hey all i was chaging the resolution yesturday on the main screen and i told to go to 1920X1200 and thats when i got the out fo scan message from teh moniter. i did a force shut down since i couldnt see what i was doing and i thought it wasnt going to remember the screen size. WRONG. now i have to start up from my ATI card and after startup switch back to the Nvida card and im back to normal. its normal size that i like it at is 1152X870. it works great. but for some reason i didnt get the comfirmation 15 second delay thing. HELP!!! im stumped!

Since that is a CRT monitor, if it has separate power and video cables, you can try resetting the PRAM in the monitor itself. To do this, power everything down, disconnect the video cable from the Mac. Then turn the monitor on, wait 15 to 20 seconds, then turn it off; wait about 10 seconds, then repeat the cycle, 3 or 4 times. Then reconnect the video cable and boot back up.

Screen Resolution is "Out of Scan Range" -- Need Help Re-Setting

My daughter accidentally set her screen resolution on her Mac Mini too high for the Sony monitor we have attached. The screen went blank and then flashed "Out of Scan Range", at which time she then confirmed the higher setting by hitting "return". So now we're stuck - a totally blank screen.
I tried booting in Safe Mode and found that the screen was once again properly set to 1024 x 768, so I thought we had this solved. But when re-starting in regular mode, the screen went blank again ... its as if safe mode is not "saving" the reverted screen size for regular boot mode. My last test was to try to boot from the CD installer, but the only option is to re-install the OS from scratch, something I'd really like NOT to do.
Any other ideas on how to restore the screen settings?

[SOLVED] Xorg 'Out of Scan Range, Change Timing Signal'

Hi, all!
I'm just doing a fresh install and having done my first reboot, I am trying desperately to configure X, before installing xfce.
I have an ATI Radeon card and a Sun-GDM5410 21" CRT monitor. Unfortunately, when I do 'startx', I get a message on my monitor saying
'Out of scan range...change timing signal'
I've tried created custom Xorg files instead of letting Xorg work it out, itself. This didn't solve the problem. So as not to further confuse myself, I have rm'd these files and have let X manage itself, again.
I've read and re-read the Xorg and ATI wiki guides, and Google'd around, but I can't get around this.
Any help really appreciated.

I did. I think it may be something to do with module that are loaded, possibly kms?

Out of scan range when hooked to ethernet?!

Okay, this one has me totally stumped and I can't find anything similar. I just gave my dad an old B&W G3 (that I had been using for the past year) and he had a cable modem installed over the weekend. The ethernet cable from the modem plugs directly into the built-in jack on the back of the Mac. He says that whenever he restarts with the ethernet cord plugged in, his 17" monitor gives him an out of scan range message. If he unplugs the jack and restarts, his original resolution comes back and everything is fine. For the life of me, I can't figure out what one has to do with the other. Got any ideas? This never happened while I was using it with my DSL...

Start up the computer without the Ethernet jack plugged in and then search the entire hard disk for files which have a name containing com.apple.windowserver. If any files which match this criteria have a series of numbers after windowserver, note down their location and move them to the desktop. A plist file with name containing a series of numbers is only consulted when the computer's MAC address matches those numbers; if no Ethernet cable is plugged in, the computer may be ignoring the file which causes your issue.

[SOLVED] extremetux racer out of scan range

Hi All,
This has happened with other games as well and on other distros, but I've never been able to cure it. I have a GeForce 6200 with an 22" NEC monitor running @ 1680x1050 nvidia driver 295.20. Start extremetuxracer="out of scan range", I assume that it doesn't like the resolution but I can't find a config file to tweak. This also happens on some other games. My 6 year old boy REALLY wants to play extremetuxracer so if anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Easy.
First let's find out how to start it by listing the installed files for the "extremetuxracer" package.
# pacman -Ql extremetuxracer
Actually... let's filter it by anything "bin" so that we don't have to scroll up like a mad hyena:
# pacman -Ql extremetuxracer | grep bin

Good. Now let's have a look in our user dir. Oh, whaddya know, there's an ".etracer" folder in there. With an "options" file inside... Now isn't that convenient? You can either delete this file and it will revert to the 800x600 default, or you can edit it. Your choice.

