Out of disk space--want to install on other drive

I am trying to install j2sdk 1.4.2.05 standard edition on my windows 2000 machine. I do not have any extra space on my C drive so I am installing it on another drive. However, when I click the application or try to go through the Windows Installer Package, I eventually get an error that there is not enough disk space on the C drive, even though I have pointed it to another drive. How can I force the installer to put everything on my E drive? Is there some commands that I can use from the command prompt?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

I tried going to the command prompt and typing:
program-name-windows-i586.exe -is:tempdir e:\my\temp\directory
when i run the install program, i change the drive and directory that I want it installed, it still says that I do
not have enough room on my C drive (I even do the custom installation and force a different directory)
any other ideas?
thanks

Okay looks like I might have solved my problem.
Since C: was seriously full >330mb I cleared about 10 gigs.
Seems to be installing now. Must have some kind of file the has to be installed on C either way.

Tried installing Illustrator CC but ran out of disk space on primary drive... how can I install on secondary drive?

Run_Esperanza how much space do you still have available on your primary drive?  It is possible to customize the installation destination within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  You can find more details at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.
Please be aware that you will need disk space on the primary drive to installed shared components plus contain the temporary files for installation.

  • Newb Question - Running out of disk space after Solaris 10 install (x86)

After installing Solaris 10 on my x86 environment on a 80GB drive, I noticed I'm practically out of disk space. The space seems to be allocated in \devices\pci@0,0 and \devices\isa. There are several fd@8,0:a like devices in ISA at are a ridicuous number (ie. 8589934592.0GB) Block Device. Can someone give background on what is going on here or what I need to do to fix it?
    Thanks.

Well - in typical newbie fashion - I actually was out of space. Turns out that during the install I did not allocate enough to the \ root install folder as all the space was in my home mount.
    Cheers!

  • "Error:Out of Disk Space" message. Why?

I've been using an Apple G4 with FCP2 to capture footage through a Sony DSR-11 deck. I've set up a LaCie 500GB 7200, with most of its 500GB available, as capture disk. As late as last summer I used this system to capture 70+ hours of footage which was then edited on another system.
This time I've met only problems. I've tried capturing 5 different DV tapes. They seem to be capturing but at the end of the hour I get the message "Error: Out of Disk Space".
Does anyone know why this might be happening? I've checked the set up and everything seems in order. (These tapes are 4:3, the ones captured last year were 16:9 DV, so the only adjustment I had to make was un-checking "anamorphic".) I even tried capturing to the MAC hard drive to see if the problem was the LaCie drive, but I get the same same message. (The LaCie I've been using had been full with last year's capture scratch and the disk had been erased through LaCie's Silverlining program, so for a while I began to think that this may be the problem; that maybe I'd have to reformat the disk, etc. but this test seems to rule that out.)
    Thanks.
    John

Since I last wrote I’ve changed hard drives, run tests on them, as well as trash my preferences, which I did earlier. Still, if I try to capture a tape (to disks with up to 460 GB available) I get the message “Error: Out of Disk Space”. The only thing I can think of doing now is deleting and then reinstalling the Final Cut software.
Here I’m kind of dumb and don’t want to make any mistakes. This Apple has been a stand-alone computer used only for Final Cut and the software was installed when I got it. The rest of my life has been conducted on a PC. So is there anything I should do before deleting Final Cut? Should I be doing anything to protect exiting project files, captured clips, thumbnail cache etc.? Will Final Cut just recognize these when I re-install? What do I do? Just open the Mac hard drive, identify the Final Cut application and drag it to Trash? Do I need to empty the trash first or should I leave it there for safety?
I look at the instructions that came with my ancient Final Cut 2 disks. Here’s what they say in full:
To install QuickTime, follow these steps
    1) Insert the Final Cut Pro CD in your CD drive. (I see I have two disks: one “Final Cut Pro 2”, the other “Final Cut Pro 2:Tutorial Media” Do I need to install the second?)
    2) Double-click the CD’s icon, then double-click the QuickTime Installer folder.
    3) Double-click the QuickTime Installer icon and follow the onscreen instructions.
    4) When the Choose Installation Type window appears, select Custom, then click Continue.
    5) In the next window, click Select All, then continue
This replaces any previous versions of QuickTime and ensures a complete installation of all components required by Final Cut Pro.
    6) When a message appears saying installation was successful, click Restart.
Is this all straightforward or might there be any potential pitfalls in the above instructions for someone unfamiliar with installing software on a Mac (In my case old software and an old Mac – a G4)? I guess I should also ask if you folks out there agree that re-installing Final Cut may be the answer to my problem, that this error message is the result of a glitch that has arisen in the installed version of Final Cut.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Running out of disk space in c drive

    Hi,
i'm new to OBIEE, i installed obiee 10.1.3.4 on my computer , i'm doing practice on sample sales. every day i could see message running out of disk space, daily i'm purging cache entries and deleting sessions in UI, and also deleting temp files in oracle BI data, but still i'm facing this problem.
could anyone give me more ideas.
    Your valuable suggestions are appreciated.

    iTunes prefs - Advanced.
Set the *iTunes media folder location* to the external drive.
Make sure *Keep iTunes media folder organized* and *Copy files to iTunes media folder ...* are both checked.
Then go to iTunes menu File > Library > Organize library - Consolidate.
This will copy everything in iTunes to the new location.
After it is complete, quit iTunes then delete \Music\iTunes\iTunes media\ folder.

