Out of the box macbook pro, not charging

Hi,
I just purchased a Macbook Pro yesterday. I did as indicated and waited till the battery was fully charged before I unplugged it upon first use. As soon as it said "fully charged" I unplugged it and it showed 96% battery life. I used my laptop today and reached 60% of my battery life. I decided to plug it in, once again it reached "fully charged" and as soon as I unplugged it is only shows 97% charged.
I know that they are designed not to fully charge but shouldnt I be expecting closer to 100% capacity out of the box ?
Thank you

  • Out of the Box MacBook Pro does not burn DVD DL

    Hi
My new out of the Box MacBook Pro 2,8 Ghz, 500 GB HD does not burn DVD DL.
Its telling me something like "Servo Error" in Toast 10.0.4 and also iTunes with a big playlist in DataDVD burn mode does not get the job of burning a DVD DL done.
    It makes me soooo sad.
I had problems with my DVD Drive on my Power Book G4 12", also on my MacBook 2,16 Ghz even after a repair it would not burn DVD DL.
    So what to do?

    Hi
    Thanks for the tips.
Well since its a absolutely new MacBook Pro it should burn DL as stated on the Box. So I call the store and they will sent me a new one. That worked very nice and smoothly, so here on costumer care apple is on the very big side.
I hope the new one will burn em right away.
You know: Why do they put such bad drives in their so nicely build MacBooks? I don't get it at all. Maybe we are short before Bluray and so they putting inn all the old drives.... Who knows.
Its well know that apple is not using very good drives in their computers.
Na ja so ist es halt.
    Keep the good work up!

  • Out of the box macbook pro 15" c2d problems

    evening all,
right out of the box, i have had kernel panics every time i boot my new macbook pro c2d. i have also had the awake from sleep problem some people seem to be having. i am also unable to install either boot camp, parallels, or vmware. i have tried winxp, 2000 and vista in every combination. every time i try it corrupts the volume beyond repair and i have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall os x. i am getting worn out by banging my head against the wall. i thought this stuff was supposed to be easy. when i went to check on the firmware version for my macbook pro 15" c2d i noticed that i have the boot rom version and the smc version installed for original 17" macbook pro not the c2d version. it won't let me change the firmware back to a 15" c2d. it is showing MBP12.0061.B03 1.5f10 and i should have MBP22.00A5.B00 1.12f5 according to apple specs.
i will try to reset my smc, but the pram can not be reset via the usual keyboard combination because it just doesn't work like it did on my powerbook.
i am also going to try disabling the hibernate mode as suggested via terminal.
i am going to try trashing the plist preferences for the .AutoWake, PowerManagement and the systemuiserver.
i also have the problem when reinstalling os x several times that the optical drive gets stuck reading the original system disks and i have to start all over again. whew!!!
btw, i am a hardware tech but this is too much of a waste of time.
any other suggestions are very welcome.
    macbook pro 15" c2d Mac OS X (10.4.9) tricked out powerbook 15"

here is an update for everyone, or at least you will get a good laugh out of it. I sent the macbook to applecare to be fixed and I just got it back. they replaced the harddrive and restored the os.
guess what? I turned it on and it had a kernel panic! then I tried to set up a user account and it had a ......... kernel panic! I had to laugh, what else can you do at this point?
they didn't fix what i told the tech support guy was the biggest issue on this machine. the boot room version is still MBP21.00a5.B01 which is for the 17" C2D. it is paired with the smc version 1.12f5 which is the version apple has listed for the 15" version. tried to change the boot room but it tells me it does not need the correction. everyone knows best yet i still get ....... kernel panics.....! lmao
here is the last kernel panic log if anyone is interested:

  • New out of the box MacBook Pro with Caps Lock/Num Lock lit keys

I just set up my brand new MacBook Pro 15" laptop and, right out of the box, the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys were lit up. I didn't think anything of it, and transferred all my user files from my old PowerBook G4. Well, they 2 keys seem to be working in reverse. When Caps Lock is lit up green, all characters are in lower case. Same as Num Lock. Any advice? Do I have a lemon?
    Thanks!

