Out put to Blu-Ray?

I am finally ready to out put my 80 min. documentary to DVD for selling at film festivals.
Do I go with Blue_Ray? If I do with the cheeper DVD will it be in HD?
Do people without a Blu-Ray player get the benefit of a Blu-Ray disc?

Excerpts from the DVDSP User Manual:
Building the Project
Once you have set the prebuild disc properties, you can build your project. Depending on the size of your project and the speed of your computer and disk drives, this process can take several hours to finish.
To build your project:
Do one of the following:
• ClickBuild in the toolbar.
•          Press Option-Command-C.
Select the drive and folder to build to in the dialog that appears, then click Open.
The build process begins and a progress bar appears that shows the element names currently being compiled. If the selected folder already has a folder of the same type it is generating (VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS), see “Incremental Builds” for details on the dialog that appears.
The Build Files for SD Projects
Once the build for your SD project starts, DVD Studio Pro creates two folders at the location you specified: an AUDIO_TS folder and a VIDEO_TS folder. Additionally, a third folder, JACKET_P, is created if you have assigned a jacket picture graphic.
The AUDIO_TS folder is used by systems authoring DVD-Audio titles. To meet the DVD specification requirements, DVD Studio Pro creates the folder and leaves it empty. The empty folder is included in the format process.
This is NOT rocket science...  It is simple and relatively fast. If you have a Mac that was built in the last decade it will take less than an hour for an 80-minute show.
good luck

    Hi,
Basically nothing stop you to swap the ODD but there are few things you need to consider including driver. The following video may help:

  • Blu-ray DVD no longer recognized by HP MediaSmart or Windows Media Player

I have the HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer. This computer includes a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. I bought this computer in 2010, and all these years I have successfully played CDs and DVDs on the computer. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
A few days ago, I rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD from my public library. The "Divergent" regular DVD was included in the package.
I put the Blu-ray into the CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. The HP MediaSmart software recognized the Blu-ray, but the software got into an endless "update" loop and did not play the Blu-ray. Microsoft's Windows Media Player also recognized the Blu-ray, but did not play the Blu-ray.
One solution I heard about was to plug an HDMI patch cord into the back of my computer box, with the other end of the HDMI patch cord not plugged into anything. Supposedly, the HP MediaSmart software would play a Blu-ray if the software sensed an HDMI cord. Unfortunately, that did not work.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    Supposedly, this Codec Pack would allow the Windows Media Player to play the Blu-ray. The Codec Pack included the Classic Media Player.
I tried to play the Blu-ray on the current Windows Media Player and the Classic version, with the new codecs installed. But nothing worked. I then used System Restore to get rid of the  Media Player Codec Pack. I found out that, in addition to the codecs, I was supposed to use the Slysoft AnyDVD HD software. However, I did not make any more attempts to use the codecs, and I did not download the Slysoft software.
Now, here's where things get weird. Now, the HP MediaSmart software and the current Windows Media Player do not even *recognize* the Blu-ray DVD. They play the regular "Divergent" DVD very well. But they do not even *see* the Blu-ray DVD.
I uninstalled the BDDVDRW CH20L driver, version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255). I restarted the computer, and a new driver was installed. The new driver's version is 6.1.7601.17514. But the Blu-ray DVD is *still* not being recognized.
Now, I'm hearing that a Blu-ray lens cleaner may be required.
So, what's going on here? Did the codecs in the Codec Pack damage the Blu-ray lens? Please advise.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, BH. Thanks for your response.
sp60287.exe seems to be for Windows 8. I have Windows 7.
But even if I got a PowerDVD version for Windows 7, I still have the issue of the Blu-ray disc not even being detected. The Blu-ray disc is in the drive, but the software (HP MediaSmart, Windows Media Player) says that there is no disc in the drive. This "no detection" issue began after I installed the codecs in the Codec Pack and tried to make Windows Media Player work with the codecs. Is there an issue with the Blu-ray lens? Or is there an issue with the Blu-ray disc itself?
I notice that the regular "Divergent" DVD has no fingerprints on it, even after I touch it. But the Blu-ray DVD has lots of fingerprints. Does the Blu-ray have some kind of weird surface? Is there some problem with the Blu-ray's surface that is causing the Blu-ray to not even be detected?
    Thanks.

