Outbound port setting

i have a db that is placed behind a firewall and i have opened the default port1521 in the firewal now when i make the tnsping it works perfectly now when i try to connect with sql plus it gives me the error request timeout. i think that the issue is of the out bound port that oracle sets for the client at run time randomly now can any buddy help me in fixing that port so that it is fixed and not random

Fassih,
yes you are correct. you have to open all the high range ports for outbound then only you can connect to the database(TCP).

  • Outbound character sets

    Hi
Our outbound external messages go out via a GW704 GWIA. The GWIA thenpasses them onto our email security gateway.
The issue that I'm having is that I've enabled a 'disclaimer' on our email security gateway that is stamped on all outbound messages. The HTML version of the disclaimer that works perfectly but the Plain Text version is causing me grief.
When I include French characters such as and in the disclaimer it doesn't get appended to the outbound messages.
I spoke to the security gateway support team and they tell me that it won't work if our outbound character set is set to US-ASCII. It needs to be UTF8 (or similar) for these characters to work properly.
I checked the character set that the GWIA is sending out with and it is indeed US-ASCII.
Is there a way I can set the GWIA to use the UTF8 (or similar) character set so that I can include these dodgy foreign characters in our disclaimer? I've looked through the config file and settings and
nothing is jumping out at me.
If there is a way and I set it am I likely to run into any other issues with messages that were previously going out ok?
    Thanks

Outgoing mail encoding is controlled at the Client. The gwia setting is
    just a fallback
    However they are IMO
    a) lying - US-ASCII is a 100% subset of UTF-8. Hence any US-ASCII only
encoder will ALWAYS be accepted as UTF-8 . The reverse is NOT true -
UTF-8 will get corrupted going through a US-ASCII gate. But that's not
    what they said.
    b) Pretty much NOT an excuse, because email security gateways (unless
they are ineffective), have to be able to parse MIME in character sets
of, oh at least 15 varieties. So they are making a tacit admission their
product is substandard, and unable to protect against malware. By
definition if you can parse text for malware and content (and to do so
you must be able to read/write that character set), you should not have
    this problem.
So either your description is incomplete, or you need to seriously
    consider leaving this provider ASAP.
Disclaimer : I work for and have written email security software for
GWAVA, which would be a competitor.

  • Mail port setting for .Mac?

I use Mail for my .Mac account and usually have no problem sending e-mails. However, whenever I am on campus at school I am unable to send out any mail (and thus my messages are always moved to the Outbox but never sent out). Once I reconnect off campus my messages are sent.
Do I need to change a server port setting to have my e-mails be sent out? As of now, it's on the default setting of smtp.mac.com on port 25.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try changing to Port 587. Should work at home, as well. See:

  • GigE VIsion Camera IP and Port setting in multicast mode (IMAQdx)

GigE VIsion Camera IP and Port setting in multicast mode (IMAQdx)
    Hello, Everybody
I have NI-IMAQdx 3.5.0 , and I have Basler Camera (scA640-74gc) with GigE Vision Interface.
I run that camera in my computer as controller (Multicasting mode) with IP (239.192.0.1)
I detected that camera in another computer (to run it as listener) by LbVIEW .
    my problem is
I run the Pylon Viewer from Basler (Monitor mode) after I detected that camera.
it was run successfully (I look to details of that camera it have same IP 239.192.0.1 and the port changed every time when i stop running in controller computer)
from where i can set fixed Port  in multicasting mode??????
When I use Pylon Viewer in controlled computer and set the mode to multicast
I should set IP and port , then in listener computer I run Pylone Viewer (monitor mode) I saw same IP and same port which i set it in controller
I need a way in LabVIEW to set Port Number in multicasting mode...How I can do that
    Best Regard
    Alzhrani

    Hi Alzhrani,
Unfortunately it is a bit more complicated because you would have to use the GVCP protocol and do a register read of a specific register on the camera that stores the multicast UDP port (that IMAQdx programs from the controller). However, this likely requires access to the GigE Vision specification in order to be able to format the messages correctly.

