Out of memory on my Macbook Pro Retina
I've got a Macbook Pro with retina display andits got a 4GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Memory and 121 GB flash storage and its all full. I cant download anything else and some programs wont run anymore because of the full storage. Is there a way to upgrade so I can download more apps, save more documents, download more music, etc.?
Storage space is not a RAM (memory) iussue ... you need to free up storage space.
Click your Apple menu top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.

Hello,
I'm completely new to the mac world but I'm fed up with pc's and all the insanity with processor problems, viruses, etc. I'm seriously looking at replacing my HP laptop with the new MacBook Pro Retina 13 with 2.4GHz dual core i5 processor, 4GB memory (RAM) & 128GB flash storage, OS X Mavericks (not sure which version). My concern is whether this will be reliably & consistantly fast & smooth both in desktop apps & internet use. I don't need it to do somersaults or anything too advanced. I would mostly be using Pages & spreadsheet apps & internet. It would double as my daughter's computer for cyber school so it's crucial that it runs quickly & efficiently. If she can't complete everything on time or log in to her online sessions because of a computer issue we'll be up a creek without a paddle since this particular cyber school's tech department is still working off of pc's running Windows XP. My father, thus far a pc user, thought I should consider moving up to 8GB memory but I was hoping that with flash storage being faster, I would be able to avoid the extra $100 for the upgrade to 8GB. My biggest fear is finding myself as frustrated & angry as I am now with all of my pc's, ready to take a sledge hammer to them because they take forever to boot, launch apps, internet or do just about anything (that is if they're even fuctioning at all- not joking). Does anyone have any advice or input? Thanks!!
P.s. On Apple's site I found a refurbished late 2013 model of the MacBook Pro Retina 13 with all of the same specs as listed above (4GB, not 8GB), running OS X (doesn't say which one) but for a bit less than a brand new one. Is this the same model as what they're currently selling new in their store or did they just upgrade everything to match what is being offered in the current "new" model? I realize this may be a dumb question but I can't seem to find anything online indicated that Apple has released a model newer than what was released late last year (October 2013, I believe), except that the model released then came with SSD storage instead of flash. No computer is fault free but Apple MBPs have a good track record. In those cases where problems do arise, Apple has the best support in the industry.
A MBP with 4 GB RAM with the SSD storage should be adequate for your needs.

The latest MBP models came out in October 2013, so it will be the same, with the same warranty and telephone support. The difference will be that the price will be less and it will be delivered in a plain white box.
I have purchased three MBPs from the refurbished section. I have never been able to detect any cosmetic differences and will go that route again.

Having Memory problems on Macbook Pro Retina 13'
Hello!
So a month ago or so I bought a new Macbook Pro Retina 13'.
I'm into video-editing and have been editing a lot of videos this summer and noticed that it took up a LOT of space on my hard disk. So, I deleted all the films I have on this computer and emptied the trash file. I also used Disk Inventory X to make sure everything was deleted.
I'm going to be buying an extra hard disk where I'll put all my edited videos, but for now, I'm having slight problems. Even though I made sure every film/video was deleted on my Macbook, according to Utilities I still have 27GB of Films on my Macbook. (Link to print screen)
Does anyone have any idea how to get rid of that?
Thanks so much in advance,
Jay!Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located. However, don't delete anything that is located outside of your Home folder as those are system files.

How can increase the memory of my macbook pro retina??
I have a macbook pro with retina display. It has 121 flash memory and i want to have more, is this possible??
(sorry if the question is to stupid, but i dont understand to much about computers and memory)
ThanksActually, the storage (SSD, like a hard drive) is replaceable, though doing so voids your warranty. Check here, but make sure you find the exact model Mac you have.

Can't get my 30" Apple LCD at full res with the MacBook Pro Retina
Hey
I've been through a lot of posts and I can't seem to find a solution. I have a 30" Apple LCD monitor but the highest resolution I can get out of it through the MacBook Pro Retina is 1280 x 800. Any suggestions? I have tried holding down option while clicking the scale radio button, no luck.iPhoto updates through 'software update', not the App Store.