  • Video Playback is screwed up in Premiere since attempting Blu-Ray

I am completely at my wits end.
I have been using Premiere for years with very little problems that I could not fix myself until now.
My system had CS2 and CS4 loaded and working fine...no problems. Any video I either captured and/or imported played fine...complete editing process great...just completed 5 projects just prior to the following...
UNTIL I decided to put a Blu-Ray burner in my system and export out via the Bridge to Encore. Well, mistake, it started maxing out my processor for hours before locking up and I had to shut down my system.
When I brought it back up now I can't open any previous Encore projects without running into PProHeadless error over and over again until I have to just close Encore. It will only allow me to start a new project and even it acts up.
Also, and most importantly, when I open projects, new or old, in Premiere now video is more richly defined in the windows (color & resolution...sharper) but they are jerky and rippling where they previously were softer but correctly playing and when I attempt to use the external monitor setting it it becomes very choppy---audio is correct but video is'nt. I have checked these files in several other players on my system (WinXP Pro SP3 P4 3.0 4GB Ram) and they play fine, just like they use to in Premiere but when I play them in Premiere...no more.
    I don't know what I have done
I had a wedding that was originally originally sequenced in NTSC DV48 widescreen and attempted to link it out to Encore to burn as Blu-Ray H.264, 1920x1080 when all this started.
I have done all I know including uninstalling ALL Adobe software on my system, clearing my registry and re-installing to now avail.
I have never had problems like this before...
The scary part is I just purchased CS5 and am researching building a new Quadcore i7 but if i am having these kinds of problems with CS4 I'm thinking Mac and Finalcut Pro (really don't want to go there)
I have researxhed everywhere concerning the PProHeadless problem with absolutely no answers that can fix that problem either.
    PLEASE HELP!!!! I'm dying here...!?

Jeff, thanks for sticking with me...
Disabling the bluray drive reverted everything back although it is not running as smoothly as before so I can get in to Encore projects although they are erroring out and shutting down the program whenever I attempt to image in bluray...haven't attempted to image in standard DVD yet.
Right now I am attempting to export a project from Premiere as a bluray so the encoder is running it...
Will I ALWAYS need to disable the bluray drive anytime I am not running bluray projects in order to get into the standard DVD projects?
About the monitor, CS5 has a selection for adjusting run resloution but I don't know if or where the adjustment would be in CS4. As I said before I did not need to adjust the resolution before this happened.

  • Blu-ray archiving

Roxio's website, maker of Toast, states that blu-ray discs will hold 50gigs of data. is anyone out there using blu-ray on a mac for archiving purposes and if so, how much video are you getting on a single sided 25gig or a 50gig? I have a large library of DVCAM footage and I want to know what is the best quicktime codec/compression scheme to use for transfering my library to blu-ray to get as much as possible on a disk without losing much quality. Currently, my plan is to buy a blu-ray dvd burner, capture my footage with quicktime as DVNTSC 720x480 48khz and then save those files for burning to DVD. Any ideas?

Well sometimes logging and capturing can be a bit of an issue (and you have to check to make sure everything was bought back in properly), but I think ultimately it comes down to a judgment call on how you want to store things. At this point I just get Hard Drives like floppies, put them in marked cases then store them in the event I need to pull them out. Have hundreds of hours stored that way and for me it is easier in terms of time and workflow just to grab them in case I need to make changes. You can store over 50 hours (DV or HDV) on a 750 Gig hard drive and save the tapes for just in case.

  • Blu-Ray bit rate (and other questions)

Hi, just getting ready to try out my new blu-ray burner and I had a couple quick questions regarding outputting via compressor, thanks for any help and advice:
    1) What's the recommended average and max bit rate assuming file size isn't an issue?
    2) Can I put multiple videos on one blu-ray? From what I can tell it's only one per disk...
    3) The blu-ray template wants audio and video from one source, correct? Or can I drop in a quicktime video and a separate audio track? (For instance, I have a surround sound mix that was done elsewhere while the video was edited and output from an Avid)
    4) Will compressor accept Avid DnxHD quicktimes?

I assume you mean to create a BD with Compressor.
    1. 34mbps, if I remember, is the max. Just let Compressor calculate the average and max. With a good source, an average above 24mbps won't make a difference of quality, in my opinion.
    2. No; you have to have a single movie all assembled in FCP first. But you can use chapter makers to mark multiple original movies.
    3. One source only, correct.
    4. I don't know.

