Ongoing crashing and power issues (late 2011 MBP)
Hi everyone,
I'm having some really irritating ongoing issues with my 15" unibody MBP, which I purchased new from Apple in Dec 2011. All okay 'til now apart from a hard drive replacement in May when the other one suddenly died (no reason given).
What's happening is that I will be doing some low key activity - internet etc (not overheating nor fans on) - and it will suddenly switch off in a second, almost like it's short circuited. Nothing like the kind of delayed, slow shut down when running out of battery, just a ping without a 'ping'. It then won't respond to being turned on via power button, the battery lights on the side won't light up, and the magsafe light is also off and not charging. This has happened four times now.
1) First time (late June), I was watching a video on the net, mbp plugged in at wall, at least 80-100% charged. Went to connect my iphone via usb, got as far as plugging the usb (unattached to iphone) and it went off immediately. No response as above to anything. Took it to the Apple store the next day, no response to being plugged in there so they theorised that it was the logic board and took it in overnight. The next day I get a phone call from one of the techies backstage saying he'd gone to plug it in and after about 20 mins it began to charge up fine, albeit completely drained of battery. He said he'd done a hardware test etc and everything appeared fine. So I went to get pick it up, they replaced the magsafe saying that must have been the source.
2) Less than a week later, it happens again, this time nothing attached to the usb, and as far as I know before it shut off, charged/charging in wall. No response for at least a day at home of me trying it in various power outlets etc. Just dead to the world. I take it to the genius bar the next day, they plug it in with one of their chargers and it lights up immediately, once again saying it'd been fully drained of power. Again they do a hardware test in front of me, show me everything is fine. This time they replace the plug end of my charger and send me off.
3) Two weeks later (last Monday 9th), I go in to my room and find it on my desk dead to the world. Plugged in, this time in a different house (so no chance of faulty wiring in walls of first). I can see a dim flickering light in magsafe but not enough to charge it, it seems. Won't respond to my attempts to turn on nor plug in around the house. On Thursday its still unresponsive, so I travel 2 hours on the train to my nearest Apple store, only for it to light up soon as they plug it in at the bar, and once again 0% battery. Guy tells me that it'll be my SMC 'getting confused' because I don't shut it down enough (I mostly let it sleep). He says it starts working again after 2 days because the SMC must be resetting itself somehow in its hibernation (?????). I take it home, start making a conscious effort to shut it down once or twice a day when I know I won't be using it. I also installed the recent OS and firmware updates.
4) Saturday night (tonight 14th). On the internet in bed with phone plugged in via USB, I unplug phone on phone end and it happens again. I can't turn it on, dim green flickering in magsafe, no lights on side of mac.
I honestly can't afford the money nor the time to keep travelling to Exeter only for it to charge soon as I put it down (magic touch of the apple store circuitry/staff I guess).
I can't reset the SMC as it won't turn on either way - I've tried this every time its happened, under the direction of applecare phone support and it doesn't do anything for a dead machine. Along with all the other keyboard combos they suggest. The only thing that 'cures' it is 2 or 3 days of being completely unresponsive, and then spontaneously deciding to charge like nothings happened beyond a battery drain, usually in the store.
What can I do? Whenever I go to the Apple store it works fine and I look like an idiot, plus they checked the hardware (incl the logic board) the first time. Could they have missed something? I spent so much money on this thing, I almost feel like I've been given a dud and they don't believe me enough to replace it.

ThomasynYou've documented your symptoms pretty well - put it in a document and present it to the Apple Store 'genius'. I would insist on a logic board replacement and a battery replacement. I feel as if you have a dud as well (the hard drive dying so soon, the problems you're describing, etc.). Apple will have a log of your AppleCare calls so make them frequently.
Before going back to the store, call AppleCare again with your symptoms so that they can document them. Let them make your appointment at the Apple Store.

I not sure what your actual question is.
Does the CSV file include only your payments? Your payments and your dad's payments as separate items?
Do you want to com[are ongoing payments, or do you want to compare the current totals paid by each? Is the 'we' in "what we own" collective, or individual? DItto for "how much is owed."
Too many loose ends to tie down a clear answer.

Outage from October 3rd and now I have a basket ca...
Ever since BT had the major outage in Birmingham my connection is a basket case before the outage I had been perfectly fine with my speeds and connection was usually always in a 6500 profile and between 7392-7967 speeds. I have logged the test results for the last few months in a word file due to my being upgraded to a better speed in April and went from a 5500-6000 profile set to the aforementioned 6500....for the last few years I have always been in IP profiles that have been in jumps of 500 Kbps on the BT tester but since the outage I have had weird and unstable IP profiles:

The end result has seen my speeds go from a solid 6500 (nearly a 7000 at times)profile set to dropping my speed and profile down in the days after the outage to a 6000 ish (ie latest is 6041) area with more drops to follow I fear. Has the outage caused a fault...
As a long time reader never poster of these forums I know it will get asked to post stats etc... I use a Linksys which does not let me see my stats like noise etc it was taken out in a firmware by them....I have tried the usual swapping of filters and test socket stuff and last time I called the help centre I was talking to them for one month+ to fix my issue with a different person each time trying to explain the issues over and over. It got old fast and if that is what I will be forced to do I will just migrate from BT to Sky because I wont do the month to sort it like I had to in the past. I have the speed test results to that show the profile has gone strange and would like it if someone would offer to check my connection for a fault...after all everything was fine until BT had its fault and my issues started from that day which makes me think it is down to that fault screwing up something...or at least someone tell me why the tester is giving me such odd IP profile results and ever dropping speeds since the outage.

