Out of Contract Replacement Network Locked

Hi
My iPhone recently ran out of contract and then broke.
In between my phone breaking and recieving a new replacement model I had already bought a new phone.
I assumed the replacement model would not be network locked but it appears that it is??
Why is this the case??
The carrier is optus.
Thanks
Robbie

The replacement model should be just as the model it repalced was.
If it replaced a locked iphone, then it will be locked as well.

hi can anyone answer the question why do phone carriers have to go to apple to get phones unlocked can apple do this for you once phone is out of the contract/3 month period?

The carrier has to authorise Apple to set up the unlock via iTunes. Apple does not initiate unlocking unless authorised by the carrier to which the phone is locked.

    Hi,
Have you tried to restart Ip Helper service for testing?
Considering if the related DLL file was corrupted or blocked, you can test in Clean boot.
Also run SFC /scannow command as admin to scan your system, if any file was failed to repair, post back the CBS.log for our research.

  • Help unlocking my phone as I am now out of contract with EE...

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. I have been a pay monthly customer with EE for several years and have recently moved to Italy, and my contract with EE has now finished. I would like to unlock my iPhone 4 to use with an Italian phone provider but as I am out of contract I cannot use the online form provided on EE website. I also cannot pop into a store given that I now live in Italy. Any advice on what to do from here would be much appreciated!

These are the EE unlocking rules and these are the only way to get your device unlocked.
It costs £8.99 to unlock a device from EE there are a number of options that you might be able to use to get your device unlocked.
    But first this.
Only contract devices have to be used for 6 months first before requesting a unlock. PAYG, Sim only or secondhand devices this rule doesn't apply.
1, If you still with EE/Orange/T-Mobile just fill out the unlocking request form with your details. Any phone that was replaced by insurance you will need to let EE know that it was a replacement device if your still in contract. You can also unlock an old device if you have a upgrade device on your account just fill out the request form with your details and the phone number you used with this device. It doesn't matter if you use this number on a new device now.
2, If you already have an account with EE and you have brought/been given a 2nd hand device lock to EE and you would like it unlocked you just need to use your Sim card in the device so the IMEI number gets registered to your account. Once your account has the IMEI number on it you can the fill out the online unlock request form.
3, If you have brought/been given a 2nd hand device and don't have a EE/Orange/T-Mobile account and you don't want to use the EE networks you need to get a PAYG SIM card and set up an account. Top-up the account to £8.99 to pay the unlock fee than fill out the online unlock request form.
(If using a PAYG you must make sure that the £8.99 is on your account when EE take the payment if it's not your device will not get unlocked and EE will not inform you that the unlock request has failed. It's you job to make sure the cedit is there when EE go to take it they will not inform you when there going to take it)
    Or
4, A non EE customer can take the device to your local EE store and request the unlock from there it will still cost £8.99 and it still takes 7 to 10 days
5, If you would like a device unlocked and you are no longer with EE/Orange/T-Mobile just fill out the online unlock request form using the number that you used with that device on EE/Orange/T-Mobile. EE will unlock devices that are up to 10 years old that were used on their network. You will still be billed to unlock the device.
6, If you have brought or thinking about buying a 2nd hand device and you are not in the UK you are going to find it very hard to get a device unlocked when you setup an account you need a UK address also you will need to get a PAYG SIM card but you will also need to find away of topping up the account with GBP, if you can not do any of this the device will not get unlocked there are no exceptions.

