Out of Office *sigh*
Ok, so I will start this out by saying I apologize for creating another Out of Office thread, but nonetheless I can't figure this out. Our OOF is not working internally on our exchange server 2010. However, it will work through OWA. I have
tried setting SCP's, updated internal and external URL's, created certificates, and created DNS records. I can't seem to figure out what combination of things need to be setup to work for our configuration. First things first, I did not configure this
mail server. It was in place when I arrived so I have no idea how the setup went. Second, we still have the old exchange server 2003 on the network. Last, please help. I have exhausted all my resources trying to figure this out. I
have tried to set everything back to the way I found it to begin the troubleshooting process. We have not purchased any certificates due to cost, and I do not see our client purchasing certs. See below for a few logs to get things started. Thank
you for the help in advance.

Sounds like things are a mess.
Personally I would be looking to clean up the mess.
The first thing to do is sort out the SSL certificates. If you are going to use anything external (OWA, Outlook Anywhere, ActiveSync) then you need to use a commercial SSL certificate, so that you don't generate prompts.
Sit down and work out
a. What URLs the users are currently using to access various services. Autodiscover.example.com etc are only used outside the network or by clients that are not members of the domain.
b. What host name you want to be the primary host name.
c. The real name of the server, both its FQDN and NETBIOS name.
Then use the SSL certificate wizard in Exchange 2010 to generate a new certificate request.
Set the common name from the default of example.com to your preferred primary host name.
Add in the autodiscover entries for each domain that you are supporting for email where users have that domain in their PRIMARY email address.
Then add in the server's NETBIOS and FQDN.
Get the certificate issued and installed. Ideally using a commercial provider - one of cheapest source of the Unified Communications type that you need is
https://certificatesforexchange.com/ but if you insist on using your internal CA, then do that - IF the internal CA is configured correctly and is publishing the root certificate to the clients. (Although you
will get certificate prompts in the external clients that are not members of the domain).
With the certificate installed, you can sort out the URL and DNS mess.
Point all internal IP addresses for the host names to the Exchange server. Lose that IIS machine as it is just complicating matters.
Go through the OWA, ActiveSync, EWS configuration and ensure the correct URLs are set, both internally and externally.
On set-clientaccessserver, ensure that the value for AutodiscoverServiceInternalURI is set to the server's real FQDN - so
https://host.example.local/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
Include the HTTPS in all URLs.
After changing things, run IISRESET to get the changes to write to the IIS metabase and/or Exchange.
Test again.
Simon.

Hi,
This is my first post in the forums. Please forgive me if it's in the wrong category or if it's not posted correctly in any way.
I'll try and give you below as much information about the problem we have here as I can.
What we have:
- an on-premises Windows 2012 Standard server that is the PDC, DNS and DHCP server;
- a second Windows 2012 Standard server with the sole purpose of hosting our Exchange 2013 CU7 server;
- Windows 7 PCs with Office Home and Business 2010 v.14.0.7143.5000 (32-bit);
- Outlook 2010 connects through Outlook Anywhere (mail.ourdomain.com).
The problem:
If trying to set up Out of Office through Outlook on the client PCs, we'd get an error message: 'Your automatic reply settings cannot be displayed because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.' Interestingly, it does work normally for some users.
It works fine for all users if done through OWA.
Tests performed:
User 1 on PC1 has the problem. User 2 on PC2 doesn't have the problem. Both users are members of the same security groups.
- setting up User 2 on PC 1: the problem exists;
- setting up User 1 on PC 2: the problem exists;
- setting up a second Outlook profile on PC2 within User 2's domain account (the one that works), for the same User 2: the problem still exists!
I haven't been able to set up an Outlook account that works since this issue was discovered, although there are existing Outlook accounts that do not have the issue.
Let me also point out we have another issue we are working on and which may or may not be related: the Autodiscover function in Outlook doesn't work. Test E-mail AutoConfiguration results in 'Autoconfiguration was unable to determine your settings!'.
I can see postings in the Internet of other people having the same problem with OoO, but couldn't see a solution that fits my case: some existing accounts in Outlook are fine, other are not and newly created profiles of aforementioned working accounts do not
work. The majority of the articles/threads I read suggest recreating the Virtual Directories in Exchange, but we did that just a month ago (when troubleshooting the Autodiscover problem) and besides if the problem is in the Virtual Directories, I would expect
it to affect all accounts.
Any help in resolving this problem would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need other details.
Apologies if the posting is not in the right place or not done properly - I'm still learning. The IIS log files on the CAS might tell you something. Depending on how your proxy server handles NAT the IP address of your connection might be from the proxy server instead of your client.
In any case, a tool like Fiddler (http://www.telerik.com/fiddler) can be extremely helpful in working on problems like this because it can decode the SSL traffic on the client and you can see what's being sent
and what's being received.
Another thing to check (although it's unlikely to be your case) is whether or not your browser (when you try connecting to the autodiscover URL) thinks it's in the "Internet" zone. the "Local intranet", or at a "Trusted" site.
The domain names you use on machines on your LAN should be excluded from being proxyed. Anything with "." in the name will be set, unless excluded, to the proxy server.
Is the time correct on the client machine? Is it more than 5 minutes different to the Exchange machines and domain controllers? That'd be something that would cause Kerberos to fail.
A certificate can be a problem if its expired or if it doesn't have the correct names. But I wouldn't worry about the uglog.com domain just yet. Until you get the Autodiscover working with the SCP you have bigger problems.
If you've never used a WPAD file then don't worry about it. It's very useful if you have a complex network and you want to manage how browsers connect to servers. For example, if you have multiple proxy servers the each manage a different set of names, an/or
if some names should bypass proxy servers entirely and just connect directly. If run a strictly Microsoft network with only Microsoft product that you can manage with GPOs (and you can enforce those GPOs on every machine -- even the BYOD ones) you probably
don't need a WPAD.