  • "out of disk space" when trying to export

I'm working on a Macbook Pro and Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5. Here's the deal:
I'm trying to move a project into iDVD, so I'm exporting it as a Quicktime Movie. After about a minute of exporting, the "Error: out of disk space" window pops up. I have almost 3 gigs on my external drive which, I think, should be enough for the file.
On another post, someone with the same problem said it was a faulty timecode that made the project seem reeeaaallly long and the drive didn't have enough room for that long duration. I believe this might be the cause of my "error" because at the very beginning of my project the time code reads 01:00:00;00. If this IS the problem, how do I fix it? If not, what do I do?
I am a very amateur film editor and would very much appreciate any help!
    Thanks.

    Two things:
    1. That is not nearly enough of available space. At least 20 GBs is needed.
    2. FCP 4.5 HD is a PPC app; you are running it on a Intel Mac. Not compatible and you will have issues. I'm surprised you were able to install it.

  • How to set the limit for the warning 'running out of disk space'

I am wondering if there's a way to set the number of GB before I get the system warning 'running out of disk space'.
I saw this question asked in 2010 and it did not get an answer. It was archived so I am asking again. I know how to monitor the available space on my startup disk, and how to empty the trash to clear up disk space. I am looking for an OS X setting that I can change.

My guess is that you want to lower the limit. IMHO I think the limit is alreay too low.
If you are seeing this warning regularly then your disk is severely overfull and needs to be replaced with a larger one.
Running the free space low eenough to get the warning greatly increases the chances for disk corruption. Once the disk gets corrupted then then next thing that happens is data lose.
You have a serious problem with your Mac that should be dealt with immediately.
Backing your data up would also be a good idea if you are not already doing that.

  • Running out of disk space - External Drive Advice

    Hi,
I've been importing all of our HDV video in "Large" fomat (Not the original or full size). We have an Apple TV so wanted to get the qaulity up for our large TV.
Anyway, we have lots of digital pics, huge iTunes library and now I'm starting to run out of disk space with all of my iMovie imports.
I would like to buy a huge external drive to help offload:
Is there any reason I should be concerned about storing my video on external drive? Any editing performance issues?
I use time machine, if I buy a huge external, can I split it in half and use part for time machine and part for imovie?
    Just curious.
    Thx,
    Brent

I agree that you can make this work. Your external drive must be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). You can do this as you are creating your 2 partitions in Disk Utility, if it has a different formatting when you buy it.
If you want to move your Events from your internal drive to your new external drive, you need to do it from within iMovie so you do not break the links to your projects. To do this, open iMovie and click VIEW/EVENTS BY VOLUME. You should be able to see a small icon in your Event Library List for your external drive. You can Command-Drag your event icons in the event library list to this icon for your external, and all the links to your projects will be preserved. (hold down the command key while dragging). If you do a simple drag and drop, it will copy not move.

Get the new HD and an enclosure to put it into, then after formatting it to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in GUID partition use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to create a bootable clone of the internal HD. Then install the new HD into the computer. However rather than going through this excercise which is major surgery on an iMac I'd simply get external HD's to store large amounts of data. My iMac's internal HD is only 320GB however it staill has 219GB of free HD space because I store my large libraries on external HD's. Much easier and the performance doesn't suffer and I didn't run into any issues with breaking internal parts of making serious errors.

  • Running out of disk space on root partition

    Hello,
I'm running gnome 3 and every time I boot and logon with my user I'm getting a warning that my root partition is running out of disk space (~350MB free out of 7.5GB). This seems really strange to me since I've not installed very much software. I've got a 1TB hard drive and the big things are stored in my home directory.
    # df -h
    outputs:
Filesystem size used free used% mounted
    udev 10M 0 10M 0% /dev
    run 10M 168K 9,9M 2% /run
    /dev/disk/by-uuid/072ba75b-a418-4795-ac0b-965815573010 7,3G 6,6G 357M 95% /

    /dev/sda1 99M 17M 78M 18% /boot

/dev/disk/by-uuid/072ba75b-a418-4795-ac0b-965815573010 seems a little bit odd to me there although I don't have much experience using linux based systems.
    # ls /dev/disk/by-uuid/072ba75b-a418-4795-ac0b-965815573010 -l
    # lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 (...date and time ...) /dev/disk/by-uuid/072ba75b-a418-4795-ac0b-965815573010 -> ../../sda3
and tab completion lists the files of my home directory. What's going on here?

What ?? That's the first I have heard of this. What programs fail? Any examples?
With sysvinit in Arch, this isn't such a big problem, but we're slowly starting to see evidence that this is becoming a worse and worse idea. In particular, if you set a non C locale for daemons, you will not be able to shut down cleanly, as mount(8) is trying to reference files in the locale cache (on /usr) and can't unmount /usr.
    Example bug report: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/25149
If you're using systemd, /usr on a separate partition is flat out not allowed. We're getting into the realm of filthy hacks ahead in order to try and support this -- see Tom's late comments in the above bug report.
Oh, and be on the lookout for a cache cleaning util in pacman-contrib (name pending):

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
    iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.
     Cheers, Tom