  • What exacfly _is_ "Network Lock" ...

as opposed to, say, "wireless scecurity" (I. e.,  a selected encryption standard) or a router access password?  Nothing I've seen in the Network Magic docs explains this feature more precisely than saying that it "locks intruders out of your network."  My question, then, is how?  What router setting does this manipulate?
My Network Magic environment is as follows:
Comcast-provided Toshiba cable modem (model # not handy as I'm away from the computer)
    Linksys WRT54GS router, access password-protected
HP Pavilion Elite HPE204f host computer running Windows 7 Professional
Network Magic 5.5, most recent updates as of 6/01/2010 download
I'm using a trial download of Network Magic 5.5 which has no trouble locating my Linksys WRT54GS router -- manually pre-configured with changed default SSID and access password, SSID broadcast disabled, WPA2 enabled/keyed, MAC address filtering enabled, etc. -- and connected devices (currently 1 wireless laptop, 1 wired printer) or determining that WPA2 wireless security  is active and dsiplaying the WPA2 passphrase under "Wireless security."
However, "Network Lock" is shown as "Disabled" and, at least upon 1st click, Network Magic reports that it "can't be configured for this router."  Given that other security measures are in place and active, I suppose I can live without "Network Lock" if I must, but I would like to understand precisely what I'm living without.
Thanks in advance for any enlightement.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for your reply, thecreator, but unfortunately it doesn't quite address my actual question.  As my router is a couple years old and shipped with Linksys EasyLink Advisor (LELA) rather than Network Magic, its docs say nothing about the latter program of any of its features.  The router is, however, listed on Cisco/Linksys pages as one that Network Magic supports, so I know that some or all of the program feature should work with the router.  And most do.
What I really want to understand is what "Network Lock" _is_.   What does it do to "lock intruders out of [one's] network" that is _not_ already achieved by, disabling SSID broadcast, enabling WPA2 and MAC address filtering, and password-protecting router acccess?    A clear understanding of what additional security, if any, the Network Lock feature provides would help inform a decision whether to consider upgrading to a newer router with which the feature does work.  If it's merely a GUI widget in the Network Magic program to turn on/off some router capability that can be manipulated via direct interaction with the router, it's hardly a worthwhile reason to replace a perfecly functional device.    Possibly attempting to be "helpful" by insulating non-tech-savvy users from the techincal details of router functions, the Network Magic docs simply omit any discussion of what Network Lock actually does and how.

  • Out of contract branded Nokia?

What are the rules governing an out of contract, out of warranty branded Nokia handset? Is "de-branding" technically possible then?

The rules are that you must have written permission from the network that branded it to get it debranded at a nokia care point.  Also if the phone is sim locked you must get them to remove that too.
Some networks will help, others won't, it's really pot luck and totally at the networks discretion as nokia cannot force them to do it.
That is the only official method and the only debranding method that can be discussed on this forum in detail.
If the warranty has expired then "other methods" are probably the better option to save a lot of hassle.

  • Getting out of contract based on lack of coverage

I recently moved from NY to MA.  I have had Verizon forever and no issues.  Unfortunately where I now live, my cell phone calls continuously get dropped in my house and pretty much through the town where I live.  I called Verizon a few weeks ago and they said that they would sent someone out to test my area and get back to me. I never did hear back from them and had two calls drop again last night at my neighbors house.  I spent an hour on the phone with Verizon who told me that Yes, my coverage in my area is considered MARGINAL.  I have a couple options, they could give me a network extender for my house, which wont work on my cell phone when I'm out of my house or I can cancel my agreement.  BUT, because I signed my agreement in NY, my coverage is based on that area and I will have to pay the fees for early termination.  I have not had any issues with Verizon, I'm sad that I dont have great coverage where I live because I have enjoyed Verizon....  the only reason I need to terminate is because my coverage is awful here.  I work from home and often forward my work calls to my cell phone.  This is where I live, I"m not just visiting or renting, we purchased a house here.  Verizon is forcing me to keep my phones with unstable coverage or pay an outrages amount to terminate my contract.
The customer service agent told me that I could suspend my phone at no charge for six months...purchase a Straight Talk phone for $50/mo use the money that I save from my bill at the end of the six months to pay off the early termination???? REALLY????
Any suggestions would be wonderful.  I definitely feel more like a number at this very moment than a client.
    Not happy right now

It's probably because people have been gaming the system.  People here for example will buy a device sign a contract and then act like they moved and say they don't have coverage on a neighbor island.  So they get a device for free-$200 and out of contract to use on another carrier.  This kind of stuff happens on a very large scale.  At times people take their devices overseas and used family members addresses to buy devices.

