Outgoing email in Sent (1)

My iPhone 3GS was trying to send an email, but for some reason all the email IDs became garbled and it was stuck in the send cycle. So I did a hard reset to get out of that. When it came back, the mail client was able to connect to the mail server again, but the message it was trying to send was sucked into a zombie state: not in the Drafts folder, and not visible in Sent, but the Sent folder showed 1 unsent message. Nothing I have tried will clear it out, and the message itself is not accessible any way I can think of.  Any suggestions?

It will just keep trying to send the email.  In the cases I've seen here at work it never goes thru.   Just be aware if you're not on unlimited data, it could eat up data by trying to continually to send.

  • Add outgoing email addresses to Address Book?

I don't think I'm imagining this, but didn't Address Book and Mail use to work together in such a way that the address in any outgoing email you sent was added to your Address Book?
I cannot find any preference or menu that allows this, although I wish it was an option.
When typing in the To: field, Mail obviously refers to some database of names I've written to in the past, as it responds immediately I start typing by listing everyone remotely similar to the letters I've typed. But to this day my Address book contains a grand total of just two addresses: my own, and Apple's.

    Hello Martin.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and I don't recall an available preference setting to automatically add all message recipients to the Address Book.
The Mail.app stores all message recipients in the list of Previous Recipients in Mail which is stored in the Address Book database. The Mail.app autofill feature pulls from the Address Book contacts and the list of Previous Recipients.
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Window and select Previous Recipients. A previous recipient already entered in the Address Book will have a vCard icon to the left of the name or email address. You can remove a previous recipient from the list or add a previous recipient to the Address Book that is not already entered.
Removing a previous recipient from the list has no effect on Address Book entries.

  • How to filter/check outgoing email BEFORE it is sent?

I want to write a set of rules to check outgoing email *before* it gets sent. For example: I have 2 contacts with very similar names and autocomplete occasionally means that I send an email to the wrong person. I want to be able to avoid potentially troublesome situations by specifying that an email with certain keywords never gets sent to specific addresses. I'd like a warning to pop up, or just to have the email shunted into a special local mailbox, if it meets certain conditions prior to being sent out. I am using Apple Mail and Outlook 2011 with an Exchange server. Is there any mail client, or script or extension that will allow me to check emails for specific things before they are sent out?

    Hi Raju,
Try this.  Create another dataprovider within your web template?  This new dataprovider refers to a similar query, but this query definition should restrict values CG1, CG2, CG3 and CG4.  Assign this dataprovider to your checkbox.  Then make sure the properties of the checkbox affect all other dataproviders.
Also, if this list is static, you could create an HTML checkbox object coding the options (cg1, cg2, cg3, and cg4) programmatically.  Then add javascript code to produce the proper filtering based on the users' selections.
    Let me know what happens.

  • The email message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing email settings for the server are configured properly

i have an issue when loading a workflow. it gives me a following error "The email message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing email settings for the server are configured properly". it doesnt send me any alerts and worlflow fails at the end
    with the above error message.

    Hi,
I agree with Bistesh. But after Outgoing e-mail settings are configured properly, if the issue still exists,
It may result from your Anti-Virus. Please refer to the following steps:
Open MCAfee Console and go to Access Protection window.
Click Anti-Virus Standard Protection and edit “prevent mass mailing
    worms from sending emails” rule.
Now we need to know which processes are being blocked therefore we need to check the MCAfee Log located at
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DesktopProtection\AccessProtectionLog.txt
you may find entries of DtExec , DtExecUI and DatabaseMail90, now these processes need to be entered in the exclusion list of selected rule .
Reset the IIS And SharePoint Timer service to check if this works for you.

  • Outgoing emails are not being sent from my email address all of a sudden. It started happening when I changed my gmail password

After I changed my gmail password my outgoing emails are no longer being sent from my gmail account, but are being sent from my spouse's account so that replies go into her inbox, not mine.

You may have a corrupt preference, in order to correct this open Mail - Preferences - Accounts and re-input all the preferences for the account. While they may look ok one or more may be corrupt.