I've also had this problem twice over the past couple of weeks.
I have a theory that it has something to do with plugging in my USB mouse during the system boot. A reboot cured it both times though, and it's not gotten tot he point that it's annoying enough to investigate further.

  • Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different plug sockets, different plugs/cables, help

Just got a new IPAD3, straight out of the box, but I cant charge it, I have tried with the power plug and cable out of the box that came with it but no joy, i have tried resetting the iPad but still no joy, have tried different mains plug sockets around the house with no joy, I have tried different USB mains plugs but again no joy, I tried using my new iPad cable into the USB port of my MacBook Pro laptop but still no joy, then, I tried using my old iPod classic cable into my MacBook Pro and that worked, so I have a way of charging my new iPad3 but its not practical as i have to take my MacBook Pro everywhere if I want to charge it which kind of defeats the object of having an iPad, has anybody experienced anything similar and how was it fixed? can anybody help me please...

    Grumpy Gator,
Please note it did say at the store's discretion, but people have actually been able to return it to the on-line store. (I only saw a couple who tried.)
And given the outcry, I would think Apple might have other Apple stores join in. Just in case, though, if you can, you might bring it in today.
If it's an ARS, my guess is they can stick to their 14 day return. Apple cannot force them to do it. SO if it's not bought directly from Apple, and it's past the 14 day deal, I'd bring it in to the store today if you have one. When I gave people the cnet.com site, I gave it so people could read it and know only Apple had made the decision for Apple. And I suggested to some that an Apple reseller would probably stick with their own return policy.
Because Arnie had just bought his, he should be able to return it to Apple or an ARS because an ARS has to have some kind of full refund or at least return for credit within 7 or 14 days of purchase.
    Hope this helps.

As Tom said the FCS forum is the better place to post the question.

  • Issue with MacBook Pro (Not Charging)

I'm not extremely computer savvy with Macs, so bear with me when you give instructions.
I've had this 15'' MacBook Pro since 2010 for when I entered college. I've been using it since this year. Up until the last week my charger has been not charging very well. The ports are clean and well managed, no prongs or pieces have been worn away; physically the notebook and charger have been kept well since I received it.
This problem started copping up last week. When I attach it to the MacBook Pro the LED light does not come on and the info spot on the top tells me (Not Charging) and even after receiving the low battery warning and plugged in it still tells me that there is no charge and will drain itself despite being plugged in.
Now if I power down the notebook it charges as usual. No issues.
As far as I remember this was NEVER an issue. For the past two years I remember sitting on my dorm bed many a time and when the warning came up I would go get the charger and plug it in and let it charge as I continued to work. It would charge and have no problems with the notebook being run at the same time as the charging.
As I type it is plugged in and seems to have a delay in deciding to charge. I received the warning and plugged it in, it took about 10 minutes until it started deciding to charge with a orange light.
This computer has a healthy charging basis; I oftern drain it completely and let it recharge fully without any interuptions while it is off.
Now it seems as if running it and charging it simultaneously has become a problem often. Why is this?
    Thanks.

You may need a new battery. Draining the battery all the way to zero is not good for the battery. It will shorten its life span.
Take it to an Apple Genius Bar and have it checked out.

  • MacBook Pro not charging iPod Touch 4G!

Hello. Today I plugged in my iPod Touch 4th Generation into my 2011 MacBook Pro 13" and it started charging, but about 15 seconds later it would stop charging it and I would have to unplug it and then plug it to charge it again. I grew suspicious that something was wrong with my iPod and not my Mac, but when I plugged my iPod into an outlet, it charged all the way with no problems. Is something in my MacBook denying the charging of my iPod Touch 4G and how do I fix it??
I also don't want this to effect syncing issues as well, and converting music to iTunes from my iPod.

Did you tried rebooting the Mac?
    Tried another USB port?
    Did it work OK before?
When the Mac sleeps the USB ports will not charge the iPod.

  • MacBook pro not charging. Charging light is not coming up

My Macbook pro's battery was down to 2% so I shut it down and kept in for charging. But the charger's green light or the orange light indicating charging didn't come. I checked the power supply and it was fine. The charger has the slight hum indicating it is getting the power but macbook is not charging and the lights are not coming on. My Macbook is a late 2011 model of 13"

  • Macbook pro not charging: logic board, battery or magsafe?

