Outages, is there a way to find out

Is there a way (other than calling Verizon) to find out if we have an outage due to a storm? I called at 6:30am ET this morning and the rep was very nice, as of then there was no outage reported and he said he'd call me back in 30 minutes on my cell to let me know if an outage is why we have no landline, internet or TV. it's 8:50am ET and no call back.
Please can anyone tell me if there is anyway online to tell.
P.S. I'm so thankful at this point that I have AT&T cell service or I'd be stranded!

There is a system status page but I've never seen it updated when an outage occurs. So with that being said I'm sadly dissappointed to say that calling is the only way to find out. You may want to call back and see if there are any other reported outages. If so, inform the rep your service is down and begin troubleshooting the service.

Embedded Legend in JSP file

I would like to embed my legend within my map request. I can display the legend on my page within a Table Row, but I would prefer it located inthe Southwest corner of my map image. Can this be done? I have seen it in XML done this way.

Hi,
you can't use the makeLegend tag to embed it on map, but you can add an API method on your jsp code to add the legend. This is an example:

New Databases are failing in East Asia And Japan

Creating new SQL database & server at present fail in East Asia & Japan locations -> After creating can't connect - VS 2013 also prompts for firewall despite Azure Management panel showing FW rules in place.
SQL Returns Error 64. (For the above locations)
Creating new SQL DB's & servers in US locations appears fine.
I often feel the guys that are supposed to manage azure are asleep at the wheel when it comes to non-US locations. It shouldn't have to be me that tells you when your services aren't provisioning correctly. IF anyone could be bothered please reply when the
services are functioning again in East Asia... *It's also silly I need to pay Azure to submit a ticket to tell them they're stuff is broken, Azure has once again wasted my time. If someone there wants to post links to obscure webpages that (of course) don't
fix the problem don't bother.
Minor Rant over ... just get things fixed.

Move-SPSite with no IIS reset?

Does anyone know the definite or potential side-effects of not performing an IIS reset immediately after performing a Move-SPSite command to move a site collection from one content database to another is?
We have been tasked with splitting some our larger content databases up to make them more manageable and are using Move-SPSite to do so. However, we are operating in a 24/hour no-break environment and have to submit an outage report in order to
request and perform an IIS reset. To move a site collection on the other hand, we only have get approval from the site collection owner.
So our plan is to move all the site collections throughout the week when possible and then submit one outage report to perform the IIS reset once they are all moved. But in the meantime, what are the negative consequences of moving a site and then
not performing an IIS reset for a few days?

It's true that the Move-SPSite command doesn't require downtime. But after the process completes, it displays
the message "WARNING: IIS must be restarted before this change will take effect. To restart IIS, open a command prompt window and type iisreset."
The iisrest command does affect app pools, and this is the reason we have to submit an outage request before we can perform one. In reality, the impact of an iisreset is small and the duration is short, but the powers that be deemed it outage request
worthy.
We have tested this in test and couldn't find any issues. But we're still nervous because just because we couldn't find an issue doesn't mean one doesn't exist.

OraOLEDB.Oracle versus msdaora provider for adParamInputOutput

I'm currently using Microsoft OLE DB for Oracle provided with MDAC2.8 to execute stored procedures in an ASP page. My vbscript procedure contains an adParamInputOutput parameter (see code below - prm pio_session_id). Everything works fine. I pass a value to my SP and get a new value in return. The parameter is declared as in out in my oracle stored procedure
But as soon as I want to use Oracle Provider for OLE DB (9.2.0.4), I get the following error:
OraOLEDB error '80040e14'
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error ORA-06512: at line 1.
When I set the prm direction to adParamOutput, everything goes well !!.
Any idea why this behaviour ?

Texts aren't going through...

None of the texts I send to anyone are going through. On my Droid (A855) the status of the texts just says "sending..." Usually after a while I'll get a notification that the text didn't go through. That's not even happening here. I have full service and can make and receive calls, and even download apps. I can also receive texts. Just can't send them! I tried removing the battery and the *228 option 2 thing. Didn't work.
I'm in zip 92868. Is there a service outage?

There are no outages reported in the area of Orange, California.
In addition to what was said in the previous post, I also recommend a hard reset, by pulling the battery while the device is powered on. Then, simply re-insert the battery and power the device on. Try sending a text message. If you are still unable to send, additional troubleshooting may be necessary. Error when sending iCloud mail in Mavericks

Trying to send an email in Mavericks Mail from iCloud account and got the following error: MCMailErrorDomain error 1032.
Does this simply mean that iCloud had a hiccup (there was no outage reported at https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/), or is there something that I can do to prevent this from happening?

What happens when you try to send the message via icloud.com? It should be in the Drafts folder.

I phone 3g randomly calls

IPhone randomly calls phone numbers. Voice command activates by itsself. Home button not working. Have attempted to restore the phone but comes back that I phone needs to be restored. ????

try one of their sim cards in your phone. If you're still having problems it's something with the phone.
There have been outage reports where some phones were ok and others weren't.
You didn't say you restored. I would try that.

Suddenly can't sign in to iTunes or App store

I logged out of the itunes and app store and now can't log back in, it just keeps having the spinning wheel at the top next to my wifi signal. It's not giving any error and i've also tried rebooting the phone. Any suggestions?

Recording in a Campaign

I'm looking for a way to invoke the Record Action Menu type in a campaign and then have the recording played for people when they enter our IVR. Like when an ISP does an Outage Report in the hopes you will hang up and just wait for your internet to come back online.
I know I can do this by assigning a Company Prompt and having someone update with a silent WAV file or a pre-recorded one, but I am trying to find a way to automate it.
Has anyone ever done this before?

The play prompt has a varaible option so yes that would probably work well for this.
There would be silence if there is no file found.
As with anything there are many ways to go about this, you can also, if you wish, use business events as well and only look for the WAV if a flag is flipped i.e. a business event is found. Or more simplistically just alway play it and in most cases just have a blank (empty) file so there is no audio/no delay at all in the 'advisory' part of your call treatment.
It may be best however to combine these functions so when you go to your internal/private IVR to control this you can play a prompt that says 'are you sure you wish to activate this' and then have that part flip on your business event.

Bigpond email not working

My mother in law had adsl connected on the 15/10/2013 and as of now still has no email.I have been ringing,live chatting getting new settings from here and it is still not working? am I doing something wrong?I can't even access webmail on the bigpond website.It comes up with message technical failure.I am using outlook 2007 and thunderbird email clients.When I check mail a message comes up username and password don't match.Her internet is working fine.Please help.She is getting pretty frustrated.