  • Assigning a map to an outbound port

    Hello together,
I'm trying to syndicate several records using syndication server. I defined my mapping in the MDM Syndicator (5.5 SP5) and saved it. Then I tried to create a port in the console. I took a remote system type inbound/outbound. I defined the port as outbound and expected that I could select my map from the syndicator.
Could you please tell me what I do wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    René

As far as I understood your problem, you want to syndicate file to the port.
    For this -
    1) Go to destination properties in Syndicator, select the type, then select your <b>client system</b>.
    2) Map the fields and save this map as say MAP1.
    3) Now in your Console under Admin node select the port.
Here select your outbound port and the associated client system. In the Map field detail select your map you have created above i.e. MAP1 and save it.
    4) Load the repository.
    5) Go to Syndicator and open your map i.e MAP1
    6) Select Destnation properties.
This time select type as port, corresponding client system and port.
    7)Execute the syndication.
Your file will get posted to the respective port.
    Hope this helps.

  • GWIA Outbound Port

Hi, I'm having a small problem... My ISP (Comcast) blocks all outgoing connections on port 25. Which as you know is the default SMTP port and the port GWIA normally uses to send email.
Comcast now requires that you send email on their server (smtp.comcast.net) using Port 587 and authentication. I believe I've read enough information to get the Outbound Authentication working, but have been searching high and low for information on how to change GWIAs outbound port.
I know this is easily accomplished on Exchange as that's what I am currently using. Company is looking to switch to Groupwise but this cannot be done unless I can get this problem fixed.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks!

Don't have any experience with this situation, but was wondering if you can configure your outbound host (/mh switch if using your gwia.cfg file) with the port on it. Try putting 1.2.3.4:587 for your outbound host.

  • Outbound port to open

I need to send a request to the infrastructure people saying which firewall ports to open to allow my SQL Server to extract data from an external SQL Server. (I can't test anything and they want a few ports or small range).
I need to be able to connect from my server behind the firewall to the remote server - I guess the preference would be to use SSIS but would also like to be able to create a linked server connection.
So which outbound ports would I need to be opened? I assume the destination would use the same port for the response? Does anything need to be done to allow that?

I don't have any experience of enterprise-level firewall products, but the consumer-level firewalls I have used (Outpost, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm etc), typicall permit outgoing traffic per
application. That is, if I don't like Windows Media Player calling home, and I only use it to play files on my own machine, I can tell the firewall to block all outgoing traffic from WMP. A good firewall also lets me restrict an application to
only use a certain port, a certain protocol or connect to a certain IP address.
Blocking outgoing traffic per ports is completely crazy. And while the world of IT is full of people on high horses who know a lot less than the height of their horses, I would not expect a firewall administrator to be that stupid. (Because it would break
down very quickly.) I suspect that you and the infrastructure people are talking past each other.
What probably needs to be open is the incoming port on the remote server. That is, if that server is listening on port 1433, that is the port to open.
As an example, while I can access the web in general from work, there is web-attest system that I can't access. This is sure due to that the URL includes :9898.

  • Airport extr port setting w/SL server

When moving our offices to a new location I lost all the settings on my Airport extreme.
I have a Mini Server with Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8 that's connected to the internet via an Airport Extreme base station.
We have a set of wikis that we usually acces from the internet with a domain name for which the IP was managed by Dyndns. I can access the wiki locally with the local adress (http://miniserver.local/groups/xxx/calendar/ or http://miniserver.local/groups/xxx/wiki/) but can't do it with the domain name as we used to before.
I've opened port 80 on the airport extreme but it still doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