Problem with Automatic Replies or Out of Office
Hi mates!
I´ve just finished migration Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.
Today I´ve removed Exchange 2003.
I have a problem with Automatic Replies or Out of Office. When the user active Automatic Replies in Outlook 2010, He has this Error:
Your Out of Office settings cannot be displayed, because the server is currently unavailable. Try again later.
If I logged into OWA, (Options > Set Automatic Replies) I could set it up and it worked fine.
I run Test E-mail AutoConfiguration command to see if AutoDiscover has been configured and the OOF URL is correct:
https://mail.domain.com/ews/exchange.asmx
I try to browse the OOF URL from IE, It works fine.

I use a certificate for Server HUB/CAS from my CA (Active Directory).
In EMC I have this error for certificate:

But when I generated in the past, this status of this certificate was This certificate is valid for Microsoft Exchange.
I need help, because I don´t know I do…
Thanks.Hi MAS,
As soon as possible I will install this kb in a PC with Outlook 2010.
Yes, I reset IIS, with the same result.
I check this URL, and I run this command: TestOutlookWebServices -identity user01 with this result:

Apple Mail and Exchange Out of Office Not Working
Has anyone had issues with Yosemite Mail and setting Out of Office for Exchange 2010?
I can set Mail to send Out of Office replies but cannot change the scheduled dates from 2/12/1982, 10:00 AM. Even when I do set it, it does not seem to send the OOO notifications. I can set it just fine on my iPhone 6 and Mavericks Mail worked fine for setting the OOO.
I deleted my account several times and reset it and I can get all my Mail back just fine but OOO still doesn't work correctly. I wanted to try to change the server settings but Mail doesn't allow you to do that for auto connect Exchange accounts.
Because of this (and my concern with reported issues with updating meetings), I switched back to Outlook 2011 until these bugs get ironed out. This is too bad because I love the notifications feature for Apple's programs.
I'm running on a 2014 13" MacBook Pro.Same issue here. I can see these error messages repeating when I'm trying to change the date.

Exchange 2013 - Out of office unavailable when shared mailboxes added in
Good Morning all,
I have a strange issue with our MS Exchange 2013 environment concerning out of office.
When certain users try and access the OOO it gives them the below error message:
"Out
Of Office cannot be display because the server is currently unavailable"
As I mentioned, this is not affecting all users, here comes the strange part(I think so anyway)
The users in question have a shared mailbox added, if I remove the mailbox VIA ECP / Outlook client, out of office begins to work, once I add the mailbox back in, everything works, until the next day or some sort of refresh takes place and then OOO becomes
unavailable again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
San.Did you recently installed windows update?
If yes, then check this, see if it applies by uninstalling the update.