  • My iphone 4 is out of contract, how do i unlock the phone?

my iphone 4 is out of contract, how do i unlock the phone?

Contact the Carrier it was locked to. Only they can assist you.

  • Drop an "out of contract" line from family plan, but keep the number

I have a family plan with 4 numbers. One of the numbers (let's call it line#1) is out of contract, so I can drop it without penalty. However, this is my daughter's number and I really don't want it to change. Another of the numbers (line#2) is still under contract, but it is a phone number I don't need any more. Verizon will not let me "swap" these numbers and keep line#1 while dropping line#2 -- unless I pay the termination fee on line#2. So, I'm wondering if this will work:
    1. Port line#1 TO Google Voice (paying $20 to do so). This will cancel the Verizon contract for line#1.
    2. Activate my daughter's phone with line#2, and configure GV to forward calls/texts from line#1 to line#2.
    3. Wait a few days for things to stabilize.
    4. Port line#1 FROM Google Voice back TO Verizon, replacing the line#2 phone number.
At the end of this process, I will have effectively dropped the Verizon contract for line #1, have line#1 take over the contract formerly owned by line#2, and removed line#2 from my Verizon account. This is exactly what I explained to 3 different Verizon people, both over the phone and in a store -- and they claim that they can't do it because "the phone number is tied to the contract". They won't let me "swap" or "port" a number within my account, but they will let me replace the phone number on a currently active contract with an external number that gets ported in to Verizon. So, I need to port line#1 OUT of Verizon (paying Google $20 to do this) and then turn around and port it back IN to Verizon, replacing the line#2 phone number I no longer need. I don't see a reason why this will not work, unless Verizon has some self-serving rule about not porting in a number that was recently ported out. (Is there a "waiting period" involved here?) It's idiotic to me that Verizon would rather have me give $20 to Google to port a number out and back in rather than allow me to swap phone numbers on my Verizon account.
    Any thoughts?

    Thanks, 21stNow and Brian68.
Understood. I use Google Voice as my primary number now, but my daughter would prefer not to mess with it. She wants HER number (line#1) to show up on outgoing calls/texts using the native dialer/messaging apps. She has an iPhone, and I'm an Android guy, so I don't know how well GV integrates with the iPhone's native dialer/messaging apps. (On my Android, my GV number shows up on outgoing calls from the native dialer by choosing to "Use Google Voice to make all calls" in the GV app. I suspect this would be the same on the iPhone. However, texts sent using the native messaging app (not GV) come from my actual cell number -- even if I change the "Callback" number to my GV number.) I suppose I could train her to use GV for messaging, but GV does not handle MMS or group texts -- it just ignores them! I don't care about this, but my 20 year old daughter does!
Regarding being unable to port the number back into Verizon, is this a restriction because it is a former Verizon number? As I understand it, I can log into MyVerizon and choose to "Change Mobile Number" on one of my active contracted lines. There is an option to port in a number to replace the number currently on that line. Other threads suggest that porting from Google Voice works the same as a landline port. Has anyone tried this and had success/failure?

  • Tv App say "It looks like you're out of your home network"

I installed the Xfinity TV app on my iPad2 and iPhone 6.  Both worked fine for two days.  Today, I keep getting "Looks like your out of your home network" messages.  I am connected to my network SSID and verified the connection by using both the Xfinity TV Remote app and Xfinity TV Go app.  I've uninstalled the TV app and reinstalled it several times in addition to powering down the devices and starting them up again.  At one point, it gave me a 30001 error code only once.  Calls to customer support only resulted in a recommendation to reset the X1 box by turning the power off.  Nothing has worked.  I am running iOS 8.1.1.  Help, please?