Although the information specific to 10.6 has not yet been posted, lynda.com has an excellent step-by-step tutorial on setting up 10.5. server. It will cost you $25, but I believe it will be well worth the time and minimal cost.
At this point, if I were you, I would start over with the Mini. Watch the tutorial on setting up the server in general and especially DNS and then reinstall server on the Mini. Remember that the server MUST have a static IP address.
I hope you have some sort of external storage attached to the Mini as none of the internal drives are anywhere large enough to support 10 users with file sharing and Final Cut. Buy the biggest drive you can get with FireWire 800 and connect it to the Mini.
Once you have the server and DNS set correctly, you can use Workgroup Manager to do all sorts of fun things, including shutting off the internet to client systems. To make it work, though, you will need to bind the client systems to the server.
Not sure about moving to 10.5.x clients of that vintage. I have 10.5.x running on a 1Ghz machine at home and it is slow-going at best. The only advantage to 10.5.x is additional management tools that don't work in 10.4.x. I don't believe the parental controls (which can be used to lock down internet settings) will work the way you need under 10.4.x, but to be honest, I don't remember that far back.
You will use Server Administrator to set up share points, including options to auto-mount a share point (again I highly recommend that this be an external drive). Workgroup Manager is where you will set up student accounts and, if desired, make share points auto-mount. Don't forget to set permissions, too. You can also do cool things like start up and shut down the clients on a schedule.
Disconnecting the system from the outside world certainly has advantages, but it would be nice to be able to get software updates, especially for the server.
    Good luck.

  • How to block outbound port in Solaris 10

    Hello,
I would like to block OUTBOUND telnets (port 23) - Let me repeat it's OUTBOUND (not inbound).
I need to do it on Server level (not Firewall level).
Any help would highly be appreciated.

Yes, you need to use ipfilter.
You can filter either inbound or outbound.
There's information in docs.sun.com on how to use svcadm to turn it on and there's an ipfilter mailing list to help you figure out how to use it.

  • Why does recievig partnerrequire outbound parameter setting for the message

    Hi,
I was configuring the partner profiles for outbound billing and sales order cycles.Interestingly for outbound scenario, we had to maintain the settings for outbound parameters in receiving partner.
For example, if i sending ORDERS  message type from sender to receiver, then after maintaining the details in partner profile(outbound parameters for sender in we20) for sender, then not only i need to put the orders details in inbound parameters for reciever, but also the outbound parameters for receiver(both inbound and out bound parameters to be filled for the message type for reciver partner).
I checked other systems and founf this is how it is being maintained in outbound cycle. But could anyone provide any insight of why this is required.I did not find anything from bd64 or others about this.
why would the outbound parameters needs to be filled for particular message type in reciver sytem, when it is only required to fill the inbound parameters only for receiver system?

I got help for this issue over at CreativeCow's FCP pages -- it turns out, all I had to do was open a new project using an easy setting and project setting for vanilla PAL 25 fps SD stuff. All of the audio was correctly brought in -- then I disconnected all of the clips, made them dual mono, reconnected them, and copied them over to my old gristly project folder.
Now I can marry these dual mono 25fps files to the video files without having FCP incorrectly compensate for "30fps" by speeding these clips up slightly, so things stay in sync.

  • Question on - GWIA - Relay Host for outbound messages setting

We are being forced to use a "centralized" message relay host due to
State mandates. So . . . most everything is working except messages
sent to comcast.net. For some reason the GWIA is trying to communicate
directly with comcast.net (76.96.62.116). Here is my configuration
(all my GW systems are GW 7.0.3 lastest service patch, NW6.5SP8 server):

PO MTA - on its own server
GWIA MTA and GWIA - on their own server
GWIA is configured to use "Relay Host for outbound messages:" -

The following is from my GWIA Log showing where I sent a message to my
comcast and hotmail e-mail accounts. For some reason, the GWIA is
trying to send my comcast.net addressed message directly to comcast
server instead of relaying thourgh my relay host. Is there some
setting or config file I need to look at to see how this is

I have tried uninstalling the printer driver and reinstalling it as well as letting Windows detect the printer driver, but it still creates another Port and one printer always insists on printing to one particular port and the other printer prints to the other.
How do I set both printers to print with the same port so I don't have to constantly go into the properties to switch them back again?

What is your operating system?  In Vista (and I think XP as well) you can go to the Printers folder, right click on the printer, Run as Admonistrator, Properties, (continue),  Ports, check the "Enable Printer Pooling" then check the boxes for the ports for the two printers.  In this case the print job will be sent to the first one that is available.