Our end users need to be able to give their managers access to enable their out of office.
question 1. Can this be done without giving them full access?
question 2. If they need full access, can the end user themselves give this access? (I've tried giving another user "owner" rights, but the user still can't seem to open my calendar from OWA to adjust my out of office)
question 3. Can this be done without an Sys Admin being involved? You can create a RBAC role for each manager scoped to each of their employees that lets them run the Set-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration cmdlet on the exchange server. Otherwise they will need full access to the users mailbox which an admin would have
to grant, the end user can not grant this permission. Then they can open the other users mailbox in OWA and set the OOF

How can I set up an out of office message?
I use Macmail for my mac.com account and also to receive my business emails through another server. I have tried to use rules to respond with an "out of office" message but it has not gone well. The system responded to year old emails and flooded our email. I have read on some support sites about setting up through the server but I do not understand. I need a response that is not overly technical as I do not understand what I am reading if tech lingo is used...sorry but I try!
PeytonYou might want to check with your email service provider. They often have this option built into their service. For example, I have an email account with Verizon. They have a "vacation" setting that when turned on will send an automatic reply for you. Your incoming email is otherwise delivered normally.

Out of office/free busy not working for Outlook 2013
Hi! I have a user on our network that cannot use Out of office or see free/busy information in meeting requests. We have hundreds of working 2010 clients but this one is 2013 and NOT a member of our domain. They are connected to exchange
and can do anything except the above. When I do a test of email autoconfiguration it just fails. DNS resolution is working fine but it can't connect to the server for these two functions only. Any articles I can find assume the user is remote
and outside the network but he is connected internally. Any ideas?
Thanks!Hi,
Please switch to Outlook 2010 client and login OWA to check this issue.
The Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Availability service makes free/busy information available to Outlook client. Then Outlook uses the Exchange Server 2010 Autodiscover service to obtain the URL of the Availability service. As you
mentioned, it failed to do a test of email autoconfiguration. So I suggest the following methods for troubleshooting
Please switch to Outlook 2010 client and login OWA to check this issue.
Have you configured
Autodiscover Service for Internet Access?
Use Test-OutlookWebServices cmdlet to
verify that the Autodiscover service settings for Outlook clients are configured correctly.
Blog for
reference to troubleshooting Autodiscover.
Best Regards.

Exchange 2013 - OWA "Something Went Wrong", Out of office in Outlook "Server unavailable"
Hi,
We have a new deployment of Exchange 2013 CU2 V2 running on a Windows 2012 server. Everything has been running without issues and then without any real clue to why, we are now getting an issue where OWA says "Something Went Wrong" after processing
your login, (it appears to process the login as if I type in incorrect details it tells me the password/username is wrong).
At the same time we have also lost the ability to run the Out Of Office in Outlook which comes back saying the server is not available and we can't seem to share calendars correctly either. (Can set Out Of Office via the Management Shell without issues).
When running a Get-Serverhealth on the OWA.Protocol it tells me the OWASelfTestMonitor is unhealthy.
I've tried re-creating the OWA, EWS Virtual Directorys and also the autodiscover but with no effect. I've also restarted the server.
Outlook 2013 and mobile phones are working fine on the server and the Exchange Admin Centre is also working without issues.
I am getting tempted to apply CU2 again to see if this sorts it but don't really like doing this on a server with 50 live users on it...
In the eventlog I can see lots of the 2 errors listed below which seems to line up. (System Log and Application Log seem to be clear of other errors or warnings.)

lots more data...Hi Angela,
I can't see any re-directions on the website and have certainly not set any intentionally. I did try installing the Remote Web Gateway on the server and then found that it doesn't work on an exchange box and removed it but the server was working after
this.
The HTTP Redirect in Default Web Site is not showing anything set and the same for the Back End.
The bindings on the default site all look normal with;
http 80 127.0.0.1
https 443 127.0.0.1
http 80 *
http 443 *
The same is mirrored in the Exchange Back End site but with ports 81 and 444.
Running the Outlook auto configure just using Autodiscover all looks good with the URLs listed all pointing to (http)://mail.mydomain.co.uk/whatever... and the log says Autodiscover to (https)://mail.mydomain.co.uk/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml Suceeded
(0x00000000)
But, if I type in the OOF address of (https)://mail.mydomain.co.uk/EWS/exchange.asmx I get a login prompt but once user details are entered I then get;