Last I head you can only watch the app if you are at home, you cant watch it out of your house. It sounds like it is not really for 'anywhere' TV, it is mainly to replace a cable box in your house ( so you dont have to rent it)
True.  I am trying to use the TV app at home.  I am connected to my home wifi network which then connected to the Xfinity modem from my router.  The app even shows connected on the same screen when I get the error:  https://files.secureserver.net/0ssvPtcfAXkvKT

  • Network locked device

Hey everybody, my BB Q10 refuses to connect to other networks when I change simcards. I inserted MEP and unlocked the device that now accepts different sim cards, but it still does not work.it doesn't ask for any other codes, only displays a message 'device is network locked, contact your service provider'. So i'm wondering if this is just yet another imbecilic, half-witted hindrance, that ever so infuriating piece of an obstacle, that BB users face when they need to use their phones in different countries. And whether it is possible to sort it out from abroad?
    Thanks!

I'm a little confused by your words...

What, exactly, steps did you conduct there? I cannot quite tell from those words. And, since you seem to be traveling now, did you do this before leaving? Or are you attempting to do it after you have already left your home network?
But, based on the rest, I would have to guess that the MEP code you were given was not correct, or some other reason exists for not allowing your device to unlock. When you look at Settings > Security and Privacy > SIM Card, what does the "Phone Network Lock" section say?
It is entirely possible that your device cannot be unlocked properly, and you may indeed need to contact your service provider and/or original place of purchase for assistance. But, so far, I cannot quite tell what to guide you to do.

    Hello Mahal1990,
I have the same problem with them and I do not intent on paying the penality fees because of this. I am now located in France and Bell doesn't even cover this area.
Why would I pay for a phone that does not work?

  • I bought a phone online, but it's network locked

Hi. I bought a new phone online from UK and it came with an Orange sim card. Because Orange services are not available in my country I wanted to add a sim card from career network that is available in my country. Then I found out that my new phone is network locked. I wanted to buy unlock code online, but first I checked sim lock section on my phone to know how many times do I have left to insert the unlock code - it said [0] network 0 - I assume it means I have no times left to insert the code and that I can't unlock the phone with a code.  Is there any other way how could I unlock my phone so I could use it with a local career network?

A SIM lock is not the same as a phone lock.
The only way to unlock an Orange device while abroad is to get an Orange PAYG SIM for it off somewhere like eBay, register an online account for it in your own name with EE and top it up with at least £9 to cover the unlocking fee and apply to EE to unlock it by filling in the Unlocking your device form as the PAYG option.
But before you do make sure you have some way with loading the SIM with GBP, for which you will certainly need a UK bank or credit card. It is not free to unlock a device with EE.

I have a cousin from the U.S.. He can give me an iphone 4 was out of contract with AT & T. Now I have brought to Vietnam and can not be used since the Vietnam does not have AT & T network. I can get the code to unlock iphone 4 can be used with other networks are not?

If possible, I thank you very much.
I do not know much about the language he should use google to translate from Vietnamese into English. If there is something wrong please forgive me.

If the iPhone 4 belongs to your cousin I would suggest you send it back to him and ask that he contact AT&T to request they unlock it.  As of today, AT&T will take requests to unlock iPhones on their network, however there are certain criteria that need to be adhered to. • Out Of Warranty Replacement (Unlocked)

Is it possible to replace the iphone out of warranty? I dropped it and I believe the warranty is void because of that. The touch screen isn't working. The screen works fine but the touch doesnt respond. My phone is unlocked and I paid 650$+tax for it. Is there a chance that they will replace it for free? Will they ask for 199$ for an unlocked one? Or do I have to pay another 650?

As far as I'm aware, the out of warranty replacement cost of $199 applies to all iPhone 4's whether they are locked or unlocked. Make sure they are aware that it is unlocked!
IF there is no visible sign of damage, and you don't make a big deal out of telling them it was dropped, they may end up replacing it for you under warranty. Even if they know it was dropped, if there is no visible damage, they may replace it anyway. It's been known to happen. I'd be prepared to pay the $199 though.
