• I've had my iPod 5th gen for a few months now and out of nowhere the microphone has stopped working.

I've had my iPod 5th gen for a few months now and out of nowhere the microphone has stopped working. It won't pick up anything, I can't use it for recording, face time, siri or anything else. Every time I try and record and play it back its just all fuzzy, is there anyway of fixing it without having to send it off for repair?

- Make sure the mic hole is clear and unobstructed. It is the little hole on the back by the camera lens(if has back camera). For the 16 GB one without the back camera the mic hole is on the tope edge near the center.
- Open the Voice Memos app and see if you see movement on the VU meter needle with changes in noise level trying to be recorded.
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
You can also send it to Apple.

when i open itunes its normal and then out of nowhere it says "itunes has stopped working" and i have to click 'close program'. help?

Having the same issue here....a quick fix is to just minimize the window, and immediately maximize it. It will now fit the screen. Trouble is, after you close it, you'll have to do it again when you re-start itunes. The good news is it takes all of about 2 seconds. Apple should fix this. Should.

• Why sound came out only on the right side ?

Hi guys,
When I play in on the timeline & view the sequence in the canvas, the music came out on both sides of my earpiece.
When I export it using QuickTIme, the sound only came out on the right side of my earpiece ?
I check both the sound lines in the timeline & they look identical.
Any ideas why ?
Thanks

Sorry Ian, I should have make myself clearer. When I said the sound only come out on the right side I meant this:
Say there are 5 sections in my clips.
Section 1 & 2, exported file when played sound only come out from the right ear piece.
Section 3,4,5 exported file when played sound came out from both left & right earpiece.
Section 1 & 2 and Scection 3,4,5 is playing the same song except that the same song starts at section 1 and 3 respectivley. (meaning at beginning of section 3, I drag the same song to the audio track to repeat the same song)
Any ideas ?
Thanks

• I created a movie and last night, out of nowhere, the pictures got all mixed up so the picture in the movie is not what's on the view window.

Any suggestions as to how to straighten this out without having to start over?

Hi, beth.lau.gr.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand you have been experiencing issues with your iPhone restarting and showing you a blue screen. I wont be able to give you an exact answer as to why this is happening. However, this is the most relevant troubleshooting article for this issue. This article also provides options to reach out to us via phone for additional assistance.
If your iOS device restarts, displays the Apple logo, or powers off while you're using it

• I have FF Mobile loaded on my Transformer Prime with ICS. I have read through all the tutorials about installing addons but my FF does not have a slide out menu on the right side. So I cannot click on the gear button to open the settings.

I believe this started after the update from 3/13. I remember setting the user agent at some point when i first loaded it. Now I am unable to get to that option.

Update: I have also loaded FF Beta and Aurora and I have the same problem. No way to open the settings menu.

• Well there are buyers out there if the right stuff is selling...

Yesterday Canada post announced that there was an error on a recently issued stamp and they pulled everything from the POs. (it only became available on Friday). Today the folks that got them before they pulled have been selling them, at ever increasing "error stamp" prices, quite quickly!!! Just do a search on "canada unesco" in the stamps category (sold items)... 22 sold already just today......

(Note that I'm not much of a stamp person) I'm not going to be one of the people buying the stamp at 3x the counter price...... Just to sell it at 50% of the counter price off to a discount postage dealer 30 years later...... I do occasionally buy stamps at the counter because I thought they looked pretty, but I do eventually use them on my packages once I'm done staring at them.
The recent announcement of increase from 0.85 to 0.90 made me glad to have just bought a discount postage lot last week. Anyhow, I do think it's a really smart idea for POs to release special looking stamps. It's essentially a piece of paper costing $5+ that collectors won't use and will simply put in a collection binder =)

• Ultra slow imports? This just started seemingly out of nowhere. One day it works perfect and now it is so slow it is not useable. Tried different card reader with sam results.

One day importing works great and now it is not even useable its so slow...what happened? Any ideas? I tried a different card reader...same results. Tried different card...same results

Ouch, tough spot, but offhand I'd say some memory may have gone bad, or maybe just needs re-seating after all this time.
Not much you can do, but try this anyway...
PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

Ok well i can't seem to figure this out, i downloaded and older pkg build of the driver from here http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/n … hrev=24314 and here http://repos.archlinux.org/viewvc.cgi/n … hrev=24314 But whenever i try to start X with that installed i get an error complaining about missing modules in the kernel or something of the sort. I would really liked to get this sorted out before i leave for basic training on Tuesday

• Very Low Sound, occured out of nowhere.