  • Incomplete sent folders / lost outgoing emails

    Greetings,
I have set-up Mail.app to access several incoming / outgoing mail servers. Mail.app organizes the outgoing emails under the generic 'Sent' hierarchy, according to the mail server used.
I am missing a couple emails sent with one particular SMTP servers, and I have been unable to retrieve them: Since this is not a POP server, there is no 'Sent Messages.mbox' or specific POP folder in the Library/Mail directory that I could restore.
Restoring the whole Library/Mail structure worked half way: I have a couple of emails showing as 'unread' (blue dot), but these are totally empty: no headers or content to them. Rebuilding the particular 'Sent' mailbox removed these empty messages all together.
I have no clue on why the emails went missing in the first place, and am running out of ideas on how to recover the lost outgoing emails.
    Thanks for any pointers.

    Ernie, I can confirm:
The account does appears in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information as a separate account
There is no obviously related folder for it under Library/Mail (all other folders seem to relate to specific pop accounts, for example: [email protected], [email protected] and so on, but I have no folder named [email protected]).
This is my first in the list of email accounts under Mail/Preferences - but am unsure if that makes it the 'primary' account, where the sent messages of the primary account are supposed to be, or what, if not the 'From' Address, the criterion is for Mail.app to place a sent message in a particular place. Library/Mail/Mailboxes/out* are empty so I know the missing messages are not there.
Further, copies of Sent emails are never erased - for any account.
    Thanks for your patience
    James

  • How do I delete an outgoing email that keeps crashing Mail? I sent it out to too many recipients.

I tried to send the email to 326 reciepients and got an error message that Gmail couldn't send it. When I tried to close the email, It won't close. I followed one comment that said to get off the internet and re-launch Mail again. I tried that and it didn't work because the outgoing email kept coming up. It will not allow me to force quit either. I have also tried closing down and reopening the system - still no luck.  Please help. Thanks in advance.

Try launching Mail after disconnecting from the Internet,, or find that .emlx file in the Finder & trash it.

  • Dreamhost blocking SMTP outgoing email sent via MiFi 4510L hotspot

I've been using a MiFi 4510L as my only internet connection for about a year, and have been happy with it to date.  Dreamhost.com is my email host (and web domain host).
I haven't been using the MiFi for a few days.  Today I was  unable to send any messages via the MiFi  through Dreamhost's SMTP (outgoing email) server.  This happens both when sending from my laptop's email client (Apple Mail) and also from my iPhone when WiFi (i.e. the Verizon MiFi connection) is enabled.  It's not a mailserver authentication issue -- incoming email works, Dreamhost webmail send and receive  works, and I can send from the (AT&T) iPhone with WiFi turned off (i.e. through AT&T's cellular network).  I contacted Dreamhost support, who said:
    - - - - - (begin Dreamhost response) - - - - -
DreamHost now performs spamhaus RBL look ups when using an smtp client such as Apple mail. This is to prevent spam from leaving our network. The issues you are describing is what happens when you attempt to send email from an internet service provider (ISP) that is on the spamhaus blocking list. Switching from wifi to 3g will change that IP address that we look up prior to sending the email. For the device that is blocked we can only recommend that you contact the ISP and ask them to either give you a different IP address or work to get their IP's delisted.
    - - - - - (end Dreamhost response) - - - - -
I take this to mean that Verizon 4G LTE IP addresses have somehow been added to Spamhaus's database.  Has anyone experienced this issue with sending email through a Verizon  device using Dreamhost SMTP?  What are my options?
Message was edited by: John Ciccarelli  (New information: Dreamhost suggested using WhatIsMyIP.com to determine my IP address.  It returned 166.250.33.162 and sure enough Spamhaus has that in its PBL and XBL lists.  However, I'm using Authenticated SMTP (port 587), not the unauthenticated port 25.  Are Verizon servers somehow listed on Spamhaus?)

More research: I repeatedly shut down and powered up the MiFi.  Each time up, WhatIsMyIP.com returns a slightly different IP: 166.250.33.162, 166.250.32.186, 166.250.34.151, etc.  Lookup shows these IPs are associated with vzwdomain.com or myvzw.com, not surprisingly.  So presumably the MiFi gets mapped to a different actual IP each time it connects.  The first of these 3 IPs showed up in Spamhaus's PBL and XBL lists; the other two just in the PBL list.  Perhaps if I keep powering off/on it'll eventually connect via an IP that isn't on Spamhaus's list.

