Out of the blue, syncing my iPod crashes my PC.
Had this iPod for about two years, and other than some minor click wheel issues, I haven't had any problems.
The other day, I plugged the iPod in and Windows told me that I would have to format the iPod. At first I ignored it and tried to see if it would still work, but iTunes wouldn't recognize it so I first tried to Restore. No luck.
So I tried to let Windows format the iPod, but it couldn't finalize the formatting.
Now, when I plug it in it crashes my PC with some brief message about "shutting down Windows so there won't be any damage".
I've Restored, Reset...and even updated and Reinstalled, even though seemingly this is a problem with the hardware, not the software.
I can't tell if the iPod is capable of playing anything because of the format, but other than that, everything seems to be in working condition.
I can't find any helpful information online, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
A little update:
Connecting and syncing the iPod no longer crashes my PC, but...
...when I connect it now, Windows still tells me that I need to format Drive (N:), which is obviously the iPod. When I ignore that, iTunes recognizes the iPod and says "This iPod is corrupted, try restoring it"...which I do, without luck.
I am now formatting the iPod, again.

You cannot back up your Mac to iCloud. Even backing the whole thing up to another online service would be dubious because it would take a very long time. You should buy an external hard disk and back up to that - even better, buy two and use one to make a Time Machine backup and the other to clone your Mac from time to time, thus giving you a backup from which you can boot in an emergency.
If you wanted to back up a suitably sized selection of data to an online service there are a number of third-party methods available, some of which are examined here:

Ok one day out of the blue my ipod just stopped working it wouldnt turn on nothing but after recovering it, it's fine now but there is only one problem my screen wont work i can't do anything on it not even unlock it please someone help!!!!
Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order -

- Transfer iTunes purchases to the computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
- Transfer other music by using a thrird-party program like one of thos discussed here:
Copy music
- Connect the old iPd to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPOd under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
- Restore the new iPod from that backup. You will have to reeenter passwords since they only get restored to same device. -
Out of the blue flickering and iCal won't quit
We bought our iMac 20" last January 2008 and it has worked perfectly. I have installed all updates. After the last update (and I really don't know if it is just coincidence...) iCal won't quit unless it is forced. All data is gone. It might also have something to do with the last time I synced my iPod...?
More troubling, the screen has started flickering... almost shutting down at points. However, it is not on a regular basis and seemingly out of the blue...?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.Wilrez,

Regarding the iCal issue, if you used Software Update for installing OS X 10.5.7, you may want to try reinstalling the update using the Mac OS X 10.5.7 Combo Update.
Let us know what happens with both problems after the reinstallation.

Out of the blue, all of my purchased ringtones and music aren't displayed anymore on my iPhone.
I went to iTunes to see if they were stored there, but the downloads folder also appears to be empty. If I try to select a ringtone I've downloaded before, a popup appears saying that I've already purchased that item and asking if I want to cancel or buy. If I click on buy, then I pay for the item again even if I already have it! The only place I can still see my purchased items is in the iTunes application on my computer, but even though I've already selected sync, the ringtones and songs still won't appear on my iPhone.
What happeneded and how can I get them back without having to pay for them all over again?
Thank you!I'm having the same problem on an iphone 4s running iOS8; when i updated to iOS8, all my ringtones went missing, and when i got a £50 gift card for christmas (2014), I purchased some songs from the iTunes store on my iPhone. i downloaded songs from paramore, panic! at the disco, coldplay, and imagine dragons, over wi-fi, and they went into my iphone music library; but when i re-opened the music app a few days later, in a place where i had no wi-fi, except for my 3G phone signal, some cloud icons appeared next to my newly purchased songs, telling me to re-download them from the cloud, when i haven't even deleted them. this has happened twice now, and i had to use up some of my 5GB data allowance to redownload them from the cloud. This is annoying and i need to fix this issue ASAP.