  • No option to select Blu-Ray folder as source when trying to burn to Blu-ray disc

    Hello,
I've created a project at home that I want to put on Blu-Ray. At home I don't have a Blu-Ray burner so I created a Blu-Ray Folder in Encore and brought over to a friends house to burn using Encore. But in Encore it doesn't have the option to select Blu-Ray Folder as a Source, only current project or disc image. I know when doing this with a DVD it gives the option for current project, disc image AND DVD folder. Why not for Blu-Ray? Anything I can do with out having to redo as a Blu-Ray disc image? Thank you

Can't speak for Blu-ray, but with DVD, it is very important that the disc be burned as "DVD Video". For instance in Windows, if you simply drag the VIDEO_TS folder to a blank disc and burn as "Data", it is not going to play in most DVD players.
A computer will usually recognize the content of the disc as being DVD material and will likely play it. But DVD players are expecting a disc formatted a certain way, which a data disc is NOT, and therefore will not play the "data" disc.
A lot of the newer DVD players will play more types of media, such as MP3 and stuff, so possibly more of them would now recognize a VIDEO_TS folder on a data disc, but to do it right, you must burn as a DVD Video.
Most disc burning software will offer options of "DATA" or "DVD VIDEO" because there IS a difference in track layout, and there is special info written to disc that identifies it as a "DVD" also.
In the case of creating a Disc Image, or .iso file, from Encore, then that is a "snapshot" of the DVD with all the right stuff in place, so any software that can use an .iso will make a proper DVD. But again, you cannot just burn the .iso file straight to a disc as data, the software must be capable of creating a disc from an Image.
    Hope this makes sense
    Thanks

  • Creating a HDTV disk playable on Blu-Ray player - possible?

I want to distribute movies created in iMovie and exported in Quicktime HD (.MOV) format by burning them onto a Blu-Ray disk suitable for viewing the video on standard Blu-Ray disk players like my LG BD270 Blu-Ray player to view them on HDTV. I purchased and setup an ASUS Blu-Ray writer, which my iMac (Mavericks OS) recognizes. I'm using Aiseesoft's Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac to convert the .MOV file to a file format suitable for viewing on a Blu-Ray disk. I've tried two file formats: 1) HD MPEG-4 Video (*.mp4) and 2) HD H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Video (*.mp4), Everything seems to function properly. However, when I try playing the Blu-Ray disks on the Blu-Ray player, i get the spinning CD symbol for a moment that turns into "DATA". There are four icons that appear. The video icon is greyed out. Most frustrating. Perhaps I'm missing a step or using the wrong format???
    Any ideas?

It turns out that the Blu-Ray disks were properly written. The problem was due to the fact that the Blu-Ray player used was not capable of handling the new file formats. Playing the disks on a modern Blu-Ray player showed no problems. Thus the combination of Aiseesoft's Blu-Ray Ripper for Mac and the ASUS Blu-Ray Writer works with my iMac.

  • Unable to play Blu-Ray or DVD through MediaSmart on HDX 18

My drive has the Blu-Ray symbol on it, so I know it's supposed to have Blu-Ray capabilities, but every time I put a Blu-Ray OR DVD in, MediaSmart DVD pops up and says "No disc loaded in drive." However, I am able to run DVDs through Windows Media Player. So, what's wrong with my MediaSmart? Is there another way to play Blu-Rays?

I have been having this problem for close to 10 months (since I bought my HP laptop). I didn't care initially because I could use other players to play regular DVDs and CDs. I was in a fix when I tried to watch my first movie in Blu Ray disc. I tried multiple installs and re-installs but couldn't get it to work. I however got to a point where it would say the "Disc is ready, hit the play button", but when I hit the play button it just flashed the screen (adjusting screen display) for a second and then did nothing. I finally called HP support and they walked me through regular install and install as per their process. When the initial instructions didn't work, I on my own did two things while on call.
    1. I first Un-installed my antivirus software, just to make sure it doesn't interfere with any of the other activities being instructed by the support staff since they were related to drivers.
    2. I had a Divx player and converter installed in my machine. Just on random thought of driver conflicts I went ahead and un-installed all the Divx related software. It asked me for a restart and bingo. When the machine rebooted, HP mediasmart DVD was able to play the Blu Ray disc.
I don't know which of the un-installs did it. My guess is it probably was Divx or a combination of both. I then asked HP support to stop going through rest of the process. He advised me to update the BIOS and software for fingerprint device which I did and it solved another problem for me. I saw the whole movie without too many issues. Once issue I found was when I paused the play using keyboard and resumed the sound went away. I then had to close and restart the movie. Based on above experience, I would advice anyone else having same problems to first un-install all the free DVD/CD/Blu Ray player software from the machine, then proceed with un-installing antivirus (if necessary at all. You can install it back again). I haven't tried re-running the blu ray disc after re-installing the anitvirus. I will re-post any problem here if I find any issue. That would also nail down the culprit.
Hope this helps so some of you.