Go to Solution.This is what I was afraid of the posting stats thing...I would love to but I dont have the ability on my router and the last thing I want is to set up a new one which will cause resysncs and make even more of a profile drop...and speeds dropping for that matter. I wont got the help line route as that was a nightmare in the past.....Just hard to swallow that everthing was fine then "BT" had major outage and then I have a screwed up profile and speeds! Oh I thought you meant something else with the 3-5 day thing....so your thinking is it will go back to the 6000 o 6500 profile after 3-5 days or is the new 88.2 % of the connection thing permanent? As far as the outage goes did it cause many people to also drop speeds after and have multiple resysncs (and I mean many resysncs!) as it would be silly for the outage to cause poeple to lose speed and profile stability through no fault of there own. Which is why I was hoping someone would check for a fault for my line as it seems to be outage linked for me...how else would it all go so pear shaped on the day of the BT issues. Before it get misinterpreted I waited 7 days to see if the speeds would go back to normal and IP profles normalise with minimal disconns by me most were all on there own....BUT after yet another resync at 1:05 am last night I decided to hesitantly post my first post in hopes somebody would see that I did the right things kept a log of my tests/Profiles (with the exception of the router stats...which I cannot do)...and still see degradation over time that I have not had in Years and I have been tracking it since the last call centre fiasco...

I have a MacBook pro that has power issues and will not start but the hardrive is fine. I do not want to lose all of my files so I was wondering if it's possible to transfer my hardrive from a older Macbook pro to a new one if I were to purchase a new one? Also, the software is not updated as the computer hasn't worked for about 2 months.
Also, if it is possible to transfer the hardrive, would my iTunes music transfer as well? It is not saved in the cloud.
Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated.You computer is probably perfectly repairable, but if you want a new one anyway, it is perfectly possible to transfer the data from the faulty one.
But it would be a mistake to simply put the old HD in the new computer.
These are the steps:
Remove Hard drive from faulty computer. (very easy on Unibody MBPs, do-able but not so easy on older MBPs)
Put it in a cheap enclosure
Connect it the new computer
Boot up new computer.
If the new computer has never been run before the Setup Assistant will ask if you want to import your apps, data, settings etc from either another mac, another HD connected to the Mac or a Time Machine back up.
Obviously chose the second option (another HD connected to this Mac) and follow prompts.
If the new computer has already been run (so Setup Assistant doesn't run when you boot it up), you will need to use Migration Assistant...or run the installer again so that Setup Assistant runs again.

I am having a number of issues including loss of import functionality from scanner, I can't drag and drop photos into the editor any more as well, or at least not after the first one. The crop function stops working after the first couple of photos. Then some freezing. A little added crashing. A plethora of other bizarre issues as well. This just stated happening a couple of days ago.
What I have tried:
Uninstall/Install.
Deleted preferences both before opening Editor (crontrol-alt-delete) and after opening it.

OK! Check it, like I said in previous posts I seemed to have narrowed it down to specific mp3s not converting and playing in their native sample rate which if paired with another sample would give you the "audio midi sync" error and basically screw up your clock! It appears mp3 files converting to mp3 using iTunes would not convert to the correct sample rate if set to something other than 44 in logic and cause this. A tad peculiar Apple iTunes won't work with Apple Logic. I was able to confirm this on two mac's via my friend in Florida. He's running Tiger and tried the same experiment and Booya! Mickey Mouse! It appears this insane week long adventure has came to an end (...god willing) with a super specific unlucky shot in the dark on my part finally revealed to be an perfectly normal function of Logic (obviously one i'm not fond of..) As far as the errors / crashes / system overloads / kernal panics I think I can sort those out to the mackie onyx satellite not being a good choice and trying to add and remove firewire devices in the middle of the sample rate mayhem. Wow! all I can say is, I'm glad it's over

Hi Can anyone please tell me from where I can download the Photoshop CS6 program I purchased a download (media less) some 2 years ago and all has been OK up to know but I am know having issues and would like to uninstall and reinstall. I have the relevant codes and activation keys but would need to be sure I can obtain the program again before I start. Thank you
Make sure you are dealing with the correct product for the serial number. If the serial number is for a full creative suite then you need to get the suite, not the individual application, and vice versa.
Unrelated to that, in case it helps, here is a link to another site. You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below and then use your current serial number to activate it.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site and have cookies enabled in your browser or else the download will not work properly.