My macbook pro (13" late 2011) has been charging fine until today. When i plug in the magsafe power adapter (i did clean it and the port) it only lights up dimly and green. The battery also says "Not Charging" and the computer entirely feeds on the power adapter. I've tried SMC and PRAM reset, and changing the duckhead adapter to the ones included when you buy the macbook but neither worked. I did the Apple Hardware Test and it said everything is normal. I tried charging it at 10% but it wasn't charging so i disconnected it and waited for the warning on 3% but it still didn't charge and the battery % isn't going down or up either when plugged. I also had the fan replaced a month ago but only got it back a few days ago.

  • Macbook pro (not charging) problem

Hi i am new to this community
I know a similar post has been made before but I feel my case is a little weird and would like to know if there's anyone else out there facing the same thing.  So basically the problem is whenever i do anything even remotely graphic intensive, the laptop would say (not charging) and the orange light on the charger turnds green. Like say i watch a youtube video or a high def trailer from www.gametrailers.com, it immediately says not charging for the duration of the video. It 100% happens while gaming without fail even before the laptop starts to rev up.
Does anyone else have this problem?
I have given it to the apple care 3 times and had my battery changed, software updated and the third time in a different place they said this was 'normal'. NORMAL? how can it be normal for a latop to not be able to get charged while doing anything its supposed to be used for. I have never in my life faced this problem while running highly intensive graphic games in much cheaper laptops. Never really expected this problem to come from such a premium brand and at a such a steep price. Especially since they arent even admitting its a problem...

You have exactly the same problem that has been discussed in an endless thread here previously. It has been true of all MBPs since the first ones in 2006 that if pressed to the wall, they could require more power than their AC adapters can supply. Under those circumstances, the first thing to happen is that battery charging ceases (if it was going on in the first place) and the second thing that happens, if the machine's power demand is high enough, is that the battery is drawn upon to make up the deficit. So with any MBP, there is the possibility that under extremely heavy load, the battery won't be charged or will actually be depleted while the AC adapter remains connected.
Very few users ever ran into this with early MBPs, because it was hard to push them to the point of needing more power than their 85W adapters provided. It has become all too common in the 2011 models, with their enormously powerful (and enormously power-hungry) discrete GPUs and the expectation of many users that they will be able to use a notebook for everything they used to do on large desktop computers. I suspect (and this is purely my own hypothesis) that Apple has unintentionally compounded the problem with the automatic GPU switching in recent 15" and 17" MBPs, causing the discrete GPU to be invoked automatically when it isn't really needed and the integrated graphics would suffice, such as when browsing the web. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the problem only arises in the 2011 models when the discrete GPU is in use, so if you turn off automatic switching and limit yourself to the integrated graphics, you may be able to put an end to it, or at least limit its occurrence to times when you're willing and able to cope with it. But it probably does mean that you won't be able to place graphically-intensive 3D action games around the clock without running your battery down, and will need to take breaks of several hours to recharge from time to time.
In other words, it IS normal, though it's also unfortunate.
You might well wonder why Apple doesn't just provide a larger, higher-capacity AC adapter, and the only answer I can suggest (speaking for myself of course, and not for Apple) is that it might not be possible for the MBP in its existing case design to dissipate the additional heat that would be generated by continuing to charge the battery at times of extreme CPU and GPU activity.

  • MacBook pro not charging and it is not the charger

I tried plugging my MacBook pro to its charger and I found the chargers light twitching and it didn't turn into charging and my laptop wasn't charging , now I have bought another charger thinking that my charger was the problem and it is doing the same thing so is there a problem with my MacBook please help !!

You should still be able to 'see' the battery, and it's 'health' in a System report.
    As wjosten wrote:

If your battery is not showing up under Power, you're in  trouble. If it is showing up, you should be able to report its health.

  • MacBook Pro "Not Charging"

Please help me out with this one...
I have a MacBook Pro 15" that I purchased just over a year ago. This last week I noticed that the battery icon (top/right of screen) read "Not Charging". The indicator light on the charger is a faint green. I purchased a new battery, new charger, and made sure I had the latest battery upgrade. Still no charging. What gives. Anyone else experience this? Any fixes?