  • HP MediaSmart DVD won't play Blu-Ray's

I'm hoping someone can help me out in trying to figure out why my HP HDX 18 won't play Blu-Ray movies using HP MediaSmart.
When I pop a Blu-Ray in the optical, HP MediaSmart starts up and it looks like it's going to the play the movie however, it proceeds to ask me if I want to "activate" the app. I click YES thinking it's the first time I've used it so I guess I need to activate it.....however, it then pulls up a browser that directs me to download a patch from CyberLink.
I download and attempt to install the patch however it tells me that MediaSmart is currently installed and the patch requests to uninstall the previous version.
I agree to do so and after a few seconds, it comes up with an error message (error!! the product definition file lost).
I retry MediaSmart thinking this time I'll press NO, I don't want to activate and when I do this, nothing happens at all.
When I open My Computer, I can see the Transformers Blu-Ray in the drive and can right click and Explore the Blu-Ray as well so I know the drive is seeing it.
I called HP support and while the guy was nice enough, he was at a complete loss in trying to figure out why my Blu-Ray player would not play any movies. He tried multiple steps from going to the MSCONFIG and disabling all programs at Start Up, disabling Windows Installer (not sure why he wanted to try this step), to trying to recover the program from the partition itself. Nothing worked.
His final resolution was to perform a complete system recovery which I balked at as I have multiple programs installed (that would have to be reinstalled) and don't feel it necessary to perform a system recovery to "fix" my Blu-Ray issue.
And just to clarify, yes...my optical drive is indeed Blu-Ray optical drive.
Any advise or direction anyone can point me in would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.

The first link leds to a cyberlink page where i can't continue because theres nothing to click on.
mediasmart is up to date with me, but the cyberlink BR advsor means my laptop doesn't habe a BR Player neither a software.
    i'm using Win7_64. Any suggests?

  • DV7 1175nr installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit everything but blu ray works

everything but blu ray works I've removed the blue ray like hp said and to see if it would re install no luck I've installed all kinds of version of the hp smart dvd and nothing  I've tried chatting with hp  and they have been no help
if i put a regular dvd in its no problem but if i put a blu ray it says nothing no name just says no disc in bd drive and it opens it i installed the windows 7 64 bit ultimate edition so that i would upgrade i had the pre release trail and it was ending so i installed it now i have this problem boo

I have the exact same model and have Win7 64 bit on it. You have to install a Blu Ray compliant decoder like Power DVD 8, which is what I have. Then it will play Blu Ray movies. I also have Nero 9 on it which helps with working with Blu-Ray data. I am not sure what it was capable of doing as far as Blu-Ray disks before I installed thse two programs. I believe Win7 has no native Blu Ray support.

  • Blu-ray Compatibility Testing: Not Encouraging

Today, I decided to try playing a disc that I created with Encore, a Blu-ray disc that my Sony BDP-S301 reads just fine, at a local Sears consumer electronics showroom.
They had three Blu-ray disc players:
    Sony BDP-S300
    Samsung
    Sharp Aquos
I tried the Aquos first, but was dismayed to see that it displayed "cannot play this disc" after a minute of waiting.
The store salesman suggested I tried the Sony (which I thought was almost a wast of time because MY Sony plays this disc with no issues). To my utter shock, It produced the "cannot play this disc" after a minute of loading.
Finally, I took it to a Samsung player on another Blu-ray display on the end of an isle. That player did not recognize the disc either.
So thus far, 3 out of 4 Blu-ray players cannot play a disc authored in Encore. The ONLY player this disc works with is my Sony BDP-S301. Just one model higher than the one in Sears, and that makes the difference between play and no play.
What this amounts to is that if you're planning to deliver weddings on Blu-ray, be prepared to be doing a lot of refunds and eating the cost of a lot of blank BD-R media.
This is worse than I every imagined. I really had hoped the days of the Toshiba DVD player of 1998 were long gone. A 25% success rate means that recordable is NOT ready for prime time.

You are most correct, a lot of consumers are going to take it out of the box and use it, and not know or care about firmware updates. Eventually the problem will be sorted out by manufacturers (indeed I think it mostly already has, most if not all of the new release blu-ray players now support BD-R), this is just the same case when DVD players started getting big, some did not support DVD-Rs or RWs, etc. but most do now. I suppose the solution now would be to set up an email address (thats included in the BD-R packaging) and if people have trouble address them individually by email and inform them of firmware updates.
All blu-rays that we've released have a CYA statement about firmware updates and a link to the Sony site. If we have several major clients who can't seem to figure it out, have them email their model numbers and ship them a DVD with the update on it with instructions how to use it. I suppose a fee could/should be charged for that.
Hopefully we'll be out of this awkward phase soon....but only time will tell.