Newest OS. Never happened with old OS! Cycling phone on/off does not help. Ignoring message causes phone to cycle off then on. After first time this happened, I restored. I have not tried that...I will look up the process so that I can do it correctly (and still transfer all of my files, contacts, etc). Any suggestions? What is the advantage of restoring as a new device..is this more akin to a complete wipe of a hard drive?

Error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.

I was trying to deploy my solution thru Visual studio then iam getting an eror saying "error occurred in deployment step 'Add Solution': Specified argument was out of the range of valid values." but its not displaying which argument is out
of range. I am not getting any error when i buil the solution. Build was succussfull. I am able to succussfully deploy manually if take the .WSP from bin folder and deploy manually using stsadm command. the issue with that is if i want to dubug
i am not able to do that.
what could be the issue and where.

what is the content of that feature ? is that a master page? just a normal feature?
is there any dependencies on that feature ? did u get any errors in the event viewer ?

Macbook with sony cpd-e500

Hello,
I just recently got a sony cpd-e500 (21" vga crt). I hooked it up to my macbook and it works fine but mac os doesn't want to output to the full resolution of the monitor. I am running bootcamp on the Macbook and tried the display under Windows XP and it recognizes the full resolution of the monitor (2048 x 1536). I know the macbook cannot output at that resolution, but the monitor can also handle 1900x1200 which the macbook under mac os can (should) support. What could be my problem as to why I'm limited to 1600x1200 max?

The Mac will output video according to 1) what it is capable of, and 2) what the display is capable of. You are right that a MacBook can't output 2048 x 1536, so reason 1 is why you don't get that choice in Displays preferences. As for why you aren't seeing 1920 x 1200 in Displays preferences, that is most likely from reason 2. I am guessing that 1920 x 1200 is not contained within the plug and play driver in the Sony, so the Mac isn't aware the monitor is capable of handling it.
May I ask why you want to run 1920 x 1200 on that monitor? The image on the screen will looked distorted at that resolution because it is a wide format resolution and the e500 is a standard, not wide, 4:3 aspect ratio monitor. It seems like 1600 x 1200 would be the best choice.
If you really want 1920 x 1200 in the mix, you can use a program like SwitchRes X to add it to Displays preferences.

To to update a friend's 10.8 Mac, who lives out of Internet range, I used to take her downloaded Software Update files on my USB drive. With 10.8.2 her machine now rejects my update files and insists it must have Internet access. How do I help her in future? There are many remote places in Australia where there is no Internet access, not even dialup.

You should be able to update OS X without Internet. As she is running OS X 10.8, download OS X 10.8.2 Combo and OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update, copy them to a USB drive and install them in this order. You shouldn't be prompted to connect the computer to the Internet

Can I receive a GPS signal when out of WIFi range, ie at sea. I recently bought 2 Navionics charts, but when I tried to use one while at sea it wouldn't find my position, presumably because I had no WiFi.

'Out of present range' file transfer er

This is the error I get when I try to copy certain mp3's from my pc to my player. I found out which ones do that. They are the ones who's attributes say Track: -, Year: 0 in the actual explorer folder source. I think these were the tracks that were originally ripped from CD. Any help on how to fix this strange problem? Thanks

This is a VB error listed from winerror.h. -2147352566 (8002000A) Out of present range. It is not an Oracle Error, so proper debugging actions have to be taken on the VB side to determine if this is due to an Oracle retrieval/transactional operation, or an specific VB coding issue.

Ifconfig shows only 1 out 3 SCAN ips

We have configured SCAN to resolve to 3 IPs in the DNS as per the oracle Doc. SCAN is working fine. I used nslookup several times to verify round robin . It is fine.
The SCAN IPs are

For HA and load balance purposes SCAN IPs can be distributed b/w nodes. So, it is valid expected behavior. As SCAN can have maximum of three scan IPs, so for three or more nodes cluster maximum of three nodes will have SCAN IPs running.