(using latest AE CC2014)
I have a MacBook Pro Retina Mid 2012 with 2.7 Ghz Core i7 processor 16GB memory Nvidia GeForce GT 650M 1024MB processor, doing some heavy AE renderings and just realized that this machine says it has 8 Cores? I'm had not yet turned on Multprocessing in Preferences Should I be?
Should I leave 1 or 2 cores for other applications?
RAM allocation per background CPU is defaulted set to 3GB
Also for Adobe Media Encoder: in preferences under Video Rendering /Rendere it is set at Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL) is that the best config for this computer? How much ram?
The best settings depend on what you are working on. Here are mine for a nearly identical system:
It's usually best to keep memory blocks in 4GB blocks. If my workflow is more in other apps I'll switch out other apps to 8 gb if things start to slow down. Because of my usual project settings I keep MP turned off on this machine, but for some projects I'll turn it on. If you decide to experiment to MP then keep an eye on the Actual CPU's that will be used and make sure the numbers add up. Other applications and Actual Cores should add up the the total in your system. -

High memory usage, MacBook PRO retina 16Gb
Hi,
I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina 15-inch 16Gb
Processor 2,5 Ghz Intel Core i7
Graphics Intel Iris Pro 1536 Mb
OS: OS X Yoseminte v10.10.2
I'm having a problem with my ram. I think its eating too much rum when I'm not doing anything..
Please find my screenshots attached.
And this is how it looks when I have the Adobe Photoshop open (a small psd file 5,2Mb), Microsoft Word (1 page), Itunes, And the Chrome Browser (12 tabs opened)
Can someone help me with this issue? Why is it eating that much RAM?
If there is any other info that you need for this situation please tell me so I can get that for you.
Thank youWith the introduction of Mavericks, the OSX now for performance purposes will try to use as much RAM as is available. The amount of used is no longer the guiding parameter regarding if adequate RAM is installed or not, but PRESSURE is. If your MBP shows that Pressur is in the GREEN category, then the MBP is operating efficiently. If the color is Yellow or Red, then you must loook for solutions.
Use of the Memory Clean application will serve no useful purpose. You may let OSX do it's job,

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless. -
Memory leakage Macbook pro retina 15inch Early 2013
Hi,
This is my first posting to the Apple community, so please forgive me if have missed a previous posting on this subject.
I have an early 2013 15 inch MBPro retina running 8 gigs. My previous device was a MBpro 15 early 2008 4 gigs of ram. I never expected the 2013 with double the ram to be constantly dropping below 2 gigs with only FireFox and/or MS word running. The older 2008 device used only 2 gigs to run these programs. It appears that the 2013 model is using 6 gigs.
I took the 2013 15 inch MBpro retina to the Apple store for the Geniuses to run their diagnostics. They said my device was running normally. To prove such, they simultaneously opened Jim Carrey's web site 8 times and showed me that all of his the crazy stuff was working in each window. They said that it is normal for a SSD machine to run on low memory.
Unfortunately, it has been my experience that when my memory drops when just using my normal Firefox based surfing, my track pad scrolling starts to get very sluggish until my "memory clean" kicks in at 1.6 gigs and brings the memory up to around 2.5 gigs. As I continue to surf, then the process repeats itself. I never expected my old 2008 device to use significantly less ram running light applications better than my new 2013 device.
I have seen others post an "EtreCheck" and hopefully by posting mine, somebody can find what the Apple Geniuses could not.
Thank you for your help!!

Freed memory not available 2012 MacBook Pro Retina
I have a 500 GB flash storage drive on my 2012 MacBook Pro Retina. In a bid to run things faster for my music production, I've moved my large ITunes library onto an external hard drive. I backed everything up and trashed the iTunes folder after the external was all working, repaired disk permissions and restarted but my freed memory is still not showing. Anyone have any advice? Thanks!
Download from the Internet OmniDiskSweeper (free) and open it. It will show all of your files and the respective sizes. See if this will assist you ion detecting the problem.

