Out of control volume control

My HP Pavilion dv7=-3057 laptop has an out of control volume icon and control. I believe that it is possessed . It comes on all by itself.  The blue line runs back and forth eventually reaching the highest volume point. It sometimes goes off by itself only to return when I am busy doing something. Sometimes it will go away when I click on the screen the way it is supposed to. Other times it will just keep coming on over and over and over and ov... , you get the point. It is very maddening. I have recently discovered that a quick and hard  slam down on the desk keeps it from coming back for longer periods but it keeps coming on over and over and over and over. I spent 2 1/2 hours with HP support but to no avail. They gave it a very good attempt. Please help as it keeps coming on over and over and over and over and over and......

Hello PJMCGEOWN,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your iPod nano (6th generation).  I recommend following the 5 Rs for an issue like this (you can skip the step to reinstall iTunes because it is not related to the issue you described):
The 5 Rs: Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore
Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with iPod nano. Try these steps one at a time until your issue is resolved. If one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
Reset iPod nano. See “General suggestions,” below.
Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
Restart your computer, and make sure you have the latest software updates installed.
Reinstall iTunes software from the latest version on the web.
Restore iPod nano. See “Updating and restoring iPod software” on page 56.
You can find these steps on page 52 of the iPod nano User Guide:
iPod nano (6th generation) User Guide

  • Optical sound out kills mac volume control

    Using standard audio out to powered speaker allows you to control volume from
    the desktop, or volume keys on keyboard.
    When using optic out to an amp, all volume control at mac end is lost, although sound through amp is fantastic, I would still like to control volume from my keyboard, is there any way of doing this?

    I believe that's the way it's designed. You're expected to control the volume out of your stereo, not the Mac. Since there's no way to use the digital optical connection without a stereo, they expect you to control volume from the stereo.

  • What does remote control volume control do?

    What does the volume control on the remote do?
    About 6 months ago I successfully changed my remote to operate the TV.  Today I reset the remote (by pressing #* and on/off button) so that it doesn't affect the TV.  In this mode, should the BTVision remote control do anything (it doesn't seem to!)?  I thought that it would increase/decrease the output of the BTVision box so that I would have two methods of controlling the volume - one by using the BTVision remote, and the other by using the TV remote.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Nope -- either programme it to operate the TV sound as before or leave it to do nothing.
    Some devices do work the way you would like but not the Vision box.

  • Building volume control.... GGRRR help pls!

    ,Building volume control.... GGRRR help pls!? I have lost the volume control for my Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers.
    Now i down want to spend like 20 on a new one so i thought about building a make sift one.
    ok starting at the top going clock wise for pin numbers.
    when i connect up pins 2 456 the speakers will come on at full volume but for the life of me i cannot figure out how the volume control came in to it.
    I am assuming that you just whack a pot on it somewhere. spent all day trying to figure this but it is iluding me and starting to wind me up as i dont think it shouldnt be that hard to figure it out.
    Also i know a lot of people who have had this prob but no answers have been figured from the 3 nights searching the web for a pin out or circuit diagram of the actual control unit,
    If any one has a picture of one or even a circuit diagram of the volume control unit please email them to me at [email protected]
    Oh and creative... I dont want to sell it or make any money i just want the speaker system working again.
    Thanks guys / Girls
    James

    The digital output was triggered some how. Use a toothpick and feel around to unclick it. Its around the 3 oclock position.
    If you feel uncomfortable doing that you can try inserting and removing a headphone jack till the light goes away.
    Basically there is a switch in the jack that either tells the computer to send out "regular" audio or "digital" audio and yours seems to be stuck in digital mode.

  • Why is the volume control grayed out?

