulty mobo?  I double checked all my mobo connections, made sure that there wasn't a accidental connection between the mobo circuitry and any piece of metal.  I can't recreate the problem.  Anyone help me out with a clue as to what could be causing this?

Thanks for the help and replies.
I ran Orthos and Prime95 at the same time last night for 8 hours.  No problem reported there.  I have my memory voltage set to default in the bios, but the memory says it needs 2.2v (via the Patriot website here).  When I put the memory in the system I Memtest86'ed (the DOS version) for 10 hours at the current memory settings (4-4-4-12 @ default voltage) - no errors.  I'm really at a loss for words on this, I have no idea what's causing this problem.

  • Confirmation on Apple vs VZW price difference.

I received this just a moment ago regarding my interaction with a Verizon Representative over the past week. To give him full credit I will say that he indeed went out of his way to research and confirm the information. I shall copy and paste the info I received and remove our names:
    Dear XXXX XXXX,
This is XXXX again, and I am following up as promised after finding more details regarding the price difference you have mentioned.
I found that both Apple and Verizon Headquarters made a business decision to sell the iPhone 4 at different prices for full retail purchases.  This information is currently being worked on to be loaded in the Q&A portion of our www.verizonwireless.com/iphone website.  Based on this information, you will need to purchase the iPhone 4 at full retail cost through Apple in order to receive the difference in cost at this time.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
XXXX, I am glad to be able to provide an answer to your price difference question and inform you both companies made a business decision to offer the iPhone 4 at different prices.  We understand you have a choice when it comes to wireless service and appreciate your loyalty to Verizon Wireless since 2001!
    Sincerely,
    XXXX

Huh, that's weird. I'm discount upgrade eligible but if I weren't, that would be mighty frustrating. I feel for those of you that are not discount eligible... I guess that would be enough for me to wait and buy direct from Apple, however or whenever Apple is selling phones (too much misinformation out there on this subject and don't want to open another debate).

  • Best settings for h.264 export in HD

Hello, i have been reading a lot about h.264 in these forums and on the internet and im a bit stumped on how i should export my video. i shot it in 1080p 29.97 on a canon sx10 is. the file imports fine and exports no problems, but the ending quality is pretty bad. BTW im using FCE 4. first, the video in FCE looks great. i know it converts it to AIC and that part is high quality and fine. if i export it to a self contained movie, it crops it but it is still pretty high quality. my problem is i want to store the file and wont edit it again so i dont want a huge AIC file. i want the resultant file to be mp4 with h.264 and AAC audio. i dont care too much what the filesize is for the mp4 but no matter what i do i cant seem to get as good quality as the AIC, no matter the bit rate, or any other settings i change. can someone point me in the right direction as to what the highest quality output for h.264 would look like in FCE 4? thank you!
