Out of sync in Final Cut Pro 6

I shot a musical audition in SD on a Panasonic 3CCD camera. I'm using Log and Capture in FCP6 on my MacBook Pro, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM). I wanted this audition separate from others I've filmed, so I copied my previous sequence and deleted the video from it, then I brought in the new clip. After a few seconds, the audio and video go out of sync. I checked the sequence settings and they are the same as my original sequence. I tried ajusting the capture settings in Log and Capture Window (I chose DV NTSC 48K Anamorphic, which corresponds to my sequence settings, as best as I can tell (below):
720 x 480 NTSC DV (3:2)
NTSC- CCIR 601/DV (720 x 480) Anamorphic 16:9
Lower (even)
DV/DCPRO-NTSC
Editing timebase 29.97
48 Khz
16-bit audio
The footage isn't out of sync when I watch the being captured. I've tried several times, and yes, I zoomed in at the head of the clip to make sure I hadn't somehow bumped the audio tracks out of alignment!
Can anyone tell me what is happening here?
Thanks,
Andy

Oops. That's where I thought I was. Sorry.

  • HD import footage out of sync in Final Cut Pro X.

I am finally using my Final Cut Pro X and just got a Canon Vixia HF G10. I imported my first footage just a quick sample - only 25 seconds. The audio is not in sync with picture. In iMovie HD it plays perfectly but I need to use Final Cut Pro X. This picture also seems jumpier - not sure why. I have an importance project to get going on and need some help in fixing this problem.

    Workflow:
Some of the AVI files he gave me were not accepted by MPEG Streamclip. He then burned the files to a dvd for me which I brough into MPEG Streamclip and exported to DV. This is how I got the exported file:
I did not change anything...just hit "export to DV"
For the files he gave me as AVI's (which he forgot to burn for me) I opened those in QT Pro and did save as to give me an MOV. When I tried to export it, it gave me the wrong size as there was no option to export 720x480 16:9....

  • Audio And Video out of sync in Final Cut, but not in quicktime

I heave searched the forums to no end to find the solution to this issue, unfortunatley, I have not solved the problem.
I am using Final Cut 4.5 on a G4 running OSX 10.3.4. This system has worked perfectly for years with no problems. Neither the system, hardware, or software has ever been changed on this machine. Suddenly last week, despite perfect sync while previewing the capture, the Audio and Video were of sync in Final Cut, but when checked in quicktime, there were no problems. That is how I eventually figured out this was a final cut problem.
By out of sync, I don't mean it is by a specific number of frames that can be adjusted and then everything is fine, the sync seems to drift so that if you edit the audio to be in sync in one part of the video, it won't be at the end. Also, it is out of sync from the first frame played, not a gradual drift.
This is definitely not an issue of frame rates or final cut settings as will be evident by the steps I took below to find the source of this problem.
This is what I did to attempt to fix the problem:
    - Check drives using disc utility and repair permissions
    - Remove Final Cut Preferences using Apple guidelines
    - Switch hard drives
    - Delete Final Cut and reinstall newer version of final cut (since the capture files played fine on Final Cut 5.1 on another machine)
    - reinstall entire OSX 10.3.9, wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Final Cut 5.1
    - switch ram slots, and even replace ram with different sticks from another G4 machine
None of these solutions worked. Is there some hardware problem with my G4 that is suddenly causing Final Cut to play audio and video out of sync?
Hope you can help, otherwise this otherwise great G4 is going in the dumpster!
    Thanks

For what it's worth, I'm having what looks to be the same problem. Driving me insane. Here's what's going on-
    Editing in FCP 6.0.2
QT was just updated to 7.3.1 the other day (hmm)
On an MacBookPro machine, OS 10.5.1
Software updater says everything's up to date of course.
    DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown Removal (footage was shot at 24PA on a DVX100b)
In Quicktime, the file previews fine, everything's in sync, everyone's happy. In FCP, the video and audio are wildly out of sync. I did a test inside of quicktime and sliced out a small portion of the media clip and did a "save as" and this small slice played in sync in FCP. However, this did not work for the entire clip. Clip is weighing in at 5.58GB for a 32 minute run.
I'm trying to multicam 2 tapes together and manually syncing these up is proving to be difficult at best. When anyone gets any ideas/leads/patches, let us know.

  • Fade Out to White in Final Cut Pro (FCP)

Could someone please show me how to do add a fade-to-white transition in Final Cut Pro (FCP)? (Instead of black, which is default.) I want to be able to do both: 1) fade to white; 2) and white to the picture. An example clip:
    http://www.allfilters.com/campingfilters/gravityfed/platypus-gravityworks-filter
    *Click on the "Videos" tab.
This clip ends with "fade to white." I want to apply the same effect in the beginning (white to movie).
    Thank you in advance.