    Hi,
    I am attempting to record from a Sony ECM-MS957 mike that is connected to my iBook with a Griffin iMic onto GarageBand3.
    I am following the "Learn to Podcast" tutorials from Apple. With the Sony mic connected the volume control in the track info window is grayed out. If I un-plug the Sony mic and use the built in mic the volume control becomes active.
    I have the iMic selected in the System Preferences and the volume indicator responds to the mic. The iMic is also selected in the GarageBand preferences.
    Can someone explain to me what I am doing wrong here.
    Thanks

  • Line Out Volume control

    Has anyone noticed the the line out volume (playing iPOd 160GB classic) through dock and stereo is controlled by the iPOd volume control?
    Is this correct for the new clsassic - it doesnt work this way for other models where using line out disabled the iPod volume control.

    so is that the way its supposed to be?
    I thought the volume through the line out was fixed to prevent distortion

  • Possible fix for no audio & grayed-out volume control

    Hi, I just thought I'd post this fix I found for my Mac Mini losing audio and also having the volume control grayed-out as if permanently muted.
    I have had this problem a couple of times on my Intel 2 GHz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini. I have tried some of the software solutions found on the web such as zapping PRAM, deleting certain Plists, etc. But in my experience the fix that has worked is to open the Mac Mini and unseat and then reseat the orange Foxconn ribbon audio cable where it connects from the Mini's audio board to what I assume is the main circuit board. Then when you reassemble and turn on your Mac, audio will be back.
    My theory is that unplugging and re-plugging USB and audio cables on the back of the Mini near the audio board eventually loosens the internal ribbon cable and causes the audio to stop working. My latest attempt at a permanent solution is to have USB and analog 2.5mm stereo audio 'extender' cables plugged in on the back of my Mini, which loop forwards over the top of the Mini where they are all taped down securely. This allows me to plug and unplug cables without ever disturbing the actual USB and audio ports on the back of the Mini.  I am hoping this will help avoid the lost audio & grayed-out volume control problem in the future since the connection of the internal audio ribbon cable is less likely to be disturbed. It is a somewhat ugly solution but seems to be working so far.  I'll post later on if the volume control gets grayed out again even with these measures.

    Not on mac though

  • Stereo bluetooth problems ( Volume control & Video out of Sync )

    I just got a Sony HB-IS800 Stereo Blue-tooth Headphone for my iPhone 3GS.
    There are a number of problems with 3.0 and stereo blue-tooth.
    1) The biggest issue is no volume control on the iphone when you connect your blue-tooth headphones. the sound is set at a loud volume and there is no way to adjust it at all.
    2) The second issue playing video on the iphone and the sound on the headphones are out of sync with the video's audio about a second or two. Sometimes I play a movie and don't see this issue or it is not that bad. All video Podcast are always out of sync.
    I have test this on my iMac and I can adjust the volume and don't have audio sync problem at all.
    I was wondering if in the 3.1 iphone firmware are these issues fixed in anyway?

  • Optical cable is in-volume control greyed out

    Hi,
    I just wondered if it possible (when using external speakers via optical cable)to control the volume by using the volume control (on the top right of screen)
    -my slider is greyed out and the only way I can adjust the volume is within an application itself.
    kindest,becca

    You're welcome! I think they were trying to make it easier by having a single volume level leaving your Mac and adjusting it only on one device. If you turn down the volume on the Mac and turn it up on the stereo, things could get really loud later when you switch your stereo to the radio!

  • Why does using a digital connection from headphones out on a Mac into a stereo disable the master volume control on the Mac?

    When you use an analog connector, it does not disable the master volume on the Mac. It's only when you use a digital connector, and it's ALL digital connectors. It still allows you to use the iTunes volume control but, when you stream anything else on the web on your computer, you have to use the stereo's volume control because the master volume control on the Mac has been disabled. Does anyone know why?

    I had the same problem, instead of logging in the router with the iMac (impossible) I did it with my iPad, I guess you can do the same with an iPhone.
    -Disconnect the iPad from your wifi network and connect it to the TP-Link repeater.
    -Open the web browser (I use chrome) be sure you don't have any other open tab, just the one to access tptlinkextender.net
    -The configuring page opens, from there follow the steps of detecting your network and adding the password.
    *If your MAC address is hidden it'll appear without name, in that case you have to configure it manually (write the name on the space for that)
    Now go, be happy and do good.