  • Re: Qosmio F60-100 Blue-ray doesn't start movie or even menu

    Hey guys !
My Toshiba Qosmio F60-100 works perfectly. There's just the blu ray drive that causes problems, because each time I put a Blu ray in, it starts the "Win DVDBD" program but never starts to play the movie or even the menu.
I just don't know how I can solve this problem.
I have already tried with the famous update but when I try to install it, i get a message telling me that the update isn't for my computer.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Volki

Yeah I've tried several BDs. It's really strange because sometimes it worked, but after I restarted it two or three times. Now It's the fourth Disk that makes reading problems. Now, I remember. I got to solve the problem once, because I registrated for win dvdbd. It worked .. until I shutted down my laptop. Now it's the same as before.

  • PowerDVD to view Blu Ray discs on WinXP or Win7 under Bootcamp

Trying to get a solution for playing BR discs on my MacBook Pro (with USB attached Pioneer BD Burner/Player). It would appear that Bootcamp is the way forward, but due to the way in which my partitions are set up, this will be a bit of a pain...
So before I embark on that, might I ask here if anyone has seen PowerDVD (or any other BR player) working on a Bootcamped MacBook Pro (late 2008 model)?
    Thanks.

I too am trying to achieve this - there are load of threads on this, but I haven't found one which gives a conclusive 'this definately works and here's how' answer.
I've got the LG BE12LU30 (which is recognised in OS 10.6.6). It comes with the PowerDVD software (Windows only) so I installed Windows 7 with Parallels 6 to run it. Unfortunately the CyberLink Advisor doesn't 'see' the NVIDA GeForce 9600 GT graphics card in my Macbook Pro, instead it sees a virtual Parallels graphics controller and won't play blu-rays.
Next, I installed Windows 7 (32 bit) in boot camp (so far no problems with Windows 7 in Parallels and boot camp with regards to licencing) and loaded PowerDVD. This time the NVIDA graphics card is recognised by the Advisor (green lights on basic, although in Advanced playback it says my system can't play dual-feed video - why or how I fix this I have no idea. In any case when I put a blu-ray in the player, PowerDVD program initialises but won't play the movie, stating that the graphics card is not compatible. That was with, as far as I can tell, a standard blu-ray (no dual-feed required (?), certainly not 3D)
Anyway, left a query with CyberLink - not holding my breath their, I gather they don't bother answering the trickier questions. I also left a query with LG (who supplied the software) they suggested updating my drivers from the boot camp website.
Pretty vague eh? I'm considering spanking yet more money on a different windows blu-ray player, maybe Corel WinDVD 2010, I've actually seen that working on Windows 7 (albeit a Sony Vaio laptop).
I didn't realise that you could install Windows 7 64 bit on boot camp, until I started routing around the boot camp support website, so I might attempt a reinstall - doubt it'll make much difference.
Also, on a couple of forums people talk about the Macbook Pro display not being HDCP compliant. I don't know what that actually means, but I was led to believe the Macbook pro 17" display is HD (maybe not HDCP).
The most annoying thing is reading the odd thread where someone says 'it works fine' with little to no detail!

  • Blu ray and surround sound

I just purchased a Sony Bravia kdl-52v4100 and a ps3 to watch blu ray. Now I want to buy a surround sound but watch blu ray at the same time with out buying a blu ray dvd player. Is there any way I can connect my PS3 with the surround sound to play together.

Assuming you don't already have a surround system, and plan to use the PS3 for DVD and Blu-Ray playback:
    1)  Buy surround system with an optical audio input.  Most have this.  Since you have a PS3 you don't need one of the ones that has a built-in DVD player.  I'm partial to the Yamaha HTIB (Home Theater in a Box) systems.
    2)  Buy optical audio (TOSLINK) cable
    3)  Connect TOSLINK cable from PS3 to surround receiver
    4)  Leave existing video connection between PS3 and TV in place
No need for a separate DVD player, the PS3 handles this.
You will have to change some options of the PS3 to enable the optical audio output.  I can't help you here as I don't own a PS3.
*disclaimer* I am not now, nor have I ever been, an employee of Best Buy, Geek Squad, nor of any of their affiliate, parent, or subsidiary companies.