A look around the internet and my previous knowledge indicates this is not an issue with firefox, but with how the server that the app is run on is incorrectly configured. To test this, please install an old version of firefox. You can download an older version from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html then try to visit the website again. Please let us know if it turns out that it works with version 3.6 -
Ongoing WiFi issues and Apple Support's lack of support!

I bought my MacBook Air in July/August 2012 (i7, 8GB RAM, 256 GB HDD, Mountain Lion). Since the first day, I have had issues with wifi connectivity. My primary use was at the university in Australia, where I had frequent drop outs and at times no connection at all. the university does not officially support Apple products and I was stuck with Apple support asking me to check with network administrators. I was also advised to re-install the OS, reset PRAM etc with no improvements. Then I had a 4 month stint as an exchange student in an Indian university. As i was not using my laptop at the university, I couldnt monitor the WiFi connectivity in these 4 months. Once back in Australia in January 2013, the issue surfaced again. Multiple conversations with Apple Support led me to another 4 re-installations and replacing my router with an uber expensive one. The reasons given by Apple were either the router's quality or interference from other networks. The new router supported 5Ghz band and had no intereference what so ever. I started to notice that the connectivity is far better with the wifi signal showing full range, but internet does not work. All is well if I am sitting right next to the router. The minute i move 5-8 metres away, Internet becomes super slow (from 12-14 Mbps to 1-2 Mbps on speedtest.net) and eventually does not load. At the same time, all other devices, including my iphone 5, ipad 2, ipad mini and other PCs in the apartment works perfectly fine.
On speaking to Apple Support, i was asked to conduct SNR checks and found out that the SNR readings fluctuate like ****. From 1-2 to 25-30. The Signal strength on my MacBook Air stays at -75dB to -65 dB. Armed with this info, the Airport card was replaced. But the issue still persists. The MacBook Air is presently at Apple waiting to get its display (antennas are embedded here) replaced. But I have lost total confidence in Apple. Is there anyone who had similar issues and found a stable solution? Other symptoms which may be connected are Mail becoming nonresposive intermitently, Power Nap function not working, battery life never more than 4 hours.
Apple Support has been appalling in a very courteous manner. Even though the commincation and care they took to talk to me, the issue hasnt been solved and its been 11 months!!
Any comments, advices and support will be appreciated.
Thank You!I am sorry, maybe my comment was vague. I am an engineer too albiet in the medical devices sector. Problem for me is that, I have been talking to Apple for about 11 months now. If you know where I live and how far the Apple Store is, you'd understand my frustration. I have been accomodating so far and do love the customer service experience I get from Apple. I am a proud owner of 2 iPads, an iPad mini, an iPod classic, an iPod Touch, an iPhone 4 and an iPhone 5 besides the MacBook Air. They are the most courteous and receptive Customer Service Reps out there. But all the courtesy does not hide the fact that my MBA is 11 months old and still having an issue starting 11 monthds ago. I had taken this machine to the stores numerous times. With the last week, i was getting to a point where I felt I have done enough to try everything except replacement of the machine to try fixing this issue. But now, Apple wont play ball. the rep said, i quote "your machine is almost a year old and you cant expect Apple to replace it". they have support call documents to prove that i have been talking to them about the issue since 11 months and to top it all, I have also purchased the $279 extended warranty. At the time of purchase the rep promised me that 'I would be send a box containing a loan machine while yours can be sent to us and fixed'. if you go through my posts here in mac forum, I had raised the issue here as well.
Now coming to the question, I have exhausted my options with Apple support and wanted to know if anyone else had the same issue and found a fix. With that maybe i can stop pulling my hair apart - realistically, stop myself from making another long trip to the Apple Store. -
My daughter has downloaded free games from the App Store and I have been charged in excess of £200 and I don't know why has anyone had the same issue and if so how did you get your money back

are you asking for a Reporting Services Report? You can find this information in Reporting DB (2010) resp. schema dbo for reporting (2013).

How to transfer music from PC to my iPad mini and iTunes Store app issue
I am new with IPad mini, and have issues with music on device:
A) I wonder whether I can transfer music from PC to device (A 1432) and
B) I have problems 'approaching' iTunes Store app because it shows on screen interface for iTunes U app (which I downloaded previously and deleted it in the meantime because of this problems)...cannot shut it down because there is no way to exit this mode.
hope someone will help so I can finally have some music on device.

I did manage to solve problem of music transfer iPad mini-PC, however I didn't succeed in approaching iTunes Store and there is nothing in the manual about it.
When I open application I have iTunes U interface and cannot move anywhere but close app. I did try to re -enter pass and ID in iTunes Store app settings but nothing changed.
Does anyone have any idea what to do in order to have approach to ITunes Store.