Effects > Video Transitions > Dissolve> Dip to Color Dissolve ... add it at the start and end
Double click the transition at the start (the Fade In) to open it in the Viewer and change the Color property to White. For extra credit you can change the Start value to 50%. Then double click the transition at the end (the Fade Out) to open it in the Viewer and again change the Color property to White. For extra credit change the End value to 50%.
Or another way would be to use Effects > Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid to create a "White" clip and then use that to dissolve into and out of your edit using a regular Cross Dissolve transition or by placing the Color Solid on another layer and the keyframing the opacity.
    Hope it helps

  • Blanking/blurring out specific visuals in final cut pro?

I have a feeling that this is more suitable for the motion support forum, but is there a quick and easy way to blank out say a car number plate or logo on a t-shirt in final cut? The blurring doesn't have to be spot on, just enough for legal reasons.
    Thanks
    Alex

thanks for that! Which folder do i drop the app into? It says on the link you provided to drop it into /Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins, but that path doesn't exist on my mac. I get to the Application Support folder and there isn't a folder for Final Cut Pro. I assume i just need to drop the Region Blur into the effects folder?
    Thanks

  • Video out of sync in Final Cut Express... but in sync everywhere else!

'm working on making one video that is composed of two camera angles of the same thing. So, I have two video tracks in Final Cut Express, one for the side view, and one for the main view. Both videos are Quicktime Movies (.mov extension).
    Here are the file details:
    Main Cam: duration - 1hr 26min 46sec // file size - 5.74gb
    Side Cam: duration - 1hr 29min 18sec // file size - 5.63gb
[the side cam video is a little longer because I started filming with that camera a little bit before the main cam and stopped the filming a little earlier]
Now, here's the problem. Both videos are in my Final Cut Express project. The Main Cam video runs fine. But the Side Cam video's video is out of sync with the audio by a lot (somewhere between 2 and 6 full seconds). Normally I would think that something had happened during the filming, but here's the odd thing: the Side Cam video plays perfectly in sync out of Final Cut Express.
If I open it in Quicktime, or even in iMovie, the audio and video are perfectly in sync for the entirely of the video. But when I import it into FCE and watch it there, whether it's in the timeline, in the viewer, rendered, or unrendered (I've tried them all), it's horribly out of sync.
So, the video plays fine and in sync everwhere except for in the Final Cut Express program. The Main Cam video, which has a very similar duration and file size and which is the same file type, plays perfectly even in FCE. The only problem is the Side Cam, and I can't figure out why this is, or how to fix it.
Another thing: these videos were not captured from a camera into Final Cut. I already have the video files on the computer, and as I've said, the audio is fine there. To get them into FCE, I use file -> import.
Also, if anyone has suggestions on how to fix this, could you provide directions of some sort? I'm fairly new to Final Cut.
Any advice would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much in advance!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Does both camcorders was set to 16-48 khz audio?
One way to synch audio that drifting from video (or from anoter audio lenght) is to set precisely 2 markers (one near the beginning, another near the end) in the correct lenght video track. Try to find spots where you can hear and see a common reference. The result of the workaround will put a corrected audios between those points only.
Now note the duration between those 2 markers in video track.
*Unlink the video/audio clip with the wrong duration.*
Select the drifting audio and put the 2 markers at the intended reference points.
The duration should be less or more than the video.
Use the blade tool to cut the wrong lenght audio at markers.
The tips is to set a new duration for this portion with the set speed command.
With this +new duration+, align the in point of audio with the first video marker. The out point of audio should be aligned with the second video marker.
Now the audio should match the video lenght and should be in synch.

  • General error and out of memory with Final Cut Pro 6

I just upgraded to a Mac mini i7. What setting should I use to avoid these errors?

So you were successful in getting FCS 2 apps installed in Mountain Lion?
Are these messages you're getting now or ones that you have gotten in the past using FCP?
Out of memory warnings often caused by still images that are not RGB or trying to use unsupported media.

  • Running out of Space with Final Cut Pro X 10.1.1

I have a 1 TG external hard drive that I have been using for the FCPX Library.
I check the properties and it is using 657.72GB of space. I have deleted all movies, files, music with on FCPX. I clearned the trash can and restarted my system and FCP Library file is still showing 657.72GB being used. I have a blank project FCP will not let me delete because it says you have to have at least one.
Has anyone else run into this problem. I am running out of space to do my video's and this is really annoying.
    I really appreciate your help

You deleted all your movies? How did you do that? And what do you mean by movies? Do you mean the clips that you imported into FCP? When you imported, was it from a camera's memory card or from your computer? And do the clips exist anywhere else on your computer?
Sorry about all the questions, but just trying ensure that there are no misunderstandings due to terminology issues that might lead to problematic advice.