Has anyone else had the screws fall out of the bottom of 2012 2013 Macbook Pro Retina?
Apple tried to repair my Macbook Pro Retina when I first got it. They took the back off, replaced the motherboard (which was not the problem), and returned it to me the next day (via FedEx). When I got the machine back, half of the screws on the back shell were falling out... and one was in crooked. Apple told me to take my machine to the authorized computer repair place to have the screws tightened. The screws were tightened and now, they are falling out again! I've read about needed some sort of locktight product to put the screws back in. I don't understand why an authorized repair place would not do this the first time! Can you tell me what the process should be on replacing the screws in the bottom (shell) of the Macbook Pro Retina? I've heard that the shell should be replaced when the new screws are put in. Is this true? (I have AppleCare and will take my machine in next week for repair.... again!) Thanks!
The first repair (when they thought logic board was bad) was a mail-in to Apple. They are the ones that did not re-apply the screws properly and they were falling out when I took computer out of the cardboard shipping box. Called Apple. They said take it to Computer Guys (only auth Apple repair here). Now, a new Mac store in the mall has opened. I think I will take it there this time since it was not done properly at the Computer Guys last time (however, Apple didn't put them back in properly in the FIRST place! Gee. I have Applecare and will stay with Apple repair only. Thanks! I appreciate everyone's input. It has been really helpful! The only reason I have not taken it to an Apple Store is because it is 3 hours away. I will see what this new Mac store has to offer. Oh... and, Apple Support did absolutely nothing for me! Did not even apologize for not fixing it properly the first time... and costing me time and money (as my computer is part of my job). Thanks again! Did Apple do this on purpose to keep us from repairing our own machines? I've seen so many complaints online and I imagine there will be more to come as the machines age and people try to make repairs themselves. Crazy.

Garageband on macbook pro retina records out of rhythm
Hi all. I use a macbook pro retina 15" with a 2,4 GHz Intel core i7, 8 GB ram at 1600 MHz DDR3.
I have this problem: I'm recording a demo in multi-track with garage, so when I rec the guitars and the bass guitar without the voice and the drum (i record them one by one, not all together) all is ok, but when I'm recording drums and voice suddenly garageband starts lagging so it records out of rhythm. In other words when garageband plays guitars and drums (for example) while I'm recording the voice, suddenly it starts to play faster or slower so the track I record is out of rhythm.
I also tried to record the different tracks (guitars, bass....) in different projects (obviously at the same rhythm rate with metronome), but when i put that together all went out of rhythm again....
Please help meeeeeUsually what happens is that over time the cable comes loose from the back. This happens because the enclosure within the hinge housing is quite tight and the LVDS cable has little room to move around. Because of the frequent opening and closing on the lid, the cable starts to move out of place try opening and closing it a few times and push it back very gently. You might see the line disappear or decrease slightly.

Macbook Pro Retina won't drive HDMI out
So I was talked into the new MacBook Pro Retina in place of a new Mac Pro by the guys at the Apple store. I told them I needed to drive 4 displays and they assured me the MBPr would do that. 2 from mini display ports. 1 from HDMI and it's own display. Fair enough.
Only, the HDMI out seems dead. I am running two Dell monitors on the mini display to DVI connectors. I am trying to run a 3rd Dell monitor on HDMI to Disply port but am getting no signal. None. Nada. After a few seconds the monitor tells me there is no signal from the computer and it shuts down.
I have seen a lot of other issues around the HDMI output. Anyone know the status? Has Apple bugged this? Is there a fix in the works?
Thanks!
CharlesTry with just the HDMI external; display. I would suspect the HDMO cable if this test does not work. Tray a new HDMI cable. If the new cable does not work, take the computer to an authorized service center. There is no "bug" using HDMI to an external monitor.

I recently bought a macbook pro retina and while I'm using it a yellow triangle pops up then disappears. I don't know what it says. How do I find out whats wrong?
Oh, by all means. Uninstall it using its uninstaller if you have one. Do not install any anti-malware software as it's unneeded with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.
Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper 2.0.1
2. AppDelete 3.2.6
3. Automaton 1.50
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash 1.8.2
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