Upon start up of my laptop I get a APS Daemon.exe system error - MSVCR80.dll is missing. This just started out of the blue. At one point it told me to reinstall ITunes. Is that truly necessary?
I have the same issue after installing the new update and reinstalling iTunes doesn't fix the issue.
I found disabling Apple push (APSDaemon.exe) from the start up will stop the error from appearing, however this will disable wireless syncing. If you don't use it than it shouldn't be an issue.
I'm using a PC so you can disable it using the msconfig command and turning it off in the Startup tab. I don't know if Mac users are experiencing the same issue. Hopefully Apple will fix it in their next update. -
Voice speech activates out of the blue
I've run with my nano recently and it behaves strangely. Out of the blue (when the screen is off) voice speech activates and "talks" about songs which are played. It goes on and on. Additionally, sometimes song is skipped, forwarded or put on hold like the side bar is pressed (but I'm sure I don't touch anything).

New BT Vision Box delivered out of the blue
I have had a brand new black BT Vision Box delivered this morning out of the blue(I currently have on of the old silver boxes). The letter indicated that they were issueing everyone with a new box due to features being rolled out and that the silver box will stop working in 28 days. I have an almost full hard drive of programs and films and there is no way of transfering the data accross. They advise us to watch everything before sending the box back in a prepaid envelope.
As I don't want anything new to be recorded on the old box can I set up my new black box and still watch the recordings on the old box?

Yes you can, but what you would need to do is -
leave the silver box plugged in to the mains and connected to the hub via the ethernet cable
then remove the ethernet cable from the silver box and connect this cable to the black box
switch the black box on and allow it to boot up
The silver box will then run and allow you to watch your recorded content
(putting the silver box in to standby is fine, but don't unplug the mains supply)

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

In iPhoto I have lost the double click that opensup photos, the double click now appears as a ! in a triangle. At the same time I have lost the print facility in iPhoto. This happened out of the blue and I have been unable to reconcile either problem. Can anyone help please.
BillThe ! means that iPhoto has lost connection to the origianl file.
There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
- History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
- Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have. -
Out of the blue, am unable to open Word attachments in Mail with the usual double click. (Get a longwinded error message)
Need to right click, select open with, and select Microsoft Word. Have been using Microsoft Office for Mac 08 for years.

When I type my email address in the "To:" field, a random name comes up next to it as "Holidays in United States". This just started happening out of the blue and I have no idea why. Does anyone else have any idea?
Just to recap, this is a collection of ports I have collected over time for people who needed this information when setting up the HP ePrint app so that they could view their email from within the app. I am certain other applications also need this information. Although lengthy, I could not find a more comprehensive place to retrieve this information. Feel free to post additional information, faulty information, or other related topics below as this is simply a collection of data and it would be practically impossible to test all of them. PB-12 HD died out of the blue!
Has anyone had their HD die on them Out of the blue?
My laptop was working fine one minute, and when I went back to it a few minutes later, it was frozen. I tried to start it from the Power Button and it would not start again. The daisy wheel just spun and spun.
I Talked to a Apple tech and he informed me that the HD looked as if it were the problem. I took it to an Apple partner store and now have been waiting for over 2 weeks for a new HD.
The worse part was that I wanted to do a routine back up of my Home folder, but waited a day as it was my sons birthday! Now I have lost all my Notes, documents etc... Everything. Luckily there were no photos or music on the laptop, they're all on the PowerMac.

I have never had this happen personally (knock wood), but as a service tech I have seen it happen. Hardware can fail with no warning, and there can be a number of reasons why. I am sorry that it happened so suddenly to you, but rest assured you are not alone out there. I hope your new hard drive gives you many years of reliable service!

Why do I get sometimes my macbook to do white noise out of the blue? It's a new mac so is it faulty?
Never heard of that problem - seems as if something may be affecting your speakers, somehow.
If you're still under warranty, you should take your machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them check it out. Even if you're not still under warranty, the diagnosis and estimate for repair will be free.