  • What is that weird button next to multitasking volume control that controls whether music comes out of ear speaker or bottom speaker?

    There is a weird button beside the multitasking volume control that allows me to play the music through the ear speaker. The button shows a rectangle and triangle together. Is this normal?

    If you mean the image below, that's AirPlay.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4437.

  • How can I set up a custom keyboard shortcut for volume control?

    Hi all,
    I use my black MacBook at work, connected to an external monitor and external keyboard. I'm looking for a way to set up the F buttons on my external keyboard as volume control, just as they do on my laptop keyboard. Looking for F3 to F5 to be volume mute, down, and up, respectively.
    I tried going into Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences but since there is no menu item for volume control I can't seem to add it. Anyone know how I can go about doing this or what I'm missing?
    Thanks
    Mike

    paste the following into Applescrpt Editor (it's in /Applications/Utilities)
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    set curVolume to output volume of (get volume settings)
    -- work out the new setting
    if curVolume < 96 then
    set newVolume to curVolume + 5
    else
    -- can't go over 100
    set newVolume to 100
    end if
    -- and apply it
    set volume output volume newVolume</pre>
    this script will increase volume by 5 (out of 100) any time you run it. you can adjust this of course. save the script somewhere.
    You can use a 3rd part app launcher to bind a keyboard shortcut to it. I use Butler. there are many others: Quicksilver, ikeys, quickeys, Spark, Launchbar.
    this will work the fastest.
    If you don't want to use 3rd party tools for this you can make a service using automator but that might be a bit slower than the first option. open automator. it will give you a pulldown screen wiuth the choice of what you want to make. choose "service". set it to receive no input and be available in all applications. add the following "run apple script" action to the service
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #ADD8E6;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    on run {input, parameters}
    set curVolume to output volume of (get volume settings)
    -- work out the new setting
    if curVolume < 96 then
    set newVolume to curVolume + 5
    else
    -- can't go over 100
    set newVolume to 100
    end if
    -- and apply it
    set volume output volume newVolume
    end run</pre>
    save the service, go to keyboard system preferences->keyboard shortcuts->services and make a shortcut for the service you just created.

  • My kid dropped my iPad 2 and the volume control on the side got jammed in and now everytime my ipad is on the volume icon in the middle of the screen will not go away.  I can not move the switch on the side, it is jammed, is there a way to fix it?

    My kids dropped my iPad and the volume control on the side got jammed in and it will not move, how can I fix this?  Can it be pulled out to unstuck it.  The glass got chipped right next to it, but it is not that noticible.  Everything else works on the iPad, but the other problem is that I am past my 90 day warrenty and it will cost me $265.00 to have Apple fix it.  Is there anyway I can save my iPad?

    Your warranty is actually one year - the 90-days is only for free telephone support - but the warranty would not cover damage due to the iPad being dropped. I doubt there's anything you can do to fix the rocker, so you'll probably need to pay to get the iPad exchanged (by Apple) or repaired (by a third party repair service).
    Regards.

  • How do you increase the voicemail volume on an iPhone 4s ( Verizon ). The phone volume is fine. It is when I retrieve voicemails. Even the speakerphone is faint. I have adjusted the side volume buttons and the volume control in settings.What am I missing?

    How do I increase the voicemail volume on an iPhone 4s ( Verizon )? The phone volume is fine. I have adjusted both side volume buttons as well as the volume control in settings.

    Number one - that person has given you false information...the Apple store genius bar supports all Apple products whether in or out of warranty.  Checking is free, service on an out of warranty item is not free.
    Try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
    Since you show that you have iOS 7.0.3 you might want to update that iOS to 7.0.4...plug the iPhone in so you are on a solid power source, then while on a WiFi go to Settings > General > Software Update and update to 7.0.4.
