Out of free space?

I had 400mb of free space. I added one new music album and wanted to sync. I get a message no photos are synced (the 20mb i had on it were gone) because i'm out of free space. After syncing, the info says i still have 365 mb of free space. I sync again, wanting to get my pictures back on the device, but get same message telling me not enough space. But i do have enough! What's wrong?

I think it's something to do with the recent 3.1 upgrade - did you download and install that? I haven't found a solution yet but it appears to be listing my entire music library as "other" now and so I can't use the space I've got. It's really weird.

Ipod out of free space

I have an ipod classic 30GB. Only 10 GB is music and it says the rest is "other". There is no "other" stuff but music. I don't want another ipod. I do need a new battery but other than that how can I free up this "other" space?

If a Sync of your Classic with its iTunes Library doesn't remove most (but not all) of the Other, then you may need to perform a Restore.
A Restore is carried out using iTunes (there's an option for Restore on the Summary pane).
Be aware that a Restore will remove everything from your iPod and put back onto it only what is selected to copy to the iPod and is in your iTunes Library.

I'm out of "free space" for my iPhones & iPads

I need to buy more space, but I'm curious if I should just buy the smallest package, or if I need to estimate what my long term needs will be. Basically, if I buy the smallest package & then need more space, will I get a credit when I have upgrade to the next level, or will I have to pay full price?

Though this is not specifically stated in the documentation, I would expect you to be charged for the upgrade on a pro rata basis - i.e. the fraction of the extra cost for the proportion remaining of your year's subscription.

Restoring problem, Out of Free space

OK, here is my problem.
I am trying to restore from a backup and I get the following message:
iTunes could not restore the iPhone "iPhone" because the backup could not be saved on the computer.
Additionally my computer will say Low Disk Space:
You are running on very low disk space on C:......
The problem is when this first appeared I removed about 5GB worth of programs on my C drive and when I tried to restore the same problem again.
I think that maybe when you try to restore it starts to put the information on your computer before transferring to IPhone. If that is correct, how can I delete those restores that didn't go through? (I.e. I had over 5GB of space at the start of the restore process and now I have zero space.) I think part of the problem is I have tried to restore like 6 times thus, taking up more and more space.
Thanks in advance for the help, I am so frustrated right now. I tried looking up the answer myself online but had no luck.

Right Click Start> Click Explore> Find your iTunes folder, this should contain a folder labeled previous iPhone Back-ups, erase what you need to. But be careful if you erase the wrong one you could lose alot of your most recent data i.e. contacts apps and music.

You don't have to save the apps itself. Just delete them from your device to get some storage capacity back. You will be able to re-download all of your purchased apps again and free of charge.

ITunes library out of free space?

For some reason well beyond my understanding, iTunes is reporting that it needs over 37.5 GB to back up my 64GB iPad. What does not make sense in all of this is that my hard drive has 1.4TB left. So what gives?

Actually, further to my last reply, I just played a song that wasnt located on my computer any longer (I deleted the file but left it in iCloud when prompted by iTunes). The song has an iCloud icon next to it. I double clicked it and it started playing. When I opened up the info windon on this song, the Location says "iCould". So, that leads me to believe that indeed we can delete the files from our master computer, and, stream them or download them from iCloud! How great is this? Can anyone coroborate this? Cheers, Mark

"Free Space" Partition disaster on new Mountain Lion iMac

I just received a new 27 inch iMac as a replacement for my old machine, which apparently disntegrated during warranty. In setting it up, I tried to create a small partition on the hard drive to run a Linux distro for testing purposes. It seems that with the non-system disc versions of the OS this has become more complex, and what I recall as an easy process turned into a disaster where 2 of the 3 TBs on the machine are locked out as "free space". I humbly retreat from any thoughts of working with partitions on this machine - I just want to clean it up and get it to a one-partition state for music and graphic design production. I have a backup. Here is a snapshot of this nightmare:
I also note that at the top level, where I am used to seeing "Hitachi" (or whomever makes the hard drive) it says Macintosh HD. That can't be right?

Any thoughts? restarting to Command-R seems like it would not address the partition problem at all. I suppose I could put it in target mode and use my laptop to wipe it, but I'm not sure that would address the partitions either. I am completely comfortable with removing the built-in system recovery area if necessary, as I made a system mount on a USB stick.

First I will find out which applications are consuming disk space .
Then check if these data can be compressed,archived or distributed .
If all of the date needs to be accessed on this server at any time then I would consider to expand the disk/volume .

Lenovo ix4-300d free space left

Hello, I have an Lenovo ix4-300d, 8TB. My free space on the servers tells me that there is left 3.8TB, when I look in my Share there is almost no space left. What can I do to get more space in my shares? Now I receive the following message: The amount of free space on your Lenovo ix4-300d is below 10% of your total capacity. I am sorry but I am not sure what you are referring to by MIB, are you trying yo use Management Information base to monitor free space? Can you please explain more what you are trying to do?
You can manage the free space through LenovoEMC storage manager and we UI. You can even set it up to email you when you are running out of free space.