  • How Can I do an export that from Final Cut Pro 7 that is specific to these settings?

    Hi
I am current trying to export out a movie from Final Cut Pro 7 but the settings that are required are very specific and I was going to try it through compressor as well but I wasn't sure if that would work either.
    Here are the settings:
    HD:
    1 Video CODEC                 XDCAMHD50
    2 Wrapper format           QuickTime Self-Contained
3 Bit rate                              50 Mbit/s Constant Bit Rate (CBR)
    4 GOP                                   Long GOP
                                                 Closed GOP
5 Time code                       Must include embedded time code. Start-timecode: 10:00:00:00
6 Movie version               UK Home Video Version
7 Delivery time                 As per contract. Supplier to specify filename, delivery format and estimated time of arrival via email at least 60 days before                                                           transmission unless otherwise specified in contract. This should be accompanied by an IMDB link.
    1 HD video format           720 line progressively scanned (720p) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
                                              1080 line interlace scanned (1080i) @ 50Hz (25 FPS)
    2 Resolution                      1280 x 720
                                               1920 x 1080
3 Aspect ratio                    Content should be 16:9, however 4:3 will be accepted on exception (such as for older movies shot in 4:3)
4 Graphics                           Must be within 16:9 safe graphics area (EBU R95-2000)
    5 Chroma format              4:2:2
1 HD audio format           24 bits/sample 48 kHz sampling rate
    2 Track layout                    Track 1 – 2.0 Stereo L mono
                                                Track 2 – 2.0 Stereo R mono
                                                Track 3 – L
                                                Track 4 – R
                                                Track 5 – C
Track 6 - Low frequency effects LFE
                                                Track 7 – L Surround
                                                Track 8 – R Surround

First of all, what are your sequence settings?  Looks like they want stereo AND dolby 5.1 audio tracks embedded in the quicktime (I've delivered a few films like this).  Do you have a surround sound mix?
You will almost always have more options and control in compressor over fcp so that's the way I'd go, but not sure compressor will give you the ability to match these specs.
Do you understand about safe zones for graphics?  If not, post back.
I don't see any option to set the GOP in xdcam in compressor.  This may be built in to the xdcam format.
I don't see any option for 720 xdcam hd in compressor.
There are many other tools available for this kind of work, but they may be out of your price range.  You might want to just find a facility with experience in deliverying this sort of thing.

  • Is out of sync audio because of Final Cut Pro X or DVD-R 8x?

Hi, I tried burning a 2 hour DVD straight from Final Cut Pro X (with it's featured menu).  I used an Imation DVD-R 8x, and the burn went through successfully.  However, the footage turned out pixelated and I noticed about halfway through that the audio was getting out of sync.  I went back to check my sequence in FCPX to make sure I hadn't made a mistake and everything is alright.  Was this an issue with the DVD I was using, or with FCPX's DVD exporting?

In FCPX, Share>DVD>Settings>Output Device>Hard Drive. That will make a disk image.
If you have iDVD, great choice. Just Share>Master File, and brong that into iDVD. The iDVD app will do the encoding and give you a disk image option as well.

  • Mini-Dvi to Video out from Final Cut Pro working

Thanx Everybody for posting reply for my post regarding running video out to external TV from Final Cut Pro in MacBook.
    It's working fine.

@ Studio X : The files were originally created with Final Cut Pro, rendered out to QuickTime, then are being played back with Final Cut Pro. The file that has the most noticable studdering is a 60-minute timeline sequence in Final Cut. All files are being stored and played back from the Mac Mini's internal hard drive. Everything was originally shot on DV and formatted for a 4:3 aspect ratio.
@ Shane Ross : Are there any settings in the MacOS or FCP where I can improve the HDMI video signal? Or do you know of / have any experience with Firewire to HDMI converters? Unfortunately, my new signal path relies on HDMI from the video playback.
My current setup uses the Firewire output, which is then converted to composite video & analog audio using a pair of ageing DV tape decks. That setup is becoming troublesome due to age.

  • I export from final cut pro 7 to idvd everything comes out fuzzy on the dvd

I film using a canon fs10. I edit in final cut pro 7, then export to quicktime format, then I burn the dvd using idvd. But the final product always comes out blurry and fuzzy. I can't see what I am doing wrong. Is it because I am not filming in HD?

Using iMovie, for one, is capturing your files to a codec other than one FCP wants to work with. You would be better off dragging and dropping the files from the camera to a folder on an external drive and converting the footage with MPEG Streamclip to whatever codec you want to work in.
Using iDVD to compress and author the dvd takes away any control you have over the compression settings for the project.
You'd be well off getting a FCP training book from someplace like Peachpit Press, or a training dvd from someone here or out there who produces them.