Outlook 2010 Mail Tips Could Not Be Retrieved / Out Of Office Doesn't work too.
Hi,
We have a small set up with 5 pc's and 1 server. All of the workstations are exactly the same.. specs,OS,software etc...
One of the users is currently experiencing "Mail Tips Could Not Be Retrieved" issue.
It shows up right above the SEND button when replying or sending a new e-mail.
Also Out Of Office / Automatic Replies function does not want to work as well. It asks me to try again later cause the server is not responding.
The funny thing is that this is happening only to a single user.
Here is what I've tried:
- Tested E-Mail AutoConfiguration - Autodiscovery works fine and points to the right directory.
- Deleted the profile and recreated it ... didn't work
- Added the same mailbox to another computer - IT WORKED
- Checked all the SSL settings for each virtual folder in IIS and they are all set to IGNORE the certificate.
The other strange thing is that when I try to download the OAB from the affected PC a credential window pops up and asks for the username/password
of the particular mailbox.. Once I enter them the "Mail Tips could not be retrieved" message disappears and Out Of Office is accessible and ready to be used.
Maybe Outlook 2010 setting or registry value ?This sounds like an authentication issue for the Autodiscover/EWS URLs and your last paragraph basically confirmed it.
Is this PC domain joined and is this user logging on with his domain credentials and not locally to the computer?
Is the user able to access:
https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
or
https://domain.com/autodicover/autodiscover.xml
An xml-page should be returned with ErrorCode 600 Invalid Request.
Is there a TMG or UAG server involved here?
Also check the proxy settings in Internet Options (if configured/required).

Issues with Global Address Book and Out of Office saying Exchange is Offline.
So we have an Exchange 2010 server that has been running fine for quite a few years. We recently changed our firewall to an ASA 5510 and created all the firewall rules necessary to have email work through it. Everything works fine so naturally we thought
everything was good to go.
Then I started getting messages that the Out of Office wasn't working an that when users where trying to set their away message they would get a message from outlook that the exchange server was unavailable, yet when I
check the outlook client it would say Connected to Microsoft Exchange at the bottom. I thought this was crazy so I started looking further into it and it turns out that the name for the server owa.xxxxxx.net points to a public address, which of course lives
on the outside interface to the ASA. In ASA world it doesn't like private space (ie. 192.168.x.x) talking to the outside interface and drops the packets, where our old firewall did not. So as a short term fix I had the users using OWA site with a internal
address to set their out of office message. This worked fine until today when I rebooted the email server and started getting support calls saying that when users where selecting the To: button in a new email that once again they were getting messages saying
that they were not connected to exchange, yet they once again outlook said they were. I then started playing with the host name owa.xxxxxx.net again. This time I changed the hosts file on a box and pointed the internal IP of the exchange server to that
host name. Restarted the outlook client and things started to work as they should. I have played with split DNS to see if this would help so I wouldn't have to do this with every client in the network, and it was promising until I realized that we many hosts
that use this domain and an external DNS server that takes care of these requests that now the internal users will never reach. Funny part is that if we take one of our laptops out side the network everything works fine as well.
So I'm guessing that some of the processes that connect Outlook to Exchange use the FQDN of the server or IP address, and that other things such as the Global Address Book and Out of Office use the External Host Name.
Any help to point these request at the Internal FQDN/IP would be great, or if someone can think of another way of dealing with this issue would be greatly appreciated.Hi Titan,
correct me if i have missed something but are users able to look up contacts in GAL?
If you update (ex mobile number for a user) then run the following commands(one for each line):
Get-GlobalAddressList | update-GlobalAddressList
Get-AddressList | update-AddressList
Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook
Restart Your Outlook in 5 min, then do a manual OAB download. Is info on that user updated?
Does GAL from frm OWA?
if im not wrong,Status and Out of Office use EWS for status update.
Please run the following command:
Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity “mailserver01\EWS (Default Web Site)” |fl *internalUrl*
where mailserver01 is the server that is having the issue.
Then please check if internal URL is correct for that server (and those that are having issues.

How do I put an 'Out of Office' automatic response to incoming mail please?
I cann't see how to put the 'out of office' message on when on vacation. Please help?!
Using the "rules" method requires that Mail stay running while you are gone and is prone to problems. The biggest problem arrises when you start an "out of office war" with another contact who has done the same thing. Both of your email clients will continually bombard each other with replies.
The best way to set that up is on your email provider's server. You can do this with an Exchange account (in the Account Info settings from within Mail, I think). For an iCloud account, you can set it on the www.icloud.com website under Mail settings.
For other accounts, you will have to ask your email provider. -

Mac Mail: How to prevent out-of-office reply infinite loop
I'm in the habit of sending myself e-minders to my own email. I'm leaving town and enabled my out-of-office reply and later sent myself a message and it created a continuous loop of replies that would have overwhelmed my inbox had I not caught it. Is there a way to avoid this? I set up rules saying only to reply if "From" did not include my email address but the loop still happened.
Thanks for your input!Get yourself another email address, like Gmail and forward to it instead of using the vacation message feature.