System Won't Reboot Proper After Running "Erase Free Space" in Disk Utility

Thought I'd run it to see what happened.
On an 80gb HD with 35gb free, I was told I was running out of free space partway through the erase, program then quit. Kept system going for about two days without problems, then shut it down for a day. When I rebooted a few hours ago, it seemed to take forever to do so, followed by a dim perpetual blue screen which I couldn't brighten via the keyboard. Waited 20 minutes for screen to resolve into my desktop; alas, no such luck. Rebooted a few times, no change.
17 pB @ 1.33ghz & 1.5gb RAM Mac OS X (10.4.7)

One of the first things I tried: no effect.
Booted on the MacOS X CD and ran disk utility and it found errors, fixed them, rebooted from the hard drive and now I get a perpetual grey screen with the li'l rotater. Zapping doesn't do anything this time either.

Trouble with Disk Utility, Erase Free Space

I have (had) a 120GB HD w/ about 53GB free. I had trashed some large files and thought I'd try the "Erase free space" option in Disk Utility.
I ran it per the help file: seleced Macintosh HD, Erase Free Space, using the "Zero Out Deleted Files" option. It got started, created a temp file, then told me it would take about 31 minutes. As it neared completion, I was presented w/ a Dialog: Out of Free space - or smthg to that effect.
Per the help file, which said I might be presented w/ such a warning but that I could ignore it, I clicked "OK".
Then the computer chugged along for another hour or so, never finishing. Finally I clicked the "Skip" button, and it chugged along for another 30 min. or so, never making any progress in "skippin" in the status bar. I finally just quit Disk Utility.
Now I'm showing a completely full HD. I've restared, but the same thing. I've tried to run Erase Free Space again, but it gives an error "Could not create temp file" - I'm assuming b/c it needs free space to do the task, and it thinks there is none. So...
...How do I get my free space back?

There's probably a huge temp file somewhere, maybe in a folder in your Trash. Do a search for a huge (multi-GB?) file (it might be an image file) that looks suspicious.
The only reason to use erase is for security purposes, and doesn't do anything in the normal course of computer usage. Erase actually writes data to your remaining file space (as you have discovered with no space left) and then trashes that data (or not, in your case).
P.S. In future you should post this kind of topic as a question so people will know it is something that needs answering rather than being a comment.

for those of you attempting to "Erase Free Space" per knowledge base article:

you can perform an "Erase Free Space" by using WipeFS app by Jonathan Clark which can successfully perform a DoD (Department of Defense) wipe for digital media, apple's Disk Utility doesn't do this anymore with non-apple solid state drives (ssd)

These options are not needed for an SSD drive because a standard erase makes it difficult to recover data from an SSD. For more security, consider turning on FileVault 2 encryption when you start using the SSD drive.
Also google "erasing space on ssd".
Bottom line, it is not something you want to do to a ssd.

Free space discrepancy

For a particular tablespace I am querying dba_segments view to calculate the utilized space size of that tablespace:
SQL> select tablespace_name,sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
from dba_segments
where tablespace_name='TBS1'
group by tablespace_name;
The output is: *74.48*
To find out the total allocated size of this tablespace I have used this:
SQL>select tablespace_name, sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
from dba_data_files
where tablespace_name='TBS1'
group by tablespace_name;
The output is: *77.43*
Then I queried dba_free_space to find out the free space of that tablespace using this:
SQL> select tablespace_name,sum(bytes)/1024/1024/1024 gb
from dba_free_space
where tablespace_name='TBS1'
group by tablespace_name;
The output is: *21.8*
Now here I am not able to understand that, why dba_free_space returned 21.8 GB as free space instead of 2.95 GB (calculated by subtracting the value returned by dba_segments from dba_data_files).
DB Version: 10.2.0.1, 64 bit
OS Platform: Linux

How do I create more free space on my MacBook?

I've had my MacBook since Christmas of 2006 (bought it brand new with 1 GB of memory), and already my computer is telling me I have run out of free space. I have many songs and pictures saved, and no external hard drive. Is there a way to free up space without having to buy anything additional for my computer? I'm very upset. I've tried deleting many pictures from my computer, and I've also tried to delete programs, but I really don't own that many programs that didn't come with this mac., that would cause my computer to have less space. I can't even import new songs into my iTunes, or import new pictures into my iPhoto. Any advice would be great. If I've left any important info out that may help someone to give me advice, let me know and I'll try to fill you in. Thank you.

In CRM 5.2 web UI, we can save a transaction by saving attachments like work documents or text files.
Could someone help me find out the used space, free space, maximum capacity on the CRM DB for these attachments.