Out of nowhere, the sound on my computer will only go to about 1/4 of the actual maximum volume, even when everything is turned up to max in alsamixer, and on my main module. This occured out of nowhere one day, and i can't seem to find a solution to it anywhere. Any advice?

I have the same soundcard (or at least the same modules loaded) and I'm getting good volume.
Things to check:
If you have the pcm and main volume all the way up in alsa mixer that should be it. You may have to adjust the volume separately if you use esd, arts, pulse, or jack (I don't use them).
Another thing to test is to make sure your using alsa not oss, and you may want to raise the oss level and see what happens.
The final thing is you want to check to see which sound device the audio programs are using (usually found in the preferences).
If none of that works, then you're out of luck. It would help if you post what sound programs you are using and what sound daemons you are using.
Here is my Daemons line from /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(@syslog-ng @network @netfs @crond @alsa @hal @fam)
So i would think im using alsa not oss. but how would i go about raising the oss to make sure? there is no "oss" option in alsamixer. I have tried just abuot every audio progream there is and even firefox, all of them produce about half of the maximum volume level.

• Was I hacked? Got this msg out of nowhere:

Was I hacked? Got this msg out of nowhere: "The system extension “//System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update." I was on my home wifi, watching hulu, not plugged in to anything. I don't know what this is in reference to. Everything kept running as usual... any help would be appreciated!

No you were not hacked.

• IPhone reset out of nowhere, everything gone

I went to look at my iphone 4s and the whole thing had reset out of nowhere. I didn't do anything, and it was working fine a few minutes ago. Now the screen is just gray and says iPhone on it, and when you swipe, it walks you through the steps of picking a country, language, etc, then asks if you want to make it a new phone, restore it from itunes backup, or restore from icloud.
I sync my phone to my work computer so won't be near it until tomorrow morning. Can anyone tell me why this would happen and if there's anything I can do now? I've never had this happen in all the years I've had iPhones. I also don't sync often, so I'm worried I will have lost a lot of stuff, like pictures and things.
Any help is much appreciated as this is pretty upsetting. Thanks in advance!

Hey There, Ramon-Ronnie -
Check the settings for vibrate in Sounds and in Notifications. It's possible that you have vibrate turned on for an alert and you aren't aware of it. The resource below will explain in more detail.
Change sounds, ringtones, and alerts on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support
http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204019
Set your iPhone to vibrate
You can set your iPhone to vibrate when you get an incoming call:
Go to Settings > Sounds.
Turn on Vibrate on Ring and (if you want) Vibrate on Silent.
You can also set vibration patterns for alerts:
Go to Settings > Sounds.
Select an alert type in the Sounds and Vibrations list.
Tap Vibration and select a pattern.
To create a custom vibration pattern, follow these steps:
Go to Settings > Sounds.
Select an alert type in the Sounds and Vibrations list.
Tap Vibration > Create New Vibration.
Tap or touch and hold the screen to create a vibration pattern
Tap Save and name your vibration pattern.

• Mac sometimes freezes to white screen out of nowhere?

I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 running on Lion. Out of nowhere the screen just turns white and item it will turn a grayish color and get really hot. I am out of the warranty, and I have no clue how to fix it. I can get it to turn on occasionally, as I have been trying to get files off of it, but then it will freeze and go to the white screen in no more than an hour.

Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

• When I compose an email, I can't see what I'm typing near the right margin. Other browsers have an arrow to click to widen the view. youdon't.

When I compose an email, the composition window is not wide enough, so as I get near the right margin my cursor suddenly disappears behind the right edge of the window for like 10 characters or so and then it reappears on the Left Margin and I can see it again. So if I type something incorrectly out there on the right where I can't see it, I'm screwed. And there's no mechanism to widen the window. In Explorer, there was an arrow halfway down the window that I could click on to widen the window. So I'm gathering this is a browser/Firefox issue. Please advise.

Can't you resize that text area when you move the mouse pointer to the bottom right corner?
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.
*View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl+0 (zero); Cmd+0 on Mac)
Also make sure to use full page zoom ("View > Zoom Text Only" should not be checked)
If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" in case the current setting is causing problems.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)
Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.
*Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"
It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text.