Are you using Mail app? You need to make sure the Outgoing Mail Server settings are exactly how your ISP recommends. So give them a call.

  • How do I change the photo of myself that is being placed on my outgoing emails?

I just realized that Safari is attaching a test photo of me to each of my outgoing email, mostly job applications. I'm sitting there with morning hair, a t-shirt and 5 oclock shadow. I searched everywhere looking for a way to either change or remove the image but to no avail. Can someone help me with this problem... Budman65

dominic is correct in saying, "The photo image in the mail composing window will not be sent along with the message." The only way anyone recieving your mail would have that picture is if they had that picture of you in their Contacts, which is highly unlikely.
But if you send a test to yourself, you will see it. The test must be sent to someone else.

  • How can I NOT have my outgoing emails accumulate on gmail?

I'm using Thunderbird with gmail via POP3, not IMAP. I want to just grab the emails, download them to my PC, and delete them from gmail. That part works great. But with both TB and my previous Outlook 2000, my outgoing emails end up staying on the gmail server. I see no control in TB nor on the gmail site to say "delete outgoing emails after sending" like is done when receiving.
Is this just the nature of email systems?
So every couple months I log onto gmail manually, and delete all of them. I just don't like my emails being available to a hacker.
Are there any settings to accomplish this?
    Thanks.

You're right, for a POP account, the option "Place a Copy in:" in TB, under Account Settings/Copies and Folders would only enable/disable local copies to the Sent folder. If you want local copies, leave it checked.
To control the setting for copies to the Sent folder on the server, login to your Gmail account via browser, and look for an option to disable it there.
The 'Other' option in TB can be used to chose another account's Sent folder, e.g. underneath 'Local Folders'.

  • Mac mail keeps sending emails from different accounts even though it says correct email in "sent" folder. Recipients reply and it goes to different email address. So confusing.

mac mail keeps sending emails from my different accounts even though it says correct email in "sent" folder and correct email account was highlighted. Recipients reply and it goes to different email address. So confusing and annoying.

    Hi Mike,
I had the same issue and managed to solve it.
    Go into Mail>Preferences>Accounts
Then in the account information tab, at the bottom should be outgoing mail server (SMTP) and click the drop down box
Mine had a few different servers in it so i went into edit SMPT server list. Click advanced and it will tell you which ones are going from which email address.
Delete the ones you dont want, and it should work or instead of deleting click use only this server, i imagine that will work to
    Hope This Helps

  • Default outgoing email address for multiple emails

How do I set up one of my many email addresses on my I-phone to be the default outgoing email for all of them?

If you have set up one of your email accounts to be the default, all emails sent from outside of the email app will be sent from that email address.  The default email account will be used if a new email is created in the All Inbox.  If you reply to an email or initiate an email from within a given email account, I guess it assumed that you want it to go out as that email address.

  • Wrong outgoing email address

    Hi,
I have several email accounts set on my Mail. Recently outgoing email messages that I had sent from my A address, where arriving to the recipients as if they where sent from my B address. If I temporarely disable my B address from the advanced tab, and I relaunch Mail, things work properly again. But as soon as I enable address B, it starts doing it again.
    Any clues?
    Thanks,

    Hi brunus.
I’ve never seen this particular problem reported before and don’t really know what’s going on here, but I just came across this thread again while searching for something else, and thought that if you still have the problem and are reading this, I’d try re-creating the preferences file — I have no idea whether it’ll make a difference, though:
    1. Write down your Mail > Preferences > Accounts settings or take screen shots of them.
    2. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    3. Quit Mail.
    4. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the Mail folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    5. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this solves the problem).
    6. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    7. You’ll have to re-configure some of your Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • Default outgoing email address

I have several email addresses and would like to link a specific address for individual contacts. Is there a way to set a default outgoing email address for specific contacts?

Thank you SO MUCH for this information. I've read so many other places that the default email address is the address listed at the top of the Preferences>Accounts list, and yet, whenever I send an email, it gets sent from whichever account is highlighted. I've never been able to figure out the discrepancy. I'm so glad I looked deeper and found this post. Thank you!
